BIG News!!
Good
evening Ladies and gentlemen, I am the AWL Commissioner. Last
weekend at AWL 82, the wrestler known as THUGLIFE Tanaka Kenichi
attacked his opponent before the beginning of their scheduled match.
The referee immediately declared the match a no-contest. This attack
was unprovoked and wholly unacceptable. Mr. Tanaka has been
suspended for 30 days without pay. Also, while even I do not have
the authority to overturn a referee's decision, Ganba has been payed
as if he had won the match.
Moving
on to other matters, I have been asked many times over the past few
days about Yarina's plan to make Wonder Kid the AWL World's
Heavyweight Champion again. While here stated scheme is less than
honorable, there is nothing illegal about it. However, I fear her
plan will not be as simple as she thinks. To prove it, HAKAISHA will
challenge Ultramantis Black for the title NEXT WEEK!
The
final piece of news that we all (including myself) learned at AWL 82
was that Matt Classic plans to retire from the Animated Wrestling
League at the end of this season. I'm sure everyone in the company
will join me in saying that we are going to miss Matt and we wish him
well in the future. However, as a professional wrestling promoter, I
would be remiss if I didn't try to milk one final main event from
this legend before I let him ride off into the sunset. Therefore, as
a final thank you to Matt Classic and in recognition of his years of
service, I am offering him a last opportunity at glory.
At
AWL 100, in his FINAL MATCH, Matt Classic shall challenge for the AWL
World Heavyweight Championship against whomever holds the title at
the time.
Lastly,
I have a very special announcement for you. Earlier this week, our
own Ryusensei interviewed none other than . . . CM Punk! This is
Punk's first interview since leaving WWE and joining the AWL.
*****
Ladies
and gentlemen of the internet. It is my pleasure to present to you
an exclusive interview I conducted just last night with former WWE
Superstar and current AWL Wrestler CM Punk. Before I start, I want
to explain the rules that Punk set down before he agreed to be
interviewed. First, I was not allowed to ask about his departure
from WWE. Second, I was not to ask about his personal or love lives.
Lastly, I had to buy him a Japanese Salty Watermelon Pepsi (he
didn't believe me when I told him it's not horrible). But he did
agree to be candid about his reasons for coming to the AWL and his
goals with this organization. Here now, that interview:
Ryusensei:
CM Punk, thanks for agreeing to this interview. Let's jump right
into it. Why did you come to the AWL.
CM
Punk: For years I've been
working for a wrestling organization that was embarrassed to be a
wrestling organization. Pro wrestling is what I love and WWE drained
that love out of me. After I left, I spoke to Colt Cabana, you know
just shooting the shit, and he put me in contact with Matt Classic.
Matt's a friend of Colt's and wouldn't
shut up about this AWL thing he was doing in Japan. Eventually, I
got curious and called the AWL offices and they put me in right
through to the AWL Commissioner. The rest is history.
Ryusensei:
And how did that meeting go?
CM
Punk: Great. He was very
respectful of me and my work, the first thing he wanted to know was
what I wanted to do. He didn't come at me with ideas or demands, he
just asked what I wanted to do
and we went from there.
Ryusensei:
What is your current contract status with the AWL?
CM
Punk: Hand shake deal.
Ryusensei:
What are your goals in the AWL?
CM
Punk: Smiles
As you probably figured out at National Pro Wrestling Day, I'm coming
for the AWL World Light Heavyweight Championship. The AWL is the
first company I've ever seen that promotes all of it's titles
equally. The World Light Heavyweight Title has main evented shows
and the champion is considered one of the "faces" of the
company. I
want to be part of a company that values wrestlers for their athletic skill, not their injection schedule. For their wrestling
not their cycling. So Shin Tora, get ready, because soon you're
going to take a little nap, courtesy of The Best in the World. But
I don't
want to be HANDED a title shot. I've earned everything I've gotten
in my career and I want to earn this too. Now
if you'll excuse me, I'm heading back to my bus for an ice pack and a
pepsi.
Ryusensei:
OK, thank you very much for your time sir.

This weekend's card.
OK people, we have a little under twelve hours left until AWL 82 so it is my duty and pleasure to announce to you the matches for this weekend.
MAIN EVENT:
CM Punk vs. Dragon
By AWL tradition, the first regular season match for any debuting wrestler is against the first ever AWL Champion. Much like other young Japanese professional athletes and game players, the first match is against the top of their sport. They aren't expected to win, but it gives them an idea of what they can strive for. In the AWL, we call this The Dragon Debut Series (or we did anyway). But this is no ordinary debuting wrestler, this is CM Punk: The Best in the World and (With all due respect to Nigel McGuinness, MVP, and Fit Finley) the biggest star ever to darken the doorstep of the AWL. So I have no clue who's going to win this.
Semi Final:
The Technicos (1) vs. The Super Tiger Bros. (0)
We had an e-mail from Robbie Ellis, the new owner and operator of Chikara. He said (among other things) that he has no problem with the AWL continuing to use the Chikara 3-Point System in our own tag team division. So we are diving back into the tag team division now with two sets of former AWL World Tag Team Champions. Also, the Technicos are the only team to have survived Season 4 with any points intact. They face the Japanese Legend and the reigning AWL World Light Heavyweight Champion.
Ganba vs. THUGLIFE Tanaka Kenichi
At National Pro Wrestling Day, Tanaka Kenichi preformed a disgusting act of bad sportsmanship after losing to Ganba. I'm not going to go into detail here. If you want to see it, go watch the video. Long story short, this is the rematch to settle the score.
The All Americans (0) vs. The Masters of the Mask (0)
Once again, former tag team champions and points are on the line. One of the best things about the AWL is the great variety of styles among the AWL Wrestlers. And this match is a great example of that. American pro wrestling vs. Mexican lucha libre. And of course, both teams want to take that first step back to the gold.
Matt Classic vs. Wolf
This is the bronze metal match for the 2014 お正月大会. Not much else needs to be said really.
See you all soon for AWL 82!

Nuts and bolts
Hello
internet! With AWL Season 5 now officially underway it's time to
clear up a few loose ends before we jump back into business as usual.
First and foremost, the title situation. By order of AWL World
Heavyweight Champion Ultramantis Black, the 10-Minute Challenge has
been abolished. The #1 ranked wrestler will now automatically
receive the next title shot. Speaking of which, the AWL Best 4
Rankings currently look like this:
1.
HAKAISHA (Beat UMB in the New Year's Tournament)
2.
Ganba (Held this slot before the Elimination Chamber at AWL 80)
3.
Ben Nelson (Ditto)
4.
Wonder Kid (Winner of the 2014 New Year's Tournament)
Obviously,
the most interesting thing here is that 2 of the 4 top ranked
wrestlers are represented by Yarina Talent Management Inc. I'm
certain we'll here more about that in the days to come.
In
other news, with the events of National Pro Wrestling Day 2014 in the
history books, CHIKARA is BACK!
At least it will be this May. Accordingly, all of the Chikara
Refugees have returned to the United States to prepare for this
historic and glorious day. The only exception is Ultramantis Black,
who will do double duty in the AWL and Chikara while he is AWL World
Heavyweight Champion. Additionally,
as Titor Conglomerate no longer owns Chikara, the AWL Commissioner's
deal with them is OFF. However, we will continue to use the 3-Point
System in the tag team division unless and until we get a cease and
desist order from the current owners of Chikara. With that in mind,
the current tag team rankings are as follows:
AWL World Tag Team Champions: Big
& Spicy.
The Technicos—1pt.
All other teams—0pts.
In other words, expect at least
one tag team match per show until we get some more competition in
this division.
At the moment, there is no named
contender for Shin Tora's AWL World Light Heavyweight Championship.
That's
all the nuts and bolts I have at the moment. But
stay tuned the rest of the week for more news from the Animated
Wrestling League.

First round matches for tomorrow's show!
OK
boys and girls. Time for the news you've all been waiting for: The
first round match-ups for the AWL 2014 お正月大会/New
Year's Tournament. With the recent revelation that CM Punk will be
in the tournament, we can now reveal the full line up in order:
1.
Ultramantis Black—AWL World Heavyweight Champion (UMB loses at any
point in the tournament, the man who beats him becomes #1 Contender).
2.
HAKAISHA
3.
American Beetle
4.
Wolf
5.
Ma-Ji-Ku
6.
Jack Butcher
7.
Tiny—AWL World Tag Team Champion
8.
El Rudo Rojo
9.
Dragon
10.
Ganba
11.
Wonder Kid
12.
THUGLIFE 田中健一
13.
Matt Classic
14.
Tiger Mask
15.
El Santo Azul
16.
CM Punk
With
the exceptions of Ultramantis Black at #1 and CM Punk at #16, all
matches were decided by random lottery. From the look of it, the
Wrestling Gods have smiled upon us and granted us some interesting
first round matches. Dragon vs. Ganba is a dream match between two
AWL All Stars and Matt Classic vs. Tiger Mask will be a great opportunity to see two veterans ply their craft in the AWL ring.
We are less than 12 hours from the return of the AWL regular season and the first time that two videos will be posted on two consecutive days. The first round matches listed here will be posted first, with the rest of the tournament to be posted less than 24 hours later.
Until then, have fun, stay warm, and enjoy wrestling.

News Post
CM
Punk is in the AWL!
I'll
say that again incase you didn't read it the first time:
C
. . . M . . . Punk is in the AWL!!
Yes,
at the end of the AWL component of National Pro Wrestling Day the
former WWE Champion made a surprise appearance on the stage at the
Easton Funplex. He then pointed at Shin Tora, who had just successfully defended his title against American Beetle, and made the
universal "I want belt" gesture across his stomach.
While
we've heard nothing from CM Punk in the days since, the AWL
Commissioner has been VERY forthcoming on what's going on. While Mr.
Punk's intentions and motivations for coming to the AWL remain
unclear, it turns out that CM Punk has signed a short term, per appearance deal with the Animated Wrestling League! Nothing long
term yet, but the AWL Commissioner has authorized me to tell you that
CM Punk will be the traditional 16th man in the 2014 お正月大会!!
So
at AWL 81, you will get to see CM Punk in action in an AWL ring for
the very first time!
In
tomorrow's news post, the full list of participants and 1st round
matches will be announced. Stay tuned!

AWL Season 5 Episode 0: National Pro Wrestling Day 2014!
NPWD 2014 投稿者 AWLBoss
GO WATCH THE REAL LIFE NATIONAL PRO WRESTLING DAY! NOW!!
This video is not very good, if it works at all. LOTS of technical difficulties. New game, new game system, new screen capture program, and I'm still working out the bugs. Everything will be ironed out for the New Year's Tournament next week.
Saturday, February 1, 2014
Only hours to go!
Well, a massive screw up on
behalf of the AWL scheduling department (namely, me) has resulted in
us bumping our coverage of the AWL at National Pro Wrestling Day.
The video is currently scheduled to be posted early in the morning on
Sunday February 2nd, JST (Please adjust for your own time zone).
Remember, the AWL portion of the card is:
AWL World Light
Heavyweight Championship Match:
Shin Tora (新虎)
(C) vs. American Beetle
The new tiger makes the first
defense of his title reign and the first ever defense of the title
outside of Japan. After this match, the belt will be rechristened
the AWL World Light Heavyweight Championship. American Beetle was
hand chosen by the AWL Commissioner to become #1 Contender. While
the boss's exact reasons are unknown, theories rushing around the
locker room range from "A courtesy to a veteran who has been with the company since the first episode of Season Zero." to
"American Beetle lives in the US anyway and the Commissioner
just wanted to save on airfare by booking a local." Either way,
this is an historic match that will usher in a new era for one of the
AWL's biggest points of pride: The Light Heavyweight Division.
Ganba (ガンバ)
vs. THUGLIFE 田中健一
We are happy to announce that
Ganba has been medically cleared to wrestle following a scare during
the Elimination Chamber Match at AWL 80. (Yes, Ganba was Captian
AWL. It was a trick to get around the rule imposed by Ultramantis
Black that only masked wrestlers could enter the chamber. The 2 wins
and 1 loss attributed to Captain AWL have been added to Ganba's
win-loss record). This will be a match between two countrymen who
couldn't be any more different from one another. Ganba is the
paragon of the hard working Japanese athlete. Tanaka Kenichi, on the
other hand . . . isn't. In fact he more resembles a wannabe
gangster. The exact opposite of Japanese respectability. The AWL
Commissioner has said more than once that he sees great potential in
Tanaka and his coaches at the Wrestle Factory have said much the same
thing. Hopefully, putting him in the ring with The Japanese Megastar
will show him a positive example and help him turn his life around.
HAKAISHA vs. Matt Classic
This is all Yarina's doing.
After HAKAISHA was pinned at AWL 80, costing Crisis Gundan both their
undefeated streak and the AWL World Tag Team Championships, Yarina
reportedly through a fit and was seconds away from firing HAKAISHA
when he somehow convinced her to give him another chance. This match
is the result. For reasons I personally don't understand, Yarina
wants HAKAISHA to prove himself and the AWL Commissioner suggested
(or more likely assigned) Matt Classic to do the honors. Appropriately enough at National Pro Wrestling Day, we are going to
see the oldest of the old school rasslers face the epitome of modern
day WWE style body-building big man main eventers: The Japanese
Destroyer, HAKAISHA!
All that and more in less than 24
hours at National Pro Wrestling Day 2014!
If you'd like to check out the
real live version of National Pro Wrestling Day, it will be streaming
LIVE via YouTube from Easton, PA on www.nationaprowrestlingday.com
The next news post will be after
National Pro Wrestling Day and we will shift our focus fully to the
2014 New Year's Tournament.
