Old Business

Happy October wrestling fans. I thought it would be a good idea to start this week with a few bits of old business.

1. AWL 187 is ONLINE AND AVAILABLE FOR VIEWING!! I have no idea why it took the better part of 24 hours for the show to encode, but it's now available both on Dailymotion and right here on AWL Wrestling.

2. Monday morning I spoke to AWL senior medical official Dr. Marcus Feelgood regarding the mysterious injury that kept Frederick Victor from wrestling last Sunday and forced the emergency change of opponents for Lee Masters.

Long story short, Marcus had no earthly clue what I was talking about. The injury was a total fraud!! The AWL Commissioner was PISSED OFF as I'm sure you can imagine. Both members of The Empire have been fined and Lee Masters has been awarded the winner's share of the purse from the match. However, since Masters agreed to the match and the official acknowledged the victory, the results still stand in the AWL Win-Loss Records. The referee's decision is final.

3. On to more pleasant things, as was announced at AWL 187, Liga Cosmica will make their regular season debut this coming week. I can now announce their opponents...THE AUGMENTS! Liga Cosmica are sitting on 2 Points after the Tag Gauntlet so if they beat whatever combination of freaks and monsters Dr. Jigoku can cough up, they will earn a shot at the AWL World Tag Team Championships!

4. Speaking of the tag team titles, Shin Jidai and The New Classics also have a date with tak team destiny in the form of a rematch with 2 Points in play. Shin Jidai will be represented by the combination of Matt Classic Jr. And the 2016 New Year's Tournament Winner, Wyvern.

5. According to the AWL Rule Book, in the event that more than one team holds 3 points, the team that wins their third point first will get the first title match with future title matches proceeding on a first won-first served basis.

Lastly, I have been told that the AWL Commissioner will make a formal address to you, the AWL fans tomorrow so stay tuned to this blog!

AWL Commissioner's Announcement

Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am the AWL Commissioner.  And it  is my great pleasure to announce what shall be a defining feature of the tenth season of the Animated Wrestling League.  Ever since the inception of the league, I have had one cardinal rule: All forms and styles of professional wrestling are welcome here!  But the time has come to see which form is the best and in the world of professional wrestling we can do this in only one way:

The AWL Clash of Styles Tournament!

An 8-Man round robin tournament featuring Representatives of the following styles:
1. Lucha Libre
2. Technical Wrestling
3. Powerhouse Wrestling
4. Strong Style
5. Hardcore Wrestling
6. Brawling
7. Specialization
8. Tiger Style

The CoS Tournament shall be scored thusly:
2 points for a win.
1 point each for a draw.
0 points for a loss.
(All matches contested to a 10 minute time limit)

The two men with the highest scores (after any necessary tie breakers) shall meet at AWL 200 in the CoS Final.  The winner shall receive:

1. The title of "Ultimate Master of The Ultimate Style of Professional Wrestling."

2. A \100,000,000 cash prize.

3. A Golden Opportunity!
(For those of you who do not follow Chikara, this means an open contract for any match, any time, any place, any title, any stipulation.)

It should be a fantastic tournament!  The first two matches to determine the first two Representatives shall take place this Sunday at Obon-Nanza.

THIS!  I have COMMISSIONED!!! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

New IC Champion to be determined!

After everything that happened at Golden War 2016, we not only have a new AWL Grand Champion AND new AWL World Tag Team Champions, we need a new AWL Intercontinental Champion as well.

The AWL Rule Book clearly states that once the AWL IC Title is cashed in, win or lose, a 6-Man Scramble Match shall be held as soon as possible to determine a new champion. The AWL Commissioner has decided that AWL 172 is the perfect opportunity. So next Sunday, we will have a one night tournament consisting of 6 singles matches, the winners of each match shall enter the main event Scramble Match for the AWL Intercontinental Championship!

But who shall fight? Simple, 6 men who won their matches last Wednesday at the Golden War (minus Hassan and anyone already in the AWL Best 4 of course).

Those 6 men are (In no particular order): The Doombunny, Project Tetsu, Azteckaizer NEO, American Beetle, Bruce Hoyt, and Maglubiyet Jr.

They will face the top 6 AWL Wrestlers (in terms of Win-Loss ratio) not currently Grand Champion or in the Best 4: Ganba, Jack Butcher, Lee Masters, Sammy Nix, Ma-Ji-Ku, and Yamada Jiro.

The exact matchups will hopefully be announced tomorrow so stay tuned!

On the nature of time (limits)...also points.

The AWL Commissioner is always looking to improve the AWL and the off season grants the boss the opportunity to tweak and improve the rules without pulling the rug out from under our fighters mid season. As such, there are 2 MAJOR rule changes that will go into effect at National Pro Wrestling Day 2016:

1. Longer time limits in tag team and multi-man matches.
In an effort to reduce the number of time limit draws and to raise the prestige of the AWL World Tag Team Titles up to match that of the Grand Championship the following changes are hereby enacted:
1 Point tag team match: 15 minute time limit.
2 Point tag team match: 20 minute time limit.
3 Point tag team match: 30 minute time limit.
Tag team title match: 30 minute time limit.
All singles matches featuring more than 2 wrestlers (triple threat, 4-way, etc.): 15 minute time limit.

2. Elimination rules in multi-man matches. Points by fall.
All multi-man matches (see previous examples) will be contested under elimination rules and each fall shall count as a victory in the AWL win-loss rankings. For example, if an AWL Wrestler pins both of his opponents in a 3-way match, he shall be considered to have won 2 matches. If an AWL Wrestler pins 2 opponents and is then pinned himself in a 4-way match, he shall be considered to have won 2 matches and lost 1.

Season 9 is mere days away and the Animated Wrestling League is just getting better.
