Final Promos
We all knew this was coming.
With AWL 180 less than 24 hours away, it's time for the final words
from both champion and challenger in the main event. And unlike some
main events I can think of, both of these men have passed their
physicals and their drug tests so the fight is on!
First, our guest and challenger:
RAINMAKERオカダカズチカ
(Translated from
Japanese):
I
have three things to say:
1:
The AWL Grand Championship is a title second only to my own IWGP
Heavyweight Title. But still second. When I become champion, the
AWL Grand Championship will be elevated to a brand new level.
2:
Hassan is one of the few American wrestlers I respect. I watched his journey to become Intercontinental Champion and then Grand Champion and
I was impressed. He's worthy of being beaten by me in the main event
of any show in Japan.
3:
When I become double champion, I will make myself available for title
defenses at all AWL events. If that conflicts with any New Japan
shows, I'm good enough to wrestle twice in one night, so it doesn't
matter.
Hassan!
Tomorrow you and I will Make. It. Rain!
Hassan:
Wow! You're lucky you're
one of the best wrestlers in the world, because you'd be an
insufferable prick otherwise. Yeah,
you're good and so am I. We're both champions so you have every
right to call yourself the Ace of New Japan...but this isn't New
Japan. This is the Animated Wrestling League! This is the company
I've worked for almost my
entire professional career.
I've been here since Season
Zero when we were wrestling in whatever dive we could book that could
fit a ring. Of the 4 guys I started this in this company with,
exactly none of them are left in the AWL or in wrestling at all!
Rasputin, Lee, Jack, shout out to you guys, A.O.E. forever!
The
AWL is my home away from home. Hell, with all the garbage going on
back in the states now, this may become my home, period. If
you think I'm going to let some bleached blond pretty boy with a good
dropkick, a stiff lariat, and a bad habit of dressing like the love
child of Donald Trump and Mr. T just walk into my home and take my
title without the fight of his life, you've got another think coming.
See you Sunday and we'll see
if your wrestling backs up your mouth.

It's Personal
At AWL 180, two very personal
feuds will be fought out in the AWL ring. First and foremost, Tanaka
Kenichi and Wyvern will wrestle for the AWL Intercontinental
Championship. But this is about far more than the belt and the road
to glory it offers. This is about revenge.
Exactly one season ago at AWL
160, Tanaka Kenichi (then wrestling under the false identity of
"Captain AWL") was the AWL World's Light Heavyweight
Champion and fought then World's Heavyweight Champion Dragon to unify
the belts and create the AWL Grand Championship. In that match,
Tanaka Kenichi delivered an unnecessarily stiff AWeLbow to Dragon's
head giving him a career ending concussion and becoming the first
ever AWL Grand Champion.
Wyvern is Dragon's chosen
successor. Personally selected from the AWL Dojo to carry on the
dragonic tradition in the AWL. It's been an amazing rookie season
for The Young Dragon. Winning the New Year's Tournament on his first
night in the AWL. Becoming the second AWL Grand Champion in his
first title match. Going undefeated until Golden War. But there's
one thing he has thus far failed to do. Avenge his teacher. To that
end he has defeated the rest of Tanaka Kenichi's stable RUZAI in both
singles and tag team matches.
There is nothing left to say.
Sunday the AWL Intercontinental Championship will be on the line. But
so will a young man's chance at justice.
Tag Team Promos
At AWL 180 the Tag Team Division
will be on full display as we have not one but two tag team bouts on
the card. Today all four tag teams set to compete at AWL 180 have
the chance to address both you fans and each other. First the
under card tag match featuring the debut of the newest member of the
AWL All Stars:
AWL All Stars:
Luke James: First
of all, no. No, Ah'm
not telling you who mah
partner is. You'll have to watch AWL 180
to find out. But Ah
can assure you that we looked
up and down the AWL Roster and found someone who has been here for
years and has earned the respect of the fans. He's got alotta tag
team experience as well as more than a few singles matches under his
belt. Other than that, y'all
just need to keep guessing. Now, as for the Strike Warriors, we
ain't got no heat with either of them. Ah just asked the
Commissioner for a tag match at 180 and they're the team he came back
with. Nothin' personal. See you boys at 180 as the next chapter of
the AWL All Stars begins.
Strike Warriors:
Strike Taka (Translated from
Japanese): Nothing personal?
Team he came back with?! That's
the kind of disrespect and dismissal I've been hearing my entire
career! That's what drove me to...that's what made me who I am. And
I am not taking it any more. I've partnered with one of the greatest
luchadores in the world and certainly the best the AWL has ever seen.
We are NOT an after thought!
And at AWL 180, we are going to prove it!!
Next, the champions and
challengers in the AWL World Tag Team Championship Match:
Big & Spicy:
Tiny:It's
been a long road getting here. Both my main man CM and I have been
out of action for a while. Me
with some nagging injuries, and him with his comedy career out in
Osaka. But we finally made it back home to the AWL. Not only that,
we we have three points and the chance to climb to the top of the
mountain once again and get our AWL World Tag Team Title back!
Hakaisha,
Bunny, y'all stole our thunder. Every AWL fan knows that Big &
Spicy are THE big man/little man tag team in this league. Hakaisha,
I'll give you props. You're hella strong. Last week you lifted me
up and slammed me with one freaking arm! Much respect man, much
respect. And yeah, your little buddy beat my little buddy. But the
whole is greater than the sum of its parts and while you are two
great wrestlers, we are one great team! See ya Sunday.
Destroyers of Doom:
HAKAISHA! (Translated from
Japanese): Tiny, Curry, welcome
back. You've earned your three points fairly and you are worthy
challengers to the titles. But we
are the standard bearers. We started the season with nothing, not a
single point to our names. But now we stand at the summit of the AWL
Tag Team Division and we
welcome all challengers. Especially anyone willing to fight with
honor. The AWL has too many
cheaters and cowards who are too scared or too foolish to fight fair.
But not Big & Spicy. So this Sunday, come. Fight us. Try to
take our titles...The Right Way!

Batsumania (Final?) Promos
At AWL 180, 4 men will enter the
AWL Ring. One of them, will enter it for the last time. Today as
part of Finale Countdown Week, we have what will be the final promo
for one of these AWL Wrestlers:
American Beetle:
Earlier this week America celebrated the Fourth of July. A time to
remember. A time to celebrate. More than 200 years ago, America
fought against all possible odds in a battle the world thought we
could not win. The British Empire was the most powerful military in
the world at the time. Everyone
knew the odds were against us, but the American thrust for the
American dream and American freedom in America was TOO STRONG!!
July
10th I will find myself fighting against all odds. 3 other men with
as much to lose as I have. 3 other men who have their careers
hanging by a thread. Three other men who will fight to the bitter
end to survive. But my American spirit is TOO STRONG and I will be
victorious...for AMERICA!!
Jon Shina:
Batsumania is the. Biggest.
Event. Of. The. Year!! And when the lights. Are on bright.
That's when Jon Shina rises to the challenge!! All three of those
poopy heads are going down because the Batsumania Champ. Is. HERE!!
Mr. Smiles:
Look at this as a positive.
AWL only has two season finales a year. Six to eight matches on each
finale. That means that there are only 40 or so slots for wrestlers
to compete at a season finale. And in two seasons in the AWL, I've
been on both finale cards! That's AWESOME!! Not only am I on the
show, I'm OPENING the show!! The AWL is putting their best foot
forward and that means Mr. Smiles!!!
E.N. Hance:
I f***ing HATE Batsumania!
Yeah, I don't win a lot of matches. OK, I get it, that sucks. But
when I DO win these Batsumania matches, all of a sudden the wins
don't count? Bull****!!! I work my ass off every ****ing day in the
gym and I still have to fight just to keep my job? You know,
whatever. I don't care anymore. At least I'm getting paid for this
****.

Final Card for AWL 180
This time comes but twice a year.
The Animated Wrestling League Season Finale is THIS WEEKEND!!!
Today the AWL Commissioner has
announced three more matches for AWL 180. They are:
THUGLIFE Tanaka Kenichi (C)
vs. Wyvern
AWL Intercontinental
Championship Match
4th Title Defense
Wyvern defeated Bruce Hoyt at AWL
179 to earn this opportunity and golden vengeance!
Azteckaizer NEO vs. The
Augments
1 on 3 Handicap Match
For reasons I have yet to fathom,
Azteckaizer NEO actually ASKED for this 3 on 1 situation. My guess
is the AWL Commissioner responded with "OK, your funeral."
Chiba Akagi (#2) vs. Sammy Nix
(#3) vs. Ganba (#4)
Reshuffle Match
Winner Challenges for the
Grand Championship at AWL 181
This will be a 2 fall elimination
match. The loser of the first fall will be #4, the loser of the
second fall #3, and the winner of the match will be the #2 contender.
However, after the main event of AWL 180, numbers 2 through 4 of the
AWL Best 4 will move up in rank to establish a new #1 contender. So
this is a defacto #1 Contender's Match. Will it be the Scion of
Submission, the Suplex Specialist, or the Japanese Mega Star to make
the first Grand Championship challenge of AWL Season 10? Tune in
this weekend to find out.
With that, the full card for AWL
180 is set. EIGHT huge matches for your viewing pleasure and they
are:

Full Card for AWL 179
Before I get into the matches for
Sunday's show, I want to apologize for the lack of news updates this
week. I've been unusually busy at work and what little free time I
have has been spent on sleep. But enough about the person behind the
curtain. You're here for the wrestling so here's the full card for
AWL 179: The Season 9 Go Home Show!
AWL 179
MAIN EVENT
Hassan, Azteckaizer Neo, &
"Peacemaker" Luke James
vs. RAINMAKERオカダカズチカ,
Project 鉄,
& Ma-Ji-Ku
Finale Preview Trios Match
The AWL Commissioner has really
pulled a big one here. Not only will the champion and challenger in
the main event Grand Championship Match at AWL 180, but Azteckaizer
NEO will be across the ring from the most powerful of the Augments
AND Luke James will cross proverbial swords with one half of the team
he and his mystery partner will face at the Season Finale
Furthermore, the team of Okada,
Tetsu, and Ma-Ji-Ku makes no sense whatsoever! Okada may be an
outsider to the AWL, but he knows who the Augments are and the
Rainmaker would NEVER willingly agree to work with them. And
Ma-Ji-Ku hates the augments as much as anyone considering what Dr.
Jigou did to the Warrior of Light's tag team partner. Assuming the
boss hasn't lost his mind, the only explanation is that he wants
this trio to be more than a little dysfunctional.
Wyvern vs. Bruce Hoyt
The young dragon's quest for
revenge on RUZAI continues as he faces a man he has never beaten in
one on one competition. If Wyvern can overcome the frightening fists
of Bruce Hoyt, the AWL Commissioner has made it known that Wyvern
WILL get his chance at Tanaka Kenichi.
DOOMBUNNY vs. Curry Man
HAKAISHA! vs. Tiny
Up next, a pair of matches
previewing the AWL World's Tag Team title match at AWL 180. It'll be
powerhouse against powerhouse and crazy high flier verses crazy
high flier in this battle of the big man/little man tag teams.
THUGLIFE 田中健一
(C) vs. American Beetle
AWL Intercontinental
Championship Match
3rd Title Defense
As announced yesterday, the
Patriotic Pugilist will have one last chance to save himself from
Batsumania. If American Beetle can defeat Tanaka Kenichi and claim
the AWL Intercontinental Championship, Beetle will be SAFE from
Batsumania and Tanaka will be right back where he belongs in the
Danger Zone!
NOTE: The AWL Commissioner has
made it clear that the outcome of this match will NOT affect Wyvern's
right of revenge if he earns it by winning his match against Bruce
Hoyt. I'm not sure what that means, but I was ordered to include it
in this post.
That's all for today. See you on
Sunday for AWL 179!

Or is it? Because the AWL

and has made this match for this Saturday at AWL 179:
THUGLIFE 田中健一
(C) vs. American Beetle
AWL Intercontinental
Championship Match
3rd Title Defense
It that doesn't work, the
Batsumania Match for AWL 180 will be set in stone. Additionally,
with Curry Man and Tiny earning their 3rd Point against the Strike
Warriors, they will challenge for the AWL Tag Team Titles at AWL 180.
Meaning that the current card for the Season 9 Finale is as follows:
MAIN EVENT
Hassan (C) vs.
RAINMAKERオカダカズチカ (#1)
AWL Grand Championship Match
3rd Title Defense
AWL vs. NJPW

AND THIS JUST IN:
AWL All Stars (“Peacemaker"
Luke James & X) (0) vs. The Strike Warriors (0)
Points in Play
Yes, as he mentioned to me at in
our interview last week, the AWL All Stars are looking for a new
third member to replace the retired Dragon! While I have no idea who
that is, the AWL Commissioner has announced that this new All Star
will make their debut as part of the team at AWL 180.
But there is one more week before
AWL 180 and the AWL Commissioner is putting together the card as we
speak. I should have it for you tomorrow.
Before I go, one important bit of
news. Despite suffering a hellacious beating at the hands of Tanaka
Kenichi last weekend, "Peacemaker" Luke James has been
evaluated by AWL Medical Staff and our chief medic Dr. Marcus
Feelgood and the cow boy HAS been cleared to compete at AWL 179!

Interview with "Peacemaker" Luke James
I like to end the week by either
speaking to or publishing some comments from members of the AWL
Roster. This week I sat down with a member of the AWL All Stars and
7 season veteran Luke James in the lobby of his hotel in Tokyo.
Ryusensei:
Luke, that's for agreeing to meet with me. There's a lot that the
AWL fans want to know about you. First
off, why do you live in a hotel?
Luke James:
No problem Ryu. And Ah live here when Ah'm in Japan because it's a
lot cheaper than rentin' an apartment when I only live here a few
months at a time.
Ryusensei:
Make sense. Now for the big question everyone's been asking since
AWL 175. Where have you been all season?
Luke James:
At home in the states. Ah
needed a break. After what happened to Dragon...Ah just needed to
get away for a while and Nashville's tha best place in tha world to
get away from it all.
Ryusensei:
Do you blame yourself for what happened to Dragon at AWL 160?
Luke James:
Yes...no...Ah don't know. Did Ah know Dragon hadda history a
concussions? Yeah. Did we all know "Captain AWL" used a
elbow fer his finish? Yeah. Should
Ah have tried ta talk him out of the match? Ah don't know.
Ryusensei:
Do you think it would have worked if you'd tried?
Luke James:
Probably not. But probably
ain't definitely.
Ryusensei:
Moving on if you don't mind. When you came back, you looked quite a
bit different. Different hair color, new ring gear, facial hair,
etc. Any reason for this or was it just time for a change?
Luke James:
Just time fer a change. But Ah should mention that this is my
natural hair color. The red head look was just a wrestling thing.
Ryusensei: You
recently returned to teaming with Ganba as the AWL All Stars. At
the moment you have no points on the board. With Ganba competing
this weekend to rejoin the AWL Best 4, are there any plans to recruit
a new member to the AWL All Stars to give you someone else to tag
with?
Luke James:
What tha heck? Yeah, there is. Ganba an Ah are looking at tha AWL
roster for a bit of a recruitment drive.
Ryusensei:
Any chance you'll give me some names?
Luke James:
Nope.
Ryusensei:
Last question. You are set to challenge Tanaka Kenichi for the AWL
Intercontinental Championship in
a no DQ match tomorrow. Any
thoughts?
Luke James:
"Any thoughts?" Are y'all serious? Mah thoughts are that
Ah'm gonna beat the ever loving piss outta that sumofabitch. He
ended mah best friends career. He retains his title by punchin' guys
in the nuts. And he's a champions despite havin' tha wrestling IQ of
dead skunk. That boy's had a whooping comin' ta him for a LONG time.
Tha fact that Ah'm gonna get the AWL IC Belt outta it is just a
bonus.
That seemed to be all there was
to say so I ended the interview right there. Tune in tomorrow and
see if Tanaka Kenichi gets that whooping he so richly deserves.

AWL 180 Card So Far.
As promised, here are the matches
we know about for AWL 180, the Season 9 Finale:
MAIN EVENT
Hassan (C) vs.
RAINMAKERオカダカズチカ (#1)
AWL Grand Championship Match
3rd Title Defense
AWL vs. NJPW
Champion vs. Champion
While we're on the subject, all
of us here at the AWL would like to congratulate the Rainmaker on his
victory at the New Japan Pro Wrestling Dominion PPV to become a
4-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion. While the IWGP title will not be
on the line at AWL 180, we will be honored to once again have such an
illustrious championship grace the AWL Arena.
American Beetle vs. E.N. Hance
vs. Jon Shina vs. TBD
BATSUMANIA!!
Loser of the Final Fall is
FIRED!!
一二三龍二 (Hifumi
Ryuji) vs. 破砕機 (Hasaiki)
AWL Dojo Graduation Match
Special Guest Referee: Dragon.
Winner earns a spot on the AWL
Roster.
The name of the second potential
graduate has been added since I last talked about this match. As
always with graduation matches, I know nothing about these students.
I can tell you that Hasaiki means "Crusher" in Japanese,
but there have been so many "Crushers" in pro wrestling
that the name doesn't really tell you anything. As always, AWL Dojo
Head Trainer Dragon will officiate the match.
And now two matches just added:
Destroyers of DOOM! (C) vs.
TBD
AWL World Tag Team
Championship Match
3rd Title Defense
Obviously, at the moment nobody
has the necessary 3 points to challenge for the titles, but Big &
Spicy have 2 points and even if they can't pick up a third in the
next two weeks, the AWL Commissioner is VERY good at finding
challengers when he needs to.
THUGLIFE田中健一
(C)(If still champion) vs.
????
AWL Intercontinental
Championship Match
?th Title Defense
OK, this is a weird way to write
it. The point is that the AWL IC Title WILL be defended at AWL 180
no matter who the champion is. This means that all the championships
are on the line.
So far that's 5 matches for the
Season Finale on July 10th. More will be announced next week after
AWL 178. And I'll have the full card for 178 tomorrow. So stay
tuned!

As things stand, only El Rudo
Rojo and Mr. Smiles are at risk of being forced to compete in the
career threatening Batsumania Match at AWL 180. However, the AWL
Commissioner has made two matches for next week that will hopefully
solidify everything going into the finale:
For AWL 178:
THUGLIFE 田中健一
(C) vs. "Peacemaker"
Luke James
AWL Intercontinental
Championship Match
NO DISQUALIFICATION MATCH
2nd Title Defense
Last weekend, Tanaka Kenichi
deliberately fouled his opponent twice to force a
disqualification and save the AWL IC Title. To say the AWL
Commissioner was not happy would be an understatement. That's why
this match will have a no DQ stipulation.
Obviously, if Luke James wins,
Tanaka will no longer have the AWL IC Championship to save him from
Batsumania. However, should the cheating, blackmailing, fraud manage
to slither away with the title, the Commissioner has prepared the
following rematch:
El Rudo Rojo vs. Mr. Smiles
Danger Zone Match
So one way or the other, we will
known the four fired men walking for AWL 180. Speaking of the season
finale, tomorrow I'll run down the card as we know it so far.

More promos
Yesterday we heard from the
rudos, now it's time to get technical with the technicos:
Azteckaizer NEO (Translated
from Japanese): The
Star of Aztec is a heavy burden that comes with heavy
responsibilities. The Bearer of the Star of Aztec is responsible for
maintaining the balance of good and evil in the world of professional
wrestling. That is a burden
you will never carry Jigoku. If you had been worthy, the Star would
have found you and not me. Already
I've beaten your "Engine of destruction." Next, your
cloned rabbit. I will show you and him the true power of the Star of
Aztec.
Wyvern (Also translated from
Japanese): Two weeks ago I made
a mistake. I underestimated both Maglubiyet Jr. and the depths to
which Tanaka Kenichi would sink to win a match. Last weekend he
showed me the depths of his dishonor when he got himself disqualified
just to save this title. When I was Grand Champion I fought some
tough battles, but I NEVER even considered something like that. This
weekend I'm going to wrestle a boxer. And I mean that. I'm going to
wrestle him...and I'm
going to OUT wrestle him. Tanaka,
you're
next. Then justice will
finally be served.

The bad guys speak.
In the last 24 hours I've gotten
a record amount of messages here at AWL HQ that I'm supposed to pass
on to you, the reading public. Since many of these posts are too
long as is, I'm going to split these up into several sections and
post them over the rest of the week. So let's get started by getting
the annoying ones out of the way first:
RUZAI:
Bruce Hoyt:
Wyvern. Get over yourself boy. Yeah, my man Tanaka &%$#ed up
your teacher. You mad, I get it. But takin it out on us is just a
waste of time kid. Ain't gonna get Dragon his brains back. Besides,
you biting off more an you can chew dog. You ain't $&!% around
here. Surprising folk at the New Year's Tournament and lucking your
way intta the belt don't impress me one bit. I've
been workin here since damn near day one! You think just because you
got some fancy flippy moves and a cool mask you betta dan me? Nuh
uh! Try and prove me wrong son and I will knock you the %&#*
OUT!
The Augments:
Dr. Jigoku:
For many years I have heard stories about the Star of Aztec. That
it granted a warrior the power to surpass their limitations and
become something greater. I
had always assumed the Star of Aztec was a legend. In truth, it was
those legends that inspired me to pursue the sciences so that I may
find real ways to break through the limitations of flesh. But
now not only do I know the star is real, it's HERE! Just waiting for
me to take it. Azteckaizer NEO, last week you learned what happens
to those you think they can best my Augments. You learned that we
are SUPERIOR! The
Star of Aztec WILL be mine. It's only a matter of where, when, and
how

In addition to the Grand Championship Main Event, Wyvern and
Azteckaizer NEO continue their quests against RUZAI and The Augments

AWL 180 Card so far.
It's that time of the season
wrestling fans! With less than a month to go until AWL 180, we're
starting to piece together the card for the Season 9 Finale:
AWL 180:
???? (C) vs. RAINMAKER オカダカズチカ
(by then #1)
AWL Grand Championship Match
? Title Defense
BATSUMANIA!
E.N. Hance vs. Jon Shina vs.
American Beetle vs. ???? (Currently El Rudo Rojo)
And this just added:
一二三龍司 vs. X
AWL Dojo Graduation Match
Special Guest Referee: Dragon!
Winner joins the AWL Roster
That's right, not only is the
head trainer of the AWL Dojo Dragon ready to give the Prince of
Pinfalls Hifumi Ryuji another chance at promotion to the main roster,
he has another wrestler ready to fight him for that slot. With one
AWL Wrestler leaving the company after Batsumania, a slot is open and
waiting for one of these young rookies.
Lastly today, I can confirm what
we all already knew was going to happen next weekend (which is why
I'm leaving it for last):
For AWL 177:
MAIN EVENT!
Hassan (C) vs. HAKAISHA! (#1)
AWL Grand Championship Match
2nd Title Defense
Wow! First Wonder Kid and now
the Japanese Destroyer. Who's next? The ghost of Andre the Giant?
(Too soon?) But Hassan has been the underdog his entire life. He
knows what it means to climb mountains, human shaped or otherwise.
I have been told that I will have
the full card for AWL 177 tomorrow. So stay tuned right here for
more of the Animated Wrestling League.
