Message from the AWL Commissioner

Good evening ladies and gentlemen. I am the AWL Commissioner. While it is my foremost responsibility to remain strictly neutral in adjudicating the rules of the Animated Wrestling League, it is with admitted pleasure that I hand down the following decision.

As you most assuredly know, Crisis Gundan defeated The Technicos for the Animated Wrestling League World Tag Team Championships.  This match was not without controversy.  There are claims that Sammy Nix never tapped out to the camel clutch, but the referee says Mr. Nix was clearly knocked out and that his body had quit for him.  While this is unfortunate, the referee's decision is final.  Crisis Gundan are the World Tag Team Champions.  However, this leaves us in an unusual situation in the Tag Team Division.

When The Technicos defeated Big & Spicy at AWL 88 to become AWL World Tag Team Champions, they went into the bout with an unprecedented 5 Points. It costs 3 Points to challenge for the championship. In the Chikara 3-Point system (Upon which the AWL system is based), becoming champions reduces your point total to zero.

The AWL is NOT Chikara (sadly). It is my ruling that challenging for and winning the AWL World Tag Team Championship costs 3 Points, but that former champions will retain any excess points they have when they inevitably lose the titles.  Therefore, The Technicos still have 2 Points and shall have the opportunity to obtain a 3rd this weekend at AWL 94.

THIS. I HAVE COMMISSIONED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Well, it's looking less and less likely that these 4 will escape the Danger Zone. For every 1 step forward, they take one step back. Now, it's important to remember that the brothers El Santo Azul and El Rudo Rojo have qualified for Video Cybernetico III. If one of them wins, they will become #1 Contender to the AWL World Light Heavyweight Championship and thus be immune from Batsumania.  In which case, one of the two men on the bubble will fall into the abyss.   So it's still all to play for between now and AWL 100. However, if any wrestler coughTanakaKenichicough become mathematically trapped in the Danger Zone, you'd better believe I'll let you know about it right here.

Announcement for the Light Heavyweight Division.

AWL 100, the Season 5 Finale is 2 months away. As usual, all three AWL Championships will be defended at the finale. In order to prepare the best matches possible, the AWL Commissioner has decided to reach deep into his bag of tricks and has pulled out a rare match not seen in the AWL since Season 3: Video Cybernetico!

For those of you not familiar with how a Cibernetico Match works, its origins can be found in Lucha Libre and has been brought to America by (who else?) Chikara. In the AWL version, 6 men compete. They begin in an elimination Trios Match. If there is more than one survivor on the winning team, allies become enemies as the match moves to a 3-way match or one on one match until there is only one winner remaining. That winner will go on to AWL 100 to challenge Ma-Ji-Ku for the AWL World Light Heavyweight Championship.

Beginning this week at AWL 93, there will be six qualifying matches to determine who enters Video Cybernetico III. They are (in no particular order):

1. Tiger Mask
2. Shin Tora
3. American Beetle
4. Curry Man
5. Mike Quackenbush
6. El Santo Azul
7. El Rudo Rojo
8. Super Giant
9. Kid Canada (If he makes weight)
10. X
11. X
12. X

As you can see, there are some unknown competitors in that list. I have heard exclusively from the AWL Commissioner's office that 2 of those Xs belong to brand new wrestlers making their AWL debuts. The other refers to (and this is a direct quote) "A champion of champions."

The first two qualifiers will take place this weekend at AWL 93.

Post AWL 92 Danger Zone Rankings

Well, it looks like the events of AWL 92 cleared up some of the confusion regarding Batsumania III.  We have gone from 6 to 4 men who are now at risk of losing their jobs:
Wrestler
     Win
    Loss
   Total
田中健一
5
-16
-11

El Santo Azul
16
-26
-10

El Rudo Rojo
15
-23
-8

Luke James
9
-17
-8

It's interesting that 3 of these four are the same men who survived Batsumania II last season.  The brother formerly known as The Free Fighters (El Santo Azul & El Rudo Rojo) plus THUGLIFE 田中健一 have been in this position before.  The only newcomer is "Peacemaker" Luke James.

HOWEVER, all this could change at the drop of a hat.  Remember, champions and #1 contenders are immune from Batsumania and both El Rudo Rojo and Luke James are one win away from escaping the Danger Zone.

With that in mind, tune in tomorrow for an announcement that will shake up both Batsumania & AWL 100.

AWL 92 投稿者 AWLBoss

Please forgive me, I think I have a mild case of bronchitis and my throat was killing me during the recording session for this match.  I'm pretty sure it came through at a few point.  Please enjoy the show, we have some great wrestling tonight and an ending that might surprise you.

Promo time!

We're less than 48 hours from the AWL World Heavyweight Championship being defended at AW 92. It's set to be Skill vs. Power as Ganba goes one on one with Wolf. In accordance with AWL custom, here now comments from both the champion and challenger.

Ganba (Translated into English for your convenience):
Wolf is not a champion. Wolf is an animal. The AWL World Heavyweight Championship belongs to the best wrestler in the world. Today, that is me. Someday I will lose this championship, but I will never surrender to a mindless animal. This Sunday, I will use every technique at my disposal to bring this dog to heel. いつも頑張ります!!

Return of the Danger Zone

AWL 90 is in the books, that means we only have 10 weeks until AWL 100. The Season 5 Finale will also mark the return of Batsumania! Yes, the dreaded elimination match were the 4 AWL Wrestlers with the worst win-loss records fight to save their jobs! Already Batsumania has claimed the careers of Maglubiyet Jr and "Boxing Bastard" Bruce Hoyt. Who will be the next to fall?

As part of the countdown to AWL 100, we're going to start updating you regularly on who is currently in the Batsumania Danger Zone:

1. "Peacemaker" Luke James 8-16 Total: -8
2. El Rudo Rojo 14-22 Total: -8
3. El Santo Azul 16-25 Total: -9
4. THUGLIFE田中健一 5-15 Total: -10

Fortunately for them, these four men will be given opportunities over the next couple of months to either win their way to safety, or condemn themselves by their own hands.

Message from the Commissioner's office.

And now, a message from the boss:

Good evening ladies and gentlemen. I am the AWL Commissioner. I am coming before you tonight, via this electronic communications medium, to mete out a little justice around the Animated Wrestling League.

First, I must address the heinous and inexcusable actions of Wolf. His attack upon the Animated Wrestling League's World Heavyweight Champion were completely uncalled for and he shall be punished. Wolf will compete in a match at AWL 91 and, should he lose, his #1 rank in the AWL Best 4 shall be forfeit!!

Also, as their are currently two vacancies in the AWL Best 4, it is my duty to fill them. First, considering the extraordinary circumstances surrounding last week's world heavyweight championship match I have seen fit to bend the rules and reinstitute "Big" Ben Nelson into the AWL Best 4!

AWL Best 4:
1. Wolf
2. "Lightning" Mike Quackenbush
3. ????
4. "Big" Ben Nelson
The third place shall be filled by the winner of the first ever Fight for 3 Match at AWL 91. Naturally, I consulted the AWL win-loss records to determine who had the best record among all those not currently in the Best 4 or holding a championship.

Unfortunately, the name that kept coming up was . . . . . Wonder Kid.

So, as much as it pains me to do so, Wonder Kid shall compete in the Fight for 3. Never let it be said that wins and losses don't matter in the Animated Wrestling League!! However, I have personally selected an opponent for Wonder Kid. Someone who I believe will serve as a . . . . . bit of a surprize for our former champion. And that is all I shall say on the matter.

Lastly, in the main event of AWL 91, Tiger Mask shall have his well earned title match against the AWL World Light Heavyweight Champion: Ma-Ji-Ku!

THIS, I HAVE COMMISSIONED!!! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!

Information overload!

Well, this is interesting. The good news is that the good folk over at Sacred Heart Local Medical Facility have NOT cleared "Big" Ben Nelson for full competition . . . sort of. While he appears to have suffered no serious effects from his concussion, his shoulder and ribs are still in bad shape. Competing in the AWL ring would, in the opinion of the doctors, run a serious risk of aggravating the injury. However, they have decided to leave the choice up to Ben and the AWL Commissioner.

The following is a statement from the Commissioner's office:

While it is my personal preference to always defer to the opinions of trained and licensed medical professionals in any matter related to the health and safety of the wrestlers under my charge, I have decided to make an exception in this case. Mr. Nelson and I spoke at length yesterday and I believe fully understand his feelings. I offered to postpone the match, but Mr. Nelson would not hear of it. He would far rather I bend my personal policy than break the rules of the AWL (Editors note: According to the AWL Rulebook, any wrestler who fails to appear for a scheduled match is considered to be the loser by forfeit) for him. I also fully believe that he understands the risks involved. Additionally, knowing the personalities, temperaments, and lack of a personal grudge between them, I trust both Ben Nelson and Ganba to act professionally. While I expect that, like all AWL Wrestlers, they will do everything in their power to win the match, they are professional enough to neither try to permanently injure each other nor end the other's career. Therefore, the AWL World Heavyweight Championship Match at AWL 90 will go on as scheduled!

THIS, I HAVE COMMISSIONED!!!! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

We work for a crazy person. Then again, what wrestler doesn't?

With that decided, we have very little time before the big match tomorrow so let's get some official comments from both the champion and the challenger. As always, in deference to the title, the AWL World's Heavyweight Champion will have the first word (for the sake of clarity, Ganba is speaking through an translator):

First, I have nothing but respect for Ben Nelson. To show such determination to fight past his limits is truly the mark of a man. He may be a foreigner, but he understands the Japanese fighting spirit. I'm sure he will do his best in our match tomorrow. But so will I. I am the AWL World Heavyweight Champion. It is my duty to defend this belt with all my power. To do otherwise would be an insult to the title, the warriors who fight in that ring, and the fans who pay their hard earned money to watch us. Tomorrow Nelson, we will compete to see who is the best. We will both do our best. 俺たちは二人に頑張りましょう!

And now some words from the challenger. These comments were transcribed at Ben Nelson's temporary home in Tokyo immediately after he received word of the AWL Commissioner's decision. At this time, he had not heard Ganba's statement.

This is bloody brilliant! I've been floating around that sodding Best 4 list for MONTHS! I finally get my title shot and some wanker in a halloween costume jumps me from behind and nearly breaks my head. Trust me, no one's heard the last of that. I'm going to find that black masked shagface and beat him the bloody hell out of him. But that's for another day. Tomorrow, I'm going to walk into that arena, step into that ring, and give Ganba the fight of my life. Yes, I'm hurt. Yes, he's one of the best champions the AWL's ever had. Yes, there's a good chance I'm going to lose. But I can promise you that I'm going to not going down without a ****ing fight!

Well, with that settled, here's the full card for tomorrow:

Main Event:
Ganba (C) vs. "Big" Ben Nelson
AWL World Heavyweight Championship Match.

Super Giant vs. Tiger Mask
Light Heavyweight #1 Contender's Match

Wrestler X vs. Kid Canada

Wolf vs. Joe Obber

Big & Spicy (0) vs. Wonder Kid & Jack "Breakdown" Butcher (0)
Points on the Line!

Finally, some good news.

I have good news and bad news. The good news is that Ben Nelson is awake, lucid, and communicating. While Sacred Heart LMF doesn't usually allow non-family visitors at times like this, I've been told that The AWL Commissioner himself has been to the hospital several times over the last couple of days and has spoken to Ben about the incident.

That's where the bad news comes in. According to my sources in the Commissioner's office, Ben said that he WAS attacked, but that he didn't see the face of his attacker. He said their was only one, a man, tall, heavily muscled, wearing all black and a mask Ben's never seen before. The police have said that this is not enough to identify a suspect, and without the security camera footage, they don't think they're ever going to be able to find who did this. As you might imagine, the Commissioner is several different flavors of pissed off and has apparently sworn vengeance on who ever did this to one of his wrestlers.

The investigation is on going. I'll have more for you as I get it. Also, I'm hoping to get the card for AWL 90 tomorrow. Please stay tuned.
