Happy Holidays from the Animated Wrestling League

Merry Christmas Wrestling fans!

From everyone here at the Animated Wrestling League, we wish you a very happy holiday wherever you are and however you celebrate.  May the season be filled with warmth and joy…and may all acts of gratuitous violence you witness be confined to the squared circle and not the dinner table.  See you in the new year for the AWL New Year’s Tournament.

Start Your Brackets

I’m back and I have the first-round matches for the New Year’s Tournament.  These matches were decided by random lottery, with the exception of the wild card debut, which always takes the 16th slot in the final match of the first round.
The rules of the tournament are as follows.  All matches are one-on-one.  All partners, mangers, cornermen, etc. are barred from ringside for the duration of the tournament.  Winners can advance by pinfall, submission, ring out, or disqualification.  In the event of a double ring out, double disqualification, or time limit draw, BOTH wrestlers are eliminated from the tournament.  All first round matches will have a 10 minute time limit, second round 15, semifinals 20, and the final will have a 30 minute time limit just like an AWL Grand Championship Match.
Without further ado, the first-round matches:
1. Ganba vs. Tiger Mask II
An appropriate start.  The man who has been a symbol of what the AWL is all about since Season 0 versus the man who spearheaded the campaign that saved the AWL from GWM.  Even better it should be a great match.

2. Matt Classic Jr. vs. Chiba Akagi
Two young studs with excellent technical acumen more fitting of wrestlers with twice their experience.  The biggest question mark here is Matt Classic Jr.  This will be his first match back from injury, so ring rust is an obvious and legitimate concern.

3. Azteckaizer NEO vs. Lee Masters
The first big mismatch this year.  A partly supernatural powerhouse versus a technical wizard.  Which will win out?  Youth and power, or experience and technique?

4. Estralla Dorada vs. Okada
This, children, is what we call an unlucky draw.  The Gold Star of Lucha Libre is simply out matched here.  The only hope Dorada has is if Okada makes a mistake due to being fatigued or injured between now and then.  NOTE: The New Year’s Tournament is taped on January 1st, three days before Wrestle Kingdom 12.  No matter what happens on that show, Okada will still be the IWGP Heavyweight Champion at the tournament.

5. Sammy Nix vs. Project Tetsu 2.0
Much to my surprise, this is Project Tetsu’s first time competing in the tournament.  As strong and skilled as the Suplex Master is, he’s a serious underdog in this match.  But it wouldn’t be the first time Project Tetsu has fallen at the hands of an obvious underdog.  Sammy Nix, on the other hand, has the extra motivation of being the defending NYT winner and the desire to become the first wrestler ever to win back to back tournaments.  Still, he has a steep hill to climb.

6. Erupcion Solar vs. Hassan
An intriguing match.  Both these men have somewhat similar styles.  Their entire game plan revolves around wearing their opponents down before hitting a signature move to finish them off.  In Hassan’s case, the Paradigm Shift.  In Solar’s case, the Supernova.  The obvious diffences include style, American vs. Lucha Libre, and experience, the youngest member of the roster vs. a Season 0 Original.  Frankly, I think this one’s a tossup.

7. Wyvern vs. Big Jerry
A classic David vs. Goliath situation.  Wyvern is a high-flying cruiserweight and Big Jerry lives up to his nickname by being a superheavyweight and currently the heaviest man on the roster.  The key here may be the lack of backup.  While Wyvern typically travels with Shin Jidai, he has plenty of experience wrestling on his own.  Big Jerry, on the other hand, has had relatively few singles matches and this may be his first match without his boss and tag team partner, Frederick Victor in his corner.

8. Ma-Ji-Ku vs. X
Not much I can say about this one, is there?  Ma-Ji-Ku is simply one of the best wrestlers ever to set foot in an AWL Ring.  But he’s getting on in years and has be contemplating retirement for a couple of years now.  In a way, the fact that GWM wouldn’t touch “a Mexican midget” (their words, not mine) outside of a single appearance in the Fukumen World Tournament was probably a good thing for him as he’s had months to heal some nagging injuries.  This will either be his best tournament performance in years…or his last.
There you have it wrestling fans, the stage is set for the 2018 New Year’s Tournament.  I’ll see you on January 7th as we start the new year and the new season off with a bang with the return of the Animated Wrestling League!

New Year's Tournament Participants Announced!

Greetings Wrestling Fans (man oh man does it feel good to call you that again), your commentator and head reporter Ryusensei back at the helm and without any GWM corporate jackasses telling me what to write!

The New Year’s Tournament is less than three weeks away and it’s time to announce the participants in order of win-loss records.  The actual first round matches will be determined by random lottery and announced in a few days.  For now, here are the competitors:

Ganba
Hassan
Tiger Mask II
Sammy Nix
Project Tetsu
Wyvern
Chiba Akagi
Azteckaizer Neo
Okada
Lee Masters
Erupticon Solar
Big Jerry
Estralla Dorada
Matt Classic Jr.
Ma-Ji-Ku
X

These 15 men have the best win loss records in the AWL.  The only exception is HAKAISHA! who actually has the best win loss record at +44 (a career record of 71-27) but is inigible for the tournament this year on account of already being AWL Grand Champion.  As per AWL custom, the final slot in the tournament will be filled by a wrestler making their AWL Debut.  A lot of impressive names on this list.  3 former tournament winners including last year’s winner Sammy Nix, one of only two two-time winners Ganba, and the man who won the tournament from that 16th wild card slot Wyvern.

Additionally, Matt Classic Jr., who suffered a nasty concussion in the dying days of GWM has been medically cleared by AWL Head Medical Official, Dr. Marcus Feelgood.

We also have 5 former AWL Grand Champions in this bracket this year including the longest reigning IWGP Heavyweight Champion in history (Okada), the man with the most reigns as top champion in AWL history (Ganba), and the youngest ever Grand Champion (Wyvern).

We also have a handful of wrestlers making their first appearance in the tournament: Big Jerry, Project Tetsu, and Tiger Mask II*.

That’s about all the analysis I have for you today.  We’ll know more once the first round matches are announced.

Until then, I’m Ryusensei and this is the Animated Wrestling League!

On your marks...

I have waited a long time to say this.  Good evening ladies and gentlemen.  I am the AWL…Commissioner.

We…are…BACK!  The Animated Wrestling League is REBORN!!!  At the turning of the new year, we shall rise from the ashes for the biggest event in our calendar and the start of AWL Season 12: The New Year’s Tournament.  16 professional wrestlers will compete in a one-night single elimination tournament with the sole survivor receiving a prize more precious that any amount of money…an automatic title match at the AWL Grand Championship currently held by The Japanese Destroyer.

Furthermore, we are restarting the AWL Best 4 system of determining the top contenders to the AWL Grand Championship.  The winner of the New Year’s Tournament will be the number one contender, his fellow finalist will be number two, and the losers of the semifinals will become numbers three and four based on who has the best win loss record.

More information regarding the tournament will be announced within the next few days.  However, before we can continue into the future, we must discuss the past.  First, all win loss records and tag team division points are reinstated and shall be carried over from Season 11.  Before Season 12 properly begins at AWL 221, there will be an AWL By the Numbers post to clarify such matters.

Second, the Animated Wrestling League is offering an open invitation for all AWL Wrestlers who signed with Global Wrestling Monopoly to return to the Animated Wrestling League without prejudice.  Already Ganba, Luke James, all three members of Shin Jidai, and The Augments have taken us up on the offer.  The offer is still open to anyone who qualifies.  The lone exception is American Beetle.  He lost the Batsumania Match at AWL 220 and is not welcome to return.

Third, speaking of the Augments, I hereby STRIP Project Tetsu of the AWL Anarchy Championship and officially once again retire the title.  Season 12 will be about the restoration of order to the Animated Wrestling League.  The last thing I need is anarchy.

Forth, I have received requests for bookings from some former Global Wrestling Monopoly so called Superstars.  Their requests will be considered on a case by case basis.  Already I have signed Tiger the Dark to an AWL Contract and happily welcome him to the roster.

Fifth, I am still deciding what to do with the now defunct Global Wrestling Monopoly championship belts that we acquired following Final Wars.  More information on that as it becomes available.

Finally, allow me to announce the official Supercard schedule for 2018:
January: New Year’s Tournament 2018.
February: National Pro Wrestling Day 2018? (Chikara has not announced the event for this year.)
March: ???? (Well, I have to keep some secrets. BWAHAHAHAHAH!)
May: Golden War 2018.
August: Obon-nanza 2018.
October: Clash of Styles Tournament.

That is all.  I wish all of you a very happy holiday and ask you to please look forward to the 12th Season of the Animated Wrestling League.

THIS!  I have COMMISSIONED!!!!!!!!  BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
--XOXO AWL Commissioner

Team AWL Update!

Unfortunately, due to injuries suffered during events shown on last weekend’s WrestleMAX, both Tiger the Dark and Azteckaizer NEO are OUT of Final Wars.  Team AWL Captain Tiger Mask II has provided this updated list:

Tiger Mask II, Hakaisha, Ganba, Ma-Ji-Ku, Hassan, Kid Canada, Wyvern.

“The Japanese Megastar” Ganba is replacing Tiger the Dark and Wyvern is replacing his Shin Jidai partner Azteckaizer NEO.

But the biggest news is that we also now know the final two members of the team:

“Peacemaker” Luke James!

Both Ganba and James were released from their GWM contracts after attacking John Hero last week.  Tiger Mask II as only too happy to snap both of them up for the team.  Luke James was the final AWL Grand Champion before the company was forced to shut down.  He will undoubtedly be looking for some measure of revenge at Final Wars.

And now the big one:

RAINMAKER Okada Kazuchika!

That’s right!  While best known as the longest reigning IWGP Champion of all time, the Rainmaker is also a former AWL Grand Champion, one of only two men ever to hold IWGP and AWL gold at the same time (the other being AJ Styles), and the winner of the AWL’s first ever Ultimate Summit Tournament.  He defeated Tiger the Great III in The Third’s first ever televised loss.

With the team chock full of current and former champions, including two men who have beaten Tiger the Great III, this Final War is by no means a foregone conclusion.

Final Wars Teams Announced!

Both Tiger the Great III and Tiger Mask have announced their teams for Final Wars.  Remember, these teams ARE subject to change and revision up until bell time on December 3rd.

Team GWM:

Tiger the Great III
Big Tiger II
King Tiger
Tiger the Black
GWM Intercontinental Champion Yellow Devil
GWM United States Champion American Beetle
GWM Tag Team Champion Miracle 1
GWM Tag Team Champion Miracle 2
Red Death Mask.

No surprises here.  All four of the Four Tigers, several champions, and a known killer in Red Death Mask.  Now for Tiger Mask’s picks for to represent the Animated Wrestling League:

Team AWL:

GWM World’s Heavyweight Champion Tiger Mask II
Tiger the Dark
HAKAISHA
Ma-Ji-Ku
AWL World’s Tag Team Champion Hassan
AWL World’s Tag Team Champion Kid Canada
Azteckaizer NEO
X
X

Two slots remain empty.  This is perfectly acceptable within the rules of Final Wars as long as the final roster is publicly available at least 24 hours before showtime.  An interesting lineup including three wrestlers who have never competed in GWM before and a couple who have only had one or two matches.  The most interesting choice to my mind is Tiger the Dark who, let’s be honest, hasn’t exactly won a lot of matches in his career.  I know he’s Tiger Mask’s friend, but I don’t think this pick helps his team.

Thursday, November 23, 2017

Challenge Accepted

The challenge of GWM World’s Heavyweight Champion Tiger Mask has been accepted.  Global Wrestling Monopoly will face The Animated Wrestling League in Final War.

For those of you unfamiliar with this GWM custom, in Final Wars two Sports Entertainment Organizations face off in 5 matches.  Singles, tag team, trios, tag team, and singles in that order.  Whichever team wins the majority of those matches wins Final Wars.  The team line-ups must be announced ahead of time, but which Superstar competes in which match remains confidential until the match begins.

The stakes are incredibly high.  The winner of Final Wars claims ALL of the defeated company’s championship title belts, effectively putting them out of business.

This will be a 9 on 9 Final Wars.  Meaning that each team will consist of nine Superstars and no Superstar will be permitted to compete twice.

Final Wars: GWM vs. AWL will take place on Sunday, December 3rd.

A Tiger's Response

The following message has been translated from Japanese.

Rematch clause?  What rematch clause?  In case you didn’t realize, I don’t have a contract with GWM.  I’m a freelancer, so your contract means exactly nothing to me!
But, if you want a chance to regain the GWM World’s Heavyweight Championship, I’ll give it to you on one condition:

GWM vs. AWL…FINAL WARS!

Tuesday, November 21, 2017

Tiger the Great III is invoking his rematch clause immediately!

Friday, November 17, 2017

Message from the champ.

The GWM World's Heavyweight Champion, Tiger the Great III has a message for two upstarts who dream of challenging for the gold.

I have the right to name my challenger.  The false tiger and the insect want to be the one.  Let them earn the right to face me.  Let the ant and the cat face each other in an Iron Man Match!  I hereby declare that the winner of that match will be my chosen challenger.

A blockbuster announcement from the champion.  Two outsiders will face each other in a Sports Entertainment marathon for the privilege of competing against the greatest Superstar of all time!  Tune into GWM WrestleMAX for that epic encounter!

No Episode this Weekend

Due to the chaos coming out of the Fukumen World Tournament, there will be no broadcast of  GWM WrestleMAX this weekend.  The fact that I've pretty much lost my voice has nothing to do with it nopenopenope.

Weekly Diva Dirt

Hey there GWM Universe, Weekly Diva Dirt is back!  With all the focus on the tournament, the ladies are not being forgotten!  First things first, there will be a Diva’s Tag Team Match this weekend on WrestleMAX.  It will be a rematch between Athena Jane & Miss-X and the Kiseki*GIRLS’ Haruko & Fuyuko.

Also, and more importantly, the Divas will have a presence at the Fukumen World Tournament event itself!  6 of the best Divas in all of Sports Entertainment will compete in a Battle Royal to crown a new #1 Contender to the GWM Diva’s Championship.  They are (in no particular order):
Fox Payne, Spring Tiger,Akiko, Athena Jane, Kyuuketsu Lady, and Sexy Star!

The go home show nobody cares about!

Even with the Fukumen World Tournament only a week away, we have contractual obligations to fulfill and that means there WILL be an episode of GWM Wrestle MAX this weekend.

In the Double Featured Contest, first, the GWM United States Championship will be on the line as American Beetle defends the championship against the man who defeated him in a qualifying match last week, Prakash Sabar.

Second, 3 of The 4 Tigers will unite against a team of 3 other qualified Superstars in a trios match.
There will also be other matches.

Challenge from the Champion!

He is a man of few words, often preferring to do his talking in the ring.  Nevertheless, we’ve received an official public statement from GWM World’s Heavyweight Champion, Tiger the Great III regarding the incident that happened after his most recent title defense (an issue I have been forbidden to write about until now).  Here is his statement in its entirety:

“Fire Ant.  If you want to fight me for my championship, that’s fine.  All you have to do is win the Fukumen World Tournament.  I’ll see you on Halloween.”

That message was accompanied by a formal statement from GWM Management officially inviting Fire Ant to join the Fukumen World Tournament.  Therefore, the official list now stands at:

Tiger the Great III (GWM World’s Champion)
Big Tiger II
King Tiger
Tiger the Black
Big Foot
American Beetle (GWM US Champion)
Miracle 2 (GWM Tag Team Champion)
Azteckaizer NEO
Mr. Azerbaijan
Prakash Sabar
Hasaiki
Fire Ant

4 more Superstars to be determined.

Fukumen World Tournament Update

We have some unfortunate news that has forced a change in line up at GWM’s Fukumen World Tournament.  During the qualifying match that was shown during last week’s GWM WrestleMAX, GWM Superstar Matt Classic Jr. took a hard fall where the back of his head bounced off the bottom rope.  While he persevered, finishing the match, pulling out a victory and, earning a slot in the tournament, he has been diagnosed with a concussion and is NOT medically cleared to compete.
GWM Management has allowed Matt Classic Jr. to name his own replacement in the Fukumen World Tournament.  Therefore…AZTECKAIZER NEO has been added to the field!

In thankfully less unfortunate news, another hole opened in the field when neither Red Death Mask nor Yellow Devil managed to qualify for the main tournament.  Since one can enter via qualification OR invitation, GWM Management has decided to invite…..AMERICAN BEETLE to join the Fukumen World Tournament!

With those changes in place, the list of Superstars officially announced for the tournament is:
Tiger the Great III (GWM World’s Champion)
Big Tiger II
King Tiger
Tiger the Black
Big Foot
American Beetle (GWM US Champion)
Miracle 2 (GWM Tag Team Champion)
Azteckaizer NEO
Mr. Azerbaijan
Prakash Sabar
Hasaiki

5 more Superstars to be determined.

BREAKING NEWS!

American Beetle has CASHED IN his automatic rematch clause and will challenge for the GWM United States Championship TOMORROW!  That title match will be brought to you in its entirety on this Sunday’s episode of GWM Wrestle MAX.

American beetle is already scheduled for a Fukumen World Tournament qualifying match to be filmed this Saturday.  He WILL honor that commitment.  Failure to appear for a scheduled match is an immediate firing offense for ANY GWM Superstar.

Thursday, October 19, 2017

Fukumen World Tournament qualifiers.

We don’t know how they will be matched up yet, (the matches will take place tonight, tomorrow, and Friday at GWM Live Events) but here are the 12 Superstars who will fight for a birth in the Fukumen World Tournament:

Yellow Devil (GWM IC Champion)
Mr. Azerbaijan (GWM US Champion)
Miracle 1 (GWM Tag Team Champion)
Miracle 2 (GWM Tag Team Champion)
Red Death Mask
El Caracas
Project Tetsu
Wyvern
Matt Classic Jr.
Hasaiki
Prakash Sabar (GWM Debut)
American Beetle

It’s an impressive and gold laden collection of Superstars.  The possible match-ups are intriguing so it’s important to remember, anything can happen in the GWM!

Fukumen World Tournament for Dummies.

With the Fukumen World Tournament only two weeks away, we should probably go over the rules and rewards for the lucky Superstars involved.

1. 16 masked Superstars will compete in a one night, single elimination match.  Win and go on, lose and go home.  In the event of a double count out or double DQ, BOTH men are eliminated.

2. There are two ways to enter the tournament, by invitation or by winning a qualifying match.

3. The winner of the tournament receives a $10,000 cash prize, an automatic GWM World’s Heavyweight Championship Match, and the title of World’s Greatest Masked Superstar!

Already announced for the tournament:
Tiger the Great III
Big Tiger II
King Tiger
Tiger the Black
Big Foot

That leaves 11 slots to be filled and I can announce that there will be 6 qualifying matched this week that will air this weekend on GWM WrestleMAX!  That means 5 slots in the tournament will be given away by invitation and will remain unknown until the day of the tournament.  After all, what’s Halloween without a few surprises?

World Championship #1 Contender's Match Announced!

As if this weekend’s episode of GWM WrestleMAX wasn’t stacked enough with 3 championship matches, a bout has been scheduled for tomorrow’s GWM Live Event that will may shake the foundation of all Sports Entertainment going forward!

Big Tiger II, King Tiger, AND Tiger the Black will face each other in a Triple Threat Match.  The winner faces Tiger the Great III next week for the GWM World’s Heavyweight Championship!!

That title match will also be the LAST title match before the Fukumen World Tournament on Halloween Night.

Weekly Diva Dirt

Hey there Diva Fans!

Obviously the biggest and only story anyone is talking about in the GWM Diva’s Division this week is the championship match between Queen and Natsuko.  Queen is currently in her 5th month as GWM Diva’s Champion while Natsuko is a rookie who hasn’t even worked here that long.  All the professional odds makers are looking at this as a lopsided easy win for the champion, but we have some exclusive news that may alter those betting lines a bit:
Natsuko WILL be accompanied by ALL THREE of her fellow Kiseki*GIRLS for her championship match!

That’s a LOT of coaching and emotional support in her corner, but will that be enough to overcome the height, power, and experience advantages of the Queen of the Divas?  Tune in this weekend and find out!

3 Championship Matches Announced!!

Three of the most prestigious championships in all of sports entertainment will be defended this week and you’ll get to see all of it on GWM WrestleMAX!

Yellow Devil (C) vs. Yamada Jiro—GWM IC Championship Match—STEEL CAGE!

American Beetle (C) vs. ?—GWM United States Championship Match—A.C.E.

Queen (C) vs. Natsuko—GWM Diva’s Championship

Saturday, October 7, 2017

WEEKLY DIVA DIRT

We have a lot of Diva related news this week.  First, it’s time to crown as new #1 Contender to the GWM Diva’s Championship.  In the last few weeks, Natsuko, Kyuuketsu Lady, and Fox Payne have all won 1-on-1 matches and will face off in a Triple Threat Match.  The first Diva to score a pin or submission will face Queen for the GWM Diva’s Championship!

In other Diva’s Division news, Athena Jane is livid about losing to not one, but two if the Kiseki*GIRLS and has demanded a match with BOTH Fuyuko and Haruko.  However, GWM Management were not happy about this because handicap matches are reserved for punishment and the Kiseki*GIRLS are not going to be punished for winning.  So, Athena Jane has to find a tag team partner.  If she does, the match is on!

FUKUMEN WORLD TOURNAMENT UPDATE

The fifth participant has been announced for the Fukumen World Tournament:
BIGFOOT shall join the 4 Tigers in the quest to determine the  #1 Masked Superstar in the world.  11 slots remain.  Stay Turned to Fukumen World Tournament for all the latest updates.

HANDICAP MATCH ANNOUNCED

After last week’s less than decisive victory against Yamada Jiro, GWM Management have decided that Yellow Devil must prove himself worthy of remaining a champion.  Therefore, Yellow Devill shall face BOTH members of Nippon Yokata in a one on two handicap match.  If the Japanese Superstars are successful, Yamada Jiro will get a rematch for the GWM Intercontinental Championship…in a Steel Cage!!

Thursday, October 5, 2017

NEW CHAMPION CROWNED!

No, not in the Intercontinental Division, but there is a NEW Global Wrestling Monopoly Pacific Champion!  Our newest Superstar won the title at a GWM Live Event in Singaphore this past weekend.  Next week on GWM WrestleMAX you’ll get to see the new Pacific Champion in action in his television debut!

Saturday, September 30, 2017

WEEKLY DIVA DIRT

A new regular feature.  All the news you need from the GWM Diva’s Division!

First this week, GWM welcomed FIVE new Diva’s to the roster last week as Natsuko of the Kiseki*GIRLS defeated Athena Jane in what some are calling an unexpected upset.  We have word that Athena Jane has demanded a rematch but that Natsuko has declined, suggesting that one of her sisters take her place.

In surprising news, the GWM Diva’s Champion Queen Elizabeth has issued a challenge to AAA and Lucha Underground Diva Sexy Star!  From what my sources in the Diva’s locker room tell me, it all stems from Sexy Star’s unprofessional actions at a recent AAA show down in Mexico.  If approved, this will be a non-title match, but should the masked woman of wonder defeat the Queen of the Divas, then obviously a title match would be in her future.

IC Title Match Confirmed

It’s official!  The GWM Intercontinental Championship will be defended next Sunday!

Yellow Devil (C) vs. Yamada Jiro

This will be Yellow Devil’s first title defense since our recent broadcast expansion.  So, for those who came in late, Yellow Devil is a 2-time Intercontinental Champion who defeated Big Foot for the championship 2 months ago.  His previous title reign was 2 years ago.  He won it from Black Viper and lost it to former GWM Superstar Tiger the Dark.

In other news, the GWM Pacific Championship has been declared Vacant since champion Odin has not defended the championship in the last 30 days.  A new champion will be crowned as soon as possible.

Saturday, September 23, 2017

More Titles!!

DEVELOPMENTS IN THE US AND IC DIVISIONS

American Beetle will continue his A.C.E. (American Campaign of Exceptionalism) Open Challenge this week and he will face another worthy opponent.  The GWM United States Championship will be on the line.

And in the main event, one of the 4 Tigers, Big Tiger II will face both Japanese Superstar Yamada Jiro and the, heh heh…plucky…rookie The Mother Clucker in a triple threat match.  The winner earns a title shot against Yellow Devil for the GWM Intercontinental Championship next week.

It's that time again!

FUKUMEN WORLD TOURNAMENT ANNOUNCEMENT!

The GWM’s annual quest to find the best masked wrestler in the world is back!  On Sunday, October 29th, 16 of the greatest masked men in Sports Entertainment will face off in a one-night single elimination tournament.  The winner will not only receive the glory of winning the tournament, they will receive $100,000 (or the equivalent in their local currency based on exchange rates at 9:00am the day of the tournament) AND most importantly, a future championship match against Tiger the Great III!

Furthermore, I can announce that ALL FOUR Tigers will compete in the tournament!!

That’s right, even Tiger the Great III.  If the champion wins the tournament, he will earn the right to choose his own challenger for his next title defense.  He will have 7 days to make his announcement.

Friday, September 22, 2017

Title Match Announced!

GWM Universe!  Vengeance will be ours!!  Miracle 1 and Miracle 2 are cashing in their automatic rematch clause for the GWM Tag Team Titles.  However, since Silver Ant is not medically cleared to compete, GWM Authorities have allowed him to select another member of The Furies to act as co-champion under the Freebird Rule.

That championship match will take place this coming weekend at GWM WrestleMAX!

Episode Delay

Due to real life commitments, this week's episode of GWM WrestleMAX is being delayed until next week.  I apologize for any inconvenience.  Taking this additional week will allow me to build a bit of a buffer so hopefully this doesn't happen again.

NEW United States Champion Crowned!

As part of our ongoing contract negotiations with new talent (Last seen being vacated by Big Tiger II as he moved up to the world title picture), Global Wrestling Monopoly has resurrected the GWM United States Championship and, as part of his new contract, awarded it to the latest Superstar to join GWM:

AMERICAN BEETLE!!

All of us at Global Wrestling Monopoly are overjoyed to have the hottest free agent in Sports Entertainment joining our brand.

Additionally, GWM United States Champion American Beetle has issued an open challenge to any international athlete (meaning any trained sports entertainer not born or living in the United States) to come to GWM and fight him for the US Championship.  American Beetle calls this his A.E.C.  American Exceptionalism Campaign.

Full Card for GWM WrestleMAX 9/3/2017

Greeting GWM Universe!  GWM WrestleMAX will be heading your way this Sunday morning.

Unlike your smaller indy feds, Global Wrestling Monopoly has no “home base” arena.  We tour all over the world all year round.  The only way the members of the GEM Universe get to see a full show is to buy a ticket to one of our live events.  If you can’t afford the hottest ticket in town, fear not!  Because GWM WrestleMAX will bring you the best highlights and full matches from around the world and this weekend’s first episode is no exception.

Before I reveal the stacked card for this Sunday, I have some important news:

GWM Management (in consultation with YOUR World’s Heavyweight Champion Tiger the Great III) have decided to offer a limited number of contracts to former AWL talent.  While some…contractual obligations…were rejected by some of the less…visionary athletes, a fine selection of AWL competitors have taken our generous offer and will (over the next few weeks) make their debuts as GWM Superstars!

But enough about developmental, let’s talk about this Sunday’s Sports Entertainment:

GWM WrestleMAX 9/3/2017
FEATURED CONTEST:
Over the Top Rope Battle Royal
Winner faces Tiger the Great III for the GWM World’s Heavyweight Championship NEXT WEEK!
6 of the best Superstars in GWM today will compete for the privilege of facing the undefeated and undisputed GWM Champion.  Included in this massive match will be 3 of the 4 Great Tigers, Big Tiger II, King Tiger, and Tiger the Black!
Tiger the Great III set for singles action!
The champ will grace the ring with his presence and offer the GWM Universe the chance to see him showcase his skills!  Truly a honor to christen the first episode of WrestleMAX.
Miracles (C) vs. The Colony
For the GWM Tag Team Championships
Difficult as it may be to believe, the otherwise insignificant insects of Chikara pro wrestling (A minor sports entertainment organization from middle-of-nowhere Pennsylvania) used the element of surprise and pulled off an upset win over the champs on the final AWL show.  Therefore the ants have earned a championship match.
Queen Elizabeth vs. Spring Tiger
Action in the Diva’s Division as the Queen of Sports Entertainment and GWM Diva’s champion faces the upstart false tiger in non-title action.
Yellow Devil in Singles Action
Rounding out this cavalcade of champions, the GWM Intercontinental Champion Yellow Devil will compete in non-title action against a debuting GWM Superstar.

Tune into this site Sunday Morning for the first ever episode of GWM WrestleMAX!

Final Promos...but for how long?

For what may be the final time, I turn this final blog post before the AWL Season 11 Finale over to the champion and challenger in this weekend’s all important AWL Grand Championship Match.  First, the challenger:

I wanted to fight Wrestler X.  I wanted a challenge.  Now I’m reduced to wrestling a ridiculous cowboy.  I guess I will have to be satisfied with ending the Animated Wrestling League and bringing GWM one step closer to ruling the wrestling world.
--Tiger the Great III

The world on my shoulders.  The world on my shoulders.  The world on my shoulders.  That’s all I’ve been hearing all week.  From the lockerroom to the fans, to my own family!  Even the AWL Commissioner called me into his office to “Make sure I understood the situation.”
Well I do!  I know that if I blow it in this match we lose the Grand Championship for good and we’re off the air.  Meaning that all the boys are out of work.  I know.  I also know that I’m not the best fighter in the AWL.  I know my win-loss record.  I know that just last week that big white tiger made me tap out in the middle of the ring.  No excuses, he beat me.
But I know something else.  I know that I AM THE AWL GRAND FREAKING CHAMPION!!  I know that I’m the man with the belt and right now that makes me the BEST WRESTLER IN THE WHOLE DAMN WORLD!!!  Is Tiger the Great the Whatever gonna kick my ass?  Yeah!  He’s going to beat seven circles of hell out of me.  But is he going to defeat me?  Is he going to take my title?

Hell no!  Tiger, I’ll see you on Sunday.  Everyone else, I’ll see you in Season 12.

HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT!

Last week we learned that the Augments must control a recognized championship for Dr. Jigoku to be able to summon and command the Skull Head Killer.  Since they don’t control any belts at the moment, Ganba can’t get his hands on the monster who’s been decimating our roster.

                Until today!

Ladies and gentlemen, it is my honor and privilege to announce that the AWL Commissioner has reinstated the AWL Anarchy Championship and awarded it to Project Tetsu!!

While long term AWL fans will remember the Anarchy Championship, it was a singles championship with unusual rules intended to inspire chaos and excitement in our shows.  Both the challenger and the stipulations for each Anarchy Title Match were decided AT RANDOM.

The Anarchy Championship will not be on the line at AWL 220, but it’s presence will be enough.  Win or lose, the Skull Head Killer will make itself known…and feared.

Ganba was unavailable for comment as of press time.  In fact, I don’t think anyone’s seen him since last weekend.

A look to the future...one way or the other.

I may not be the biggest New Day fan in the world, but there’s something to be said for the power of positivity.  Working under the assumption that Luke James is going to defeat Tiger the Great III this Sunday and that there WILL be an AWL Season 12, the AWL Commissioner asked AWL Dojo Head Trainer Dragon to select two of his best students for a Graduation Match at AWL 220!

It’s been a while since the last graduation match, so I’ll remind you of the rules.  Two students from the AWL Dojo face each other in a 1 fall 10 minute time limit match.  The winner receives a full time AWL Contract and joins the main roster, the loser either returns to the AWL Dojo for further training, or is expelled from the AWL (a decision entirely at Head Trainer Dragon’s discretion).  Win or lose, the Graduation Match is NOT counted in the AWL Win-Loss Rankings.  That allows all graduates a clean slate when they join the main roster.

That’s the good news.  As you might imagine, there’s some of the other kind as well.  Miss X of Global Wrestling Monopoly has another of her stupid press announcements that, for some reason, the AWL Commissioner insists I publish:

GWM Universe!

This weekend at the final ever AWL event, Global Wrestling Monopoly proudly presents a Tag Team Open Invitational!

To give all members of the GWM Universe a preview of the type of sports entertainment you will have the privilege of enjoying once we shut down the AWL, the GWM World’s Tag Team Champions, The Miracles have issued an open invitation to any tag team in the world for a non-title exhibition match at AWL 220!

While this match is non-title, if the lucky tag team who accepts this challenge were to defeat Miracle 1 and Miracle 2, they would receive an automatic title match on a future date to be determined.

This special offer is first come, first served, so bring it on!

--Miss X

So, two new matches added to AWL 220 on top of an already stacked card.  And it’s only Wednesday!!!

(Editor’s note: We’re ignoring the end of the Tiger Mask W anime for reasons of plot convenience.)

Card for AWL 220 so far.

With only a week to go until AWL 220 and the Season 11 Finale, the card is beginning to take shape.  While it’s highly likely that more matches will be added throughout the week, here’s what we know so far:

AWL 219: Hass vs. American Beetle for the last time!

AWL 219: Hassan vs. American Beetle for the... 投稿者 AWLBoss

Final words from Beetle and Hassan

While it’s not a championship match, tomorrow’s main event is certainly big enough to warrant dedicating this week’s final blog post to comments from the combatants.  But first, some background:

American Beetle and Hassan are both AWL Season Zero Originals with American Beetle having competed on the first match of our broadcast event.  Coming to the AWL from Kaiju Big Battel, he has been a mainstay of the AWL Roster ever since.  While he’s never had the best win-loss record in the world, having survived more than his fair share of Batsumania matches, he’s never failed to impress the fans with his fighting and American Spirits.  Plus, he’s usually good for a laugh.  Such as when he invented his own championship, the United States of Awesome Mega Championship First Belt.

Hassan started his AWL career as part of an international team of wrestlers called the Axis of Equality who were determined to end the Foreign/Gaijin/Racial Minority=Heel trope that has infected professional wrestling since its inception.  An American immigrant, his pride in and love for his adopted home country struck a chord even with the occasionally xenophobic Japanese fans.  The highlights of his career include defeating Vacant for the WWE Intercontinental Championship, getting that belt recognized as the AWL Intercontinental Championship, and being the first man to successfully cash that title in to become AWL Grand Champion.

American Beetle and Hassan became a tag team way back in Season 1 and were two thirds of Team USA in the World Warrior Exhibition along with “Peacemaker” Luke James in Season 2.  They’ve held the AWL World Tag Team Championship 3 times and have wrestled basically every major tag team in AWL history.

But all that changed in November of 2016.  American Beetle has always been the Anthropomorphic Personification of the United States of America, and any massive change in America itself was bound to have an effect of American Beetle.  Suddenly, he developed a taste for tacky gold accessories, lying every other breath, and dirty tactics in the wrestling ring.

The first target of this new and clearly not improved American Beetle was his own partner.  Proclaiming Hassan to be a “Fake American” and demanding he “Take off my flag and get out of my country” (yes, they were both in Japan when this was said).  These statements were accompanied by vicious and unprovoked attacks both in the ring and back stage.  This earned American Beetle a 30-day suspension.  Upon returning, Beetle hired Cage to form “The Great Americans” and

As things stand, American Beetle is LOCKED in the Batsumania Danger Zone and Hassan wants to take this possibly last opportunity to close the book on his history with the Patriotic Pugilist.

With the backstory out of the way, on to the comments from both men.  Hassan this into our office this morning:

I know what happened to the insect who used to be my friend.  I grieve for the good-hearted person that he was.  But I must deal with the man in front of me.  The man who has made this entire season a living hell for me…and the man I’ve beaten every chance I’ve gotten.  Beetle, you can jump me from behind, you can attack me after a match, you can smash me through the Commissioner’s desk, but every time we step into that 20 by 20 foot ring…I’m just better than you!  I always have been and I always will be.  Tomorrow, I’m going to beat you for the last time and then we’re done.  I never want to see that gaudy gold carcass of yours ever again.
            --Hassan

And now (sigh) a tweet from American Beetle:

Liarcriminal @AWLHassan has never beaten me at wrestling.  Towel must b on 2 tight.  RyuSensei is FAKE NEWS.  Worse than Keller.  SAD!

Interview with Frederick Victor

With the Tag Team Gauntlet Match less than 48 hours away, I managed to get on Skype with Frederick Victor of The Empire from his town house in London.  Big Jerry’s flat apparently isn’t set up for high speed internet…somehow.

RyuSensei: Champ, thank you for agreeing to talk to me today.

Frederick Victor: No bother at all my good man.  I assume you wanted to discuss our upcoming championship bout?

R.S.: Yes, sir.  As you know, the challengers for your titles will be determined this weekend in a Tag Team Gauntlet Match, do you have any preferences for a winner?

F.V.: Not as such.  Sadly, the tag team division in the AWL is…rather lackluster at the moment.  I feel we can defeat any team currently on the roster.  However, I encourage all of the teams to give it a jolly good try and earn the privilege of fighting myself and my associate.

R.S.: OK, any teams you would like to see lose?

F.V.: Interesting question.  Of course, as a loyal member of the AWL Roster, I do not wish to see GWM have any more chances to win our championships.  Additionally, I think we’re all just about finished with those little fellows from Mexico.  League Cosmic?  I think that’s what they’re called.  They’ve had their chances.  Time to make way for new blood.

R.S.: We’ll see what happens on Sunday.  While I have you here, I have a couple questions about you and Big Jerry.  First of all, how did you too meet?

F.V.: I placed an advertisement in the papers looking to hire a professional wrestler, he was the most qualified candidate who replied.  Simple business transaction you know.  I believe he was working some…municipal job.  Rubbish collecting, road works, something of that sort.  I offered him the chance to elevate himself and he’s taken advantage of it rather well I’d say.

R.S.: There has been a great deal of criticism of your team over the past year.  Accusations that you “make Jerry do all the work” in your matches.  How would you answer these charges?

F.V.: Absurd!  I suppose it’s not horribly surprising that people who know nothing about the fine art of professional wresting wouldn’t recognize basic strategy when they see it.  You see, ours is a partnership of unequals.  Jerry is my superior in terms of physical power and size, whereas I am his superior in skill and mental prowess.  He does the damage by breaking down our opponents and I finish them off with superior technical wrestling.  A simple strategy, I admit.  But it works splendidly.

R.S.: I doubt that will convince anybody, but that’s all the time we have for today.  Thank you, Frederick Victor, and I’m sure you’ll be watching along with the rest of us on Sunday at AWL 219 as we determine the tag team #1 Contenders in the Tag Team Gauntlet Match.

Full Card for AWL 219.

We still have an episode left before the Season Finale and here is the full card for this weekend’s AWL 219:
MAIN EVENT:
Hassan vs. American Beetle

Tag Team Gauntlet Match
To Be Contested to 3 Points!

Tiger the Great III & Project Tetsu vs. The AWL All Stars
Finale Preview Tag Team Match

Okada Kazuchika & Sylverhawk vs. Yamada Jiro & X-Drone
Finale Preview Tag Team Match

Cage vs. El Rudo Rojo
DANGER ZONE TIE BREAKER MATCH

Well, that must have been the price.  Dr. Jigoku insisting on having one of his auments in a match with the IWGP Heavyweight Champion.  Since the X-Drones have the same copycat ability Wrestler X…did.  This gives them access to one of the best wrestlers in the world today…crap.

I should clarify, wrestlers in other matches on the card ARE eligible to compete in the Tag Team Gauntlet Match.

IWGP Title Match set for AWL 220!!!

After insulting both the champion and the championship itself last weekend, Yamada Jiro has what he wants, an IWGP Heavyweight Championship Match!  The champion, Okada Kazuchika, personally lobbied the IWGP and NJPW officials to make the match happen.  Fresh off the success of New Japan’s first shows in the United States (and Okada’s most recent title defense against “American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes), they have decided that no insult to their promotion can be allowed to stand.  Therefore the following has been officially added to AWL 220:

RAINMAKER Okada Kazuchika (C) vs. Yamada Jiro
IWGP Heavyweight Championship Match
(NOTE: In accordance with IWGP Regulations, this match will have a 60 minute time limit)

Any time we get to work with the undisputed king of Japanese pro wrestling is an honor for the Animated Wrestling League and we look forward to hosting this match at our Season Finale.

THIS JUST IN!  Litterally as I’m typing this, I’ve just been handed an announcement that Ganba has ACCEPTED Dr. Jigoku’s offer to fight Project Tetsu at AWL 220!  But apparently there was some kind of price that Jigoku demanded event to make this lesser match happen.  I don’t have any information about what that price was, but if I find out, I’ll pass it on.

AWL 220:
Ganba vs. Project Tetsu
Special Singles Match

It’s not the fight he wanted, but it’s a chance to strike a blow against the other evil organization plaguing the Animated Wrestling League.

Main Event for AWL 220 confirmed and a challenge has been issued.

It’s official!  We have the main event for AWL 220, the Season 11 Finale:

AWL 220 MAIN EVENT:
“Peacemaker” Luke James (C) vs. Tiger the Great III (IC)
AWL Grand Championship Match
1st Title Defense
IC Title Cash-In
Match to be contested under GWM Rules!

Nothing less than the fate of the Animated Wrestling League is at stake as Luke James will fight to end the threat of GWM once and for all.  However, should he falter, GWM will control the AWL Grand Championship and hence the Animated Wrestling League itself.

In other news, Ganba has issued a formal challenge to Dr. Jigoku for a match with (and I can’t believe I’m about to type this) the Skull Head Killer!!!  That…thing…has never competed in an actual wrestling match.  I spoke to Ganba as soon as I heard the news of the challenge, he said that “Luke is doing his part to protect the AWL, I must do mine also.  That monster has been allowed to pick us off one by one for too long.  I will do what I must to end it.  That’s all!”

Unfortunately, it appears that it isn’t as easy as it looks.  I was able to get the following comment from Dr. Jigoku:

I shall endeavor to use small words so you can understand: If Ganba wants to commit suicide, fine.  But he CAN’T fight…my associate.  If my Augments don’t control a championship it’s almost impossible to…make…him…appear.  Ganba simply isn’t worth the…sacrifices…it would take to give him his little wrestling match.  If he likes, he can fight Project Tetsu.  That’s what it was built for in the first place.  But without a belt, he’s not going to get what he wants.

                --Dr. Jigoku.
