Preview of Golden War 2015!

Sorry for the delay in this week's blog posts ladies and gents. But we wanted to make sure everything was on the up and up before we made any announcements. This Sunday is the next AWL Super Card: Golden War 2015! All the titles are up for grabs including, for the first time ever, outside championships! Both the IWGP Heavyweight Championship and the Lucha Underground Championship will be defended in an AWL ring. The only non-title match will be the Light Heavyweight Battle Royal to determine who challenges (ugh!) Super Giant later that very night. Without further ado, here is the card with a few new vital details:

AWL Super Card:
Golden War 2015!

Main Event:
HAKAISHA! (C) vs. Tiger Mask II (#1)
AWL World Heavyweight Championship Match
3rd Title Defense

AWL All Stars (C) vs. Crisis Gundan (3)
AWL World Tag Team Championship Match
3rd Title Defense
After successfully retaining their titles last week, we now know that Dragon & Luke James will have to make AWL history and defend their championships twice in as many weeks. They face former champions and cheating bas***ds Crisis Gundan. Speaking of whom...
Super Giant (C) vs. TBD
AWL World Light Heavyweight Championship Match
1st Title Defense
Super Giant will have to wrestle twice in one evening. We here at the AWL try to avoid this, but that's what you get when you want to fight for more than one title at a time. We will likely place both the Tag Title Match and the Battle Royal early in the show to give both champion and challenger the chance to rest and recuperate before this match.

AJ Styles (C) vs. "Lightning" Mike Quackenbush
IWGP Heavyweight Championship Match
New Japan Rules
A WHOLE lot of negotiation had to happen for this match to be signed. One of the stipulations laid down by NJPW was that the match had to be contested under their rule system. That means a whopping 60 minute time limit and a 20 count on the outside of the ring. Additionally, the rest of Bullet Club is barred from the building. Lastly, the Mike Quackenbush that will compete in this match is a version of The Master of 1000 Holds that was pulled out of an earlier point in his own timeline (it's Chikara, that kind of stuff happens) before his nagging injuries forced him to retire from in-ring competition. The modern day version of the DOF will likely have no memories of this experience.

Prince Puma (C) vs. Ma-Ji-Ku
Lucha Underground Championship Match
2 out of 3 Falls
After successfully defending his Lucha Underground Title less than 24 hours ago in The Temple (By the way Drago, if you're looking for a job...), Prince Puma has to get on a plane and fly halfway around the world to defend it yet again. Such is the life of a champion. Dario Cueto agreed to this match to get more publicity for his Temple and Konnan agreed to this match because he knows that it's a good idea for a young luchador to travel the world perfecting his craft. Furthermore, out of respect for Lucha Libre tradition, Konnan has demanded that this be a 2 out of 3 falls match. The AWL Commissioner was quick to agree. Dario insisted that the AWL Commissioner find some "worthy competition for my champion." Again, the boss was all too happy to comply. Prince Puma will face the top luchador in the AWL, the man who held the Light Heavyweight Title for more than 600 days, Ma-Ji-Ku.

DOOMBUNNY vs. Strike Taka vs. El Santo Azul vs. El Rudo Rojo
Light Heavyweight #1 Contender's Battle Royal
A lot going on in this match. First of all, there are no automatic rematches in the AWL. So even though DOOMBUNNY got screwed out of the title, he still has to earn a title shot. Strike Taka has long been Dr. Jigoku's least favorite of his Augments. Golden War 2015 is a chance for the long limbed luchador to prove himself to his creator. And as for El Santo Azul and El Rudo Rojo, the brothers have recently come to blows yet again. Now they get a chance to do so again...and get paid for it this time!

All the action takes place at AWL Super Card: Golden War 2015. Be there...or have a damn good excuse why you weren't!

Tag Team Promos

AWL tradition dictates that we give an open forum to both champion and challenger before all title matches. Last week we were un able to do so due to scheduling conflicts, but we managed to make it work this time. Thankfully, Dr. Jigoku has elected to speak on behalf of Yamada Jiro and Project Tetsu:

This Sunday at AWL 134, the Jiro experiment will be completed. When Yamada-san came to me months ago with all his talk about being genetically SUPERIOR...I conceived of this experiment. QUESTION: Can the allegedly SUPERIOR Japanese genetics of Yamada Jiro form a successful duo with one of my Augments? Thus far, the results have been promising, but inconclusive. This weekend, the final repetition before I publish my findings.

See, this is why you shouldn't let mad scientists into professional wrestling, just saying. Now the defending AWL World Tag Team Champions, Dragon & Luke James:

Luke James: This weekend, we're fighting a man down. Ya see. We all know Dr. Jigoku will be at ringside with that cyborg freak of his. Normally we'd have the Japanese Mega Star in our corner to balance things out, but last week Bullet Club got to him and before we knew what hit us, we he was out of it. And by it, I mean action. Ganba's on the injured list and will be for at least a couple of weeks.

Dragon: But that's not going to stop us. Bullet Club will pay for their crimes, make no mistake about that, but right now we get Jiro and Tetsu. Jiro, you have a problem with foreigners you racist jackwang? You think you're so damn superior to us? Well I say that's a load of garbage and if you two want to prove us wrong, shut your traps and get in the ring so we can settle this like pros. We worked, and trained, and fought for these titles and you're going to need every drop of your so called "superiority" to take them from us!

Luke James: See ya Sunday boys!

Good news and great news!

After all the bad news of the last few days, I'm happy to report some good news and some GREAT news! We'll start with the good. We have the full card for AWL 134:
Main Event
AWL All Stars (C) vs. Yamada Jiro & Project Tetsu (3)
AWL World Tag Team Championship Match
2nd Title Defense

DOOMBUNNY vs. Jack Butcher
Grudge Match
Debut of New Referee

Wonder Kid vs. Vacant

Tiger Mask II (#1) vs. Kid Canada (#2)
Rank on the Line

Curry Man vs. Jon Shina vs. El Rudo Rojo vs. American Beetle
4-Way Match

And yes, you read that right. Wonder Kid will return to action for the first time in weeks. The AWL Commissioner has heard his cry for more competition and has booked a living legend in VACANT to be that competition.

But that's just the good news, here's the great news:

MAY 2ND, 2015!
AWL Super Card:
GOLDEN WAR 2015!!
THAT'S RIGHT! The AWL is bringing back the Super Card!! We haven't done one of these since Season 1. Super Cards will be mega shows that will not be counted under the regular numbering system and will take place roughly 5 times a year. Currently scheduled are:

May 2nd: Golden War 2015.

Mid August: Obon-nanza 2015.

Mid Fall: Tag Matsuri 2015.

Early January: New Year's Tournament 2016.

Early February: National Pro Wrestling Day 2017.

Most of these shows will feature a theme of some sort and in 2 weeks at Golden War 2015: ALL THE TITLES WILL BE ON THE LINE:
GOLDEN WAR 2015!:

Main Event
HAKAISHA (C) vs. Tiger Mask II or Kid Canada
AWL World Heavyweight Championship Match
3rd Title Defense

???? vs. Crisis Gundan (4)
AWL World Tag Team Championship Match
3rd or 1st Title Defense

Super Giant (C) (Yes, he has to wrestle twice) vs. ????
AWL World Light Heavyweight Championship Match
1st Title Defense

Light Heavyweight #1 Contender's Battle Royal
Winner faces Super Giant for the title.

But THAT'S NOT ALL! For the first time ever, outside titles will be defended in the AWL! The AWL has cleared this with both Dario Cueto and Sugabayashi Naoki-san of New Japan Pro Wrestling:
AJ Styles (C) vs. "Lightning" Mike Quackenbush
IWGP Heavyweight Title Match

Prince Puma (C) (Should he still hold the title) vs. Ma-Ji-Ku
Lucha Underground Championship Match
2 out of 3 Falls Match

Yeah, it's going to be awesome!

The boss is pissed!

He's pissed! You knew he was going to be pissed. I mean who wouldn't be after that son of a...

OK. Here's what happened. Last weekend at AWL 133, Jack Butcher blatently interfered in the AWL World Light Heavyweight Title Match between DOOMBUNNY & Super Giant. And I mean BLATANTLY! He actually entered the ring and broke up a pinfall that would have almost certainly would have allowed DOOMBUNNY to retain the title. And what's worse, Senior Official Joey Babaghanoush (of the famous Babaghanoush Wrestling Family) didn't disqualify Super Giant for outside interference. About a minute later, Super Giant would go on to win the AWL World Light Heavyweight Title.

It's been a LONG time since I've seen the AWL Commissioner this angry. Frankly, Joey is lucky to still have his job. Here are the important details coming out of the meeting between the AWL Commissioner and our senior official:

1. Joey still has his job, but is on probation. He will officiate a World Tag Team Title Match this weekend and the Commissioner will evaluate the situation from there.

2. Not even the AWL Commissioner has the authority to overturn a referee's decision, not even a bad one. So Super Giant is the new AWL World's Light Heavyweight Champion.

3. (And I'm kind of burying the lead here), the AWL Commissioner has hired a new referee!!! This new ref's job will be to handle grudge matches that the Commissioner fears have gotten out of hand. He will debut at AWL 134 to officiate a grudge match between Jack Butcher and the DOOMBUNNY!

4. No number one contender has been named in the light heavyweight division. The AWL has a policy of "No automatic rematches" and we're sticking to that.

So, after all that bad news, I'll be back tomorrow with some good news (and it's a whopper!).

Open mouth, insert foot.

In a move right up there in the "I told you so" hall of fame, Bullet Club has become even more insufferable since their man Bad Luck Fale won Video Cybernetico IV. Check out this message we just got into the office this morning:

You knew it, we knew it, and the American people knew it (and aren't they the only ones who count?)!! We destroyed the so-called AWL All Stars! And, now The Underboss, Bad Luck Fale, has a GUARANTEED title shot! Yeah, AJ wanted that shot, but it doesn't matter. The title is coming to the family. BLF (as we and only we are allowed to call him) is going to be the next AWL World's Champion and there is nothing anyone, not even that old codger of a commissioner can do jack about it! Bullet Club is the best thing going. Bullet Club is invincable, Bullet Club is tooooo sweeeeet!!!!

There's an old story about pride going before a fall and the AWL Commissioner didn't take kindly to that "old codger" crack and has booked the following match to hopefully show "BLF" (and I don't care if you say I can't call him that) that he isn't as good as he thinks he is:
Bad Luck Fale (#4) vs. Ganba (#3)
As always when two ranked wrestlers fight, rank is on the line. BLF can not be reduced in rank, but he can move up and Ganba can fall down. The title picture may shift this weekend so check out all the action at AWL 133!

Commissioner's Weekly Address

Hey there wrestling fans, RyuSensei here ready to begin yet another week of AWL supplementary material!! Video Cybernetico IV is behind us and it's time to focus on the light heavyweight championship. The Commissioner will explain in his weekly address:

Good evening ladies and gentlemen. I am the AWL Commissioner. First of all, my honest and only slightly reluctant congratulations to Bad Luck Fale for winning Video Cybernetico IV. He is now the #4 contender to the AWL World's Heavyweight Championship.

But this week's broadcast will focus on the light heavyweight division as Super Giant will challenge the DOOMBUNNY for the title in the main event. Super Giant is a former AWL Lt. Hvwt. Champion and defeated American Beetle to earn this honor.

Additionally, an application has recently been submitted to me to authorize the formation of a brand new tag team. Obviously, I would not have mentioned this if I hadn't approved the request. So at AWL 133, we will see the debut of the team of Tiger Mask II & Prince Puma: El Neko Grande!

Finally tonight, I wish to comment on the AWL Wrestler known as El Rudo Rojo. His recent comments about "the system" being slanted against him amuse me. A man who has made his career on cheating wished to talk to me about fairness? HA! The system is only unfair to perennial losers like yourself Rudo boy. But it it's matches you want, I'll see if I can squeeze you in.....in a few weeks.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

--XOXO AWL Commissioner.

Wow. RyuSensei here again and I must say that I've never seen the AWL Commissioner be that...biased against a particular wrestler. Normally, if someone asks the boss for more competition, he is quick to reply. Now, none of us like El Rudo Rojo, but this may be taking it too far. I'll be back tomorrow with more news from the Animated Wrestling League.

First Danger Zone update of the season.

Yes, it's that time of the season again. We are roughly 2 months away from the Season 7 Finale. That means that Batsumania is looming on the horizon once more. For those of you who may not have seen one of our season finales before, the 4 AWL Wrestlers with the lowest win-loss ratios compete in a 4-way elimination match. However, it is the winner of each fall that leaves the ring and the loser of the final fall is FIRED.

As of AWL 131 the four lowest ranked wrestlers (know as The Danger Zone) are:

Wrestler
           Win
          Loss
         Total
El Rudo Rojo
20
-34
-14
American Beetle
30
-40
-10
Jon Shina

-8

Curry Man

-27
-7
El Santo Azul
32
-39
-7
Luke James
17
-24
-7
Tiger Mask II
23
-30
-7

Obviously this includes a 4-way tie for the 4th slot (though Luke James, as AWL Tag Team Champion, is immune from the Danger Zone). With 8 events left until the zone is locked, that's more than enough time to sort things out.

Let's talk tag teams.

Yesterday we heard from the teams who will compete in Video Cybernetico IV. Today we hear from the two tag teams who will compete in the 20 Minute/3 Point Match. First, in deference to the championships, the Golden Duo:

DOOMBUNNY: Peanutbutterandjelly! Chocolateandbananas!! Baconandeggs!!! Somethingsjustworktogetherperfectly! Inourcasethat'sspeedandpower!! MeandHAKAISHAaretheultimatetagteam. (At this point, DOOMBUNNY ran off.)

HAKAISHA:早いすぎる。彼の英語を分かりません。

And now, some words from Crisis Gundan:

Jack Butcher: Bugger off!

OK then. Interesting words from both teams...technically.

Not sure if the WWE thing is true.

This weekend we will have a match so rare that we give it Roman numerals. Video Cybernetico IV! I was able to catch up with both teams at the AWL Dojo and got the following comments:

AWL All Stars:
Dragon: As far as we're concerned, this is a one phase match. This is all about defeating Bullet Club and hopefully running them out of the AWL for good. Whichever one of us wins Phase 2, I don't care, anyone of us would be worthy of the AWL World Heavyweight Title.

Luke James: Hang on bro. You've been the champion and so has Ganba. But I've never even really gotten close. This match is a HUGE opportunity for me and my career. I'm with you guys 100% when it comes to taking out those bullet punks, but when we hit Phase 2, I'm doing whatever it takes to win.

Ganba: それはいいです。Bullet Clubは俺たちの敵、でも最後まで皆は頑張ています。

Dragon: What he said.

Bullet Club:
A.J. Styles: A green guy, a cowboy, and a male model? Seriously? That's the best this pathetic little company can throw at us? Do they know who we are? We're &%*#ing Bullet Club! We're the biggest thing in wrestling. We're so big WWE has started banning our shirts from their shows. Why, because there &%$#ing scared of us!

Karl Anderson: Dat's right champ. I'mma tell you exactly who we are. This! Is Bad Luck Fale, the toughest mother &%$#er in Tonga and easily the best hardcore wrestler in the world. Me? I'm the Machine Gun, the best tag team wrestler Japan has ever seen! And A.J.? Yeah, like you need me to tell you who A.J. &%$#ing Styles is. But for the especially stupid out there, he is the IWGP Heavyweight Champion.

A.J. Styles: Two time!

Karl Anderson: Yeah, the two time IWGP Champion. You kids think you can hang with the real men? HA! Rat-a-tat-tat! You're dead!!
Bad Luck Fale: Snort.

A.J. Styles: Yeah, you tell 'em big guys. And also for the truly stupid, let me give you a little history lesson. AWL 96, Video Cybernetico III. Anyone remember who won that match? Anyone? No? ME! I DID!! And I went on to a sold out Tokyo Dome to become the AWL Light Heavyweight Champion! This weekend, history repeats.

Commissioner's Weekly Address

Good evening ladies and gentlemen. I am the AWL Commissioner. I have often said that Quality trumps Quantity in professional wrestling. That is why I have COMMISSIONED a mere two matches for AWL 132. But these are matches of significant significance.

First, as previously announced, the AWL All Stars (Dragon, Ganba, & Luke James) will face Bullet Club (A.J. Styles, Bad Luck Fale, & Karl Anderson) in Video Cybernetico IV. A quick refresher on the rules:
1. Two teams of 3 compete.
2. The 1st Phase of the match is an elimination trios match. There is no batting order.
3. If the winning team has more that one survivor, they move on to Phase 2 (also known as The Match Beyond) where they will compete with each other in a 3-way and/or 1 on 1 match.
4. There can be only one winner.

The stakes could not be higher. Not only will the pride of these two factions be on the line, only the sole survivor will be credited with a win in the AWL Win-Loss Rankings. Even more importantly, the sole survivor will enter the AWL Best 4.....AND CAN NOT BE REDUCED IN RANK!

Second, after the events of last weekend's tag team main event, I have wasted no time in COMMISSIONING yet another rematch between Crisis Gundan and The Golden Duo. This time, the match will have a 20 minute time limit and there will be 3 points at stake making this a defacto #1 Contender's Match. If there is yet another draw.....Well I'm sure I'll come up with something.

--XOXO AWL Commissioner.

Saturday, April 4, 2015

Guess it's just me this week.

Hey wrestling fans, RyuSensei here and I am actually the only one here at AWL HQ because everyone else ran off to San Francisco last weekend and they still aren't back yet.  Fortunately, I am here to bring you the full card for AWL 131 that the Commissioner approved by scribbling it on the back of a bar napkin, taking a picture of it with his cell phone, and e-mailing it to me.

Main Event
Golden Duo (2) vs. Crisis Gundan (1)
2 Point/15 Minute Match

The New Classics (0) vs. 山田二郎&Project鉄(1)
2 Point/15 Minute Match

Masters of the Mask (0) vs. Big & Spicy (0)

Super Giant vs. American Beetle
Light Heavyweight #1 Contender's Match

Only a 4 match card this week (it was a small napkin) but lots of tag team action and the possibility of not one, but TWO teams earning their 3rd point.  Tune in tomorrow for AWL 131!
