A championship match, the possibility of a team earning 3 points, and...probably a squash match.  But those are in style again, right?

Commissioner's response to Ma-Ji-Ku.

Good evening ladies and gentlemen, I am the AWL Commissioner.

Ma-Ji-Ku, no.  You shall NOT receive a Grudge Match with the Augments.  While I share your desire to get to the bottom of this mystery.  I shall NOT commission such a thing on such circumstantial evidence.  In the few hours since we have posted your claims, I have received many messages from Dr. Jigoku angrily proclaiming his innocence.  He has threatened to sue the AWL over his issue and we can't have that at the moment.

However, the argument Ma-Ji-Ku makes is at least somewhat compelling.  Therefore I am barring Dr. Jigoku and all Augments from the AWL Arena for AWL 182.  According to Dr. Jigoku, all Augments contain a transmitter that allows Jigoku to keep tabs on his creations.  In an effort to prove his innocence, Dr. Jigoku has willing turned this technology over to Chronos Security.  All entrances to the AWL Arena shall be equipped with Augment detectors to prevent any of Dr. Jigoku's creations from entering the building.  We shall see how this goes moving forward.

Who done it?

The following message was delivered to AWL HQ yesterday, it is presented without comment:

I know who did it.  The man responsible for the two men who have had their necks broken and their careers ended is DOCTOR JIGOKU!!

Who else could make a monster like that skull faced demon?  Who else has a grudge against Strike Taka?  For that matter, George Fraser gets his first win against an Augment and he gets attacked?  That can't be a coincidence!

I know it's circumstantial evidence, but I truly believe I'm right. But I need more information.  So I am going to beat an answer out of one of the Augments.  Commissioner, make the match and take away the rules.  Grudge Match!

AWL Commissioner's Announcement

Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am the AWL Commissioner.  And it  is my great pleasure to announce what shall be a defining feature of the tenth season of the Animated Wrestling League.  Ever since the inception of the league, I have had one cardinal rule: All forms and styles of professional wrestling are welcome here!  But the time has come to see which form is the best and in the world of professional wrestling we can do this in only one way:

The AWL Clash of Styles Tournament!

An 8-Man round robin tournament featuring Representatives of the following styles:

1. Lucha Libre

2. Technical Wrestling

3. Powerhouse Wrestling

4. Strong Style

5. Hardcore Wrestling

6. Brawling

7. Specialization

8. Tiger Style

The CoS Tournament shall be scored thusly:

2 points for a win.

1 point each for a draw.

0 points for a loss.

(All matches contested to a 10 minute time limit)

The two men with the highest scores (after any necessary tie breakers) shall meet at AWL 200 in the CoS Final.  The winner shall receive:

1. The title of "Ultimate Master of The Ultimate Style of Professional Wrestling."

2. A \100,000,000 cash prize.

3. A Golden Opportunity!

(For those of you who do not follow Chikara, this means an open contract for any match, any time, any place, any title, any stipulation.)

It should be a fantastic tournament!  The first two matches to determine the first two Representatives shall take place this Sunday at Obon-Nanza.

Main Event and one night tournament for AWL Supercard--Obon-nanza 2016!

It's been a crazy and tragic week.  But you know the old saying, the show must go on and this weekend is one of the biggest events in the AWL calendar, Obon-nanza.  As such, the main event is obvious:

RAINMAKER オカダカズチカ (C) vs. "Suplex Master" Sammy Nix (#1)

AWL Grand Championship Match

2nd Title Defense

While it is unusual for the AWL Grand Champion to be asked to defend his championship on two consecutive shows, but that's just how the calendar falls this year.  This match should be interesting.  Okada is still deeply entrenched in the G-1 Climax tournament in New Japan Pro Wrestling, and Sammy Nix has been a tag team wrestler his entire career.  Two men who like to hit very hard, but with opposite philosophies Sammy Nix knows how to hit you with a thousand different suplexes whereas Okada focuses his entire offense around a single technique, the Rainmaker Lariat.  These two ideas will be tested in the crucible of combat at Obon-nanza!

Now this leads to a bit of a problem.  Right now, the AWL Best 4 looks like this:

And after Obon-nanza, Sammy Nix will be out of the Best 4 one way or the other.  So we will have three holes in the Best 4.  Obviously, that is unacceptable so the AWL Commissioner has decided to hold a one night trios tournament!

That's 4 matches between the main event and the trios tournament, but I have it on good authority that the AWL Commissioner has one more HUGE announcement to make...but I'll let him make it himself tomorrow.

Official Statement

Before I begin, I apologize for the communications blackout since last Sunday but obviously this is a sensitive matter and needed to be handled with the utmost delicacy and care.

It is my sad duty to inform you that due to injuries sustained to his neck in an unprovoked attack, the AWL Wrestler known as George Fraser has been forced to permanently retire from active competition.

On behalf of everyone here at the we offer our condolences to the Fraser family at this difficult time.

While the identity of the attacker is unknown, the proper authorities have been notified and the AWL is fully cooperating with the investigation.

We here at the Animated Wrestling League intend to resume normal business operations as soon as possible and the Obon-nanza 2016 even is still scheduled to take place and will be broadcast this Sunday in our regular time slot.

Hard to believe we've made it to our TENTH season, but we have.  Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to the Animated Wrestling League!!!  Now a little behind the scenes info.  I'm using both a new capture system and a new video editor to make this so there are going to be some hiccups as I sort out settings and such over the next couple of shows.  Also, I lost access to ALL of the old footage so you're going to see a stripped down opening sequence for a bit.  Hopefully that will be improved as the season goes on.

Last bit of news before I leave you to enjoy the show.  The next episode of the AWL will be our annual AWL SUPERCARD-- Obon-nanza 2016!  More details on that show on the coming days.

What's in a Name?

Mere hours before AWL 181 and the beginning of Season 10 are due to air, I have received the following message from Curry Man:

While I had hopped to get some information on why Curry Man,I'm sorry, Curry Man SPICY, attacked his long time tag team partner at the end of last season, this is still newsworthy.

That's right, the Animated Wrestling League is BACK!  This coming SUNDAY AWL 181 will air on Dailymotion and right here on AWL Wrestling on blog spot.  Our NEW AWL Grand Champion Okada will defend his championship against #1 Contender Chiba Akagi, singles action, tag team action, and even an anything goes Grudge Match!
