Words from the main event
In this
final post before National Pro Wrestling Day, we take a look at the main event which
has the potential to be the best scientific wrestling match we’ve seen in the
Animated Wrestling League for quite some time.
Here now the challenger and champion.
Matt Classic Sr.
(Transcribed from a hand written letter delivered to AWL HQ):
Kid,
you’re good. One of the best I’ve ever
seen. If the AWL had had a 6-man tag
division back in the day, I’d have recruited you for The Technicos in a heartbeat. If either Sammy or Lee had been injured, you’d
be the first I’d call to fill in. You’re
a great wrestler and a worthy champion. But
now, you’re in my way.
This match
isn’t about you, or me, or even the AWL Grand Championship. It’s all about who’s behind me. Ganba Hisshi Dark has the next title
shot. I intend to make sure that if he
wants the AWL Grand Championship, he’s going to have to go through ME to get
it! He ended my boy’s AWL Career and I intend
to make sure I end his. But that coward is
too scared to fight me again. He thinks
that just because he got lucky last time, things are settled between us. No SIR!
Kid,
the only way I can do what I need to do is take that title from you this
weekend at National Pro Wrestling Day.
Nothing personal, just business.
Kid Canada:
I’m
sorry, nothing personal? Nothing
personal! Matt, it’s never anything BUT
personal with you. Ganba hurt your
son. You want to hurt him back. I get it.
If it were my kid, I’d do the same, eh?
OK, but you’re going to have to find another way to get your hands on
Ganba because you’re not taking my title to get it, eh?
Sorry, but I’ve worked too long
and too hard to become a minor character in someone else’s story. So, let’s have a great match. A match worthy of National Pro Wrestling
Day. But in the end, I write my own
story and it doesn’t end here, eh?

Joshi Promos
3
titles will be defended at National Pro Wrestling Day from the Wrestle
Factory. Among them, the AWL Joshi
Championship will be defended for the first time this season. We got some words from the champion and
challenger for the big red belt.
Joya (Translated
from the original Spanish by the AWL Translation Team):
Mistress
of 1000 holds. Undefeated. Double Champion. These names and titles each tell me something
about you Akira Merune. Mistress of 1000
holds? You focus too much on grappling
and submission wrestling.
Undefeated? You don’t know how to
handle defeat, it scares you. Double
Champion? Your attention is divided.
National
Pro Wrestling Day is about celebrating our sport. What makes wrestling great to me is the fact
that it has never been about one thing.
It’s not just technical skill, strength and power, high flying, or
hardcore garbage. Any wrestler who only
focuses on one of these areas is doomed to lose eventually.
That’s
where I come in. So many people around the
world think that Lucha Libre is just high flying acrobatics. That couldn’t be further from the truth. This weekend at the Wrestle Factory, I will
show you MY lucha and I will walk out as the NEW AWL Joshi Champion!
Akira Merune
(Translated from the original Japanese by the AWL Translation Team):
I’ve
beaten he best this division has to offer.
You think I’m a one trick pony? Seriously?
Yes, I prefer to tap my opponents out, but if you think all I have are
submissions, you are sorely mistaken. At
National Pro Wrestling Day, you’re going back to wrestling school and class
will be in session.
National
Pro Wrestling Day will be a home coming for me.
I started my wrestling training at the Wrestle Factory before transferring
to the AWL Dojo to be closer to my family.
There is no WAY I’m losing either of my titles in the Wrestle
Factory. Joya, your time is up! Just give up!!

New match added to NPWD and words from Champions and Challengers.
The AWL
Commissioner has announced a non-title match to be added to the AWL’s
contribution to National Pro Wrestling Day:
Resu Black vs. Project Tetsu
These
two titans clashed at the Contractual Obligation Rumble. The Commissioner wants to see if the newest
member of the Puro Sentai Resurangers can stand up to the biggest monster in
Dr. Jigoku’s arsenal. Last weekend, Resu
Red knocked the Iron Project out cold in the middle of the ring. At the Wrestle Factory, can Resu Black follow
in his leader’s footsteps?
We’ll
find out this weekend. But first I met
up with the champions and challengers in NPWD’s world’s tag team title match to
get their thoughts on what’s going to go down in the USA:
The New Classics:
Sammy Nix: OK, I’m man enuff to know when I’m beat. Solar, you took everythin’ I had and you kept
gettin’ up. Then ya hit me wit dat damn
Supernova out of thin fricken air and I was down for the count. You impressed me kid. If ya eva need a couple a guys to team with
in one of those trios matches they love over in Mexico, Lee Masters an’ I are
just a text away.
Lee Masters: That’s right, but now we need to get down to
business and that means defending OUR World Tag Team Titles. Tigers, you got spunk. We like spunk. Beating your trainers in a fair fight was
impressive. I don’t think either of us
have ever beaten Matt in a one on one match and I’m not sure we could. So good for you…but the fun stops here. It doesn’t matter how much you want to earn
your stripes (whatever that means), but you aren’t doing it over us. If you need these belts to graduate, you’re
going to have to wait a LONG time.
Tiger Brothers
(Translated from the original Japanese by the AWL Translation Team):
Shin Tiger Jr.: This is going to be a big challenge. The biggest of our careers. Yeah, I know we said that last week…and it
was true. This week, in America, it’s
going to be true again. We know what
we’re up against. The most decorated tag
team in AWL history…
Black Tiger
JUSTICE: …Hang on a second
brother. Yeah, they’re good and they’ve
won the titles 6 times. But that means
they’ve LOST the titles 5 times. Someone
is going to make it 6. Why not us? Seriously, why not us? We’re younger, faster, more agile, and we’re
no slouch in the strength department.
But most importantly, we’ve had the best training anywhere in the
wrestling world. And we’ve got three
points and we’ve earned each and every one of them! We have all the tools we need to become the
next AWL World Tag Team Champions!
With
all that said, it’s all to play for at AWL Supercard: National Pro Wrestling
Day 2019!

3 Title Matches for the AWL's National Pro Wrestling Day contribution.
As the
AWL Roster prepare to make their way to the United States and the Wrestle
Factory to do our bit for National Pro Wrestling Day, let’s take a look at the
three championship matches that will take place in Pennsylvania:
MAIN EVENT:
Kid Canada (C) vs. Matt Classic Sr. (#1)
AWL Grand Championship Match
1st Title Defense
Akira Merune (C) vs. Joya (#1)
AWL Joshi Championship Match
6th Title Defense
The New Classics (C) vs. The Tiger Brothers (3)
AWL World Tag Team Title Match
4th Title Defense
What is National Pro Wrestling Day?
I’m
glad you asked! National Pro Wrestling Day
is the day we celebrate the positive power of professional wrestling. Founded by Chikara several years ago, each
year the wrestling world selects a charity and holds a very special show where
all proceeds go to that year’s charity.
This
year’s charity is the Arch Street Center in Lancaster PA, USA. A year round facility dedicated to treating
and assisting adults with serious mental illnesses by providing social, moral,
and material support including recreational and hygiene facilities and
nutritious meals. They currently serve
over 16,500 meals annually and they need your help to maintain and expand their
reach.
Their
donation page is currently off line, hopefully in preparation for a massive
increase of donations thanks to National Pro Wrestling Day. We will update both this blog and the YouTube
channel with donation links as soon as that information becomes available.

Comments from Champion and Challenger
(The
following statements have been translated from the original Japanese)
2018
is going to be the year for Shin Jidai.
I promise you right here and now, by the end of this year, we will
control the AWL Grand Championship AND World Tag Team Championships. Beyond that, Dragoness will be your AWL Joshi
Champion.
Speaking
of Dragoness, a lot of people have been asking me if I’m annoyed that she took
my entrance and wrestles in a very similar style to mine. Those people are idiots. She and I had the same trainer, Dragon. He was my mentor, but her father. She has as much right to the Dragon Sigil as
I do and probably more. We trained together,
and I consider her something of a little sister. In fact, I’m going to be at ringside for her
match at National Pro Wrestling Day and watch her qualify for her championship.
But
that’s not why you’re giving me the blog space, is it? Two years ago, I made my debut in the New
Year’s Tournament and won the AWL Grand Championship a month later at National
Pro Wrestling Day. I should probably say
that this year will be more of the same…but that would be a lie, wouldn’t it?
In
2016, I only had to beat Tanaka Kenichi.
This year, Hakaisha. They call
him the Japanese Destroyer for a reason.
Can I out power him? Not a
chance! But can I out wrestle him? We’re going to find out! I can out run him. I can out fly him. I CAN beat him!!
And
Tanaka, if you can read this once they put it in English, just try cashing in
that Golden Opportunity of yours and watch history repeat itself. I dare you!
Each
challenger presents a different challenge.
Chiba Akagi lives up to his reputation as a master of submissions. More than once, I thought he had me last week. Wyvern is an entirely different
wrestler. He’s a showman, all of Shin
Jidai are, and he focuses his attacks on setting up his finishing move. The Shin Jidai Sunrise is a great attack
because it disorientates you. You don’t
realize you’re on your back until you hear the referee count.
But
I’m on a mission. A mission I call
“Operation V6.” Right now, Dr. Jigoku’s
puppet Project Tetsu holds the record for most title defenses of any grand
championship reign with 5. I refuse to
allow that disrespectful cheater to have any reason to brag. I will break that record and I don’t care who
I must go through to do it. The AWL
Grand Championship must be something we wrestlers can be proud of. That means that it must be defended…the right
way.

Why we're doing this.
As
4 matches worth of the AWL Roster prepare to board a plane for the United
States of America, I want to talk to you about why we’re all doing this.
Several
years ago, Chikara started National Pro Wrestling Day as a special event where
representatives of many independent professional wrestling organizations could
come together and do some good for the world.
The AWL, sharing this spirit of generosity, joined in and we’ve
contributed our own “satellite show” ever since.
Over
the years, National Pro Wrestling Day has shown the Positive Power of
Professional Wrestling by raising money for some fantastic charities. We’ve helped others in the wrestling
community via the Superkick Foundation.
We’ve helped the blind see via the SEVA Foundation. And this year we’re helping do what the
American government (this American
government at least) can’t. NPWD is
teaming with Unitas to raise money for Hurricane relief in Puerto Rico.
It’s
been more than 5 months since Puerto Rico was devastated and thousands of
people are STILL without power, water, food, and the basic necessities of
modern life. The government’s reaction
has been FUBAR from the word go. So, it
falls to us to do what they can’t.
We’ll
provide the links to the same donation site Chikara is using so please give
whatever you can. Thank you.

Commissioner's Address on NPWD
Good
evening ladies and gentlemen, I am the AWL Commissioner. This weekend, we of the Animated Wrestling
League shall once again make our way to the United States of America to
participate in National Pro Wrestling Day.
The
card for the Animated Wrestling League’s satellite show to Chikara’s main
program shall consist of 4 matches.
After the events of last weekend’s AWL 224, we now know the main event:
HAKAISHA! (C) vs. Wyvern (#1)
AWL Grand Championship Match
2nd Title Defense
Furthermore,
we shall demonstrate for the world the quality of the Animated Wrestling
League’s Tag Team and Joshi Divisions.
Dragoness vs. KoroshiMACHINE
If
Dragoness is victorious, she shall qualify for the Joshi Championship Ladder
Match and join Athena Jane with the opportunity to become our first ever Joshi
Champion.
Tiger Mask II & Okada Kazuchika (1) vs Yamada Jiro
& X-drone (1)
Points in Play
Ever
since last season, these two teams have had, shall we say, extraneous points on
the board. Placed together in improvised
and unregistered tag teams during the fight against Global Wrestling Monopoly,
they have simply sat around doing nothing.
This shall no longer stand! One of
these teams will be cleared from the board while the other shall take a further
step towards the Animated Wrestling League’s World Tag Team Championship.
Lastly,
the man who will be the #1 contender for the Animated Wrestling League Grand
Championship at the conclusion of National Pro Wrestling Day, Azteckaizer NEO,
shall be in action against another man with an immediate claim upon a
championship match:
Azteckaizer NEO (#2) vs. THUGLIFE Tanaka Kenichi

State of the AWL Address.
Good evening ladies and gentlemen,
I am the AWL Commissioner.
And it is time once again for a state of the AWL address.
Preparations continue for the 2017 New Year’s Tournament. All 16 wrestlers have signed new contracts
for this year and the various technical logistics issues that always seem to
pop up are nearing completion.
We are once again remodeling and upgrading the AWL Arena and,
while all our changes might not be finished in time for the tournament, we
think you will be pleased with the results.
Additionally, we are in the process of reaching out to other
wrestling organizations both here in Japan and abroad in the hope of setting up
some talent exchanges and inter-promotional matches. With luck, that will come together within the
next few days.
As such. I have decided that, in order to bring the Animated Wrestling League into line with most major professional wrestling organizations around the world, I am making the following change to the AWL Rule Book:
Until further notice, all AWL officials shall declare a Ring Out and time a wrestler leaves the ring for more than a COUNT OF TEN. This rule change is on a trial basis and may be reevaluated in the future.
Finally for today, I wish to confirm that the Animated Wrestling
League will once again be participating in the National Pro Wrestling Day
charity show in the United States. As
previously announced, AWL Grand Champion Chiba Akagi will defend his
championship against the winner of the New Year’s Tournament (or an opponent of
his choosing should he win the tournament himself) in the AWL Main Event. However, that will not be the only
championship to be determined.
I have COMMISSIONED a 6-man Video Cybernetico Match for the vacant
AWL Intercontinental Championship.
While, yes, this does represent a change in the AWL Rule Book, I have
found the previous system of a 6-way free for all an insufficient test for
something as prestigious as the Intercontinental Championship. This rule change has gone through all the
proper channels and documentation is available upon request.
The participants shall be determined following the 2017 New Year’s
Tournament.
THIS! I have
COMMISSIONED!!!!!!!!!!
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AWL's full contribution to National Pro Wrestling Day
The rest of the card for National
Pro Wrestling Day has been announced!
What we already know:
Main Event:
THUGLIFE 田中健一
(C) vs. Wyvern
AWL Grand Championship Match
1st Title Defense
The All Americans (2) vs. Los
Neko Grande (2)
Points in Play
The wrestlers who came in second,
third, and fourth in the New Year's Tournament became #2, #3, &
#4 in the AWL Best 4. But in the AWL, you have to not only earn your
title shots, you have to fight for them. So we're going to have a
reshuffle match:
Wolf (#2) vs. Bad Luck Fale
(#3) vs. Wonder Kid (#4)
Reshuffle Match
Winner becomes #2 Contender,
loser becomes #4 Contender
Lastly, the recently independent
Strike Taka has requested a match with the monster who not only threw
him out of The Augments, but who tried to end his career. And you
can be sure Dr. Jigoku will be there to see to it that his favorite
creation erases one of his biggest failures.
Strike 鷹 vs.
Project 鉄
It all takes place at National
Pro Wrestling Day on Feb. 7th Japan time, Feb. 6th US time, in
Reading, PA and right here at AWLWrestling.blogspot.com.
Thursday, January 28, 2016
It's the most wonderful time of the wrestling year!
With
the New Year's Tournament firmly in the history books, it's time to
look forward toward every wrestling fan's favorite holiday, National
Pro Wrestling Day! As we have done the last 3 years, the AWL is
packing up and heading overseas to the good old US of A for a
complimentary show to air alongside Chikara's NPWD program and
hopefully to aid in showing the world the positive power of
professional wrestling.
Already
the first match has been made. With his victory at the New Year's
Tournament, Wyvern has earned the right to challenge for the AWL
Grand Championship:
Main Event:
THUGLIFE 田中健一
(C) vs. Wyvern
AWL Grand Championship Match
1st Title Defense
Also, with Karl Anderson slated
to make the move to WWE some time in the possibly very near future,
we need to get those tag team titles off of Bullet Club or the AWL
Commissioner will have no choice but to strip them of the titles. No
promoter wants to break the lineage of a championship unless there is
no other choice. So, at National Pro Wrestling Day, two teams with
two points will face each other for the chance to challenge Bullet
Club at AWL 161.
The All Americans (2) vs. Los
Neko Grande (2)
Points in Play
Expect more regular updates right
here as National Pro Wrestling Day approaches.
Sunday, February 8, 2015
Wednesday, February 4, 2015
I might be out of my mind, but it's for a good cause.
Good news wrestling fans! The
most high holiday on the pro wrestling calendar is nearly upon us.
That's right, National Pro Wrestling Day 2015 is only a week away.
And once again, a contingent of AWL Wrestlers will travel to Easton
PA, USA to partake in the festivities. That means that there will
be TWO AWL shows posted this coming weekend. AWL 124 will be
posted 24 hours ahead of schedule and our contribution to National
Pro Wrestling Day will be posted in our normal time slot.
This year, the AWL will be
offering a 3 match card for NPWD. After AWL 123, the first match and
main event has already been decided:
Ganba (C) vs. HAKAISHA!(#1)
AWL World Heavyweight
Championship Match
First Title Defense
We fully expect the other two
matches to be announced either this week on the blog or at AWL 124
itself.
