First Round Matches Announced!!!

Here we go, the long awaited round of 16 matches for the AWL お正月大会2016:

A Block:
AJ Styles* vs. Ganba

Bad Luck Fale vs. Karl Anderson

Kenny Omega vs. Jack Butcher

Cody Hall vs. Wolf

B Block:
Dragon vs. Strike Taka

Wonder Kid vs. HAKAISHA!

Sammy Nix vs. Lee Masters

Yamada Jiro vs ????

Well, the AWL Commissioner clearly did not decide this by random chance! All 6 members of Bullet Club are in the A Block meaning that we will have at least one BC vs. BC match and that we CAN'T have an all Bullet Club final. Even more interesting is the fact that the two BC members set to face each other are the reigning AWL World Tag Team Champions Karl Anderson and Bad Luck Fale.

Over in B Block, the man who had to fight his way into the tournament Strike Taka has to face the final AWL World's Heavyweight Champion, Dragon. Two former members of Yarina Talent Management Inc face off as do the longest running tag team in the AWL, the New Classics! Finally, the man who is lucky to even be in the tournament at all, Yamada Jiro, is stuck with the worst possible draw...the one he can't prepare for.

Lastly, I need to point out once again that A.J. Styles is still unconfirmed for the tournament due to the injury that caused him to be pulled from the recent New Japan World Tag League. A.J. is currently scheduled to challenge Shinsuke Nakamura for the IWGP Intercontinental Championship on January 4th at Wrestle Kingdom 10 in Tokyo Dome in Nakamura's 2nd title defense. AWL Chief Medical Official Dr. Marcus Feelgood will personally be on hand at the Dome to check on A.J. and we'll get a final yea or nay at that time. If A.J. can not compete, he will be replaced by the wrestler with the best win-loss record who didn't make the cut for the tournament. At the moment, that's Ma-Ji-Ku.

Happy Holidays!

To all of our fans around the world.  Whatever holiday you may celebrate this winter season, all of us in the AWL wish you and your families a safe and happy holiday.

All of you mean a great deal to me.  I do this show for you as much as for myself.  Yes, the AWL is a vanity promotion for a simple wrestling fan who thinks he can write and book pro wrestling as well as the people who do it for real.  Is it always good?  Probably not.  But sometimes I think the AWL makes for really good wrestling.  And, if I may be forgiven for blowing my own horn, I think the current situation is one of them.

Much as the world is on the cusp of a new year, the AWL is on the verge of a new era.  We haven't had a heel champion in nearly a year.  We've NEVER had a Batsumania loser come back, let alone win the championship.  A new title has been created with rules inspired by other companies ideas, but I still think original overall.

And there WILL be an upgrade to the AWL as we move to WWE2k16 beginning after the New Year's Tournament.

But enough promoting.  However you celebrate the winter solstice, have a wonderful time with those you love and we'll see each other again next year.

AWL Schedule for the Rest of the Winter.

The AWL will be officially on hiatus for the next 2 months or so but we will have 2 Supercard events between now and the official start of Season 9. The current schedule is as follows (All dates reflect Japan time):

Jan. 10th: Supercard--AWL お正月大会2016.

Feb. 7th: Supercard--National Pro Wrestling Day.

Feb. 14th: AWL 161. Official Season 9 Premier.

After AWL 161, we will resume our usual weekly schedule. There is one additional Supercard scheduled for Season 9 and that is the Golden War in May. If we remain on schedule (Hey, it could happen!), then AWL 180, the Season 9 Finale will happen on June 26th, 2016.

In the next post, I hope to have the first round match ups for the お正月大会.

CHANGE IN LINEUP!!

RyuSensei here at AWL HQ and we've just received a message from the AWL Intercontinental Champion, Hassan:

This Intercontinental Title, and I can FINALLY call it the AWL Intercontinental Title, is my path to the AWL Grand Championship and after working for so long to get this belt recognized by the AWL, I don't need to take another path.

Therefore I am respectfully removing myself from the New Year's Tournament. Now, I don't like Yamada Jiro (understatement of the year) and I know this helps him. Thing is, he needs this tournament.....I don't.

That does it ladies and gentlemen, I've now officially seen everything. The AWL Commissioner has confirmed the change and wants me to tell you that the AWL supports the confidence that Hassan has shown with this move and management looks forward to seeing him blazing this new trail in the Animated Wrestling League.

The New Year's Tournament roster now looks like this:

1. Strike Taka (Rookie 6-way Scramble Match Winner)
2. A.J. Styles*
3. Bad Luck Fale
4. Karl Anderson
5. Kenny Omega
6. Cody Hall
7. HAKAISHA!
8. Ganba
9. Dragon
10. Wolf (Special Attraction)
11. Wonder Kid (Return from suspension)
12. Jack Butcher (Return from voluntary hiatus)
13. Hassan Yamada Jiro
14. Lee Masters
15. Sammy Nix
16. ????

Anything else weird going to happen this week?

Fighters announced for the New Year's Tournament!

Negotiations are still underway with Tanaka Kenichi's people regarding the AWL Grand Championship, but time waits for no man and the time of the AWL's biggest event of the year is fast approaching. That's right, the 2016 New Year's Tournament is almost here!

6 of the 16 slots in the tournament were decided at AWL 160 and by tradition the #16 slot is reserved for a debuting wrestler. The remaining 9 slots have been filled by the AWL Wrestlers with the best win-loss records. Included in this list are three wrestlers making their return to the AWL after a long hiatus. The first round of the tournament is scheduled to contain:

1. Strike Taka (Rookie 6-way Scramble Match Winner)
2. A.J. Styles*
3. Bad Luck Fale
4. Karl Anderson
5. Kenny Omega
6. Cody Hall
7. HAKAISHA!
8. Ganba
9. Dragon
10. Wolf (Special Attraction)
11. Wonder Kid (Return from suspension)
12. Jack Butcher (Return from voluntary hiatus)
13. Hassan
14. Lee Masters
15. Sammy Nix
16. ????

Please note the asterisk next to A.J. Styles. Styles is currently dealing with a hip injury and has not been cleared by the AWL Medical Staff. There are several weeks between now and the tournament so a final diagnosis has yet to be made. Should Styles be unable to compete, he would be replaced with the next wrestler on the win-loss rankings: Yamada Jiro.

Rules of the AWL IC Title

This was mentioned on commentary during AWL 160, but I'd better get it down on paper (or keyboard as the case may be).

Rules for the AWL Intercontinental Championship:
1. If the champion successfully defends the title 5 times, they may cash it in for an automatic Grand Championship Title Match.

2. The champion must give at least one week's notice before cashing in the IC Title.

3. A cash in supersedes the AWL Best 4 and any other named contenders.

4. Win or lose, the AWL IC Title is to be declared vacant after a cash in.

5. At the earliest opportunity, a 6-way Scramble Match will be held to determine the new AWL IC Champion.

Hassan is the first and current AWL Intercontinental Champion and will begin defending his title in Season 9 of the Animated Wrestling League.

Who the heck was that guy?

It's been a few days since AWL 160 and things have finally started to calm down around here. The AWL Commissioner has actually been in and out of hospital he's so stressed out. While we still don't know how this is going to shake out, I figured I'd better get all of you up to speed on what just happened.

The man formerly known as Captain AWL was in reality Tanaka Kenichi. Tanaka is a FORMER AWL Wrestler who lost his job thanks to Batsumania at AWL 120. The two men who rushed the ring at the end of AWL 160 are Bruce Hoyt and Maglubiyet Jr. both also former victims of Batsumania. They were NOT authorized to be in the building.

This explains why Captain AWL never showed his face even back in the locker room. Losing Batsumania carries with it a lifetime ban from the Animated Wrestling League. If Tanaka's real name and face had been known, that would have been the end of him.

Now we get down to the real problem. Tanaka Kenichi is currently in possession of the AWL Grand Championship and he won it legitimately.....apart from the whole "Not actually employed by the company" bit. Obviously, the AWL Commissioner IMMEDIATELY wanted to strip Tanaka of the title but unfortunately at some point over the last year Tanaka learned how to call a lawyer.

The AWL Rules clearly state that a referee's decision is final and sacrosanct. Tanaka's lawyers claim that stripping him of the title would invalidate that referee's decision and is therefore illegal. The lawyer further argues that since "Captain AWL" DID have a talent contract with the Animated Wrestling League, he was a legitimate employee at the time of the Title Unification Match.

The Animated Wrestling League, suffice to say, strongly disagrees with this notion. The issue is being deliberated and we hope to avoid going to court. However, for the moment Tanaka Kenichi is the AWL Grand Champion.

ARRGH!!! Why do I make long shows?

OK, once again I have bitten off more than I can chew.  I have spent the last 48 hours trying to render the 2hr 35min video of AWL 160 which I would have then split into two or three videos for publication.

Well, that didn't work.  After the TWELVE FREAKING HOUR rendering process I get an error message and the END.  Then I swear a lot.

I'm still working on a solution but AWL 160 is postponed until further notice.  I'm so sorry.

Less than 24 hours to go!

OK folks, time to be honest. My real life has been crazy the last week or so. First of all, even though we do not celebrate Thanksgiving in Japan, I still had to deal with some unusual scheduling this week/weekend that severely reduced the amount of time I had to work on the show. HOWEVER, I have a loophole! The show will still be broadcast on November 29th, but American time rather than Japan time. (Yeah, copout, I know.) In the meantime, we have some final comments from the champion AND champion in the Title Unification Match tomorrow!

Capt. AWL (Editors note: You have NO idea how hard it was to pin this guy down) (Translated from Japanese):
FINE! You want a statement I'll give you a &%#ing statement! I have taken a long path to this day. I am a champion. I will be Grand Champion. And when I win this match, the truth will be revealed. When I am Grand Champion, you will get ALL the answers you have been looking for. I am the Past and the Future. I AM the AWL!

Dragon:
All season has come down to this match. 8 seasons have come down to this match. My entire career has come down to this match. But it's not about me. It's about the AWL. For the entire history of this company, we've never had one single undisputed champion. Weight divisions make sences in some sports, but not professional wrestling. The freestyle nature of pro wrestling means that on any given night, any wrestler can defeat any other wrestler. Even the biggest man can be taken down with a simple joint lock or submission hold. The strongest man can be knocked out with a well placed punch. The best technical wrestler can be surprised by an aerial move he's never seen before. When two men step into that 20 by 20 foot ring, anything can happen.

Captain." From day one, you have had ZERO respect for anyone in this locker room and even less for the AWL and the fans. You haven't even had the common courtesy to speak to any of us face to face. I've never known a masked wrestler to do that. I've seen the faces of everyone from Matt Classic Sr. to Mr. Smiles. But you're just so special that you can't be bothered with the rest of us. That you're above locker room etiquette. That you're above respect.

You say you'll "reveal the truth" when you win? Well guess what, that's not going to happen. But as a consolation prize, when I beat you, I'm going to rip that mask off of your face and show the whole world what's so damn interesting about who you really are.

More promos!

At AWL 160 we will crown a new champion. But will it be an Intercontinental Champion or a Zenkoku Champion?

Hassan:
It's a difficult time for everybody. World events have brought out the best and the worst in people. You all know my story. You know that before I came to Japan, America was the only home I have ever known. But to some people, the color of my skin and the name on my driver's license is all they need to mark me as "Other" and "Enemy." My family was never very religious, we call ourselves Muslim because that is our culture and history. But other than a few lessons as a child and the occasional holiday, I never really practiced anything. My parents wanted me to be 100% American and, as far as I knew, I was. I guess I'm like a lot of 1st and 2nd generation Americans that way.

But all that changed after 9-11. All of a sudden I was the enemy. I was a terrorist. I was a killer. Many of my neighbors cowered and hid from the angry Americans, afraid that we were going to be snatched away in the middle of the night to some prison island somewhere. People changed their clothing, their habits, even their names to avoid suspicion. I don't blame them, they made the right decision for them.

But I made a different decision. I wear what I wear to the ring not our of religious obligation, but because I want everyone to know who I am, where I'm from, and what I stand for. I am Iraqi. I am American. I am Japanese. I am intercontinental. And in this time where old stories are being told all over again, I will be what this world needs: The Intercontinental Champion.

American Beetle:
I had a rousing speech prepared in the finest tradition of American oration. But no. After reading what Hassan wrote...He deserves to be champion. He is what AMERICA is! The international nation!! The land of immigrants and opportunity!!! The land of the free and the home of the brave!!!! America will not bow to fear. America will not give into those who wish to destroy us, at home or abroad.

But with that said. I am an American. That means I fight for what's right. At AWL 160 I will do the right thing and give Hassan and Yamada Jiro the best fight I've got. If Hassan want's to be Intercontinental Champion, he has to earn it.

Yamada Jiro (Translated from Japanese):
What a load of garbage! The Americans whine and complain about being attacked and being victims? WE are the victims. Have the American's forgotten what they did to us? The millions of men, women, and children they killed in the war? Do they spare one thought for the atomic bomb survivors who have to live with pain and illness every day of their lives? Of course not! Because they are nothing but murdering savages. You reap what you sow. America has given the world nothing but war and death, now they and their allies recieve war and death in return. Japan has given the world peace and honor over the last 70 years and we have reaped the benefits.

Now I'm not condoning the actions of the dishonorable cowards who attacked the nation of Paris. Suicide is a means of regaining lost honor, not a battlefield tactic. Nobunaga would never have done such a thing! But the Americans are now getting just a taste of what they gave us. It is justice. And it will be justice when their filth is washed away from the AWL and I rise as the Zenkoku Champion.

(Please note that the opinions expressed in this blog belong to the wrestlers only and do not necessarily reflect the stance of the Animated Wrestling League or it's employees.)

In other unpleasantness, at AWL 160 yet another wrestler will fall to Batsumania. The 4 tributes have been assembled and here now their final words before they step foot into the ring possibly for the last time.

El Santo Azul (Translated from Spanish):
When my brother and I came to Japan and the AWL this was supposed to be a 6 month training journey. Nearly 4 years later and this is country has become as much a home to me as Mexico. Unfortunately, I have to have a job in order to keep my visa. Make no mistake, if I lose this match I have to leave Japan. I have everything to lose...that means I have nothing to lose!

Jon Shina:
In 48 hours, they'll say that 4 men will step into the ring. Oh nuh uh! Those other 3 men are all...wait for it...poopyheads!!! They don't have Hustle, Loyalty, or Respect!

At AWL 160 you will ALL finally SEE that the CHAMP! IS! HERE!

DOOMBUNNY:
WellIhavetoadmitIdidn'texpecttobehere. Ithoughtmywinlossrecordwasbetterthanthis. Butthat'sthewaythecarrotcakecrumbles. ThisSundayallIhavetodoispinonemantokeepmyjob. Thatdoesn'tsoundtoohard. The first of MANY promos.

At AWL 160, 6 rookies will enter the ring and fight for the biggest opportunity of their young careers, to enter the 2016 New Year's Tournament. But they will have to be quick because this is a Scramble Match, meaning that all 6 men will be in the ring at the same time. Eliminations occur by Pinfall or Submission. HOWEVER, if there is more than one wrestler left standing at the end of the 10 minute time limit, NOBODY gets into the tournament! Before they lace up their boots this Sunday, let's here from 5 of the 6 fighters in this match (The 6th is currently unknown).

Matt Classic Junior:
C4n u b3l13v3 17? 16374ch4nc3 70 3n73r 7h3 N3w Y34r'5 70urn4mn7!! 4ll 1 h4v3 70 d0 15 p1n 5 07h3r 6uy5? N0 pr0bl3m!

Kanetsu:
In winter's coldest nights, people gather around the FIRE to keep warm. Light, warmth, and love. Yes, the FIRE is beautiful. Pure and perfect. Wild and free. But Sunday, you will see the RAGE nd the FORCE that is the FIRE! 5 fools will BURN at the season finale. 5 victims....of the FLAME!!!

George Fraser:
I just do not understand it! Wrestling is a one on one sport. Why on earth would you but 6 wrestlers in the ring at the same time? It's nonsense. Now, earning 5 victories to qualify for a tournament, that I understand, but at the same time? I need to talk to the Athletic Commission about this right away.

Mr. Smiles:
Oh yeah!! I'm going to the touuuunnnnnament, the New Year's Touuuuurnament! It's going to be a fantastic night! Now, I know I might not win, but do you know what that means? It means one of my classmates at the AWL Dojo will win! That's AWESOME! I think I buy everyone a victory cake! Everyone likes cake!

Strike Taka:
I want to make a few things clear. I am no longer associated with Dr. Jigoku or the Augments. They kicked me to the curb months ago. I wanted to be a professional wrestler more than anything, but I was too small, too short, and too weak. So I went to Jigoku and signed up for the Augment Program. Biggest mistake of my life. He turned me into a.....a monster! Now I'm stuck as this long limbed freak for the rest of my life. Well, I'm going to get my revenge. Next season I am going to DESTROY the Augments and I will do it as AWL Grand Champion. To do that, I need to win the New Year's Tournament. To do that, I need to win the Scramble Match. Nothing personal, but I won't allow the other 5 this Sunday, or the other 15 in the tournament to get in my way.

In other news:
The force of, well not so evil as annoying, known as Bullet Club is in two matches this weekend. First, Bad Luck Fale and Karl Anderson defend the AWL World Tag Team Championship against Big & Spicy. Additionally, their AWL Contracts are on the line in a trios match against, HAKAISHA!, Sammy Nix, and Lee Masters. As you might expect, Bullet Club have something to say.

Bullet Club:
A.J. Styles: OK Commish, you want a war, you've got one. Let me tell y'all what's gonna happen. AWL 160 is gonna be a sweep for Bullet Club, Fale and Anderson are gonna wipe the floor with those two goofballs and walk out with our tag team belts. Maybe they'll have time to take their ring jackets off, maybe not. As for me, Omega, and Hall? OK, I admit that big lug Hakaisha is going to be a challenge. He's a legit champion and we here in Bullet Club know what it means to be a champions. But the big guy has two human shaped rocks tied to his feet called "The New Classics." No challenge for a well oiled machine like us.

But let me tell y'all about the future. About next season. The AWL is going to experience an all out WAR with Bullet Club. We've been disrespected once too often and it's time for some pay back. Try all you like Commish, but Bullet Club is in the AWL...4 LIFE!!

AWL 159: Dragon vs. Okada

AWL 159: Dragon vs. Okada 投稿者 AWLBoss

I apologize for the lateness of this episode.  Real life is (as per usual for the end of the season) demanding a great deal of my time and resources at the moment.  AWL 160 is still on schedule for next week.  Until then, enjoy the show!

Promos from Okada and Dragon

Okada (Translated from Japanese):
History. We talk a lot about history in professional wrestling. In January, I will make history when I FINALLY defeat Tanahashi in the Tokyo Dome. This weekend I will make history a second time by being the first person to ever hold both the IWGP and AWL Heavyweight Titles at the same time when I defeat Dragon-senpai. Then on November 29th, I will make history a third time when I become the first ever AWL Grand Champion. It will rain gold in the AWL Arena!

Dragon:
Okada, I have nothing by respect for you. You ARE the future of New Japan Pro Wrestling and, at the Tokyo Dome, I hope you take Tanahashi's head off with that Rainmaker Lariat of yours. But the fact of the matter is...you are NOT an AWL Wrestler. We are honored to have you as a guest in our locker room and I dont think you have heat with anybody, but you are NOT one of us. The final AWL World's Heavyweight Champion and the first AWL Grand Champion should be an AWL Wrestler, plain and simple.

That means that this weekend I am going to do everything in my power to hold on this this belt. I don't care how many times I have to fly off of the ropes. I don't care how much punishment I have to absorb. I don't care how many times I have to rock you with the Dragon Drop. I AM walking out of the AWL Arena with my title...or I'm not walking out.

Lucha Showcase at AWL 160

A little while ago, I mentioned that the AWL Commissioner was out of town looking to book a "Something special" for AWL 160. Well, now I can tell you at least most of what that was. The AWL Commissioner was in Mexico this past week talking to people at AAA Lucha Libre. Everyone here at the office thought that the boss was there to smooth things over with AAA politically after AWL Wrestler Vacant defeated Alberto El Patron for the AAA Mega Championship. Turns out he was up to much more than that:
For AWL 160:
LUCHA SHOWCASE!
Prince Puma, Ma-Ji-Ku, & X vs. El Rudo Rojo, King Cuerno, & X
Trios Match

Interestingly enough, both Prince Puma and King Cuerno are Lucha Underground wrestlers but Dario Cueto seems to have completely disappeared and the new El Hefe of The Temple, Catrina, has not been returning the Commissioner's phone calls and doesn't appear to have an e-mail address at all. Luckily, the AWL Commissioner was able to come to handshake agreements with both Puma and Cuerno to appear for this match. Additionally, those who unnamed wrestlers? They will be a special guest Technico and a special guest Rudo from AAA Lucha Libre. Let the speculation begin!

AWL 160 Card So Far

While I certainly would not call this a slow news week, I think it's a good time to take a step back and look at the big picture. As always, this entire season has been building to the Season Finale at AWL 160. We will crown our first Grand Champion. We will recognize either an intercontenental or zenkoku title. At least one wrester will lose their job. And at least one wrestler will secure their spot in the biggest event on the AWL calendar, the New Year's Tournament! Here's the card so far

AWL 160: Season 8 Finale
MAIN EVENT
???? (C) vs. ????(C)
Title Unification Match
There MUST Be A Winner!
Currently, Dragon and Captain AWL hold the heavyweight and light heavyweight titles respectively. But each man has one title defense before the big show, so everything could still change. For the record, according to the AWL Rule Book, "Must be a winner" means no count outs, no DQ, no time limit. Pinfall or submission only. Fall must take place inside the ring.

Hassan (IC) vs. 山田二郎 (全国) vs. American Beetle
Title Recognition Match
2 out of 3 falls
30 Minute Time Limit
I have a correction to make. For months I've been talking about this being an elimination match, unfortunately Hassan's choice of stipulations makes that impossible. The first man (or insect) to earn two falls will be the newest champion in the AWL. If American Beetle wins, he will choose which title, IC or Zenkoku will be recognized.

Bullet Club (Styles, Omega, Hall) vs. Team AWL (X, X, & X)
Trios Match
30 Minute Time Limit
If Bullet Club Wins they will ALL enter the New Year's Tournament
If Bullet Club Loses they will ALL be BANISHED from the AWL.
This is the match I announced yesterday. We are still awaiting word on who will represent the AWL in this match. I hope to have some information on this tomorrow. This will be a one fall match.

Bullet Club (Fale & Anderson) (C) vs. Big & Spicy (3)
AWL World Tag Team Championship Match
4th Title Defense
I know what you're thinking "But how can Bullet Club be tag team champions if they're banished from the AWL?" Good question hypothetical wrestling fan! First, this match will happen BEFORE the BC vs. AWL trios match so if Big & Spicy have anything to say about it, this won't be an issue. However, if Bullet Club are still champions at the end of the night AND Bullet Club is banished from the AWL, Fale & Anderson would be stripped of the AWL World Tag Team Championships. Regrettable, but necessary.

BATSUMANIA
E.N. Hance vs. Jon Shina vs. El Santo Azul vs. ????
4-Way Elimination Match
Winner of each fall keeps their job.
Loser of the final fall is FIRED!!
The dreaded Batsumania is almost here and three of the four tributes have been assembled. We will learn the name of the final potential victim soon. But let's take a moment to remember all the wrestlers who have been forced out of the AWL by this most horrible of matches over the last 5 seasons:

Maglubiyet Jr.
Boxing Bastard" Bruce Hoyt
Tiger Mask I
THUGLIFE" Tanaka Kenichi
Joe Obber

At AWL 160, another name will be added to this who's who of who cares.

Rookie's 6-Way Scramble Match:
Mr. Smiles vs. Matt Classic Jr. vs. Kanetsu vs. George Fraser vs. ???? vs. ????
To end on a hopeful note, 6 of the rookies who have debuted in 2015 will meet at AWL 160 in a 6-Way Scramble Match.  The winner will receive an automatic birth in the 2016 New Year's Tournament.

My sources tell me that there will be a total of 8 matches on the card.

Bullet Club is in BIG Trouble!

On the heels of announcing the biggest interpromotional match in wrestling history, the AWL Commissioner has topped himself with a new high stakes match for AWL 160. After this past weekend's attack against The New Classics, the AWL Commissioner is forcing Bullet Club to cough up a 3-man team for a trios match at the Season 8 Finale:

For AWL 160:
Bullet Club vs. Team AWL
Trios Match
30 Minute Time Limit
If Bullet Club wins, ALL 5 MEMBERS will qualify for the New Year's Tournament.
If Bullet Club loses, they are all BANISHED from the AWL!

You read that right, a guaranteed birth in the New Year's Tournament or the end of their AWL careers.

With Bad Luck Fale and Karl Anderson defending the tag titles, we know the Bullet Club trio will be Styles, Omega, & Hall. Who will represent the AWL? Stay tuned to find out!

Biggest Match in the History of Wrestling

And no, I don't consider that to be hyperbole. This just in from the AWL Commissioner's office, last week WWE World's Heavyweight Champion Vacant offered an open challenge to the AWL Roster. Well, the AWL Commissioner has jumped on this and made a match that future generations will call historic!

For AWL 158:
Vacant (WWE) vs. Rainmaker Okada (IWGP) vs. Dragon (AWL)
Champion vs. Champion vs. Champion
Interpromotional Match
By Special Order of the AWL Commissioner, this match will have an extended time limit.

Mic drop.

Dragon and Nelson Speak.

The world title is on the line yet again tomorrow night so let's hear from the wrestlers in that match. First, the challenger.

Big" Ben Nelson:
I don't give a rat arse about the AWL or frankly the AWL Championship anymore! I've spent my entire career chasing gold in this bloody company and what has it gotten me? Shagging NOTHING that's what!! And now they keep telling me that I'm "on thin ice" and "they might not book me anymore" well who cares! I've got this title match with Dragon (what sort of a name is that anyway?) and I'm going to be there, but mark my words. When I win that title you tossers are NEVER seeing it or me again. Sod off!

And now the champion:

Dragon:
Really? The old "I'm going to take the title and leave" routine? Come on Ben. You're better than that. The AWL World's Heavyweight Championship is why we're all here. It's why we all fight and I know you are no different.

Why did you stick around after Striker was hurt? Because you wanted to be champion.

Why did you demand a cage match with Kuroyama when he injured you? Because he cost you the chance to be champion.

Well now's the time son. You get a chance to be champion. The only thing standing between you and gold is this old man. So come and get it Ben. Let's see how "big" you really are!

Congrats to the new champ!

The Animated Wrestling League would like to congratulate Vacant on becoming the NEW WWE World's Heavyweight Champion!

Get well soon Seth Rollins.

We take no responsibility for our jerks!

OK, so I've got another promo from Yamada Jiro and it's the usual racist garbage. Long story short, he's ticked off at being placed in a tag team match with an unknown partner. He is assuming that his partner will be non-Japanese and he takes great offense to this.

There. Done. That's all the coverage he gets. I still run this blog and I don't want my name attached to his kind of trash!

Speaking of jerks, Captain AWL. Those of you who saw the full card for AWL 157 (and if you didn't, just scroll down a post), the cheating pric—AWL World's Light Heavyweight Champion is scheduled to face IWGP Heavyweight Champion "Rainmaker" Okada Kazuchika this weekend. Well, I reached out to New Japan Pro Wrestling and asked why they would sanction this match since they're usually so strick on their weight classes.

Well, it turns out that Okada personally requested this match. Seems the Rainmaker saw last week's episode and therefore saw Captain AWL completely ripoff his entrance right down to the famous (and apparently copyrighted) Rainmaker Pose. Wrestlers take gimmick infringement very seriously so Okada wants and plans to beat some respect into this young punk.

Nothing else for today, but I'll be back tomorrow for official comments from AWL World's Heavyweight Champion Dragon and #1 Contender "Big" Ben Nelson going into tomorrow's world heavyweight championship main event.

Danger Zone Update

Last weekend's AWL 156 event changed the Danger Zone significantly. Here now the new rankings:

as of AWL 156

E.N. Hance

El Rudo Rojo's victory over DOOMBUNNY last weekend has moved the red villain out of the zone and dropped the pink bunny man down into it. In addition, the loss by The AWL All Stars in the tag title match last weekend has dropped "Peacemaker" Luke James dangerously close to the Zone. But most importantly, with only 3 episodes until the Finale, Eric Nigel Hance can not possibly win enough matches to save himself so he is LOCKED in the Danger Zone. Jon Shina must win the 4-way light heavyweight #1 contender's match this week or he too will be LOCKED.

New Match Announced for AWL 160.

As the trees change their colors for fall, our minds here turn to the new year and the New Year's Tournament. And that is what is at stake in the newest match to be announced for the Season 8 Finale:
For AWL 160:
Rookie's 6-Man Scramble
Kanetsu vs. George Fraser vs. Matt Classic Jr. vs. Waza Breaker vs. X vs. X
1 Fall Match/10 Minute Time Limit
Winner enters the New Year's Tournament
6 wrestlers who have debuted in 2015 will compete in a frantic match for a birth in the New Year's Tournament. However, if the 10 minute time limit expires without a winner, all 6 men will be out of this year's tournament.

But who are the two unknown wrestlers in that match? We'll find out one of their identities this weekend at AWL 157:
For AWL 157:
The All Americans (1) vs. 山田二郎 & X (0)
Points in Play

The three men who will fight each other in the Recognition Match at AWL 160 face each other in tag team action. But since Yamada Jiro has exactly zero friends in the AWL, the Commissioner has decided to team him up with the newest graduate of the AWL Dojo. Who will it be? Will they make a good team? Find out at AWL 157!

Why no, I don't speak a word of Spanish, why do you ask?

As always, Captain AWL has refused to offer any comment on his title match tomorrow. Luckily we were able to reach Ma-Ji-Ku and get some words from him.

And now, in English:
My career will be defined by the AWL World's Light Heavyweight Championship. "Longest Reigning Light Heavyweight Champion" will probably be on my tombstone. And now this child who has probably spent less time in the ring than I have in the shower is going to be the last champion? I don't think so! AWL 160 is about history. Honoring history and making history. Tomorrow I will prove that I am the best at what I do and I will be bringing the AWL World Light Heavyweight Championship Belt home with me...Forever.

Many thanks to the AWL Translation Team for that.

And now (because they threatened to beat me up if I didn't post it) some comments from Bullet Club:

Who the hell do "The New Classics" think they are? A bunch of losers that can't even win with their own referee! Who brings in a special ref if he ain't gonna cheat for ya? Dumbasses. A kid who's too ugly to show his face. A one trick pony pretending to be some kinda "expert." And an idiot who doesn't even know what sport he's playing. Reeeeeeal dream team there!!

And now the oooooohhh so mysteeeeerious Commissioner decides that these fools are the great heroes that are going to save the AWL from Bullet Club? HA! If that's the best this supid little fed can cough up, they you people ain't NEVER gettin rid of us! We are Bullet Club and WE'RE! TAKING! OVER!!!

Commissioner's Weekly Address

Good evening ladies and gentlemen, I am the AWL Commissioner.

I have been promoting professional wrestling for 15 years and sometimes I feel like I have seen everything there is to see. It is not often in this business that I find myself truly surprised. Such an emotion has truly been my experience in the last few weeks as Captain AWL has risen to the exalted status of Champion of the Light Heavyweight Division. While I still do not understand his hatred of El Rudo Rojo, he has exceeded my expectations of him. I am impressed.

HOWEVER! AWL 160 is just around the courner and I can not allow an untested and unproven rookie to represent the Animated Wrestling League in the Title Unification Match. Therefore I have COMMISSIONED the final two challengers for the title to be of the highest quality. First, this weekend, Captain AWL shall face the best of the Light Heavyweight Division:
For AWL 156
Captain AWL (C) vs. Ma-Ji-Ku
AWL World Light Heavyweight Championship Match
1st Title Defense.

Furthermore, eight of the AWL's best light heavyweight wrestlers will compete in singles matches this week and next week the winners of those bouts will meet in a 4-way match to determine the final challenger before the season finale.

THIS! I have COMMISSIONED!!!!!! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!

--XOXO AWL Commissioner
