Commissioner's Weekly Address

Good evening ladies and gentlemen, I am the AWL Commissioner.

I have been promoting professional wrestling for 15 years and sometimes I feel like I have seen everything there is to see. It is not often in this business that I find myself truly surprised. Such an emotion has truly been my experience in the last few weeks as Captain AWL has risen to the exalted status of Champion of the Light Heavyweight Division. While I still do not understand his hatred of El Rudo Rojo, he has exceeded my expectations of him. I am impressed.

HOWEVER! AWL 160 is just around the courner and I can not allow an untested and unproven rookie to represent the Animated Wrestling League in the Title Unification Match. Therefore I have COMMISSIONED the final two challengers for the title to be of the highest quality. First, this weekend, Captain AWL shall face the best of the Light Heavyweight Division:
For AWL 156
Captain AWL (C) vs. Ma-Ji-Ku
AWL World Light Heavyweight Championship Match
1st Title Defense.

Furthermore, eight of the AWL's best light heavyweight wrestlers will compete in singles matches this week and next week the winners of those bouts will meet in a 4-way match to determine the final challenger before the season finale.

THIS! I have COMMISSIONED!!!!!! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!

--XOXO AWL Commissioner

2.5 Matches Announced

The AWL Commissioner will make his weekly address tomorrow, but I can announce/confirm that two and a half matches have already been signed for AWL 152:
El Rudo Rojo (C) vs. ????
AWL World Light Heavyweight Championship Match
2nd Title Defense

That's literally half a title match. Now, to figure out who will go in place of those question marks:
6-Man Light Heavyweight #1 Contender's Battle Royal

Los Neko Grande (1) vs. Bullet Club (Hall/Omega) (0)
2 Point/15 Minute Match

So far, so obvious. However, stay tuned tomorrow for the Commissioner's Weekly Address, I have it on good authority that he has booked a proverbial barn burner of a match for this weekend.

AWL 150!!!!

A week late, but still a great hour and ten minutes of professional wrestling brought to you by the Animated Wrestling League.

Beginning this week we're also experimenting with trying to upgrade to HD, but I don't think the screen capture software I use is capable of that.  If anyone has any recommendations, let me know in the comments.

3 Matches, 4 Champions

And I was right. The AWL Commissioner has announced the top matches for AWL 150. Two titles will be defended and there will be a clash...of champions!
AWL 150:
HAKAISHA! (AWL) vs. RAINMAKER Okada Kazuchika (NJPW)
Champion vs. Champion
Non-Title Match

Bullet Club (C) vs. Matt Classic Jr. & DOOMBUNNY (3)
AWL World Tag Team Title Match
1st Title Defense

El Rudo Rojo (C) vs. Captain AWL
AWL World Light Heavyweight Title Match

A loaded card and that's only the top half.

By the way, I have it on good authority that BOTH El Rudo Rojo and Captain AWL requested a match against each other and the AWL Commissioner agreed on the condition that the World's Light Heavyweight Championship be at stake.

Lastly, in other news, the AWL Commissioner has summoned American Beetle, Hassan, and Yamada Jiro (Not to mention Chronos Security) to his office for a conference first thing tomorrow morning. I'd love to be a fly on the wall for THAT conversation.

Full card for AWL 146:

With all the chaos regarding the Mil Muertes affair, it falls to me, your not so humble lead announcer/blogger to tell you the vast majority of what's going to happen at AWL 146:

Main Event:
Tiger Mask II (C) vs. ????
AWL World Light Heavyweight Title Match
2nd Title Defense
Even in the face of extortion, the journey toward the Grand Championship continues.  But who will be the next challenger to Tiger Mask's title?  More on that further down.  But the bigger question is the same as it was two weeks ago, is Tiger Mask healthy enough to fight an opponent he can't prepare for?

HAKAISHA! vs. Mil Muertes
Non-Title Match
Grudge Match
You all know the story here.  I'd rather not discuss it further.

Masters of the Mask (0) vs. DoD (0)
Points in Play
I know I'm burying the lead a bit here, but I've gotten word that Bullet Club has decided NOT to cash in their 3 points this week.  Not sure why, but my guess is that it has something to do with the G1 Climax Tournament currently going on.  Any way, the AWL Tag Team Division continues (and I suspect the Commissioner made this match to keep the D.o.D. busy before the Grudge Match).

Matt Classic Jr. vs. Wrestler X
I admit, this match surprised me.  Wrestler X hasn't competed in the AWL in months.  He's not been injured, just gone.  No clue where.  But all of a sudden he's back and fighting the young genius athlete of the 2015 rookie class.  Knowing Wrestler X and his...interesting abilities, this should be an interesting match.

Pimpinela Escarlata vs. El Rudo Rojo
Not all things that come from The Temple are death and destruction.  The queen of the exoticos, who has been acting as manager for Big & Spicy will step into the AWL ring for the first time against someone who REALLY needs the win.

Light Heavyweight Battle Royal!
Remember those question marks?  Yep, once again we're going to determine the #1 contender to the AWL World's Light Heavyweight Championship on the very show it will be defended on.  Last week was a one fall 4 corner match, this time it's an over the top rope battle royal.  Should be fun.

Puma's out.

Wrestling fans, I have some bad news to report. Prince Puma was found injured in the backstage area of the AWL Arena as he was packing to leave for LA to compete at the Lucha Underground Season Finale: Ultima Lucha. The Lucha Underground Champion has been rushed via Dario Cueto's private jet back to the United States for both medical treatment and to prepare for Ultima Lucha. We have the security camera footage and hope to bring that to you this weekend at AWL 144.

Unfortunately, that means that he will not be available to compete for the AWL World Light Heavyweight Championship this weekend. The AWL Commissioner is NOT happy about this and has had several telephone conversations with Mr. Cueto about this. But El Jefe is not budging. He want's to protect, not his wrestler, but his main event.

The AWL World Light Heavyweight Championship WILL be defended this weekend. The AWL Commissioner has called in some favors to toss together this #1 Contender's Match:
AWL 144:
El Santo Azul vs. El Rudo Rojo vs. A.J. Styles vs. The DOOMBUNNY
4-Way Light Heavyweight #1 Contender's Match
All 4 participants are former Light Heavyweight Champions and this match will be one fall to a finish.

This, wrestling fans, is why humans invented the phrase "Card Subject to Change."

AWL 142: El Santo Azul vs. Tiger Mask II

AWL 142: El Santo Azul vs. Tiger Mask II 投稿者 AWLBoss

I had some audio issues this week so I hope everything comes through clearly.  TONIGHT!: The Disciples of Death make their debut and the AWL World Light Heavyweight Championship will be defended for the first time this season.

Preview of Golden War 2015!

Sorry for the delay in this week's blog posts ladies and gents. But we wanted to make sure everything was on the up and up before we made any announcements. This Sunday is the next AWL Super Card: Golden War 2015! All the titles are up for grabs including, for the first time ever, outside championships! Both the IWGP Heavyweight Championship and the Lucha Underground Championship will be defended in an AWL ring. The only non-title match will be the Light Heavyweight Battle Royal to determine who challenges (ugh!) Super Giant later that very night. Without further ado, here is the card with a few new vital details:

AWL Super Card:
Golden War 2015!

Main Event:
HAKAISHA! (C) vs. Tiger Mask II (#1)
AWL World Heavyweight Championship Match
3rd Title Defense

AWL All Stars (C) vs. Crisis Gundan (3)
AWL World Tag Team Championship Match
3rd Title Defense
After successfully retaining their titles last week, we now know that Dragon & Luke James will have to make AWL history and defend their championships twice in as many weeks. They face former champions and cheating bas***ds Crisis Gundan. Speaking of whom...
Super Giant (C) vs. TBD
AWL World Light Heavyweight Championship Match
1st Title Defense
Super Giant will have to wrestle twice in one evening. We here at the AWL try to avoid this, but that's what you get when you want to fight for more than one title at a time. We will likely place both the Tag Title Match and the Battle Royal early in the show to give both champion and challenger the chance to rest and recuperate before this match.

AJ Styles (C) vs. "Lightning" Mike Quackenbush
IWGP Heavyweight Championship Match
New Japan Rules
A WHOLE lot of negotiation had to happen for this match to be signed. One of the stipulations laid down by NJPW was that the match had to be contested under their rule system. That means a whopping 60 minute time limit and a 20 count on the outside of the ring. Additionally, the rest of Bullet Club is barred from the building. Lastly, the Mike Quackenbush that will compete in this match is a version of The Master of 1000 Holds that was pulled out of an earlier point in his own timeline (it's Chikara, that kind of stuff happens) before his nagging injuries forced him to retire from in-ring competition. The modern day version of the DOF will likely have no memories of this experience.

Prince Puma (C) vs. Ma-Ji-Ku
Lucha Underground Championship Match
2 out of 3 Falls
After successfully defending his Lucha Underground Title less than 24 hours ago in The Temple (By the way Drago, if you're looking for a job...), Prince Puma has to get on a plane and fly halfway around the world to defend it yet again. Such is the life of a champion. Dario Cueto agreed to this match to get more publicity for his Temple and Konnan agreed to this match because he knows that it's a good idea for a young luchador to travel the world perfecting his craft. Furthermore, out of respect for Lucha Libre tradition, Konnan has demanded that this be a 2 out of 3 falls match. The AWL Commissioner was quick to agree. Dario insisted that the AWL Commissioner find some "worthy competition for my champion." Again, the boss was all too happy to comply. Prince Puma will face the top luchador in the AWL, the man who held the Light Heavyweight Title for more than 600 days, Ma-Ji-Ku.

DOOMBUNNY vs. Strike Taka vs. El Santo Azul vs. El Rudo Rojo
Light Heavyweight #1 Contender's Battle Royal
A lot going on in this match. First of all, there are no automatic rematches in the AWL. So even though DOOMBUNNY got screwed out of the title, he still has to earn a title shot. Strike Taka has long been Dr. Jigoku's least favorite of his Augments. Golden War 2015 is a chance for the long limbed luchador to prove himself to his creator. And as for El Santo Azul and El Rudo Rojo, the brothers have recently come to blows yet again. Now they get a chance to do so again...and get paid for it this time!

All the action takes place at AWL Super Card: Golden War 2015. Be there...or have a damn good excuse why you weren't!
