Final Promos' Champions and Challengers

With 4 title matches on tomorrow’s card, it didn7t seem right to offer the final posting before the big show to one set of champion and challenger.  So, here are all the men and women set to defend their championships at AWL 240, and the opponents who try to take those championships away from them.  All comments have been translated as needed by the AWL Translation Team.

Grand Championship:

Hakaisha:
I hate wrestling giants.  When I wrestle a giant, my entire game plan must change.  I’m not a technical wrestler, I’m certainly not a high flyer, and I’ve never had the stomach for hardcore.  I throw people around and hit them until they stay down.  That is SO much more difficult with someone bigger than me.
Big Foot is the only wrestler in the AWL bigger than Project Tetsu.  The fact that I beat Tetsu twice means nothing.  If I want to complete the V6 Project, I will need to dig deeper than I ever have before in my life.  I can do it, but I’m going to hurt like hell tomorrow.

Big Foot:
I’m hungry.  After the match, I’m gonna eat steak!

Joshi Championship:

Akira Merune:
Some say the belt makes the champion, but I say the champion makes the belt.  Becoming the first AWL Joshi Champion was an amazing experience that validated my decision to become a professional wrestler in the first place.  But now I have a great responsibility on my shoulders.  I have to prove to the world that the AWL Joshi Championship is the most prestigious women’s title in the world.  That means I HAVE to have a long title reign against the best wrestlers in the world.  That way, whoever beats me for this title some day will have won something worth winning.
Usa-chan, I can’t imagine what’s going through your mind right now.  But it doesn’t matter.  One title defense is nowhere near enough for this championship.  So, I have no choice but to make you tap out.

Usa-chan:
I hate this.  I should be the defending champion.  I should be the one making all the publicity appearances, getting all the speaking gigs, and making all the money.  But NOOOOOOO!  I had to be little miss fancy and go for the big top rope tackle into the ladder.
At AWL 240 I get to fix that mistake.  I get to silence all 234 of my cousins who have been mocking me endlessly since Golden War.  I am not a joke!  I am a champion!  Now, I get to prove it!!

Tag Team Championship:

Tiger Mask W:
Spring Tiger: The reunification of the Tiger School is proceeding perfectly.  The current incarnations of the Golden Tiger and Black Tiger Schools have come together as tag team champions.  Now, another pair of challengers have appeared before them.
We are happy T49P have earned 3 points.  Beating them a second time will go a long way toward proving that the Unified Tiger School has a real future.  So, Hassan, Kid Canada, we welcome the challenge!

T49P:
Hassan: 3 points in 2 months!  3!  Points!  In!  2!  Months!!  That just doesn’t happen in the AWL, but we did it.  That should tell you just how determined we are to get back our tag team titles.  We got screwed over by the whole GWM disaster.  We barely got to defend those belts like a proper championship team.
Everything is on our side and we’re coming across the boarder for that AWL World Tag Team Titles!

Intercontinental Championship:

Doombunny:
                I’lladmitit.  YoubeatmeinthatWorldofSportRulesMatch.  ButI’vebeeninthevideovaulteversincewatchingeveryWoSmatchinhistory.  I’vegotyoufiguredoutandatAWL240it’llbe3downand2togo!

Fredrick Victor:
A common hare thinks he can best me in the pugilistic arts?  We all know that to be a farce.  I have beaten him once, I can do it again.  I doubt it’ll take me all 5 rounds to end this façade and become the new AWL Intercontinental Champion.
Once I’m the champion, ALL IC Title Matches will be conducted under a civilized system of competition.

LWP7: NJPW Dominion 2018

Luke James Speaks

Ah love my job.  Ah really do.  Ah mean, how many people get ta be pro athletes?  An’ how many of those pro athletes get ta say they’ve been the world champion of their sport?  Not that darn many, that’s who!
Even with all of that, my career in the AWL has been a string of losses.  Ah lost the Grand Championship to GWM.  Ah lost my best friend and tag team partner to injury.  Ah lost so many matches I’ve been in and out of the Danger Zone for years.  Heck, Ah even lost the trios tournament that I debuted in!
But now, Ah’m lookin down the barrel of a gun.  I’m losing another friend.  This time Ah’m losing him to dark magic.  Ah’m no wizard.  Ah’m just a simple Christian boy from Nashville.  Ah honestly have no idea what I’m looking at when Ah look at Ganba Hisshi Dark.  But Ah know that man used to be my friend.  And Ah believe in my heart of hearts that he still is.
This Sunday…Ah will find my friend.

Jigoku whines and Ma-Ji-Ku celebrates.

THIS IS INTOLLERABLE!  Not only are my Augments cheated out of their rightful tag team title match, they are now expected to fight three unknown wrestlers?  ABSERD!  Has that fool of a commissioner never heard of controlling for variables?  How can I possible apply the scientific message to a match where I don’t even know who the opponent will be?  Rest assured that there will be official complaints filed over this!
--Dr. Jigoku

(Translated from the original Spanish by the AWL Translation Team)
AWL 240 will be the happiest day of my career.  For the first time in my life, I get to be in a tag team with my son!  As much respect and love as I have for El Santo Azul, this is family.  My boy has been training both under me and under Dragon at the AWL Dojo for years.  Now he’s not only leapt straight into the Best 4, he’s going to stand by my side as we take out Nippon Yokkata.  Son, it’s time to show the world your Shining legacy!

Comments from the Danger Zone

Yesterday, the final card was announced for AWL 240: Season 12 Finale.  It will be a massive show with 8 matches announced including all 4 AWL Championships on the line.  It will be a night of gold, grudges, debuts, and destruction.  But, it will also be one man’s last night in the AWL.  With AWL 239 firmly behind us, we know the four unlucky wrestlers who must enter BATSUMANIA!

Tanaka Kenichi vs. Cage vs. Yamada Jiro vs. Mr. Smiles
BATSUMANIA!

All 4 men will begin in the ring.  The first man to win a fall will return to the locker room with his job intact.  The remaining three will wrestle to the next fall.  The winner leaves the arena in safety.  The loser of the 3rd and final fall will be immediately FIRED from the Animated Wrestling League.
There will be no count outs and no disqualifications.  All falls must take place inside the AWL Ring.

I caught up with the four unfortunates to get their thoughts on entering this potentially life altering match:

Tanaka Kenichi: Me am daijoubu.  Many many batsumania daijoubu.  Last is besto!  I am cool.  You am fuck!

Cage: Look, I don’t really give a damn about the AWL.  It’s a paycheck for me.  I got business in The Temple.  I need to get my property back from a certain hunter with a death wish.  These three AWL losers will be a good warm up.

Yamada Jiro:  (Translated from Japanese) My life does not matter.  If I fall in battle, sempai will take over control of Nippon Yokkata.  I do not plan to lose.  After all, the only other Japanese in the match is that degenerate Tanaka Kenichi.  But if the gaijin find a way to cheat, my legacy in the AWL is assured.

Mr. Smiles: This is awesome!!  First match on the show.  The first thing the fans get to see.  Plus, it’s a no DQ match so I really get to cut loose and show everybody what I’m capable of.  Even better, I get to beat up Tanaka Kenichi and that will make everyone in the arena happy!  What’s not to love?

Last Wrestling Podcast Episode 6: NJPW Customs and Traditions.

The Last Wrestling Podcast returns with an introduction to New Japan Pro Wrestling and the unique customs that make it one of the top and most Japanese wrestling promotion.

Shin Jidai Speaks

The following Message was translated from the original Japanese by the AWL Translation Team.
Matt’s always been a bit strange, but he’s a good man and a great friend.  When he decided to invoke the Test of Ten, we thought he was nuts.  But we were also confident in his abilities.  We didn’t even mind when he told us not to accompany him to ringside for his matches.  “I have to do this myself” is Classic Matt…pun very much intended.
But now he’s down to one life.  He’s career is on the line.  Neo and I are NOT going to abandon him in his hour of need.  We won’t help him win of course, but we can show him and the world that the new generation is all about teamwork and comradery.  We WILL be there when Matt Classic Jr. beats Estrella Dorada to continue the Test of 10.

Full Card for AWL 238

AWL 238: The Gathering Storm is just 24 hours away!  Here is the full card with significant Season Finale implications:
MAIN EVENT
The Augments (2) vs. T49P (1)
2 Point/20 Minute Match
The fall out from last weekend’s time limit draw.  No matter who wins this match, that team will have at least 3 points, all they need to challenge for the AWL World Tag Team Championships at AWL 240.

The Golden Duo (0) vs. Big Time Thug S (0)
Points in Play
At the Season 12 Finale, HAKAISHA will defend his AWL Grand Championship against Big Foot one on one.  In the finest tradition of professional wrestling promotion, we’re sticking the champion and challenger in a tag team match to build anticipation for the big singles match.  It may be cliché, but at least we’re honest about it.

Nippon Yokkata vs. Ma-Ji-Ku, El Hijo del Ma-Ji-Ku, Eruption Solar, & Chiba Akagi
Atomicos Match
Yesterday’s news of Yamada Jiro expanding the ranks of Nippon Yokkata to include Hifumi Ryuji and the Fake Liger has given the AWL Commissioner a brilliant (if somewhat obvious) idea.  Ma-Ji-Ku will finally get to wrestle alongside his son against his hated rival Fake Liger.  Additionally, Chiba Akagi will have the chance to get his hands on the tag team partner who left him high and dry in the Tag Team Gauntlet.

Luke James (#2) vs. John Hero
While awaiting an answer from Ganba regarding his challenge for AWL 240, “Peacemaker” Luke James gets his hands on the man he and Ganba were forced to carry during their Global Wrestling Monopoly days.

Matt Classic Jr. (OOX) vs. Estrella Dorada
Test of Ten Match #7
Last week, it was Cage.  This week, Matt Classic Jr. must wrestle a man who’s made a habit of manhandling men two to three times his size in recent months.  As the Test of Ten reaches it’s climax, the opponents are only going to get tougher.  With only two lives left, can Matt Classic Jr. go the distance and earn a Golden Opportunity?

Another Recruitment Drive

The following message has, under protest, been translated from the original Japanese by the AWL Translation Team.
If those gaijin loving freaks calling themselves “All Stars” can recruit new members, then so can we!  It is with pride that I unveil the newest members of Nippon Yokkata.
First, an excellent example of Japanese superiority in all fighting sports, the Prince of the Pinfall, Ryuji Hifumi.  Now that he has cast off that weak Yokohama weirdo, he can finally join a proper Japanese team.  His technical skill will perfectly compliment my own traditional Strong Style.
Second, and I must admit to some unprofessionalism here.  We are overjoyed to welcome the man who actually made me want to be a professional wrestler in the first place.  He is not only the newest member of Nippon Yokkata, he is mentor and sempai to us all…Jushin Thunder Liger!!!
Ryuji-senshu, Liger-sempai, welcome to the team.  Let’s all get along from now on.
--Yamada Jiro
