AWL 353

OK, I've been unacceptably lazy in keeping up this blog.  I'd blame my upcoming international move but you're wrestling fans and don't care about that sort of thing.  So, as AWL 360 is getting ready to start airing next week, I'm going to start catching up with back episodes.  So, here from back in the first week of May is AWL 353: GOLDEN WAR 2021!

Full Card for AWL Supercard: Golden War 2020

The matches are set.  The Golden Quadrangle faces its first real test at the hands of some of the best the AWL has ever seen.  Tag team partners will clash, mysteries will be unveiled, and stars will rise.  We may be staying home to save lives, but the wrestlers of the Animated Wrestling League are going to WAR!

AWL Supercard: GOLDEN WAR 2020!
MAIN EVENT
Jigoku DESTROY (C) vs. ResuRED (#1)
AWL Grand Championship Match
3rd Title Defense
In the main event, the greatest prize in all of animated wrestling will be on the line as the leader of the most prominent heroes of the AWL faces Dr. Jigoku’s newest and most successful Augment.  The winner of the 2020 edition of the prestigious New Year’s Tournament.  An AWL Triple Crown Champion.  The most successful wrestler in terms of both career wins and win-loss records.  The only augment DR. Jigoku has ever put his name on.  Jigoku DESTROY!  It’s a clash between hero and monster for the AWL Grand Championship!

The Augments (C) vs. The New Classics (3)
AWL World’s Tag Team Championship Match
1st Title Defense
From the leader of a great team to the undisputed greatest team in the history of the AWL.  Two Season 0 Originals that have held the AWL World’s Tag Team Championships a record setting six times defeating legendary teams like The All Americans, Big & Spicy, The AWL All Stars, Bullet Club, and Nippon Yokatta to win the gold.  What do all those teams have in common?  None of them exist in the AWL anymore and, apart from Bullet Club, none of them exist at all.  We can only hope the Augments will join that list.

X-Drone © vs. Azteckaizer NEO
AWL Intercontinental Championship Match
1st Title Defense
When it comes to the only championship in the AWL where the AWL Commissioner has unilateral authority to name a challenger, he is not pulling ANY punches.  He has named the most recent former AWL Grand Champion and man with one of the most impressive win-loss records in the AWL.  Furthermore, it’s possible that the X-Drone’s duplication systems will be unable to copy the full power of the Star of Aztec.  But can we risk the power of the IC title on a mere possibility?

Dragoness © vs. Akira Merune (#1)
AWL Joshi Championship Match
4th Title Defense
The only title match at this year’s Golden War that doesn’t involve the Golden Quadrangle.  Dragoness has done a respectable job of establishing herself as a champion with some impressive and decisive title defenses.  But now she faces far and away the biggest challenge of her career, her own tag team partner and the woman who defined the AWL Joshi Championship.  Dragoness has never defeated Akira Merune in a title match.  Now she must or lose her best just as her title reign is hitting its stride.

K & K (0) vs. Yamada Jiro & X (0)
Points in Play
Yamada Jiro seems to be on a roll when it comes to getting on his soap box and lamenting the sins of the Japanese people…and then losing matches to the people he calls out.  This time, he’s doubled his trouble and set his sights on the team of former stable mate Kyoujin Kobayashi and all time asshole Tanaka Kenichi.  As much as I personally oath the idea of hoping Tanaka Kenichi wins a match, this might be an exception.  But Yamada has one rather large problem…everyone hates him.  He claims to have a partner lined up, but I’ll believe it when I see it.
Ma-Ji-Ku vs. ????
Just yesterday, a strange post was made to this blog by person or persons unknown.  Nobody knows who posted it, but the only part that made sense was that a challenge has been laid down.  As a result, the Warrior of Light has agreed to take on this open challenge.  He knows something about the forces of darkness, so there’s none better to be the first to tackle what ma be a new threat to the Animated Wrestling League.

Hasaiki vs. Mr. Smiles vs. Michael Dunne vs. Hifumi Ryuji vs. King Akira vs. The Roc vs. Black Tiger Justice vs. Satoshi Tobu.
Over the Top Rope Battle Royal!
It’s a simple fact of the professional wrestling business that matches on Supercards pay better than normal bookings and winning on a Supercard pays better still.  That’s why the AWL Commissioner has decided to take 8 wrestlers from lower down the rankings of the AWL and throwing them into this battle royal situation.  No titles are on the line but momentum and an all important trip to the pay window most certainly are!

Tag Team Promos

This weekend at AWL Sakuramania Wrestlegenesis, no less than 6 tag teams will enter the AWL Ring.  Titles and points will be on the line.  First, I went to the champions and challengers for the AWL World’s Tag Team Championships…to limited success.

Tiger Mask W:
Spring Tiger: I’m sorry, but Tiger Mask II & Tiger the Dark are in training and cannot be disturbed.  But I can promise you that at Sakuramania Wrestlegenesis you will see the best version of Tiger Mask W you’ve ever seen.  Considering that they have to wrestle a pair of in human monsters, they’re going to have to be.
Huh?  No, Tiger Mask II was not seriously injured in his match with whatever’s left of Hakaisha.  Bumps, bruises, and a seriously wounded pride, but nothing else.  He’ll be fine by this weekend.  The heeling techniques of the Tiger Dynasty were up to the task.
The past is behind us, what matters now is keeping the AWL World’s Tag Team Titles away from Dr. Jigoku.

The Augments:
Dr. Jigoku: Go away!  I have preparations to make.  No time for foolish questions.  No time no time no time!!

Not the most productive of interviews I know, but I had more luck with the 4 teams that will participate in the 4-Way Elimination Match.  3 teams to eliminate.  1 point per elimination.  Any team that runs the table will walk out with 3 points and an AWL World’s Tag Team Title Match.  All 6 losers go home with nothing.  Two teams enter the match with zero points.

Solar Wings:
Erupcion Solar: It’s hard to find your niche in the AWL.  I haven’t been very successful since Sensei retired and I’d hoped a new tag team would bring me back to my roots.  Our first two matches didn’t work out, but we still made it onto the supercard and we have a chance to walk out of the AWL Arena with 3 points and a fast track to the tag team titles.  Now, our opponents are all great wrestlers…
The Roc: AWW give The Roc a break!  Our opponents at Sakuramania Wrestlegenesis are a combination of no talent jobronis and washed up has-beens.  The Flying Yukis?  More like the flying dookies!  They may have been the AWL Tag Team Champions of the world, but they’re still called the Cinderella story, well the fairy tale ends HERE AND NOW!  Kyojin Kobayashi, nothing but an overgrown pile of monkey crap that doesn’t know a hammerlock from his hemorrhoids and Tanaka Kenichi, Jesus Flying Christ on a 2x4 does that little bastard SUCK!  7 years in the AWL and can anyone name on single thing he’s done on his own without cheating?  Anyone?  Anyone at all?  The Roc didn’t think so!  That brings us to Cross Has Kinky Sex with Generation or whatever the blue hell their name is.  Now The Roc will give credit where it’s due, you two beat The Roc and Erupcion Solar last week.  You both know what you’re doing inside our ring.  But Chiba Akagi, all your holds and locks and bars and bells and whistles mean exactly SQUAT when there are 4 other guys, a living lucha legend, and THE most electrifying professional wrestler in the world today to breakup everything you try!   And Matt Classic.  What else is there for The Roc to say about Matt Classic other than, “YOU’RE TOO OLD FOR THIS!”  You failed your kid and now you’re going to fail every student you’ve ever trained.  Chiba Akagi has a better chance at becoming AWL Joshi Champion before he holds a tag team title with your broken down old ass.  At the Supercard the only thing that will happen is the Solar Wings walking out #1 contenders, IF YA SEEEEEELLLLLLL THE ROC’S MERCH.  EN.  DICE!!

The Flying Yukis:
Hiroyuki Shota: Our whole careers we’ve been the underdogs, the Cinderella story, the little guys who didn’t belong in the tag team title picture.  We’re sick of that!  This elimination match is the first step to proving we aren’t a fluke.  We’ve gotten 3 points in one match before so we’re in familiar territory here.  Others can talk a big game and we’ll do our talking in the ring.

Ryusensei here yet again.  The teams you just heard from come in with nothing to lose.  However, last weekend two teams picked up a point.  This is a double edged sword.  On the one hand, they only need to beat two teams to earn a title shot giving them a big of wiggle room.  On the other hand, they have something to protect.  Something to lose.  Let’s see what they think going into this match.

K&K:
“THUGLIFE” Tanaka Kenichi: BIG man, YES!  BIG winner, YES!  My no Mr. BIG MAN win win win 3 points perfecto!  We are cool!  You am f**k!

CrossXGeneration:
Matt Classic Sr.: I don’t know anything about this kind of match, but Chiba tells me that I basically have to beat everyone who isn’t on my team.  Doesn’t sound too difficult.  But I know the entire AWL is asking the same question.  How is this going to help me get my claw on that coward Ganba?  Simple.  Wins are power.  Belts are power.  If I get enough power, I can force that demonic bastard into a match.  Is it a great plan?  Probably not.  Maybe I just miss coaching young technically gifted wrestlers.  Lee and Sammy don’t need me anymore.  But I can still to some good.  I need a drink.

SECOND Title Match Announced for AWL 269!

AWL 269 will feature TWO championship bouts!  In addition to the Grand Championship Match already announced, the AWL World’s Tag Team Titles will be defended.  That means that, after weeks of waiting, we will finally see the debut of the all-new and complete Tiger Brothers!
Cubs and students no longer, Shin Tiger Jr. and Black Tiger JUSTICE have spent the weeks since winning their tag team titles in seclusion in the Tiger’s Cave completing the rituals and ceremonies necessary to become full tigers.  The first cubs to EVER receive such a promotion under the Unified School of the Tiger Style!  They will make their in-ring debut next weekend at AWL 269.
They will defend against the team of Yamada Jiro and “Liger” of Nippon Yokatta who won their third point last weekend.  I’d hate for this young tag team so focused on unity and progress be defeated in their first defense by a couple of xenophobes.

Full Card for AWL 262

AWL 262:
MAIN EVENT
The New Classics (C) vs. Big Time Thug S (3)
AWL World’s Tag Team Title Match
3rd Title Defense
A bit of old business from last season as Batsumania survivor Tanaka Kenichi and his pet giant are sitting on 3 points and are therefore entitled to a match for the World’s Tag Team Championships.  Much to all of our regrets.  Fortunately, The New Classics should be MORE than up for the task.

Tiger Mask II vs. W-01
Fight for 4
The AWL Commissioner’s primary goal this week is to fill in all the holes in the AWL Best 4.  In this case, it’s the men’s division.  W-01 is fresh off a big win last week against Chiba Akagi and Tiger Mask II is the wrestler with the best Win-Loss record not currently in the Best 4.  Tiger vs. Dragon…I think there’s a movie plot in there somewhere.

Resu Pink vs. Tormenta de Fuego
Fight for 4
Over in the Joshi division it’s a super strong superhero vs. a high flying luchadora.  This sort of interdisciplinary match is what I love most about the Animated Wrestling League.  There’s a WWE style, a New Japan style, and a Ring of Honor style.  There’s no such thing as an AWL style.  All forms of professional wrestling are welcome here.

Tiger & Bunny (0) vs. The Modern Day Warriors (0)
Points in Play
Speaking of the Joshi division, it’s time to make a little history.  At last season’s finale, we crowned the first ever AWL Joshi Tag Team Champions in The Queens of Wrestling.  Now, we need challengers.  So, for the first time ever, two teams will compete with the winners receiving their first point towards title contention.  What?  Of course they need three points to challenge.  What have I been saying ever since the Joshi Division was founded?  The rules for the women are the same as the men.

The Flying Yukis (1) vs. The Tiger Brothers (1)
Points in Play
Speaking of the men (I am nailing the segues this week!), The Tiger Brothers have declared their goal, win the World Tag Team titles and earn their stripes.  Their next obstacles are the young hot new tag team of Season 14, The Flying Yukis.  No matter what happens, the winners of this match will be only one win away from a title match.

Resu Yellow vs. DB-02
Rounding out the card for this week is an opportunity for revenge.  During last weekend’s atomicos match (which, sadly, ended in a draw), Resu Yellow and the slave formerly known as the Doom Bunny found themselves brawling all over the AWL Arena.  This weekend, they will have the chance to settle things one on one.

Full Card for AWL Supercard Obon-nanza 2018!!

Ok, so I’m currently on vacation and don’t have as much internet access as I expected to have.  Hence the lack of daily updates.  But I can’t let Obon-nanza 2018 pass without at least some hype.  So, let’s go match by match:

AWL SUPERCARD: OBON-NANZA 2016!
MAIN EVENT:
AWL All Stars (Luke James, HAKAISHA, Ma-Ji-Ku, Doombunny) vs. The Augments
Elimination Atomicos Match
If the Augments lose, they will be BANISHED from the AWL!
It’s rare that we have a supercard where the AWL Grand Championship is NOT the main event, but this is SUCH a big deal that we have no choice.  For reasons I personally don’t understand, Dr. Jigoku has agreed that the Augments will leave the AWL for good if they lose this first ever elimination 4 on 4 match.   Whatever his reasons, we can’t let this opportunity pass. So the match is on!

THUGLIFE田中健一 (C) vs. 破砕機 (#1)
AWL Grand Championship Match
2nd Title Defense
OK, this is weird.  Hasaiki earned his way into the AWL Best 4 by defeating Tanaka Kenichi in their qualifying match at the Clash of Styles Tournament.  Then, Hasaiki miraculously won a reshuffle match to earn this match.  Personally, I have no idea how to react to this.  I hate that humanoid slime Tanaka Kenichi, that’s no secret.  However, I can’t support the idea of the AWL Grand Championship falling into the hands of a bunch of racists like Nippon Yokkata.  So, I’m just going to hope a meteor strikes the ring or something.

Tiger Mask W (C) vs. Liga Cosmica (3)
AWL World’s Tag Team Championship Match
3rd Title Defense
Liga Cosmica earned their third point last weekend and now they get their shot at the gold.  The Unified School of the Tiger Style has made history by first combining the Golden Tiger and Black Tiger Schools and now by taking on apprentices.  Can they continue their legacy by extending their tag team title run?

Dragoness vs. Tormenta del Fuego (Debut)
Dragoness Debut Series!
You read that correctly.  Dragoness has decided to continue her father’s Dragon Debut Series in the Joshi Division.  Who is Tormenta del Fuego?  Other than the fact that it translates to “Firestorm” in English, I know nothing.  And yes, I’m beginning to know this is becoming a pattern with this show.  I don’t like it any better than you do.

HOF (Mike Quackenbush, Dasher Hatfield, & Ultramantis Black)
vs.
The Forgotten Warriors (Eddie Kingston, Jaka, & CombatANT)
Trios Match
After what happened at AWL 242, where The Forgotten Warriors jumped the Chikara team after the bell, this match was inevitable.  One fall to a finish as it should be.  Let’s settle this in the ring.

ResuRed vs. Fake “Liger”
The Purosentai Resurangers have told us that they are here to fight monsters and invaders.  The fake liger certainly qualifies in my book.  This will be the first singles match for any of the super heroes, let’s hope they’re up for the challenge.

Full Card for AWL 222.

As promised yesterday by the AWL Commissioner, here’s the full match card for AWL 222: Tag Teams Take the Stage complete with their current point totals.  Remember, you need 3 points to challenge for the AWL World’s Tag Team Titles.

AWL 222: Main Event
T49P (C) vs. The New Classics (3)
AWL World Tag Team Championship Match
1st Title Defense

Nippon Yokata (1) vs. Tiger Mask W (0)

AWL All Stars (0) vs. The Destroyers of Doom (0)

Liga Cosmica (0) vs. The Empire (0)

Shin Jidai (Azteckaizer NEO & Wyvern) (0) vs. X-Drones (0)

If you like and respect tag team wrestling, you’re going to love AWL 222.  See you there!

Title Match Announced!

GWM Universe!  Vengeance will be ours!!  Miracle 1 and Miracle 2 are cashing in their automatic rematch clause for the GWM Tag Team Titles.  However, since Silver Ant is not medically cleared to compete, GWM Authorities have allowed him to select another member of The Furies to act as co-champion under the Freebird Rule.

That championship match will take place this coming weekend at GWM WrestleMAX!

Interview with Frederick Victor

With the Tag Team Gauntlet Match less than 48 hours away, I managed to get on Skype with Frederick Victor of The Empire from his town house in London.  Big Jerry’s flat apparently isn’t set up for high speed internet…somehow.

RyuSensei: Champ, thank you for agreeing to talk to me today.

Frederick Victor: No bother at all my good man.  I assume you wanted to discuss our upcoming championship bout?

R.S.: Yes, sir.  As you know, the challengers for your titles will be determined this weekend in a Tag Team Gauntlet Match, do you have any preferences for a winner?

F.V.: Not as such.  Sadly, the tag team division in the AWL is…rather lackluster at the moment.  I feel we can defeat any team currently on the roster.  However, I encourage all of the teams to give it a jolly good try and earn the privilege of fighting myself and my associate.

R.S.: OK, any teams you would like to see lose?

F.V.: Interesting question.  Of course, as a loyal member of the AWL Roster, I do not wish to see GWM have any more chances to win our championships.  Additionally, I think we’re all just about finished with those little fellows from Mexico.  League Cosmic?  I think that’s what they’re called.  They’ve had their chances.  Time to make way for new blood.

R.S.: We’ll see what happens on Sunday.  While I have you here, I have a couple questions about you and Big Jerry.  First of all, how did you too meet?

F.V.: I placed an advertisement in the papers looking to hire a professional wrestler, he was the most qualified candidate who replied.  Simple business transaction you know.  I believe he was working some…municipal job.  Rubbish collecting, road works, something of that sort.  I offered him the chance to elevate himself and he’s taken advantage of it rather well I’d say.

R.S.: There has been a great deal of criticism of your team over the past year.  Accusations that you “make Jerry do all the work” in your matches.  How would you answer these charges?

F.V.: Absurd!  I suppose it’s not horribly surprising that people who know nothing about the fine art of professional wresting wouldn’t recognize basic strategy when they see it.  You see, ours is a partnership of unequals.  Jerry is my superior in terms of physical power and size, whereas I am his superior in skill and mental prowess.  He does the damage by breaking down our opponents and I finish them off with superior technical wrestling.  A simple strategy, I admit.  But it works splendidly.

R.S.: I doubt that will convince anybody, but that’s all the time we have for today.  Thank you, Frederick Victor, and I’m sure you’ll be watching along with the rest of us on Sunday at AWL 219 as we determine the tag team #1 Contenders in the Tag Team Gauntlet Match.

Two Title Matches for Golden War 17

Much of the focus of Golden War 2017 has been on the Kyuukyoku Summit (and understandably so considering the unprecedented nature of 8 champions competing in one tournament), but it’s important to remember that there will be other matches on this show (that’s what makes it a Super Card after all)  so today I’m here to confirm that there will be two championships defended during Golden Week:
The Empire (C) vs. The Menagerie (3)
AWL World Tag Team Championship Match
1st Title Defense

Tiger Mask II (C) vs. Sylverhawk
AWL Intercontinental Championship Match
4th Title Defense

For those who have not been following the AWL or the wider world in independent wrestling, the Space Monkey lost his Chikara Young Lion’s Cup over Wrestlemania weekend to Wani but this in no way revokes his invitation to compete in the AWL and Sylverhawk pinned Tiger Mask II in a tag team match several weeks ago to earn an IC title shot.

Two titles AND a Golden Opportunity will be on the line at AWL Super Card—Golden War 2017!  Don’t miss it!!

Saturday, April 8, 2017

Full Card for AWL 209.

It’s been a long week, but we now have the full card for tomorrow’s AWL 209 event:

AWL 209:
MAIN EVENT
Liga Cosmica (C) vs. The Empire (3)
AWL World’s Tag Team Championship Match

Intercontinental #1 Contender’s Match

THUGLIFE田中健一 vs. Mr. Smiles

XyberhawX2000 (Razorhawk & Nytehawk) (0) vs. The Augments (0)
Points in Play

And this match just added:

Azteckaizer NEO (AWL) vs. Big Foot (GWM)

Massive News Update

OK, the Animated Wrestling League is reeling form the new of the last 48 hours across the wrestling world.  Possibly the most significant comes from outside the AWL.  We may or may not have more on that as things progress.

As for the Animated Wrestling League, the biggest story coming out of AWL 208 is that we have a NEW AWL Grand Champion: Wrestler X.

It may be fair to say that dark days have returned to the AWL.  The last time one of Dr. Jigoku's Augments held the most coveted prize in animated wrestling, it was nothing less than death for more than half a dozen AWL Wrestlers.  We have not seen the Skull Head Killer since Project Tetsu lost the title to Chiba Akagi, will it return now that The Augments control the title?  We shall have to see.

Also at AWL 208, The Empire earned their 3rd point over The Great Americans meaning that, for the first time this season, the AWL World Tag Team Titles will be defended next weekend at AWL 209:
AWL 209:
Liga Cosmica (C) vs. The Empire (2)
AWL World's Tag Team Championship Match
1st Title Defense

Finally, the AWL Commissioner has announced that there will be a face off between the two men who earned their way into the intercontinental title picture to determine who gets the first crack at Tiger Mask II for the gold:
Sylverhawk (力) vs. Yellow Devil (GWM)
Intercontinental #1 Contender's Match
I think this will be the first time in AWL History that wrestlers from two outside companies will compete for the right to challenge for an AWL championship.

That's all I have for today.  Tomorrow the AWL Commissioner has promised a major update on The Golden War 2017.

Thursday, November 24, 2016

Full Card for AWL 195 and HUGE announcement!

Good evening ladies and gentlemen, I am the AWL Commissioner.

It has been a...trying time here in the Animated Wrestling League. For various reasons we have had to delay many of our programs this season. As a result, we are behind schedule. Since we have booked the Tokyo Dome for AWL 200 on December 18th (and our booking fee is non-refundable) we must, as the young people say, play catch up.

Therefore, I have COMMISSIONED that the first two weeks of December shall be DOUBLE HEADER DECEMBER in the AWL! That's right, new episodes of the Animated Wrestling League on BOTH Saturday and Sunday of those weekends!

This! I have COMMISSIONED!!!! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!
