A whole lot of promos.
Friday is turning into promo day
around here. Let's start of with the young man who debuted last
weekend and became the first person to WIN their Dragon Debut Series
Match. Ladies and gentlemen, the newest member of The New Classics:
Matt Classic Jr.
Wow! I gotta admit. I didn't
expect to win that. Dad always told me that Dragon was one of the
best in the world and he didn't say that about a lot of the boys.
And I agree with him. Let's be clear about this. I beat Dragon on
the night. I was the better man on the night. But I'm not
a better wrestler than Dragon. Not yet anyway. One of the lessons
that's been drilled into my head, "In that ring, any man can
beat any other man." And that's what happened at AWL 137.
Dragon made one critical mistake and I was able to take advantage and
win the match.
What mistake? Simple, Dragon
heard my name, saw my mask, and expected me to be a carbon copy of my
father. Well Dragon and the AWL fans learned better and fast. I
love my dad, I'm proud to wear his mask, but I am my own man
and I wrestle my own style. Yeah, you'll see the Classic Claw, Matt
Classic Press, that sort of thing. But just as dad represented the
history of professional wrestling, I represent the present and the
future. The future starts now!
Humble and impressive words from
the young masked marvel. Coming up next we have comments from the
champion and challenger in this weekend's AWL World Heavyweight Title
Match. For the sake of simplicity, these comments have already been
run through the AWL Translation Team and will be published in
English. First, the Challenger:
Ryusensei: Ganba, thank you for
your time. Before we discuss your match this weekend I have to ask
you about AWL 137. With HAKAISHA unable to appear for your announced
match, you could have won the title by forfit, but you refused the
match. Why?
Ganba: Really? Do you think I
want to become champion that way? No. HAKAISHA beat me fair and
square at National Pro Wrestling Day to win the title. I want to do
the same to win it back. I've waited most of the season to get a
title shot, I can wait a few more days.
R: OK, thank you. Now, HAKAISHA
is going to be a part of the Tag Team Grudge Match main event at AWL
140. Your match this weekend is the last title match scheduled for
this season. Do you think HAKAISHA is looking past you to Crisis
Gundan and does that factor in to your stratagy this weekend?
G: I don't know. You'll have to
ask HAKAISHA. But I'm 100% focused on this match so I expect that he
will be as well. If not, that's his mistake. I always do my best
and this weekend will be no exception.
I also caught up with the
champion and asked him much the same questions:
Ryusensei: HAKAISHA, this weekend
you defend your AWL World's Heavyweight Championship against Ganba.
But in just two and a half weeks you and DOOMBUNNY face Crisis Gundan
and the losing team must disband. With all that on your plate, are
you going to be 100% focused on Ganba at AWL 138?
HAKAISHA: I have to be. Ganba is
one of the best wrestlers in Japan, probably one of the best in the
world. If I come at him with less than my best he's going to go home
with the title. And I owe Ganba my thanks. He could have gone home
with the title last week but he chose to do things the Right Way and
I thank him for that. Make no mistake. This Sunday I will wrestle
Ganba, I will do it the Right Way, and I will still be AWL World's
Heavyweight Champion.
But come AWL 140, I will FIGHT
Crisis Gundan and I WILL put the last of my past behind me. Yarina
is gone. Yarina Talent Management Inc. is gone. Jack, Giant, soon
you will be gone too!
That was supposed to be the end
of the blog post for today, but nope. Just a few minutes ago we
received a message from El Rudo Rojo and the AWL Commissioner has
ordered it posted. You have been warned and you know who to
blame...not me!
That pu**y commissioner is a
cowardly dog and I don't care who knows it! I beat a ligit giant to
become AWL World Light Heavyweight Champion (saving myself from
Batsumania in the process) and not only do I not get the massive
celebration I deserve, I haven't even been booked on the show in
weeks! BULLS**T!! I demand a match at AWL 140. I'm a champion
dammit, I should get the big money on the big shows!!
What a jackass! I'll be back
tomorrow with By the Numbers.

Commissioner's Weekly Address.
Without further ado, here's the
boss:
Good evening ladies and
gentlemen, I am the AWL...Commissioner. And I am rather angry this
week. While I feel it is in the best interest of the Animated
Wrestling League to cultivate an attitude of healthy competition among out wrestlers, things have gotten out of hand. I speak of
course of the rivalry between Crisis Gundan and the former Golden Duo
of HAKAISHA and DOOMBUNNY. Thanks to them, I was unable to present
an advertised World Championship Match at AWL 137. This is
UNACCEPTABLE!
Therefore I hereby COMMISSION
a match between these teams at AWL 140. The rivalry will end there
and then because this match will be contested under Grudge Match
Rules, it will be an Elimination Match, and the losing team MAY NEVER
TEAM IN THE ANIMATED WRESTLING LEAGUE AGAIN!
AWL 140: MAIN EVENT!
Crisis Gundan vs. HAKAISHA &
DOOMBUNNY
Elimination Grudge Match
Losing Team Must Disband!!
With that out of the way, here
is the fight card for this weekend's AWL 138 event:
AWL 138:
Main Event:
HAKAISHA! (C) vs. Ganba (#1)
AWL World Heavyweight

This is getting old.
I am getting really sick of
starting off so many of these blog posts with "Here's my attempt
to make sense of the chaos last weekend."
OK, last weekend at AWL 137 we
were unable to present the advertised main event because the World Champion HAKAISHA was attacked backstage by Crisis Gundan and was
unable to fight. Under AWL Rules, this would normally result in a
forfit and HAKAISHA would lose the title. Lucky for him, as soon as
the security camera footage of the attack became published, Ganba
(The #1 Contender) refused the match himself. Therefore the match is
offically a Double Forfeit and a No Contest. HAKAISHA is still
champion and Ganba is still #1 Contender.
This weekend that match WILL take
place. By order of the AWL Commissioner, anyone who interferes in
that match before or during the contest will be fired. No excuses.
AWL 138 Main Event
HAKAISHA (C) vs. Ganba (#1)
AWL World Heavyweight
Championship Match
5th Title Defense
As for Crisis Gundan. The AWL
Commissioner has promised a special announcement regarding them
tomorrow in his Weekly Address so stay tuned for that.
Lastly,
I have some news regarding Batsumania. As
of AWL 137, two wrestlers are mathematically locked in the Danger
Zone. Meaning that there is not enough time between now and the
season finale for them to win their way out of the zone. These two
men WILL compete in Batsumania:
American Beetle
Jon Shina
Of interesting note, Jon Shina
MUST win his first ever match in the AWL if he is to survive into
Season 8. Things are looking good for American Beetle in that case.
Also, the loss in the impromptu tag team match last weekend has
pushed Tiger Mask II back down into the zone. He will have the
chance to fight his way out this weekend at AWL 138.

AWL 137: HAKAISHA! vs. Ganba 投稿者 AWLBoss
OK, the video quality isn't very good. I had to convert to an AVI file because for some reason Sony Vegas wasn't letting me use my usual MOV format. I should have this fixed by next week but until then, please enjoy the show as best you can.

Arrrrrgh!!
There is now a dent in my wall suspiciously the same size and shape of my forehead. I've now tried to render this week's AWL episode 5 times and every time (at the END of the multi-hour process) I get an error message and no file. There're a couple more things I can try, but I don't think this thing is going to be posted tonight.
I'm sorry. I'll get it up as soon as I can.
I'm sorry. I'll get it up as soon as I can.
Friday, May 22, 2015
Lots of talking before lots of fighting.
We're starting off tonight with
some brief comments from the 4 men who will compete to enter the AWL
Best 4 this weekend at AWL 137:
“Big" Ben Nelson:
Fantastic! Nobody in this
company knows bettern than me that oportunities like this don't come
around every day. I'm not wasting it!
Ma-Ji-Ku:
He sostenido cada campeonato en estacompañía excepto el World HeavyweightChampionship. Mi carrera no durará para
siempre. No voy a dejar
que esta oportunidadme pasan. Yo soy el guerrero de la luz. SoyLucha Libre.
(I've held every
championship in this company except the World Heavyweight
Championship. My career won't last forever. I'm not letting this
chance pass me by. I am the Warrior of Light. I am Lucha Libre.)
Jack Butcher:
Aw yeah! This weekend, my old
mate Wondy and I are going to walk all over those little guys right
into the Best 4.
Wonder Kid:
Tag Team? I ask for a challenge
and you put me in a freaking tag team match? I do not now and have
never needed a tag team partner. Yeah, I could do a whole lot worse
than Jack, but this still ain't what I had in mind.
And now some comments from the
champion and challenger in this week's AWL World Heavyweight
Championship Match:
Ganba:
(I'm
proud of you. You said you wanted to do things the right way. You
did it. Congratulations. But this weekend you will have to prove
yourself all over again. I am coming for that championship. My
championship. From start to finish, I always do my best.)
HAKAISHA!:
(First, I'm sorry. I'm sorry Kid
Canada. I was in the wrong place last week. I nearly killed you.
It's unforgivable. It wasn't the right way.
This Sunday I will fight the best
in Japan. I must prove myself. 先輩 is
correct. 俺も頑張ります。 I
will destroy my shame. I will destroy you.)

DDS Promos
It's interview time! First up is
the newest member of the AWL Roster, George Fraiser. Mr. Fraiser
competed in the Dragon Debut Series where he was defeated by Dragon
following his Tail of the Dragon Armdrag after Dragon caught Mr.
Fraiser while he was posing for the fans. I caught up to Mr. Fraiser
and asked him about his AWL debut match:
TOTAL NONSENSE! I won that
match!! Dragon was knocked completely out of the ring. Even if that
isn't considered a win, I clearly won the round on points. I need to
have a serious conversation with the judges around here. Where are
they anyway?
You need to have a long
conversation with somebody buddy. Preferably the trainers back at
the AWL Dojo.
Speaking of the Dragon Debut
Series, we have something unusual this week. We're actually going to
find out the name of the debuting wrestler before the match starts.
For more I turn it over to Sammy Nix of the New Classics:
“The New Classics" huh?
That name has never been more appropriate. This day has been a long
time coming. This weekend the Dragon Debut Series will
feature.....Matt Classic Jr.!
Yeah, Matt's son is getting into
wrestling. As a favor to Matt, Lee and I have been training him at
the Dojo for about 6 months now. The kid's a natural and we think
he's ready to play with the big boys. This Dragon Debut Series thing
is a perfect chance.
And yes folks, that's official:
Dragon vs. Matt Classic Jr.
Dragon Debut Series Match
Tune in this weekend for all the
action!

This week's address.
Two points today: First, no news from WWE on the IC Title situation. Second, the boss has delivered his weekly address for you reading pleasure.
Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen. I am the AWL Commissioner.
First of all, let me tell you how proud I am of Hassan for fighting through a still injured ankle and becoming the first AWL Wrestler to win a WWE championship.
Now the show must go on and I have COMMISSIONED!!! The following matches for AWL 137:
Main Event:
HAKAISHA! (C) vs. Ganba
AWL World Heavyweight Championship Match
5th Title Defense
After coming so close to injuring Kid Canada last week, HAKAISHA has asked for another title match this week so that he may "prove himself" in the eyes of the AWL Fans. While I feel he has nought to prove to anybody, I would be lax in my duties if I refused to allow a healthy wrestler to wrestle. So the match is on.
Jack Butcher & Wonder Kid vs. Ma-Ji-Ku and "Big" Ben Nelson
Fight for 3 and 4.
There are currently 2 open slots in the AWL Best 4 and by the end of AWL 137 there shall be a third. This is unacceptable! Therefore we will use a unique method of determining contenders. This tag team match consists of the 4 of top ranked AWL Wrestlers in terms of win-loss records. The winners of this match enter the Best 4 and will fight each other later in the same evening to determine who gets the #3 position.
Finally, there will be another match between two AWL Wrestlers in the Danger Zone and the Dragon Debut Series shall continue.
THIS! I have COMMISSIONED!!!!!!!!!!!

What the hell just happened?
I know exactly what you want to
read about today. What the hell happened at the end of AWL 136?
Well, I'm going to bury the lead on that and first cover the
condition of Kid Canada.
During the scheduled main event
of AWL 136, HAKAISHA delivered his signature triple power bomb to Kid
Canada. During this manuver, Kid Canada's head bounced off the
middle rope in a dangerous way. Concerns were immediatly raised
regarding the health of the Most Candian Man in the World.
Well, I have good news. AWL CMO
Dr. Mark Feelgood has checked KC out and found neither concussion nor
neck damage. He's fine and has been cleared for competition.
But now for the real reason
you're probably all here: No. You didn't imagine it. Yes. It
really happened. Yes. The AWL's own Hassan is now the WWE
Intercontinental Champion!! "But how is that possible?" I
hear you ask. Well, it's actually fairly simple:
1. Daniel Bryan loses the IC
Title to Vacant on the 5-11-2015 episode of WWE Monday Night RAW.
2. Vacant is currently under an
AWL Contract and therefore can defend the title on AWL shows.
3. The AWL Commissioner contacts
Hassan (who is further ahead on his rehab than previously reported
and just last week got his visa renewed) to give him the opportunity
to fight for the gold.
4. Hassan accepts and the match
is on.
5. Hassan wins, the title changes
hands.
That brings us up to the present.
Vacant WAS scheduled to defend the IC Title in an Elimination
Chamber Match in two weeks on the WWE Network (available now for an
undisclosed amount of money). It remains to be seen how WWE will
address the issue of the new champion. Since the IC Title was
treated as still belonging to Vacant on the most recent episode of
RAW, we assume they are trying to ignore us. Even going so far as to
pass off a duplicate belt for the real one. As of this writing, the
Animated Wrestling League recognizes Hassan as the WWE
Intercontinental Champion. Please stay tuned for more updates as
this on going story unfolds.

Last week Curry Man won a match
to save himself and Tiger Mask II lost a match to send him tumbling
into the zone. This weekend, Tiger Mask will try to save himself as
he faces American Beetle one on one. However, if the All American
Insect loses, he will be mathematically LOCKED in the Danger Zone and
will have no choice but to compete in Batsumania. So it's all to
play for tomorrow at AWL 136!
One last thing before I wrap up
the blog posts for the week, I wanted to give you the official list
of injured AWL Wrestlers. This is all according to our medical staff
and has been approved for release by AWL Senior Physician Dr. Mark
Feelgood as of May 16th, 2015.
Name: Estimated time to
recovery:
Ganba. Cleared to compete.
Prince Puma. 1 week
(Observation).
Yamada Jiro. 6 to 8 weeks.
Hassan. 4 to 6 weeks.
For those of you keeping score at
home, Ganba and Prince Puma were injured by Bullet Club, Jiro was
taken out by The Augments, and Hassan was injured in training at the
AWL Dojo. We wish them all a speedy recovery.

Tag Team Promos
Normally we have comments from
both champion and challenger in a world title match, but this time
we've decided to do something a little different. I'm going to be
doing live interviews with both men during this weekend's show. So
please look forward to that. Today we have some comments from the
two teams that will be involved in this weekend's tag team grudge
match.
First, Bullet Club:
HA! Another fool gets in our
way, another fool goes down. Welcome to the injured list pussy cat.
That's what happens to anyone stupid enough to cross Bullet Club.
So this week we get Luke James
and what'shisname? Gamma? Grandma? Grammar? Whatever. It doesn't
matter. We beat them before and we'll beat them again. And guess
what, we don7t give a crap about this Grudge Match thing. No DQ? No
Count Outs? Perfect! That's right up our alley. So come to the AWL
Arena this weekend if you want to see what western tactics are all
about!!
Too Sweeeeeeeet!!
Jerks. Anyway, we also have some
words from the AWL All Stars, specifically from Luke James:
Listen up Bullet Club. Ya'll
have been running wild around the AWL for nearly a year now.
Cheating to win matches, attacking people from behind, and hurting
people. 2 on 1, 3 on 1, it's never a fair fight with you cowards.
Well guess what, and I speak for pretty much the entire roster here,
we're sick of it. So bring all the cheating tactics you like (and
we'll could talk about that whole "Western" thing too) this
Sunday because it's not gonna do you any good. With the Japanese
Megastar by my side, the Peacemaker is going to war!

Grudge Match Rules
Just a quick explanatory note
today. You may have noticed that the AWL 136 card announced
yesterday includes the words "Grudge Match." Well, the AWL
Commissioner has decided to better define that term. Here now are
the rules to an AWL Grudge Match
1. One fall, submission, or KO to
decide the winner.
2. No DQ.
3. No Count Outs (Falls valid
in-ring only).
4.
All Grudge Matches will be officiated by Freshman Official Daiki
Babaghanoush. Official is
authorized to get physically involved in the match at his discretion.
5.
No points or rank may be
awarded for grudge matches
(Wins and losses are still recorded).
There you have it. The first
match under the new Grudge Match Rules will be this weekend's bout
between the AWL All Stars and Bullet Club.

Commissioner's weekly address
OK people, we have a lot of news
to get to today so allow me to turn things over to the AWL
Commissioner:
Good evening ladies and
gentlemen, I am the AWL...Commissioner. It is my sad duty to report
to you that their has been a necessary change to an announced match
for AWL 136. Our medical staff has declared Prince Puma unfit to
compete. After the severe beating he received at the hands of Bullet
Club last weekend, our chief doctor Dr. Mark Feelgood has chosen
to keep Puma out of action for one week in order to run further
tests.
Prince
Puma is not happy about this, but neither he nor I have the authority
to override the doctor in cases like this. Perhaps I was...hasty in
making the match in the first place. I would like to apologize to
all AWL fans who were looking forward to this match. But the show
must go on. Not wanting to force the AWL All Stars into a handicap
match, I contacted Bullet Club and instructed them to choose one
wrestler to sit out this match. Unsurprisingly, A.J. Styles quickly
offered to take the night off. As such, the match now looks like
this:
AWL All Stars (Ganba/James)
vs. Bullet Club (Anderson/Fale)
Grudge Match
As
an additional apology to our fans, I have COMMISSIONED! An AWL
World Heavyweight Championship Match for
AWL 136. The #1 Contender in the AWL Best 4, Kid Canada, will
challenge HAKAISHA for the AWL World's Heavyweight Championship. The
full card for AWL 136 is as follows:
Main Event:
HAKAISHA! (C) vs. Kid Canada

I screwed up.
First
of all, I have to apologize. Last weekend I made an announcement at
the end of AWL 135 that was incorrect. I announced a trios match
between Bullet Club and the team of Dragon, Luke James, and Prince
Puma. Well, I was wrong. Their WILL be a trios match at AWL 136,
but Dragon will not be a part of it. Dragon will be in the second
match in the all new Dragon Debut Series. In his place will be the
third member of the AWL All Stars: Ganba.
AWL 136:

Speaking of the DDS, we tried to
get in contact with Captain AWL (or whomever is now using that
identity) to get some comments on his debut match but he refused
comment. In fact, he refused to say anything. It's all but unheard
of that any AWL Wrestler refuses the spotlight, but his call I guess.
I'll be back tomorrow with the
Commissioner's Weekly Address and hopefully we'll get the full card
for AWL 136.

A message from Dragon.
Yesterday
I reported that the Dragon Debut Series will be returning to the AWL
this weekend, but why? Well, after I raised that question yesterday,
Dragon sent in a message to explain that.
Why
am I bringing the Dragon Debut Series back to the AWL? That's a fair
question. Luke and I have defended our tag team titles twice in the
last two weeks, but with no team having more than one point, we're
not going to be wrestling for a while. Then last week I paid a visit
to the AWL Dojo to give a seminar and I was blown away by some of
these kids and I want to give them a chance to make an impact on the
AWL roster. So why not kill two birds with one stone?
Preview of AWL 135.
Funny
thing about Golden Week. The second you get the show posted, the
entire staff and roster rush out of AWL HQ like frightened rabbits.
I suppose I can't blame them for it, but I CAN blame them for us not
having any bolg posts this week until now. The good news is that I
can report that the AWL Commissioner himself has sent me the card for
this weekend's AWL 135 event. And the show will be headlined by a
HUGE Champion vs. Champion Match:
Prince Puma vs. A.J. Styles
Champion vs. Champion
Non-Title Match
After both Styles and Puma successfully retained their titles last week at Golden War 2015, the Commissioner decided that this would be a fun match to have, so we're
having it.
What? Not every match has to
have deep story line implications ya know. Sometimes it's just cool
to see two great wrestlers go at it in the squared circle.
El Rudo Rojo vs. Tiger Mask II
Non-Title Match
I honestly can't believe I'm
saying this, but thank goodness for El Rudo Rojo. Last week he took
the AWL World Light Heavyweight Title away from Super Giant. This
week, El Rudo Rojo has demanded a non-title match against the light
heavyweight who recently challenged for the world title. Tiger Mask
II! Even though the title is not on the line, a victory by the Heir
to the Tiger Style would certainly catapult him to the top of the
division.
The Augments (1) vs. Bullet
Club (0)
Two weeks ago, Dr. Jigoku ordered
the punishment of Yamada Jiro. Obviously, the team of Jiro and Tetsu
has been dissolved. Yamada Jiro is going to be out for the rest of
the season. Nobody misses him.
Meanwhile, the search for new tag
team #1 contender's begins. The mad scientist of professional
wrestling will be once again fielding his main team of Darkness Ryu
and Project Tetsu, the "improved" versions of Dragon and
Ganba respectfully.
Curry Man vs. Joe Obber
Danger Zone Match
Not much to explain about this
one. Both of these men are in the bottom four of the AWL Win-Loss
Rankings, which we call the Danger Zone. Every victory is a step
toward escaping the Zone and avoiding Batsumania for another season.
Dragon vs. ????
Dragon Debut Series Match
This
is interesting. We recently received a message from Dragon asking to
reinstate the Dragon Debut Series. The DDS is a series of matches
where debuting rookies get to have their first match with the
original AWL Champion in order to give them a goal to aspire to. We
haven't seen the DDS since Season 0 and I don't know why Dragon wants
to restart the series now, but we have a handful of students in the
AWL Dojo who the Commissioner thinks are ready to graduate to the
main roster. So the Dragon Debut Series will begin again this Sunday
at AWL 135.
