Pick your poison

I said we’d be back and I was right.  There is more news to report regarding AWL 59 this weekend.

With AWL 59 being the “go home” show for the Season 3 finale, the AWL Commissioner has decided that both champion and challenger in the AWL 60 main event will have a warm up match this weekend.  To make things more interesting, the Commissioner has decided to let each man choose the OTHER’S opponent for the night!

So far, the card for AWL 59 looks like this:

Main Event: TBA.

1. Luke James vs. Lee Masters vs. Maglubiyet Jr. vs. Curry Man
4-Corners Match.  Loser enters Batsumania.

2. Ganba vs. ???? (Chosen by Wonder Kid)

3. Wonder Kid vs. ???? (Chosen by Ganba)

4. ???? vs. ???? (Those who neither won nor lost match #1).
Loser goes to Batsumania.

With the main event still to be announced, stay tuned to this site for more information between now and this Sunday morning (Japan time) when we bring you AWL 59.

What the heck is going on with Batsumania?

OK ladies and gentlemen, let’s get down to business.  AWL statisticians have been reexamining every iota of data regarding win loss records now that Tiger Mask and Shin Tora (as Tag Team #1 contenders) are ineligible for Batsumania.  We still need the bottom four wrestlers to compete in the 4-courners survival match at AWL 60 (It’s on the freaking posters for goodness sake!) and the new data is . . . inconclusive.

1. American Beetle W/L Ratio: -6
2. Silver Potato W/L Ratio: -4
3. ?
4. ?

See those question marks next to 3 and 4?  Therein lies the problem.  American Beetle and Silver Potato are definitely in the match, but right below them with a win loss ratio of -3 are FOUR different wrestlers.  Some of whom thought they had previously saved themselves.  In no particular order, they are:

Curry Man
“Penultimate Fighter” Lee Masters
Maglubiyet Jr.
“Peacemaker” Luke James

With only one episode left until the Season 3 Finale and 2 spots to fill, desperate times call for desperate measures.  Fortunately, desperate measures happen to be one of the AWL Commissioner’s specialties.

At AWL 59, there will be two matches featuring these four men.  First, a one fall 4-Corners Match.  The winner will be safe from Batsumania and the loser will be forced to fight for his career at AWL 60.  Later that same night, the two men who neither won nor lost will fight again.  Again, the winner is safe, the loser is in danger.

The full card for this weekend is being decided as we speak.  We will be back throughout the rest of the week with more news and updates on the AWL.

News post plus the new Batsumania Danger Zone rankings.

Greetings AWL Faithful, this is RyuSensei with all the AWL news you could possibly care about, and some you probably don't.

First, we must update the Batsumania Rankings.  Wins and losses from AWL 57 have been taken into account and here are the new rankings:

1. Tiger Mask: 4-12  Ratio: -8
2. Shin Tora 7-14  Ratio: -7
3. American Beetle 10-15  Ratio: -5
4. Silver Potato 5-10  Ratio: -5

All four of these men will be given a chance at redemption at AWL 58.  Since American Beetle and Silver Potato are tied, they will face each other in a singles match.  The winner will be safe, the loser must fight for their very livelihoods at AWL 60.

As advertized at the end of last week's episode, tag team #1 contenders will be determined at AWL 58.  This connects to the previous story because Tiger Mask and Shin Tora (The Super Tiger Brothers) will face The Technicos in a #1 contender's match.  Why is one of the worst tag teams facing one of the best?  This is just my personal opinion, but I think the AWL Commissioner wants to give The Technicos a free ride to AWL 60.  However, if The Super Tiger Brothers can somehow best the former two time AWL World Tag Team Champions, they will have more than earned salvation.

Now, the heavyweight division.  Yarina raising the per appearance fee for Wonder Kid and Crisis Gundan appears to have angered the AWL Commissioner.  He has as announced that the AWL World Heavyweight Championship WILL be defended at AWL 60.  Furthermore, there will NOT be a 10 Minute Challenge this week or for the rest of the season.

Instead, for the first time EVER, there will be a 6-man STEEL CAGE MATCH at AWL 58.  The winner faces Wonder Kid for the AWL World Heavyweight Championship at the Season 3 Finale.  The participants are:

The AWL Best 4:
1. Wolf
2. Ganba
3. Ben Nelson
4. Hassan (Awarded the #4 slot by order of the AWL Commissioner)

Plus, the winners of two qualifying matches that will kick off AWL 58.

It will be an action filled night of significant consequence.  Be there and enjoy the Animated Wrestling League.

AWL 57: Light Heavyweight Tournament

AWL 57 投稿者 AWLBoss

Sorry about the delay folks, but Dailymotion decided to give me some grief while I was uploading this week's episode.

The build toward AWL 60 continues as we determine who will challenge Ma-Ji-Ku for the AWL Light Heavyweight Championship at the Season 3 Finale.

Thursday, May 16, 2013

Partipants announced for Light Heavyweight Tournament.

The AWL Commissioner's office has announced the full list of wrestlers that will compete for a title shot this weekend at AWL 57:

American Beetle
Tiger Mask
Shin Tora
Curry Man
Maglubiyet Jr.
Bruce Hout

The format for the tournament is simple.  3 one-on-one preliminary matches followed a one fall 3-way match to determine the winner.

With three wrestlers in the Danger Zone, this is a must win tournament.  If American Beetle, Tiger Mask, or Shin Tora win the whole thing, their title shot will automatically save them from Batsumania.  Tune in to AWL 57 to see how this all goes down.

You knew this was coming.

From the offices of Yarina Talent Management Inc.:
It has been a fantastic week for us here at YTM Inc.  Our clients, Crisis Gundan are the NEW AWL World Tag Team Champions and remain the only undefeated tag team in the league.  As a direct result, our company stock prices have seen a significant rise above and beyond standard market activity.  Also, our AWL World Heavyweight Champion, Wonder Kid has pushed away every challenge to his title and AWL all stars like Dragon and Matt Classic can’t even make it past the 10 minute challenge.
Since the Animated Wrestling League has proven unable to provide Wonder Kid with sufficient challenge, YTM Inc. management has decided to increase our per appearance fee by 40%.  Since I’m sure the AWL Commissioner doesn’t want to lose all of his top champions, I’m sure he’ll find our new rates quite reasonable.
Lastly, with next weekend’s AWL episode focusing around a light heavyweight tournament, we have been getting a lot of inquiries from interested sources asking if Yarina Talent Management Inc. has any intention of expanding into that division.

              No.

We have no interest whatsoever in the AWL baby division.  Our business model is more than sufficient to maximize our bottom line.  We don’t need to be wasting human resources capital on acrobats and stuntmen.  We are in the business of representing the best professional wrestlers in the world and that means heavyweights.

Batsumania Update

Another week has passed so let's take a look at the new members of the Batsumania Danger Zone:

1. Tiger Mask. Ratio: -9

2. Shin Tora.  Ratio: -6

3 &4 (3 way tie).  Ratio: -4
          American Beetle
          Luke James
          Silver Potato

Remember: Ratio = wins - losses.  With his win last week, Lee Masters has saved himself for the moment and "Peacemaker" Luke James has crossed the threshold into the Damger Zone.  There are only three more episodes until AWL 60 so time is running out for these men.

Full Card for AWL 56.

Good evening wrestling fans, Ryu Sensei here again with the full card for this week’s AWL broadcast.  With AWL 60 (and Batsumania) right around the corner, tensions are beginning to run high in the AWL locker room.  3 of the 5 men currently in the Danger Zone will have the opportunity to pick up a much needed win this week.  Additionally, there will be a Fight for 4, a 10 Minute Challenge, and an AWL World Tag Team Title Match.  Here is the full card for this weekend:

1. MAIN EVENT: The Masters of the Mask © vs. Crisis Gundan
AWL World Tag Team Championship Match
As announced last week, the AWL Commissioner's deal with the devil comes to it's inevitable conclusion.  With the N.R.E. out of commission for the moment, the team of titans, Crisis Gundan gets their shot at the lords of lucha libre the Masters of the Mask.  What's Spanish for mismatch?

2. Wonder Kid vs. Matt Classic
              10 Minute Challenge
A former two time AWL World Champions takes his turn at the 10 minute challenge.  Matt Classic hails from the era where "Win $100!  Stay X minutes with the champ!!" was a common carny attraction.  If anyone can survive, or even beat Wonder Kid, it's Matt Classic.

3. Hassan vs. Ben Nelson vs. Sammy Nix
              3-Way Fight for 4
With the #4 slot in the Best 4 currently vacant, the AWL Commissioner has made the unusual decision to place three tag team specialists in this one fall 3-way match.  The winner gets his place in line to face the AWL World Champion . . . whomever that may be.

4. Lee Masters vs. Shin Tora

Not much needs to be said here.  With both men in the Danger Zone the simple truth is: Every.  Win.  Counts.  In fact, a win for Lee Masters will save him from Batsumania.

5. Luke James vs. Tiger Mask

Tiger Mask has the furthest to go to escape the Danger Zone, it may not be possible but the longest journey begins with a single step and the peacemaker may be that vital first step.  As for Luke James, he gets the chance to be in the ring with a bona fide legend of Japanese Pro Wrestling.

It’s going to be an action packed episode so be sure to join us at AWL 56.

Current Batsumania Stats

Good evening wrestling fans!  AWL commentator Ryu Sensei here with the first set of Batsumania Danger Zone Rankings.  The following names represent the 4 AWL competitors who have the worst win-loss records in the company.  This failure foursome will have to enter the ring at AWL 60 and one of them will be FIRED!
Here are this week’s rankings, beginning with the worst of the worst:

1. Tiger Mask 2-12 Win-Loss ratio: -10.
2. Shin Tora 7-12 Win-Loss ratio: -5
3 & 4. (Three way tie): Win-Loss ratio: -4
American Beetle 10-14
Lee Masters 10-14
Silver potato 5-9

A few notes.  First, matches from the New Year’s tournament and last summer’s WWE trios tournament are not counted.  Second, all matches before AWL 60 will be factored in so these rankings will need to be updated as time goes on.  Third, only those wrestlers not currently booked in another AWL 60 match are eligible for Batsumania.

Tomorrow: The full card for AWL 56

New match booked for AWL 60.

Greetings wrestling fans!

AWL 60 will be a night of endings.  We already know that Lucha and Libre will meet in the first Mask vs. Mask Match in AWL history.  As anyone who knows anything about Mexican pro wrestling will tell you that such a "wager match" is the end of any feud.

Tonight, I am proud to announce the second match for the Season 3 Finale.  For the first time anywhere, we will have a Batsu-Mania Match!!

What the hell is a Batsu-Mania Match?  Simple, the 4 AWL wrestlers with the worst win-loss records over the last 3 seasons will compete in an elimination match.  Every time a pinfall or submission happens, the winner of the fall is eliminated from the match and safe.  The loser of the 3rd and final fall will be immediately FIRED.

Beginning after this weekend's AWL 55 event, we will be posting the bottom 4 wrestlers currently in the Danger Zone.
