Two More Matches for AWL 229
新時代 (2) vs. 日本良かった (0)—Points in Play
Wyvern
and Matt Classic Jr. look to pick up their third point against Yamada Jiro and
Hasaiki of Nippon Yokatta. We’ve been
looking for challengers for T49P’s AWL World Tag Team Championships for over a month
now. Will the second generation stable
finally reach that rare and exhausted status?
Or will Yamada Jiro, no doubt angry at being forced to fight a 外人 like Matt Classic Jr., play spoiler?
Big Foot (#3) vs. Cage
Probably
the biggest big man match we can present given the current roster. While we haven’t seen the machine from the
559 in a long time, he is still an active member of the AWL Roster and eligible
to knock Big Foot out of the Best 4 and take his place.
Speaking
of the AWL Best 4, the AWL Commissioner was unable to find room on this week’s
card for a Fight for 4. I have been
assured that we will have such a match next week at AWL 230, though the
participants have not been announced (and, I suspect, haven’t been decided
yet).
See
you this weekend for AWL 229.

WEEKLY DIVA DIRT
We have a lot of Diva related news this week. First, it’s time to crown as new #1 Contender
to the GWM Diva’s Championship. In the
last few weeks, Natsuko, Kyuuketsu Lady, and Fox Payne have all won 1-on-1
matches and will face off in a Triple Threat Match. The first Diva to score a pin or submission
will face Queen for the GWM Diva’s Championship!

5 Challengers Announced!
It’s still all about the unprecedented AWL
Intercontinental quintuple title defense set to take up the entire broadcast
window of AWL 216. And as of today we
know the names of the 5 wrestlers who will face Tiger the Great III for the IC
title. They are, in order:
1. Mr. Smiles.
2. Wyvern
3. Prince Puma
4. Ma-Ji-Ku
5. Ganba
I think we were all expecting a who’s who of the
Animated Wrestling League and some of these names certainly qualify. Ganba and Wyvern are former Grand Champions
and Ma-Ji-Ku is the longest reigning champion of any kind in AWL history. As for Prince Puma, he’s a former Lucha
Underground singles and trios champion.
Plus, he was the first winner of Aztec Warfare, so he’s used to unusual
matches…But he’s not a full time AWL Wrestler.
Then there’s Mr. Smiles, who makes absolutely NO sense in this
situation.
I was able to get a couple of seconds with the AWL
Commissioner and asked him about both Puma and Smiles.
“Prince Puma is Tiger Mask II’s friend. As for Mr. Smiles, winning the Animated
Wrestling League Intercontinental Championship automatically saves him from the
Danger Zone. I want the challengers to
be properly motivated. Revenge and
self-preservation certainly qualify as proper motivation to me.”
There you have it ladies and gentlemen, right from the booker’s mouth. We have out challengers and this Sunday at AWL 216, we’re taking that title back!

News dump
GWM Press
Release:
Last weekend GWM SHOCKED the Wrestling World when our
GWM World’s Heavyweight Champion made his first ever appearance in the AWL
defeating former AWL Grand and Intercontinental Champion Tanaka Kenichi in mere
minutes.
At The Golden War 2017, the GWM Universe will be on
hand as The Third takes his rightful place atop The Kyuukyoku Summit!
--Miss X
OK folks, RyuSensei here. You just read the press release from GWM manager
Miss X. Funny how she didn’t mention El
Caracas’ loss last weekend, isn’t it?
Well, either way, we now know all 8 champions who will compete in the
Kyuukyoku Summit Tournament for a Golden Opportunity at Golden War 2017.
Therefore, I can now reveal the bracket and match-ups
for the first round of this unique tournament:
Match 1: Juan Francisco de Coranado (Chikara) vs.
Wrestler X (AWL)
Match 2: Johnny Mundo (Lucha Underground) vs.
Christopher Daniels (RoH)
Match 3: Okada Kazuchika (NJPW/IWGP) vs. Texano Jr.
(AAA)
Match 4: Drew Galloway (WCPW)* vs. The Third (GWM)
All matches were decided by random draw. Matches in the first and second round will be
contested under 15 and 20 minute time limits respectively. The final match will have NO TIME LIMIT. In the event of a time limit draw, BOTH
wrestlers will be eliminated from the tournament.
It all goes down during our AWL Super Card—Golden Week
2017!
*Recently, WCPW General Manager Plumpy went on YouTube
saying that WCPW had two remaining dates with Drew Galloway before he becomes a
full time NXT talent. That wasn’t exactly
true. They had 3 dates with Drew and we
here at the AWL offer our most sincere thanks to them for giving us one of
those three dates for this tournament.

3 More Champions Announced!
Golden War 2017 is going to be a truly international
event. Here are three more champions
that the AWL Commissioner has signed for the Kyuukyoku Summit:
5. Lucha Underground Champion: Johnny Mundo.
6. AAA Mega Champion: Texano Jr.
7. WCPW Champion: Drew Galloway.
As always, these names are subject to change in the
event of title changes between now and the Golden War. In the event that Drew Galloway is unable to
appear due to his commitments to WWE and NXT, a suitable replacement will be
found.

Housekeeping notes.
OK wrestling fans, just a couple
of quick logistical points today.
First, there will be no new
episode of the AWL this weekend. Our next episode will be Golden War
2016 on May 4th. But check this blog regularly all week for more
information and late breaking developments on this massive event.
For example, I can tell you that a new match for Golden War 2016 will
be announced tomorrow!
Second, there has been a big
shake up in the AWL Tag Team Division and I'm not just talking about
the results of the Tag Gauntlet. Last week in Boyle Heights
California, at The Temple, two members of the trios team The
Disciples of Death were killed (or whatever it is you do to zombies)
buy their own partner. At the time of their deaths, the D.o.D. had
one point in the AWL Tag Team Division. That point has been deleted
and the team has been taken off the board.
Finally today, two matches were
made last Sunday at AWL 171 for Golden War 2016:

Lucha Showcase at AWL 160
A
little while ago, I mentioned that the AWL Commissioner was out of
town looking to book a "Something special" for AWL 160.
Well, now I can tell you at least most of what that was. The AWL
Commissioner was in Mexico this past week talking to people at AAA
Lucha Libre. Everyone here at the office thought that the boss was
there to smooth things over with AAA politically after AWL Wrestler
Vacant defeated Alberto El Patron for the AAA Mega Championship.
Turns out he was up to much more than that:
For
AWL 160:
LUCHA
SHOWCASE!
Prince
Puma, Ma-Ji-Ku, & X vs. El Rudo Rojo, King Cuerno, & X
Trios
Match
Interestingly enough, both Prince
Puma and King Cuerno are Lucha Underground wrestlers but Dario Cueto
seems to have completely disappeared and the new El Hefe of The
Temple, Catrina, has not been returning the Commissioner's phone
calls and doesn't appear to have an e-mail address at all. Luckily,
the AWL Commissioner was able to come to handshake agreements with
both Puma and Cuerno to appear for this match. Additionally, those
who unnamed wrestlers? They will be a special guest Technico and a
special guest Rudo from AAA Lucha Libre. Let the speculation begin!

Full Card for Obon-nanza 2015
The AWL Commissioner has kept his word. The main event for tomorrow's Kyoto premier will be a "Special Challenge Match" (translation, a world title match where the challenger is NOT #1 in the Best 4). Here now, the full card for the first Super Card of the season:
AWL Super Card--Obon-nanza 2015:
Main Event:
HAKAISHA! (C) vs. Mil Muertes
AWL World Heavyweight Championship Match
9th Title Defense
Hassan vs. 山田二郎
International Incident
DOOMBUNNY vs. ウサギKick
Grudge Match
4 Faction Trios Tournament:
Augments vs. AWL All Stars vs. Bullet Club vs. New Classics
And this match just added:
El Santo Azul vs. El Rudo Rojo
Brother vs. Brother
And before anyone asks, yes. There WILL be a regular episode back in the AWL Arena next Saturday. And yes. The AWL World's Heavyweight Champion (whomever that may be) WILL defend their title against #1 Contender Project 鉄 as scheduled. It's going to be a busy week for everyone here and I need to get on the next shinkansen bound for the ancient capital.

AWL 142: El Santo Azul vs. Tiger Mask II 投稿者 AWLBoss

Champion vs. Champion!
HUGE match signed for AWL 123!
The AWL Commissioner has personally spoken to both Konnan and Dario Cueto to set up a Champion vs. Champion rematch this weekend:
Prince Puma vs. The DOOMBUNNY
During the 2015 AWL お正月大会, these two animal avatars met in battle. It was an opening round match and the Lucha Underground Champion was victorious in that encounter. Now the pride of the Animated Wrestling League is at stake as our Light Heavyweight Champion faces the current King of The Temple. It'll be the grace and power of the puma verses the speed and wits of the rabbit at AWL 123.
