Former Grand Champion to Return at GW17!

Great news wrestling fans!

After not being seen since the New Year’s Tournament, former AWL Grand Champion and Season 0 Original GANBA has been cleared to make his return to the AWL at Golden War 2017!!  Ganba has been on the shelf for the past few months nursing a series of nagging injuries that have built up over his long career.  He will face El Rudo Rojo in his return match at GW17.  But he’s not coming alone.  His friend and tag team partner in The AWL All Stars “Peacemaker” Luke James will also be returning and is set to act as cornerman for Ganba’s match.  Here is a message from the Nashville native for all of you on behalf of Ganba:

Sometimes tha good Lord just allows everything ta fall perfectly inna place.  At the exact time Ganba had ta take some time off ta recover, I had’a return ta the States ta deal with some family business.  Nothing bad.  But still urgent.  And I tell ya what, it took a lot longer than either of us expected to be ready to come back to the AWL.  Well, that’s all in the past and we are ready to come back and give y’all the type of action y’all’ve come to expect from the AWL All Stars.  It starts at The Golden War.  The Japanese Megastar is back and as another Tennessee cowboy used to say, Rojo, SORRY…about yer damn luck!

As for what happens after The Golden War?  Heh, y’all ‘er just gonna haveta wait and see, let me just say that the old school still has some old business ta finish!

--Luke James.

Two Title Matches for Golden War 17

Much of the focus of Golden War 2017 has been on the Kyuukyoku Summit (and understandably so considering the unprecedented nature of 8 champions competing in one tournament), but it’s important to remember that there will be other matches on this show (that’s what makes it a Super Card after all)  so today I’m here to confirm that there will be two championships defended during Golden Week:
The Empire (C) vs. The Menagerie (3)
AWL World Tag Team Championship Match
1st Title Defense

Tiger Mask II (C) vs. Sylverhawk
AWL Intercontinental Championship Match
4th Title Defense

For those who have not been following the AWL or the wider world in independent wrestling, the Space Monkey lost his Chikara Young Lion’s Cup over Wrestlemania weekend to Wani but this in no way revokes his invitation to compete in the AWL and Sylverhawk pinned Tiger Mask II in a tag team match several weeks ago to earn an IC title shot.

Two titles AND a Golden Opportunity will be on the line at AWL Super Card—Golden War 2017!  Don’t miss it!!

News dump

GWM Press Release:

Last weekend GWM SHOCKED the Wrestling World when our GWM World’s Heavyweight Champion made his first ever appearance in the AWL defeating former AWL Grand and Intercontinental Champion Tanaka Kenichi in mere minutes.

At The Golden War 2017, the GWM Universe will be on hand as The Third takes his rightful place atop The Kyuukyoku Summit!

--Miss X

OK folks, RyuSensei here.  You just read the press release from GWM manager Miss X.  Funny how she didn’t mention El Caracas’ loss last weekend, isn’t it?  Well, either way, we now know all 8 champions who will compete in the Kyuukyoku Summit Tournament for a Golden Opportunity at Golden War 2017.

Therefore, I can now reveal the bracket and match-ups for the first round of this unique tournament:

Match 1: Juan Francisco de Coranado (Chikara) vs. Wrestler X (AWL)
Match 2: Johnny Mundo (Lucha Underground) vs. Christopher Daniels (RoH)
Match 3: Okada Kazuchika (NJPW/IWGP) vs. Texano Jr. (AAA)
Match 4: Drew Galloway (WCPW)* vs. The Third (GWM)

All matches were decided by random draw.  Matches in the first and second round will be contested under 15 and 20 minute time limits respectively.  The final match will have NO TIME LIMIT.  In the event of a time limit draw, BOTH wrestlers will be eliminated from the tournament.
It all goes down during our AWL Super Card—Golden Week 2017!

*Recently, WCPW General Manager Plumpy went on YouTube saying that WCPW had two remaining dates with Drew Galloway before he becomes a full time NXT talent.  That wasn’t exactly true.  They had 3 dates with Drew and we here at the AWL offer our most sincere thanks to them for giving us one of those three dates for this tournament.

Full Card for AWL 211

AWL 211 is tomorrow wrestling fans, so here’s the full and final card:

AWL 211:
MAIN EVENT
Wrestler X (C) vs. Hassan (#1)
AWL Grand Championship Match
1st Title Defense
STEEL CAGE MATCH

The Menagerie (2) vs. The Augments (X-Drones) (2)
Points in Play
Winners Challenge The Empire at The Golden War 2017

Kid Canada vs. Mr. Smiles
Rematch

XyberhawkX2000 (1) vs. Team GWM (1)
Points in Play

Project Tetsu vs. Tiny (#3)

Now some comments from the champion and challenger in the steel cage main event for the AWL Grand Championship:

Hassan: I’ve been waiting nearly 4 months for this title match.  American Beetle kept standing between me and my shot.  Now, finally, he and that meathead he hired are out of the way.  Same for Dr. Jigoku’s freak show.  I admit, I wanted to wrestle Sammy.  He and I are friends and I know we’d have one hell of a match.  But this is about something more than me.  This is about more than becoming the first two time Grand Champion.  This is about who represents the AWL in the Kyuukyoku Summit.  Who will be the face of this promotion that the world will see at the Golden War.  I’ve been wrestling in the AWL since almost the very beginning.  From Season Zero and my days in the Axis of Equality to…to my years teaming with American Beetle, to becoming the first AWL Intercontinental Champion, to being the first to cash that belt in and become Grand Champion.  If anyone on this roster should be representing the AWL, it should be me, not some damn robot!

Dr. Jigoku: A cage match is such a…primitive concept.  Animals fighting over scraps of food or a mate.  Not worth my time.  Nor, for that matter, is Hassan.  Wrestler X will dispatch him with ease and then we can move on to more important matters, such as the Tag Team Titles and the Kyuukyoku Summit.  Now begone!  I have more important things to do than talk to some peon.

Friday, April 21, 2017

Yay for reactions!

OK folks, following American Beetle’s obviously threatening tweet yesterday, the AWL Commissioner has decided that the Grand Championship Match between Hassan & Wrestler X at AWL 211 will be A Steel Cage Match!

This will hopefully keep EVERYONE but the champion and challenger out of the match.  The Augments, Cage, American Beetle, whoever.

Speaking of The Augments, today we also learned that Project Tetsu will face Tiny in the opening contest of AWL 211.  I’ll have the final card and some comments from the participants in the main event tomorrow so stay tuned to the AWL!

Who lets him tweet!!!!?????

The Failing AWL wants to give #titleshot to CRIMINAL Hassan?  Lame!  Will #MAGA at AWL 211.
--American Beetle

More Matches for AWL 211

After last weekend’s #1 Contender Match, we have the main event for AWL 211:

Wrestler X (C) vs. Hassan (#1)
AWL Grand Championship Match
1st Title Defense

AWL 211 is the last show before The Golden War 2017, so this will be the last chance to ensure that an AWL Wrestler and not one of Dr. Jigoku’s monsters represents the AWL in the Kyuukyoku Summit.  Can Hassan defeat his doppleganger and become the first EVER two time AWL Grand Champion?  Tune in this weekend to find out.

But that’s not all for The Augment’s at AWL 211.  While the Kyuukyoku Summit will be the main event, we will have a Tag Team Championship Match at AWL Super Card: Golden War 2017.  So, obviously, we need to find some challengers.  Fortunately, there are currently 2 teams with 2 points each.  I think you can all guess what that means:

The Menagerie (2) vs. The Augments (X-Drones) (2)
Points in Play

The winners of this match will face The Empire at The Golden War 2017 for the AWL World’s Tag Team Championships.

Lastly, and mainly to keep him busy, Project Tetsu will compete in singles action against an opponent yet to be named.

3 More Champions Announced!

Golden War 2017 is going to be a truly international event.  Here are three more champions that the AWL Commissioner has signed for the Kyuukyoku Summit:

5. Lucha Underground Champion: Johnny Mundo.

6. AAA Mega Champion: Texano Jr.

7. WCPW Champion: Drew Galloway.

As always, these names are subject to change in the event of title changes between now and the Golden War.  In the event that Drew Galloway is unable to appear due to his commitments to WWE and NXT, a suitable replacement will be found.

Rematches confirmed and denied.

After what I think we can safely retroactively rename AWL 210 FUBAR-Mania, one rematch has been signed and one has been denied.

As I announced during the broadcast, due to a serious error by the referee, a rematch between The Most Canadian Man in the World and The Happiest Man in Wrestling is set for AWL 211:

AWL 211
Kid Canada vs. Mr. Smiles

On the other side of the coin, the AWL Commissioner has denied a request by Miss X to grant Yellow Devil a rematch for the AWL IC Title.  The reason being that we already have a number one contender in Sylverhawk who is due the next title match.  However, the Commissioner did not rule out the possibility of a rematch as Tiger Mask II’s 5th and final title defense (if he survives the challenge of Sylverhawk).

That’s the emergency news for now.  But check back tomorrow because I should have the next champions who will compete in the Kyuukyoku Summit.

Tiger Mask II Speaks

This message has been translated into English by the AWL Translation Team.

This Sunday I have a match against Yellow Devil.  Well, I have a match against A Yellow Devil.  You see, one of the reasons Global Wrestling Monopoly hates the Tiger Mask Dynasty is that we know a lot of their secrets.  From their training techniques to their management style.  And one of their favorite tricks is to replace their masked wrestlers every so often.  This Yellow Devil is not only not the original, he’s probably the 4th or 5th man to wear that mask this year!

Now, I’ve had many names in my AWL career, not all of which I’m proud of, but at my heart I have always been a Tiger.  That means I’m a warrior who fights to their last breath to not only win championships, but to defend my little corner of the wrestling world from the forces of evil.  So, I don’t care who’s under that mask, you’re just another stepping stone on my path to the AWL Grand Championship and defeating GWM once and for all.

Dr. Jigoku Speaks

I am a man of SCIENCE.  Bound to the rational, logical, and empirical.  Yet, I must confess, I am by no means immune to the chemical imbalances lesser beings call emotions.  And I will gladly admit to watching you FOOLS sputter and spurt like a leaky faucet at my newest creations.  The X-Drone series is composed primarily of my personally developed nano-technology which allows me to copy and replicate as many X-Drones as I need for any given situation.  In this case, the perfect one man tag team.  Of course, they are programmed with the same analytical technology as Wrestler X making them a walking encyclopedia of tag team wrestling.

Speaking of MY champion, with the AWL Grand Championship back in my control, the connections have been restored and I will once again be able to revel in the obsolescence of my enemies!  So come “Best 4,” come and be damned! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!

--Dr. Jigoku.

Commissioner's Weekly Address

Good evening ladies and gentlemen, I am the AWL Commissioner.

With the Ultimate Summit less that one month away, I have NO intention of allowing one of Dr. Jigoku’s monsters to represent the Animated Wrestling League on the world stage.  Therefore, I am COMMISSIONING a #1 Contender’s Match between all four members of the AWL Best 4 this weekend at AWL 210 with the winner to face Wrestler X for the Animated Wrestling League Grand Championship the following week at AWL 211.

Yes, you heard me correctly, I did not misspeak nor did my secretary mistype.  I said all four.  That’s because Hassan, Jack Butcher, and Tiny will be joined by the winner of the opening contest of AWL 210:

Frederick Victor vs. HAKAISHA!

The co-holder of the Animated Wrestling League Tag Team Championship of the World holds a pinfall victory over then Animated Wrestling League Grand Champion Sammy Nix.  Whereas the Japanese Destroyer has the best Win-Loss Record of any active competitor not currently in the Best 4.

While it may seem unfair to ask the winner of this bout to compete twice in one evening, if you want to be a champion, you must EARN the opportunity.

THIS!  I have COMMISSIONED!!!!!!!!!  BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

--XOXO AWL Commissioner.

Fall out from AWL 209

Ok AWL Fans, there’s a lot to go over today so let’s get to it.  First of all, we have NEW AWL World’s Tag Team Champions: The Empire.  This changing of the guard seems like an excellent chance to take a look at the Tag Team Division…By The Numbers!  (Imagine a cool echo effect there please.)

Current Champions: The Empire (Frederick Victor & Big Jerry) since 4/9/17.
Length of Reign: 2 days.
Title Defenses: 0

3-Point System:
3 Points: None.

1 Point: Shin Jidai (Matt Classic Jr./Azteckaizer NEO), XyberhawX2000 (Nyte Hawk/Sylver Hawk), The Augments (X-Drones)
All other teams have 0 points.

Moving on to other news, after the #1 Contender’s match at AWL 209, we have a championship main event for next weekend:
AWL 210
MAIN EVENT:
Tiger Mask II (C) vs. Yellow Devil (GWM)
AWL Intercontinental Championship Match
3rd Title Defense

Lastly today, the AWL Commissioner has announced the next two champions who will join Wrestler X and Juan Francisco de Coranado in the Ultimate Summit Tournament as AWL Supercard: Golden War 2017:

3. IWGP Heavyweight Champion: “Rainmaker” Okada Kazuchika.

4. ROH World Champion: “The Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels.

The top title in Japan and one of the most respected titles of the 21st century join the tournament.  This is going to be GOOD!

A new experiment begins.

We here at AWL HQ have, unfortunately, received another message from Dr. Jikoku:

Science is the eternal march of progress away from the obsolescence of the past.  Last week my super computer, Experiment 00X successfully brought the AWL Grand Championship to our organization.  However, the essence of the scientific method is repeat-ability.  Therefore!  This week my NEWEST experiments shall enter the laboratory known as the AWL Ring and the method shall be tested in the team division.
--Dr. Jikoku

Thursday, April 6, 2017

You probably saw this one coming.

Yet another match has been signed for AWL 209.  Last weekend Tanaka Kenichi responded to the handshake of friendship…exactly as you’d expect a punk like Tanaka Kenichi to respond to the handshake of friendship.  With a cheap shot and some gimmick infringement.

The AWL Commissioner has decided that these two should settle things in the ring.  And, I suspect, the boss would love the idea of the man with one of the worst win-loss records in the AWL beating Tanaka Kenichi…then again, we all enjoy it when ANYONE beats up Tanaka Kenichi.  So…

AWL 209

THUGLIFE田中健一 vs. Mr. Smiles

Commissioner's Weekly Address

Good evening ladies and gentlemen.  It has been a fascinating week around the Wrestling World. And the excitement shall continue through the month of April into May and our annual spring Super Card: The Golden War!

Previously, I released the name of my latest project, as part of my plan to open the doors of the Animated Wrestling League to more talent from the wider world of professional wrestling.  To wit, I have COMMISSIONED the 究極のサミット or Kyuukyoku no Summit.  A one night, 8 man tournament to take place at the GOLDEN WAR in just under 4 weeks.

In a format thus far only dreamed about in the back pages of wrestling magazines, this tournament shall be composed entirely of THE TOP SINGLES CHAMPIONS from all over the Independent Wrestling World!!  They shall bring their belts and the honor of their home promotions to the AWL Arena.  While no titles will be on the line, pride most certainly shall be…as will a GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY!

Details are still being worked out, but I can announce the first two champions who will attempt to climb the ultimate summit:

1. AWL Grand Champion: Wrestler X.

2. Chikara Grand Champion: Juan Francisco de Coronado.

Please note, that it is the championship that earns a ticket to the Golden War.  If ANY champion announced loses their title between now and Golden Week, they shall be instantly dis-invited and the new champion shall replace them.

Please stay tuned over the next several weeks as more champions are added to the Golden War and the 究極のサミット.

THIS!  I have COMMISSIONED!!!!!  BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Massive News Update

OK, the Animated Wrestling League is reeling form the new of the last 48 hours across the wrestling world.  Possibly the most significant comes from outside the AWL.  We may or may not have more on that as things progress.

As for the Animated Wrestling League, the biggest story coming out of AWL 208 is that we have a NEW AWL Grand Champion: Wrestler X.

It may be fair to say that dark days have returned to the AWL.  The last time one of Dr. Jigoku's Augments held the most coveted prize in animated wrestling, it was nothing less than death for more than half a dozen AWL Wrestlers.  We have not seen the Skull Head Killer since Project Tetsu lost the title to Chiba Akagi, will it return now that The Augments control the title?  We shall have to see.

Also at AWL 208, The Empire earned their 3rd point over The Great Americans meaning that, for the first time this season, the AWL World Tag Team Titles will be defended next weekend at AWL 209:
AWL 209:
Liga Cosmica (C) vs. The Empire (2)
AWL World's Tag Team Championship Match
1st Title Defense

Finally, the AWL Commissioner has announced that there will be a face off between the two men who earned their way into the intercontinental title picture to determine who gets the first crack at Tiger Mask II for the gold:
Sylverhawk (力) vs. Yellow Devil (GWM)
Intercontinental #1 Contender's Match
I think this will be the first time in AWL History that wrestlers from two outside companies will compete for the right to challenge for an AWL championship.

That's all I have for today.  Tomorrow the AWL Commissioner has promised a major update on The Golden War 2017.
