News
update from around the wrestling world:
First,
last Monday at King of Pro Wrestling in Ryogoku, the Rain Maker
Kazuchika Okada retained the IWGP Heavyweight Championship against
A.J. Styles in a 30 plus minute classic of a wrestling match. I
highly recommend you all go out of your way to see it. Okada is
currently scheduled to challenge the AWL World's Heavyweight Champion
(whomever that may be) at AWL 159. Could the Rain Maker walk into
AWL 160 and become the first AWL Grand Champion? Not if Dragon has
anything to say about it.
Also
at King of Pro Wrestling, "The Cleaner" Kenny Omega
retained the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Championship against Matt Sydal.
While by no means a "clean" victory, I have been informed
that Omega intends to bring his IWGP Jr. Heavyweight belt to all
future AWL booking. And he will get the chance THIS WEEKEND as he
faces Chiba Akagi in a non-title match.
Speaking
of this weekend and AWL 154, the AWL World Light Heavyweight
Championship will of course be defended. The interesting part is
that, despite Grudge Matches not officially being counted on the win-loss records, the AWL Commissioner has decided that Captain AWL's
decisive victory over El Rudo Rojo in the Grudge Match last week has
qualified the mysterious captain for a title match.
Finally
tonight, Cody Hall and Kenny Omega have been fined the equivilent of
4 months pay for failing to appear at Tag Matsuri 2015. They have
been stripped of their 3 points. And they are barred from tag team
competition for the remainder of the season. They may tag with other
members of Bullet Club, but NOT with each other. Frankly, the
importance of the relationship between the AWL and New Japan Pro
Wrestling is the ONLY reason they haven't been out and out suspended.
Stay
tuned later today for the AWL Commissioner's weekly address.
