Finale Countdown Part 4: Tag team division
AWL 260 will be a
landmark moment in tag team wrestling.
One that podcasters in the distent future will discuss and analyze
endlessly. The night that the first AWL Joshi
Tag Team Championships will be awarded to the winners of the Joshi Tag Title
Tournament. Yes, we’re beating WWE to
the punch by months and NJPW by probably 35 years.
After over a month of
competition, we are down to two tag teams set to fight for their place in
history. The first, the best of the best
in the AWL Joshi Division. Akira Merune,
the undefeated Mistress of 1000 Holds and AWL Joshi Champion has the chance to
be the first wrestler in years to be a double champion in the AWL and the first
wrestler EVER to hold double gold with only AWL titles (past double champions
have held AWL gold and belts from other wrestling organizations such as NJPW
and Chikara).
In her corner is the
wrestler with the next best win loss record in the Joshi Division and genuine
AWL royalty: Dragoness. The Daughter of the
Dragon has brought her father’s signature wrestling style forward to a new
generation. Can she do for the AWL Joshi
Tag Team Titles what her father did for the original AWL Championship?
Across the ring from
the Queens of Wrestling will be two superheroes. Resu Yellow and Resu Pink of the Puro Sentai
Resurangers. That means that there will
be no traditional “bad guys” in this match.
Just two pairs of top-level athletes fighting to lay claim to the title
of Champions.
Over in the men’s division,
it’s far less historical, but no less significant. The New Classics make the second title
defense of their record setting 6th reign as champions. But the interesting part (not to mention the
biggest WTF story of Season 13), is who they’re defending against.
El Rudo Rojo has been
with the AWL since Season 2 when he and his brother El Santo Azul joined Team
Mexico for the World Warrior Exhibition, or WWE for short (yeah, that’s what
passed for clever back then). He became
the first wrestler in AWL history to lose his mask in Lucha de Apuestas. Since then he’s been either the leader or a
member of several teams and factions…to very little success. He’s a grumpy, bitter, angry man with a chip
on his shoulder the size of Mt. Fuji.
Mister Smiles, on the
other hand, is pretty much the EXACT opposite.
Joyful, outgoing, and a pleasure to have in any locker room. How those two have managed to spend ten
minutes in the same room, let alone the three matches it’s taken to earn their
three point.
This is never going
to work, is it?

AWL 257: A New Challenger(s) Approaches
Time got away from me this week. So, no news post. But the show is up on time and contains some great professional wrestling action. A reshuffle match in the Joshi singles division, the Joshi Tag Team Tournament enters the round of 4 (or is that 8?), and the little luchadore who could tries to secure his shot at AWL gold and vengeance for his idol. Lastly, a CHAOTIC tag team bout between Big Time Thug S and The Colony including the former and current AWL Grand Champions.

Joshi Matches Announced for AWL 256
This weekend’s AWL 256
will see action in both the tag team and singles domains of the Joshi Division.
First, of course, is
the continuation of the Joshi Tag Team Title Tournament. This week will be the last quarter final
match between the top two women in the AWL (Dragoness and Undefeated Joshi
Champion Akira Merune) and two of the top Luchadoras in the world today (Joya
and Tormenta Del Fuego). It’s the Queens
of Wrestling vs. the Ladies of Lucha.
In the singles
division, the AWL Best 4 has an open slot and that cannot stand:
Athena Jane vs. Wild Thing
Fight for 4
While neither woman
found success in the tag team tournament, their Win-Loss Records are impressive
enough to justify an opportunity to challenge for the Joshi singles title. Let’s just hope, if she wins, Athena Jane
learns her lesson and doesn’t blow it like she did last time.

Team #8 and Full Card
The eighth and final
team has been announced for the AWL Joshi Tag Team Championship Tournament…and
it’s a strange one.
Team #8. Monster Union: Wild Thing has teamed up with…The Manipulator? That weirdo in the plague doctor’s mask who manages
Hebitsukai? I didn’t even realize she
was a wrestler! I guess that makes her a
wild card in this tournament because nobody has any idea what she is or isn’t
capable of. Paired up with the already
unpredictable Wild Thing, this could get very interesting, very soon.
And I mean that
literally, because Monster Union will be in the first match of the tournament tomorrow
at AWL 253. Here now, the full card for
that event:
The Augments vs. Monster Union
Joshi Tag Team Tournament Quarter Final #1
H-03 vs. Hassan
Fight for 3
Ganba Hisshi Dark vs. Tiger Mask II
Fight for 4
Purosentai Resurangers (0) vs. The Augments (鉄 & Z) (0)
Points in Play
W-01 (C) vs. “Liger”
AWL Intercontinental Championship Match
1st Title Defense
Danger 13 (1) vs. Liga Cosmica (0)
Points in Play
Just as a reminder,
W-01 must defend his AWL Intercontinental Championship against everyone he didn’t eliminate in the Scramble Match
last week. (That literally nobody saw
apparently.) That means the Fake Liger,
Hassan, and Project-Z currently have title matches in their future. IF W-01 retains the title. IF a new champion is crowned, all such
promises are null and void.
Join us tomorrow for
AWL 253 and watch history be made as the AWL Joshi Tag Team Tournament begins!

Team #7 and Tag Team Action Announced
Welcome back for more
news of the Animated Wrestling League. First,
as with every day this week, it’s time to introduce a new team to the Joshi Tag
Team Tournament.
Team #7. Tiger & Bunny: No, I
have no idea if the name was inspired by the Anime of if it’s simply descriptive. Either way, the team of Spring Tiger and
Usa-chan could very well be a dark horse candidate to win this whole
thing. Spring Tiger’s classical training
allows her to pick apart any limb of the opponent’s body she chooses while Usa-chan’s
deceptive quickness gives her the advantage over stronger opponents. In both of their cases, their beauty and grace
lead the enemy to underestimate them.
With the Joshi Tag Team Championships at stake, that could be a fatal error.
But it’s not just the
women who have tag team action this week.
Two matches have been signed for the men’s division and they are:
Danger 13 (1) vs. Liga Cosmica (0)
Points in Play
Purosentai Resuranger (0) vs. The Augments (鉄 & Z) (0)
Points in Play

Team #6 and Filling the Gaps
Greetings wrestling
fans, I hope you’re all having a fantastic week! Before I get to today’s main news, let’s take
a look at another team entering the Joshi Tag Team Tournament:
Team #6. The Augments: As expected, Dr. Jigoku has added a pair of his
monsters to the tournament.
KiroshiMACHINE and a brand new Augment making her AWL Debut. There’s no way of knowing the details of this
mystery woman until she actually debuts, but one thing is certain, she won’t be
human.
Now for today’s
news. The AWL Commissioner has decided
to dedicate two matches this weekend to filling in the gaps in the AWL Best 4
for the Grand Championship. Currently,
Thief Ant & M-05 hold the top two slots.
The following matches will determine numbers 3 and 4 respectively.
Fight for 3
H-03 vs. Hassan
Fight for 4
Ganba Hisshi Dark vs. Tiger Mask II
If you’re wondering,
those matches were determined by Win Loss Ratio. HAKAISHA/H-03 and Hassan are fighting for the
higher rank because they have the better ratios.

IT'S TIME!
At long last, the AWL Joshi Tag Team Championship Tournament will begin
this weekend at AWL 253! Every day this
week, I’ll be revealing a new tag team that will be entering the
tournament. For today however, let’s
quickly go over the format.
8 teams will be
competing in this tournament. There will
be 4 quarter final matches over the next 4 weeks at AWL 253-256. The semifinals will be the following two weeks
and the finals to crown the first ever AWL Joshi Tag Team Champions will take
place at AWL 260, the Season 13 Finale!
The teams so far are:
Team #1. Yin & Yang: The first ever tag team of any gender in the
Animated Wrestling League. They’ve come
out of retirement to join the Joshi Division.
They’re also the only team in the tournament who’ve held tag team gold
in the past being the first ever AWL Tag Team Champions.
Team #2. Queens of Wrestling: If Yin & Yang represent the history of
the AWL, these two are the present. The
undefeated Joshi Champion and the only woman to have challenged for the title
twice. Friends outside of the ring, they
are a powerful combination inside it.
Team #3. Ladies of Lucha: Two of Mexico’s latest and greatest exports. Lucha Libre is a style recognized around the
world for its history and spectacular style.
While Joya and Tormenta de Fuego may be young both in terms of age and
their pro wrestling careers, they have all the tools needed to become champions
and this tournament is the perfect opportunity to put it all together.
Team #4. Modern Day Warriors: Power, power, and more power! That’s what these women are all about. Athena Jane, the final GWM Diva’s Champion
and former member of the AWL Best 4, is the strongest woman in the Joshi
Division by a mile. The only person who
comes close is her tag team partner, Jackie M.
With a century old chip on her shoulder, she will stop at nothing to
become a champion.
Team #5. Purosentai Resurangers: As we learned last weekend, Resu Yellow
has the power to jump across the gender line at will. She will use this power to join Resu Pink in
the tournament. Resu Yellow’s
athleticism and Resu Pink’s strength may prove the be the ultimate Resu Gattai.
