State of the AWL Address.
Good evening ladies and gentlemen,
I am the AWL Commissioner.
And it is time once again for a state of the AWL address.
Preparations continue for the 2017 New Year’s Tournament. All 16 wrestlers have signed new contracts
for this year and the various technical logistics issues that always seem to
pop up are nearing completion.
We are once again remodeling and upgrading the AWL Arena and,
while all our changes might not be finished in time for the tournament, we
think you will be pleased with the results.
Additionally, we are in the process of reaching out to other
wrestling organizations both here in Japan and abroad in the hope of setting up
some talent exchanges and inter-promotional matches. With luck, that will come together within the
next few days.
As such. I have decided that, in order to bring the Animated Wrestling League into line with most major professional wrestling organizations around the world, I am making the following change to the AWL Rule Book:
Until further notice, all AWL officials shall declare a Ring Out and time a wrestler leaves the ring for more than a COUNT OF TEN. This rule change is on a trial basis and may be reevaluated in the future.
Finally for today, I wish to confirm that the Animated Wrestling
League will once again be participating in the National Pro Wrestling Day
charity show in the United States. As
previously announced, AWL Grand Champion Chiba Akagi will defend his
championship against the winner of the New Year’s Tournament (or an opponent of
his choosing should he win the tournament himself) in the AWL Main Event. However, that will not be the only
championship to be determined.
I have COMMISSIONED a 6-man Video Cybernetico Match for the vacant
AWL Intercontinental Championship.
While, yes, this does represent a change in the AWL Rule Book, I have
found the previous system of a 6-way free for all an insufficient test for
something as prestigious as the Intercontinental Championship. This rule change has gone through all the
proper channels and documentation is available upon request.
The participants shall be determined following the 2017 New Year’s
Tournament.
THIS! I have
COMMISSIONED!!!!!!!!!!
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Main Event and one night tournament for AWL Supercard--Obon-nanza 2016!
It's been a crazy and tragic week. But you know the old saying, the show must go on and this weekend is one of the biggest events in the AWL calendar, Obon-nanza. As such, the main event is obvious:
MAIN EVENT
RAINMAKER オカダカズチカ (C) vs. "Suplex Master" Sammy Nix (#1)
AWL Grand Championship Match
2nd Title Defense
While it is unusual for the AWL Grand Champion to be asked to defend his championship on two consecutive shows, but that's just how the calendar falls this year. This match should be interesting. Okada is still deeply entrenched in the G-1 Climax tournament in New Japan Pro Wrestling, and Sammy Nix has been a tag team wrestler his entire career. Two men who like to hit very hard, but with opposite philosophies Sammy Nix knows how to hit you with a thousand different suplexes whereas Okada focuses his entire offense around a single technique, the Rainmaker Lariat. These two ideas will be tested in the crucible of combat at Obon-nanza!
Now this leads to a bit of a problem. Right now, the AWL Best 4 looks like this:
1. Sammy Nix
2. Ganba
3. TBD
4. TBD
And after Obon-nanza, Sammy Nix will be out of the Best 4 one way or the other. So we will have three holes in the Best 4. Obviously, that is unacceptable so the AWL Commissioner has decided to hold a one night trios tournament!
AWL Best 4 Trios Tournament:
AWL All Stars
Shin Jidai
RUZAI
The Augments
These four teams will be randomly paired off for two preliminary bouts, but for the finals, the Commissioner is pulling out a rare but beloved AWL tradition:
AWL VIDEO CYBERNETICO V
The order of elimination of the winning team determines their ranking in the AWL Best 4.
That's 4 matches between the main event and the trios tournament, but I have it on good authority that the AWL Commissioner has one more HUGE announcement to make...but I'll let him make it himself tomorrow.

Full card for AWL 96
All
right folks, the full card for tomorrow's show is in. Not a lot of
matches this week. We only have a 1 hour broadcast window and the
main event could take some time.
Main Event:
VIDEO CYBERNETICO III!!
Curry Man vs. El Santo Azul vs.
El Rudo Rojo vs.
Super Giant vs. 新虎 vs.
A.J.Styles
You
all know the rules and you all know the stakes. But for each of
these men, there's more than just a title shot on the line. El Santo
Azul and El Rudo Rojo are hoping to escape the Danger Zone. Super
Giant seeks to become only the second double champion in AWL history.
Shin Tora wants to regain
the AWL World Light Heavyweight Title and prove his first reign was
no fluke. A.J. Styles wants to make his mark in the AWL (and further
rid himself of the stench of TNA), and Curry Man . . . . . Well Curry
Man is just crazy.
Non-Title Match
“Lightning" Mike
Quackenbush
vs.
Jack "Breakdown" Butcher
Once
again, the AWL World Heavyweight Champion has accepted a challenge to
a non-title match. But unlike last week, where Luke James had
nothing but the best of intentions, this week it's Jack Butcher and
you know that wherever he is, Yarina will be in tow. Many phrases
have been used to describe the CEO of Yarina Talent Management Inc,
"having the best of intentions" has never been one of them.
Quackenbush should probably watch his back.
“Peacemaker" Luke James
vs. Kid Canada vs. Tiger Mask
A
simple match. Luke James is one win away from escaping the Danger
Zone and both Kid Canada and Tiger Mask are one loss away from
falling into it. So the AWL Commissioner, on a whim, came up with
this match. One fall to a finish. One man will rise, one will fall,
and one will go home neither richer nor poorer. It's the cowboy vs.
The Japanese Legend vs. The Most Canadian Man in the World at AWL 96!
HAKAISHA! vs. Jon Shina
Yeah.
Don't expect this one to last long folks. One of the top athletes
in the AWL today vs the cheapest ripoff in wrestling since Gillberg.
Don't go to the concession stand, you'll probably miss the match.
It
all happens at AWL 96. The final title match for AWL 100 will be
set. The make up of Batsumania may be turned inside out. And Jon
Shina may be severely injured. Bring the kids! It's AWL 96 this
Sunday morning Japan Standard Time on awlwrestling.blogspot.com.jp.

The stage is finally set!
I
have just received news from the AWL Commissioner's office regarding
Video Cybernetico III!!
Here
are the trios for the opening round:
Curry
Man, El Santo Azul, & 新虎
vs.
El Rudo Rojo, Super Giant, & A.J. Styles.
For
those of you who don't know, the rules of an AWL Video Cybernetico
Match are as follows.
1.
6 men compete in two randomly
chosen teams in an elimination trios match.
2.
Unlike a Cibernetico Match, there is no batting order.
3.
At the end of the trios
portion of the match, if more than one wrestler remains on the
winning team, the compete in a 3-way or one on one match as needed.
4.
There is no time
limit in a Video Cybernetico
Match.
5.
The last man standing is the winner and will face Ma-Ji-Ku for the
AWL World Light Heavyweight Championship at AWL 100!
It
all happens this weekend at AWL 96, so be there!
