Ganba match announced.

I haven’t wanted to talk about this.  But the AWL Commissioner is making me and he signs the paychecks.  So, here we go.  Last week saw the return of the demon Gisei and the alternate version of Ganba known as Ganba Hisshi Dark.  The last time we saw this…thing…Ganba used it to defeat the Skull Head Killer and banish it from the AWL.  Last week, we saw this demonic alter ego deliver Project-Z its first loss.
But what the hell is this thing?  What dark force has the Japanese Megastar tapped into?  Most importantly, can he turn it off and remain the man the AWL fans have come to know and love?
Hopefully, we'll find out tomorrow at AWL 230: The Long Road.  Because the AWL Commissioner has decided that Ganba will compete in a Fight for 4...against his own tag team partner in the AWL All Stars, The Peacemaker Luke James!

Last Wrestling Podcast 4: 10 Best Belts.

The Quest Continues.

The AWL Tag Team Division needs to find some challengers!  We’ve only had one tag team title match this season and a lot of teams have made it to two points, but nobody has obtained the all-important third.  So, we have two tag team matches so let’s hope these four teams can get it in gear because T49P are looking for a challenge!
Tiger Mask W (1) vs. The Empire (0)

日本よかった (1) vs. Xyberhawx 2000 (0)
That’s right!  Chikara’s retro future trio is back in the
AWL!  I don’t know what combination of the Xyberhawx will compete, but there have to be some surprises in life, don’t there?

Rules of the Test of Ten and a second chance.

The entire AWL office is reeling from the shocking announcement yesterday by Matt Classic Jr.  The Test of Ten is an AWL concept from back in Season 0.  Any wrestler may take the test.  If they win, they may make ANY request of the AWL Commissioner.  However, they must wager something of equal value for the reward they want.
The invoker must defeat 10 opponents.  They are granted three lives.  Lose a match, lose a life, face that opponent again.  Lose all your lives and the test is over.
The level of competition in the AWL is so high that the idea of winning 10 straight matches, even with 3 chances, is almost insane.  For Matt Classic Jr. to want this for himself just shows how much he wants to make up for costing his team with his count out loss.  He wants to give them a second chance.

Speaking of second chances (Dang, nailed that segue!) there is only one slot left in the AWL Joshi Championship Ladder Match.  In the spirit of second chances, we are going to have a triple threat match between three women who haven’t earned their first victory in the Joshi Division:
Yin vs. Spring Tiger vs. Solo Darling
Of course, should any of these three women run the
table and defeat BOTH of their opponents, they will earn two victories and face Usa-Chan the following week for the final chance to become the first AWL Joshi Champion.

Invocation!: Golden Opportunity vs. AWL Contract.

Last weekend was the biggest failure of my career.  I cost my team our two points.  This isn’t new.  I’ve been the weak link in Shin Jidai for months now.  I was the one that talked the others into signing with GWM…that went well, didn’t it?  Then I get myself hurt and leave the team a man short for months.  This count out loss is the last straw.
I need to prove that I have what it takes to be in the AWL.  I need to prove that I’m not just coasting on my dad’s name and fame.  I need to prove that I can help my team and not drag them down.
I’ve looked deep into AWL History and found the perfect solution from WAY back in Season 0…I hereby invoke The Test of TEN!  I request a Golden Opportunity and I risk…my AWL contract!

Two More Matches for AWL 229

新時代 (2) vs. 日本良かった (0)—Points in Play
Wyvern and Matt Classic Jr. look to pick up their third point against Yamada Jiro and Hasaiki of Nippon Yokatta.  We’ve been looking for challengers for T49P’s AWL World Tag Team Championships for over a month now.  Will the second generation stable finally reach that rare and exhausted status?  Or will Yamada Jiro, no doubt angry at being forced to fight a 外人 like Matt Classic Jr., play spoiler?

Big Foot (#3) vs. Cage
Probably the biggest big man match we can present given the current roster.  While we haven’t seen the machine from the 559 in a long time, he is still an active member of the AWL Roster and eligible to knock Big Foot out of the Best 4 and take his place.
Speaking of the AWL Best 4, the AWL Commissioner was unable to find room on this week’s card for a Fight for 4.  I have been assured that we will have such a match next week at AWL 230, though the participants have not been announced (and, I suspect, haven’t been decided yet).
See you this weekend for AWL 229.

A week of news in a day or two.

OK, as you have probably noticed, it's been an interesting real life week here at the Animated Wrestling League.  I learned that almost none of the videos this season weren't being shown on Dailymotion so I've moved back to YouTube and all the seemingly random blocks and take downs that being on YouTube brings with it.

Going forward, this blog will still be the main site for the AWL.  With that said, let's get on with the news:

The AWL Commissioner has had it with Dr. Jigoku and his abuse of the mad sciences.  Therefore, this week will feature a 4-match series of the AWL vs. The Augments!  The matches are:

Ganba vs. Project-Z

After losing to the…reanimated…wrestler formerly known as Jack Butcher, Ganba wants another shot at him.  One thing I’ve learned about The Japanese Megastar over the years, it’s that he always learns from failure and comes back stronger.  We know Project-Z has limits to his endurance, perhaps Ganba will be able to outlast him.

HAKAISHA! vs. Project 2.0 (#2)—Non-Title Match

HAKAISHA! inserted himself into this feud when he attacked Dr. Jigoku after AWL 227.  Infuriated by Jigoku’s desecration of his former friend, The Japanese Destroyer is firmly on Team F*** The Augments.  (No, that will never be a hashtag.)  This is a non-title match, but victory for Project 2.0 would likely result in an increase in rank.

Luke James, Doombunny, & Azteckaizer NEO vs. X-Drone—Trios Match

The fight against the augments has united an odd collection of allies.  The AWL All Stars, The Destroyers of DOOM, and 新時代.  Members of each faction will unite against the hivemind of The Augments.

Dragoness Q vs. KoroshiMACHINE 1

Last but certainly not least, we cannot forget the Joshi Division.  The undefeated Dragoness will represent 新時代 against the fembot of the Augments.  While Dragoness has already qualified for the Joshi Championship Ladder Match at Golden War 2018, KoroshiMACHINE will take a much-needed step towards qualification if she wins.  With only one slot remaining in the ladder match, every match counts!

Further matches may still be announced for AWL 229, please stay tuned to this blog for all the news and information on the Animated Wrestling League.

Champion and Challenger Speak

Both of these messages have been translated into English by the AWL Translation Team.

Azteckaizer NEO:
In the pursuit of Justice, sometimes one must engage in honorable combat with opponents one respects.  That will be the case tomorrow.  HAKAISHA! is one of the best professional wrestlers I have ever encountered.  But there is a darkness coming to the AWL.  Dr. Jigoku’s newest abomination is the first sign.  I’ve known about it for some time.  The only way to stop it is unification.  I believe that means one faction must control all the championships in the AWL.  I have faith in Wyvern and Matt to capture the tag team titles and in Dragoness to become the Joshi Champion.  We are searching for a candidate for Intercontinental Champion, but the linchpin is the AWL Grand Championship.  That will be my job.
No offense HAKAISHA!, but you must be defeated if we all are to survive.

HAKAISHA!:
Project V6 is nearly halfway complete.  But before I address my opponent, I’d like to apologize for my actions last week.  Dr. Jigoku is not a trained wrestler and I shouldn’t have attacked him.  But after seeing what he did to a man who used to be my best friend…I simply could not accept it. I had to confront him.  Even before his death, I’d thought Jack was lost forever.  But, I’d found some peace and understanding in the fact that he’d been given an honorable death.  But now…?
If I can’t get my hands on Jigoku in a fair fight, I will settle for personally dismantling every last one of his machines with my bare hands!  Even if that means ending the perverted half-life of my friend.
But that is for another day.  Now, my focus is on Azteckaizer NEO and defending the AWL Grand Championship.  There are few wrestlers in the AWL that are stronger than me.  Kaizer is one of them.  If this match comes down to pure power, I don’t know which of us will win.  And that’s a good thing!  I love a challenge and I welcome the opportunity to cut loose and show all of you just how strong I really am!!

BREAKING NEWS: In the interest of gender equality, once the
first champion is determined at Golden War 2018, the AWL Joshi Division will use the same Best 4 System as the Grand Championship.  How the first Joshi Best 4 will be decided has yet to be announced.  But we’re still a couple of months away from the Golden War so there’s plenty of time for that.

Double Title Matches Confirmed

I don’t wish to comment on what Dr. Jigoku said yesterday beyond reminding everyone that the opinions expressed by wrestlers and managers on this blog do not necessarily represent the views of The Animated Wrestling League or AWL management.
On to the news.  Coming out of the events of last weekend, two championship matches have been announced for AWL 228.  Hence, we are calling the show AWL 228: Golden Doubles!

HAKAISHA! (C) vs. Azteckaizer NEO (#1)
AWL Grand Championship Match
3rd Title Defense

Doombunny (C) vs. Kid Canada
AWL Intercontinental Championship Match
1st Title Defense

Azteckaizer NEO retained his #1 contendership in the Reshuffle Match and Kid Canada pinned Doombunny in the Champions’ Showcase.  In the AWL, every match matters!

Dr. Jigoku speaks on Project-Z

Project-Z represents a whole new advancement in the mad sciences.  Not since a personal hero of mine, Luigi Galvani, first started experimenting with the reanimation of dead tissue has there been a greater moment in the history of necrology!  A dead man restored to life and made my living weapon!!  Now my Augments are stronger than they have ever been.  As such, we are officially re-entering the AWL Tag Team Division with Project-Z and Project Tetsu 2.0 as my newest and greatest tag team!
Now, as you all saw last weekend, there is the small matter of longevity.  My living weapon cannot wrestle without its maintenance harness but cannot retain its full powers without it for long.  More work needs to be done to minimize both this effect and the bulk of the damned thing.  Still, science is ever advancing!
Why Ganba as my first test subject?  I can already hear the simple minded asking.  Well…I remember.  Oh yes, I remember what he did to my greatest discovery.  Cut down in its prime before its full powers were realized.  The fake wrestling news did bestow upon it the ridiculous nickname “Skull Head Killer.”  But that entity was nothing compared to what I have unlocked.  Still, Ganba has more than earned the beatings he’s received at the hands of my Augments!
Hakaisha!  Don’t think I’ve forgotten about you!!  Lay your primitive hands on me?  HA!  Biggest mistake of your life!  But revenge is a dish best served cold.

AWL 227...finally!

So, I learned how to reduce the file size on the fly.  But that doesn't matter, please enjoy the show.  It's...significant.

Technical Difficulties

Dailymotion is not uploading this week's episode.  Claiming the file is too big.  I'll re-render and try to figure out how to post the show in multiple parts.  Back in season 0, I had to post match by match.  I'd hate to go back to that, but we'll see.

Please stay tuned.

Booking More Than a Few Days Ahead

Unlike some wrestling companies that rebook their shows mid show, we here at the Animated Wrestling League like to be a bit more prepared for that.  On March 18th, the AWL Grand Championship will be defended.  That means this week we will have a 4-way Reshuffle Match.  All for members of the AWL Best 4 will compete in an elimination match.  The order of elimination will determine their rank.  The winner of the final fall will be the #1 Contender and challenge HAKAISHA! for the title on the 18th.  Currently, the Best 4 looks like this:

1. Azteckaizer NEO
2. Hassan
3. Bigfoot
4. Project Tetsu 2.0

The puroresu no hoshi has everything to lose and the others have everything to gain.  Tune in to this very blog this weekend for AWL: 227.

New Augment Confirmed

Not much of a news update today, but I have learned that Dr. Jigoku’s newest Augment (set to debut against Ganba this weekend) is called “Project-Z.”
What the heck does that mean?  Your guess is as good as mine.

Champions' Showcase and some corrections

Before I begin this news post, I must apologize for two MASSIVE errors I made during last weekend’s broadcast.  First, Liga Cosmica actually had 1 point going into their match with Team Victory at AWL 226.  It was incorrectly reported that they had zero.  Of course, since they lost the match they now actually have zero points, but that doesn’t excuse the mistake.  Second, I was wrong about the AWL Best 4.  The AWL Rule Book clearly states that, when there’s more than one vacancy, whoever enters the Best 4 first takes the higher rank.  Therefore, Bigfoot is #3 and Project 2.0 is #4.  I apologize and regret both errors.  I will do everything in my power to keep this from happening again.  Now, on with the news…

The Augments have lost the AWL IC Championship!!  In other good news, the AWL Commissioner has announced that there will be a Champion’s Showcase Match at AWL 227:

Destroyers of DOOM! (Grand & IC Champions) (1) vs. T49P (World Tag Team Champions)
Champion’s Showcase
Points in Play

Yes, the once and current Golden Duo have one point towards title contention, so the AWL World’s Tag Team Champions will have the chance to eliminate a possible set of challengers.  On the other hand, if either member of T49P pins a singles champion, they automatically put themselves in that title picture.

In other news, Ganba lost last weekend.  Last week on
this very blog, Dr. Jigoku promised a new Augment would debut
in these exact circumstances.  We’re waiting for conformation of that match.  Please stay tuned.

Dr. Jigoku Speaks

Tomorrow, that pitiful fool Ganba will fall, again, to my Iron Project.  But I already know what will happen next.  Like the chess master I see the  game 20 or 30 steps ahead.  Ganba will lose tomorrow, but he will not see his obvious inferiority and retire.  Oh no, that contemptible fighting spirit, or stubbornness as intelligent people see it, won’t allow him to do the smart thing.
So, let’s forget about tomorrow, shall we?  Once Ganba loses and is out of the championship picture, his primitive notion of honor will demand some sort of vengeance.  Fortunately, I have a brand new Augment that I’m ready to debut.  So, Ganba, WHEN you lose, I’ll allow you the…heh…honor of facing…Project-Z!
On to more important matters.  My X-
Drone is an unstoppable one man army.  He won the Scramble Match fair and square.  I now control the AWL Intercontinental Championship.  But the old saying, “If it’s not repeatable, it’s not science” is true enough.  So, we’ll repeat the experiment and defeat that ridiculous rabbit a second time.  It doesn’t matter.  With my Iron Project in the Best 4, I’ll have two paths to the top.  Then, it’ll be just a matter of time until I control the AWL Grand Championship again.  Final proof that we are…SUPERIOR!

A New Rule System Because Sore Losers.

And, because I don’t have enough work to do apparently, ANOTHER match has been added to AWL 226.  This message was delivered to AWL HQ last night:
I have come to a conclusion.  My tag team, The Empire, has not fared well this season, nor was I able to capture the Intercontinental Championship last week.  The fault, as my countryman said, lays not in our stars but in ourselves.  I should have seen the situation for what it was.  The problem is not my associate or myself, but in the Animated Wrestling League itself!  This strange hybrid of American and Japanese wrestling rules leaves me at an automatic disadvantage.  Therefore, I am going to educate the AWL as to the way professional wrestling is supposed to be.
This weekend, at AWL 226, I’m bringing back…World of Sport Rules!  5 rounds of 5 minutes with 2 falls, 2 submissions, or a knockout to decide the winner.  Leaving the ring results in disqualification.  Because I know Joey Babaganoush can’t referee such a sophisticated match for very long, I’ll allow the round to end upon a fall.  Joey’s also not that smart or observant, so I’ll even remove the rule that breaking contact on the mat ends the exchange.
Once the AWL fans understand what REAL wrestling
looks like, they’ll be begging for me to be inserted into the Best 4.

Reunions and Returns

It’s been a busy news week in the Animated Wrestling League!  Two more stories have broken in the last 24 hours:

1. Hifumi Ryuji, who made his return to the AWL in last weekend’s IC Title Tournament, has apparently AGREED to team with Chiba Akagi once again as Team Victory!  The AWL Commissioner, reportedly delighted at this news, is currently searching for a pair of opponents for them.

2. In the Joshi division, a true legend will make her return to the Animated Wrestling League.  If the AWL had a Hall of Fame she (or rather they) would be first ballot inductees.  Have I been vague enough?

YIN AND YANG ARE RETURNING TO THE AWL!  Two women from the light and dark sides of the human psyche.  They are Season 0 Originals and the first AWL Tag Team Champions (years before it became a world title).  Yang, the representative of the dark side of the human psych is a former AWL Champion from before the Tokyo Athletic Commission started getting really picky about intergender wrestling.

With the rise of the Joshi Division, these legends are coming out of retirement.  Fortunately, we have a wrestler with experience wrestling women who are coming out of retirement:

Akira Merune vs. Yang w/Yin
