BREAKING NEWS! Title Match Set for AWL 341!!

The following news just came across the proverbial wires here at AWL HQ from one of the 8 men who failed to advance to the second round of the New Year's Tournament (The following was translated from the original Japanese by the AWL Translation Team:

I don't need to win the New Year's Tournament to put myself into the title picture.  At 341, I am cashing in my Golden Opportunity.  Kid Canada, out of respect, I'm giving you fair warning.  You had better tune up your wrestling game, because this is going to be a SUBMISSION ONLY MATCH and your first defense of the AWL Grand Championship will be your last.

Kid Canada announces stipulations for AWL 340.

The day has finally come!  The Complete AWL Intercontinental Champion Kid Canada has the right to name the stipulations for his cash in match for the AWL Grand Championship at AWL 340.  He's taken his time to come up with something that will insure a fair fight for the biggest prize in the Animated Wrestling League.  This morning, the following message arrived in the inbox at AWL HQ (we've removed the several paragraphs of apologizing for the delay):

Sorry, but I'm not going to play Jigoku's game and cheat in my favour, eh?  Sorry, I need this to be a fair fight, eh?  Sorry, but none of your friends...or mine...will be involved in this match because it's going to happen in a big old STEEL CAGE, eh?

Sorry, but it means a lot to me to know I'm a better professional wrestler than Hakaisha (or whatever Jigoku is calling him this week), eh?  Sorry, but I'm not going to beat you once, I'm going to do it twice, eh?  Sorry, this match is going to be 2 OUT OF 3 FALLS, eh?

--Kid Canada

GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY TO BE CASHED IN!

Chaos erupted at AWL HQ today when we the following message arrived in our inboxes:

This message translated from the original Japanese by the AWL Translation Team:
When you are granted a privilege, either by your own hard work or by a fluke of chance, you have a moral duty to use that privilege to help others.  Sometimes that means helping the less fortunate and sometimes it means helping the friends who got you to where you are today.
In that spirit, I’m cashing in my Golden Opportunity to help my partner ResuPINK become a champion.  We challenge UK Gen2 for the AWL Joshi Tag Team Championships!  Jessica, Emily, consider yourselves fairly warned.

--ResuYELLOW

Well, that’s that then.  Normally, I would wait for confirmation from the AWL Commissioner before reporting something as important as a title match.  But the rules of the Golden Opportunity are such that the AWL Commissioner doesn’t get a voice in this one.  Therefore:

UK Gen2 (C) vs. Puro Sentai Resurangers (GO)
AWL Joshi Tag Team Championship Match
1st Title Defense

Main Event for AWL 220 confirmed and a challenge has been issued.

It’s official!  We have the main event for AWL 220, the Season 11 Finale:

AWL 220 MAIN EVENT:
“Peacemaker” Luke James (C) vs. Tiger the Great III (IC)
AWL Grand Championship Match
1st Title Defense
IC Title Cash-In
Match to be contested under GWM Rules!

Nothing less than the fate of the Animated Wrestling League is at stake as Luke James will fight to end the threat of GWM once and for all.  However, should he falter, GWM will control the AWL Grand Championship and hence the Animated Wrestling League itself.

In other news, Ganba has issued a formal challenge to Dr. Jigoku for a match with (and I can’t believe I’m about to type this) the Skull Head Killer!!!  That…thing…has never competed in an actual wrestling match.  I spoke to Ganba as soon as I heard the news of the challenge, he said that “Luke is doing his part to protect the AWL, I must do mine also.  That monster has been allowed to pick us off one by one for too long.  I will do what I must to end it.  That’s all!”

Unfortunately, it appears that it isn’t as easy as it looks.  I was able to get the following comment from Dr. Jigoku:

I shall endeavor to use small words so you can understand: If Ganba wants to commit suicide, fine.  But he CAN’T fight…my associate.  If my Augments don’t control a championship it’s almost impossible to…make…him…appear.  Ganba simply isn’t worth the…sacrifices…it would take to give him his little wrestling match.  If he likes, he can fight Project Tetsu.  That’s what it was built for in the first place.  But without a belt, he’s not going to get what he wants.

                --Dr. Jigoku.

AWL 200: Season 10 Finale

AWL 200 pt.1: Season 10 Finale 投稿者 AWLBoss
AWL 200 pt.2: Season 10 Finale 投稿者 AWLBoss

OK, funny story.  Turns out that if you stay up until three am two night in a row while sick in a desperate attempt to meet your self imposed deadline is a dumb idea.  Specifically, after getting everything done you forget the single most important detail...POSTING THE FREAKING SHOW TO YOUR WEBSITE!!!

So yeah, these videos have been on Daily Motion for about a day now.  But if you're reading this, then you probably don't care that much and you're here for the wrestling show.  So please enjoy!!

See you next year four Season 11.

No, that wasn't a typo.

Several notes and final ranks.

In the few hours or so since AWL 198, several important messages have come into AWL HQ that have serious implications for the future of the AWL. The following messages have been translated into English by the AWL Translation Team as needed.

Chiba Akagi:
I have made my decision! Of course, I want the match on December 18th in the Tokyo Dome at AWL 200!!

After speaking with the only other wrestler to ever cash in the AWL Grand Championship, Hassan, I have decided to take his advice and pick a match that plays to my strengths. Therefore our match will have the following stipulations:

1. Dr. Jigoku is BANNED from ringside.

2. The match will be SUBMISSIONS ONLY.

3. The match will be a 30 minute IRON MAN MATCH!

They call me the Scion of Submission and not only do I intend to live up to that name, I intend to prove you wrong. I believe...no...I KNOW that man can outlast machine and I'm willing to be that you're going to be so exhausted and warn down by the end of this match that nothing will stop me from becoming the NEW AWL Grand Champion.

The second message we received appears to be completely unrelated and came from Curry Man...I'm sorry, Curry Man SPICY:

Curry Man SPICY:
Konnichiwa! Ore ha Curry Man desu. SUUPA SUPAISHI desu! Ore ando Buraku Taiga ha 2 pointo ICHIBAN!! No tagu machi! No gudo!! AWL 200. Tokyo Dome. AWL Ichiban! Curry Man Ichiban! Curry Man Fighto! Curry Man WINU!!

AWL 200 De...Tiny CHALLENGE! Curry Man Big & Spicy no Ichiban! Tiny Big & Spicy no NIBAN!! Curry Man SPICY noku Tiny daunn!!

(TRANSLATORS NOTES: First of all, we're pretty sure this idiot doesn't speak a word of Japanese. Second, what we think he said is that he's upset that he an Black Tiger III aren't in contention for a Tag Team Title Match at AWL 200. He then seems to challenge Tiny to a match to prove that he was the strongest member of Big & Spicy.)

The final message we got last night was from Dr. Jigoku. Now remember, at the time this message was sent, the bad doctor did not know the stipulation chosen by Chiba Akagi.

Well well well, since it looks HIGHLY unlikely that the so called Shin Jidai won't be busy at AWL 200, I have decided to take them up on their offer to be destroyed by my Augments. I will even honor their request to...remove...my Augments if Shin Jidai can beat us. However, since they have no titles to offer, they will have to put something else on the line to make it worth my while.

If and when my Augments defeat those foolish children, they must give me...THE STAR OF AZTEC!! That little stone has been...a curiosity...to me for quite some time. I think it's high time such a powerful artifact be granted to a SUPERIOR owner.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

Last thing, the final rankings in the Clash of Styles Tournament going into tonight's AWL 199:

1. Powerhouse: HAKAISHA! (11/0)* Guaranteed to enter the Final.
2. Hardcore: Tanaka Kenichi (10/0)
2. Specialists: Sammy Nix (10/0)
3. Lucha Libre: Ma-Ji-Ku (9/0) X
4. Technical: Kid Canada (8/0) X
5. Tiger Style: Black Tiger III (4/0) X
6. Strong Style: Yamada Jiro (2/0) X
7. Brawler: Luke James (0/0) X

That's all from AWL HQ for the moment. AWL 199 comes at you in just a few hours. After that, we should have a full card for AWL 200, so stay tuned right here to AWL Wrestling for all the latest breaking news on the Animated Wrestling League!

Stipulations announced.

I am pleased to report that Hassan has finally announced his choice of stipulations for the main event of Golden War 2016:

Hassan:
Wyvern, I've thought long and hard about this. I could stack the deck in my favor. I could make it a three on one match where whoever on my team pins you, I get the title. I could ban you from using your finishing moves, or any move that isn't a headlock. I probably couldn't make it a "Hassan Wins Match" but I could try if I wanted.

Luckily for you Wyvern, I don't want to win that way. What I want is a fair fight. That's why neither of us will be allowed to have anyone in our corners at the Golden War. No Dragon, no American Beetle. Just you and me, man to man.

But I also want this to be over. April 26th, 2015. Nearly one year ago. That is when Vacant defeated Daniel Bryan for the WWE Intercontinental Championship, ending his career. It was roughly one week later that I won that WWE title. 24 hours later, I learned that Vacant had agreed to our title match without Vince's say so and that WWE would not recognize me as IC Champion. So I asked the AWL Commissioner about it. He said I could be announced as WWE IC Champion (since I had the belt), but that I couldn't defend the title on his show without opening the AWL up to a crushing lawsuit.

Thinking back on that conversation, I said some things to the commissioner that probably should have gotten me fired. I regretted it as soon as I left the office. But, to his credit, the boss not only didn't fire me, but he hasn't mentioned it since. But there IS something he said that stuck with me, "You want me to do this? Then MAKE me do it. Earn it!"

I did.

More than 11 months later and I sit here in my last few days as AWL IC Champion. Wyvern, I'm glad I get to fight you. You burst on to the scene and made the AWL yours. 5 matches and you're the Grand Champion, I respect that. But that didn't sit well with everyone in the locker room or the Arena. Some people are even saying you're the AWL's Roman Reigns!

So now it's YOUR turn to earn it. Prove all your doubters wrong. Prove that you can win the big match on your own.....and in decisive fashion. If you're going to keep your title, you'll have to win it the way I won mine. 2 out of 3 falls!

AWL Super Card—Golden War 2016
Main Event
Wyvern (C) vs. Hassan (IC)
Animated Wrestling League Grand Championship Match
Intercontinental Championship Cash-in.
Stipulations: 2 out of 3 falls, all parties barred from ringside.

4th Title Defense

3 Matches Announced for the Golden War!

After everything that happened last weekend, it's time to make this official:
AWL Super Card—Golden War 2016:
Main Event!
Wyvern (C) vs. Hassan (IC)
AWL Grand Championship Match
Intercontinental Championship Cash-In
Stipulations: ???? (TBA)
4th Title Defense
That's right, the AWL IC Title is being cashed in for the very first time! As you can see, Hassan has not announced what stipulations (if any) he will add to the match. So stay tuned this week to see if he decides to break that news.

This brings us to our second match announcement, with Hassan taking the Grand Championship Match at the Golden War, what does that mean for the current #1 contender, Wonder Kid? Well, this is supposed to be a show all about the gold, all about the championships, so...
Wonder Kid (#1) vs. Ganba
Clash of NYT Champions!
That's right, the only two men to ever win the AWL New Year's Tournament TWICE (Wonder Kid in 2010 & 2014. Ganba in 2011 & 2015) will face each other one on one reigniting one of the longest and most storied rivalries in AWL History!
Now for our third and final announcement. Last weekend American Beetle attacked Jon Shina before the later's scheduled match with Mr. Smiles. Apparently, Beetle was angry that Jon Shina has been running around with the United States of Awesome MEGA Championship (which Shina appearently fished out of the garbage) and has been calling himself a champion.

American Beetle has been fined the equivilent of one week's pay and both Shina and Smiles have been paid as if they had won the match.

However, the AWL Commissioner is not a fan of the "fake title" thing and has decided that these two will settle matters one on one at the Golden War:
American Beetle vs. Jon Shina
GRUDGE MATCH
(Unofficially for the UsofA MEGA Championship)

If American Beetle wants his belt back so badly, he can try and take it!
