BIG announcement from the AWL Commissioner

OK people, yesterday I promised you big news and I shall not disappoint. This message just came from the AWL Commissioners office:

Due to the importance of the AWL 120 main event, it is my decision that special precautions must be taken to ensure a fair and just outcome. Therefore, for the first time in the HISTORY of the Animated Wrestling League, the match between HAKAIASHA! vs. A.J. Styles will have . . . a Special Guest Referee!

It should be noted that I mean no disrespect to AWL Senior Official Joey Babaganoush. He is one of my longest tenured and most trusted employees and I want it publically know that he has my complete faith. However, in this instance I want someone of greater martial skill to be in charge of the action.

The identity of the Special Guest Referee shall be revealed at AWL 117. THIS! I Have COMMISSIONED!!!!!!!

There you have it folks, right from the boss's mouth. Tomorrow, I'll be back here with all the news from the AWL Tag Team Division.

That's the top of the card, now let's take a look at the bottom. Here are the updated Danger Zone Rankings:

Two of the four slots in Batsumania are now locked. I have it on good authority that Luke James, American Beetle, and Tiger Mask II will ALL be in action next weekend for AWL 117 so this chart may look very different come this time next week.

Speaking of AWL 117, the main event of that show has just been announced!

AWL World Light Heavyweight Championship Match
DOOMBUNNY (C) vs. El Santo Azul

I personally expected this match to take place at AWL 120, but the Commissioner has decided to give it to us early. This match follows El Santo Azul pinning The DOOMBUNNY in a non-title match yesterday. And remember, El Santo Azul is currently one half of the AWL World Tag Team Champions so he has a chance to become a double champion! We hope to bring you comments from both wrestlers before the end of the week.

Lastly, I've been told to expect a major announcement to be posted on this very blog tomorrow. I have no idea what it is, but I have been told that it relates to AWL 120. So please make sure to check back here tomorrow for the big news.

New Match signed for AWL 120!

This just in!  We already know that all three AWL Championships will be decided at AWL 120, including the finals of the AWL Championship Tournament.  But this just announced:  There will be a "Bronze Medal Match" between the losers of the two semi final matches.  The results of this match will be taken into account when determining the first #1 Contender for the AWL World Heavyweight Championship in Season 7.

Thar means the current line up for the Season 6 Finale is:

Main Event:
AWL World Heavyweight Championship
Tournament FINAL!
HAKAISHA! vs. A.J. Styles

AWL World Tag Team Championship
Masters of the Mask (C) vs. ????

AWL World Light Heavyweight Championship
DOOMBUNNY (C) vs. ????

Bronze Medal Match
Kid Canada vs. "Big" Ben Nelson

BATSUMANIA!
El Rudo Rojo vs. ???? vs. ???? vs. ????

Obviously there are still quite a few gaps to fill in and this card is subject to change.  So stay tuned to the AWL for all the developments as we rush headlong toward the Season Finale!

PROMOS!! (Seriously, we need to do more of this.)

This weekend the semi final round of the AWL Championship Tournament will begin. We're down to the final four. Either HAKAISHA!, Kid Canada, "Big" Ben Nelson, or A.J. Styles will be the new champion. This weekend, The Japanese Destroyer will face The Last Master of the Dungeon. Here now, comments from both of our semi finalists:

I have been to the top of the mountain once before. I have held the AWL World Heavyweight Championship Belt. But I can't call myself a champion. The only reason I had that opportunity was because of Yarina. Even then, it was all part of a plan to get the belt back on Wonder Kid.

But thanks to this tournament, I have a chance to do it all over again. I have a chance to do it the RIGHT WAY! This time I will become champion by MY own hand! Kid, I respect you and your skills, but nobody is going to stand in the way of my redemption. At AWL 115, you will know why I am called The Japanese Destroyer!

As always, many thanks to the AWL Translation Team for giving us an English version of that. Now, we turn the floor over to Kid Canada:

No body expected to see me here eh? Not the goofy mid-card Bret Hart wannabe. Surely the guy in the silly flag mask could never be in the main event, right? Wrong! Nearly 3 months ago I proved EVERYONE wrong when I beat Wonder Kid in the round of 16. That's right, the 14th seed beat the 3rd seed. People have been calling it The Canadian Miracle. I'm not sure I like that name personally, but that's not important right now. What's important was what happened AFTER the match. I suffered a 3 on 1 beating from Yarina Talent Management Inc. A group YOU used to be a part of HAKAISHA! I know everyone thinks you've turned over a new leaf, that you're "on the side of the angels" now. Well, we'll see about that. I get how bad you want to be champion, but there's something you don't understand big man, the glass ceiling. For decades there's been a glass celing in professional wrestling for anyone who isn't 2 meters tall with arms the size of Prince Edward Island. This is my chance, after 6 seasons, to make it to the top of this business that I love!

You may be The Japanese Destroyer, but on Sunday, you'll feel The Canadian Destroyer and I'm going to slay another giant. Then the AWL Arena and the rest of the wrestling world will be proclaiming:

OH! CANADA!!

It all takes place this weekend. Be there!!

AWL 113 Preview

We already know about one match this weekend and the rest of the card has just been announced:

AWL Championship Tournament Quarter Final Match 3
Wolf vs. "Big" Ben Nelson
The tournament to find the next AWL World's Heavyweight Champion continues this weekend as two of the best brawlers in the AWL today go at it with a birth in the semi finals on the line!

Luke James vs. Darkness Ryu
This match was already announced, but it's worth repeating.  Last week, Luke James became the first man to find a chink in the armor of Darkness Ryu.  The AWL Commissioner was all to happy to make this match happen.  As always, the wicked Dr. Jigoku was a little too eager to go along with this.  I'm not sure if this is confidence in his Augment's abilities or good old fashioned ego.  We'll all find out together this weekend.

Wonder Kid vs. Tiny
Last week, there was a personal confrontation between Tiny and Wonder Kid during the latter's match with Curry Man.  Finally, Wonder Kid fight's someone his own size/  This week we shall see who is the better man inside the AWL Ring!

Danger Riders (0) vs. Bullet Club (0)
The Danger Riders are DEEP in the Danger Zone and their only hope of salvation is to win their way into either the AWL World Tag Team Title Match at AWL 120, or the titles themselves.  Can they do it?  I doubt it, but it will be fun watching them try.

Tiger Mask II vs. Ma-Ji-Ku
After the events of AWL Mid-Week Wrestling 112.5, these two veterans of the Light Heavyweight Division will face off and the winner gets at future shot at the DOOMBUNNY for the gold!

All this and more at AWL 113, in just a few short days!!

AWL 112: Kid Canada vs. THUGLIFE田中健一

AWL 112: Kid Canada vs. THUGLIFE 田中健一 by AWLBoss

Preview?  You don't want no stinking preview!!  Let's get to the wrestling!!  The AWL Championship Tournament continues!  The NEW AWL World Light Heavyweight Champion The DOOMBUNNY issues a non-title Open Challenge!  And we finally hear from the mysterious and clearly evil Dr. Jigoku!!  All that and more RIGHT NOW!!!

And I've run out of exclamation marks so just watch the show.

AWL 111 fallout.

Many things of great significance have happened in the last 24 hours.  First and foremost, we have an injury update on Dragon.  According to my sources in the AWL medical staff, Dragon suffered a stinger and a possible concussion when the creature we now know to be called "Darkness Ryu" threw Dragon from the ring into and through the commentation station.  Dragon is now officially on the injured list and is expected to be out of action for several months.

Additionally, we can finally report on the condition of Ganba (who was choke slammed through the ring at AWL 110).  The Japanese Megastar suffered severe lacerations when he hit the various weapons and equipment under the ring.

Apparently, the AWL Commissioner handed down a hush order on the whole thing until Ganba could undergo a full battery of medical tests.  There was concern that some meta natural forces were at work here.  Thankfully, that appears to not be the case.

Ganba is also on the injured list and no timetable for his return has been announced.

In other news, both the teams of Dragon and James as well as The New Classics gained a point towards tag team title contention.  They now have 2 pts and 1pt respectively.

Lastly, the results of yesterday's matches have altered the make up of the Danger Zone.  Thanks to a tie for the fourth slot, there are now 5 men in the Zone:

El Rudo Rojo: -14
THUGLIFE 田中健一: -12
"Peacemaker" Luke James: -8
Tiger Mask II: -7
American Beetle: -7

Remember, if 田中健一 makes it to the final round of the tournament he will be immune from Batsumania.  His Quarterfinal match against Kid Canada will be next weekend at AWL 112.

AWL 111 Preview

The next episode of the Animated Wrestling League will be posted tomorrow morning Japan time, please adjust for your time zone.  We got a loaded card for you this week so lets break it down:

MAIN EVENT:
AWL Championship Tournament Quarter Final Match #1
El Santo Azul vs. HAKAISHA!

The next round of the tournament begins with David vs. Goliath.  El Santo Azul may have defeated Ganba to make it this far, but HAKAISHA! is a whole different animal.  In his entire AWL career, HAKAISHA! has only lost THREE matches!!  But upsets have been the name of the game in this tournament so it's really all to play for tomorrow.

TAG TEAM ACTION:
Dragon & James (1), The New Classics (0), The All Americans (0), The Real Jobbers (0)

There will be TWO tag team matches tomorrow featuring these four teams.  The exact match ups have not been announced yet, but looking at the teams involved there is certainly going to be such a thing as a "Good Draw" at AWL 111.  Of course, points will be up for grabs.

Bad Luck Fale vs. Curry Man

This is a grudge match from AWL 110.  After Tiny defeated Bad Luck Fale, The Bullet Club made the challenge and Curry Man has accepted.....A move henceforth known as Mistake #1.

Wonder Kid vs. El Rudo Rojo

Wonder Kid has been on a tear through the AWL in the past several weeks.  Next on his hit list is El Rudo Rojo and it couldn't happen to a nicer jerk.

All that and more tomorrow at AWL 111!

AWL Mid-Week Wrestling 110.5: Styles vs. Masters

AWL Mid-Week Wrestling 110.5: Styles vs. Masters by AWLBoss

Final Round of 16 Match

Still no news on the matter discussed yesterday.  Frankly, I'm getting worried.  I've been getting the impression that I shouldn't be asking questions, that I should just sell the wrestling shows.  So, for the moment, that's what I'm going to do.

THIS WEEK ON AWL MID-WEEK WRESTLING....

For the first time, an AWL Championship Tournament Match will take place on Mid-Week Wrestling!

"Phenomenal" A.J. Styles vs. "Penultimate Fighter" Lee Masters
Round of 16 Match

Since he was busy LOSING the AWL World Light Heavyweight Championship at AWL 110, A.J. Styles will have his Round of 16 Match against Less Master's this week on MWW!  The leader of the Bullet Club verses on half of the most decorated tag team in the AWL today.  A relative AWL newcomer verses a Season 0 Veteran.  A pure professional wrestler verses a unique hybrid of pro wrestling and MMA.

While Styles may be the odds on favorite, this tournament has been FULL of surprises and an upset win by Lee Masters would not be the biggest shock of the Round of 16.

Tune in tomorrow and find out who will be the last man to advance to the Quarter Finals.

AWL 109: Squire of Trios!

AWL 109: Squire of Trios! by AWLBoss

The first and probably last Squires of Trios.  Also, the tournament that matters, the AWL World Championship Tournament Round of 16 continues tonight as Hassan faces one half of the AWL World Tag Team Champions.....DRAGON!

Saturday, October 11, 2014

It's official, we're rip off artists now!

I think the AWL Commissioner is having an off week.  At least I hope that's what's going on here.  If not, we're in big trouble.  This weekend the AWL will perform it's most blatant rip off ever.  Because this weekend the Animated Wrestling League will present the first ever.....Squire of Trios Tournament!!

I can't believe I just wrote that.

Yes, a shameless rip off of the King of Trios Tournament.  Yes, we feel terrible.

But it should be an interesting evening none the less.  4 trios will compete, each will be made p of an established Tag Team plus one singles wrestler.  The teams are:

1. The Canadian Classics (Kid Canada, Sammy Nix, Lee Masters)

2. Bullet Club and 田中健一 (A.J. Styles, Bad Luck Fale, THUGLIFE 田中健一)

3. Team USA (American Beetle, Hassan, "Peacemaker" Luke James)

4. Los Voladores (Ma-Ji-Ku, El Santo Azul, DOOMBUNNY!)

Some interesting teams that are sure to provide us with some fantastic matches.  Plus, in the main event, we will have the 7th match in the Round of 16 of the AWL Championship Tournament:

MAIN EVENT
Dragon vs. Hassan

One half of the reigning AWL World Tag Team Champions vs. a man who will also compete in the Squire of Trios Tournament.  It could be a VERY long night for Hassan, but "Upset" has been the name of the game all season long in this tournament so it's all to play for at AWL 109!

2 More Matches for AWL 108

Late breaking news tonight, 2 more matches confirmed for AWL 108:

"Big" Ben Nelson vs. Wrestler X

In the main event, the AWL Championship Tournament will continue as the Battling British Bar Brawler "Big" Ben Nelson will face the King of Copyright Infringement Wrestler X in the 6th match in the Round of 16 as we make our way to AWL 120 and the crowning of a NEW AWL World Heavyweight Champion.

The Masters of the Mask (2) vs. The All Americans (0)

In tag team action, two of the best luchadores in the world today will go for their 3rd point toward title contention.  But standing in the way are two of the most American Americans in the history of professional wrestling, American Beetle and Hassan!  The All Americans have been floundering in the tag team division as of late so this is a huge chance to not only net themselves a point, but to deny Ma-Ji-Ku & El Santo Azul a title shot.

It all goes down in less that 12 hours at AWL 108!

AWL 107: Kuroyama vs. Wolf

AWL 107: Kuroyama vs Wolf by AWLBoss

I didn't think it would happen, but things are mostly back up and running in the AWL, at least for the moment.  I don't have time to explain now, but until I can.  Enjoy the show!
