Grand Champion Set for Action!

This match just added for this weekend’s AWL 309:

Jigoku DESTROY vs. “Technical Wizard” Lee Masters
Non-Title Match

With the cybernetic monstrosity of Dr. Jigoku set to defend the AWL Grand Championship against “Suplex Master” Sammy Nix in just over a week, this is a perfect warm up match and you can bet the #1 contender will be at ringside in his partner’s corner.  Anything could happen at AWL 309!

Matches announced for AWL 309!

As we work to get back to normal around here, the road to Sakuramania Wrestlegenesis.  Two title matches already scheduled and hopefully a third to be added after the main event of this weekend’s go home show:

The Augments (2) vs. Sekai-gun (2)
Points in Play

Two new tag teams are set to make their debuts this weekend in preparation for the Supercard on April 1st.

Solar Wings (0) vs. CrossXGeneration (0)
Points in Play
CrossXGeneration is a brand new tag team consisting of Chiba Akagi and MATT CLASSIC SR.!!  The oldest and youngest members of the New Classics, hence the name.  The Solar Wings lost their debut match last week, so this will be a chance to make up for lost time.

The Flying Yukis (0) vs. K & K (0)
Points in Play
After coming up short against the Augments in the 2 point match at AWL 308, the Flying Yukis are looking to take the first step back up the ladder.  Across the ring making their debut as a tag team, K & K which stands for Kenichi and…KOBAYASHI!
Yes, that’s where Kyojin Kobayashi got that suit last week.  He’s the latest giant to sign on with Tanaka Kenichi as hired muscle.  It’s the same mistake that Big Foot made years ago, but it’s his career to screw up.
Last match announcement for today might be a first time ever match, it certainly is a first for the Joshi Division.

The Queens of Wrestling vs. UKGen2 & ResuPINK
2 on 3 Handicap Match
Handicap matches are RARE in the Animated Wrestling
League as it goes against the AWL Commissioner’s philosophy of fundamental fairness.  However, this match gives us the chance to see not only the champion and challenger in the upcoming AWL Joshi Championship match face each other, but the two women who will fight each other in the first ever 30-Minute Iron Woman Match so I guess the ends justify the means.  I hope.

HUGE Match Signed for Sakuramania Wrestlegenesis (We mean it this time)

I completely understand if you don’t trust me after last week’s debacle, but this time I mean it when I say a huge match.  At least in terms of time.

Akira Merune vs. Jessica Kidd
30 Minute Iron Woman Match!

While we have had Iron Man Matches in the past, this will be the first Iron Woman Match in AWL History.  The rules are simple.  Pinfall, submission, ring out, and DQ score points.  Most points at the end of 30 minutes wins.  This match will count as ONE victory in the ALW Win-Loss Records.  Otherwise things could become even more skewed than they already are.
That means the card for Sakuramania Wrestlegenesis currently stands at:

MAIN EVENT
Jigoku DESTROY (C) vs. Sammy Nix (1)
AWL Grand Championship Match
2nd Title defense

Dragoness (C) vs. ResuPINK (#1)
AWL Joshi Championship Match
2nd Title Defense

Jessica Kidd vs. Akira Merune
30-Minute Iron Woman Match

Takamichi Shin vs. Satoshi Tobu
AWL Dojo Graduation Match

I told you there'd be a video this weekend!  The road to Sakuramania Wrestlegenesis continues as we find a #1 Contender to challenge Jigoku DESTROY at the Supercard in just 2 weeks!

Grand Championship Promos

In accordance with AWL custom, we turn this final blog post before an AWL Grand Championship Match over to the champion and challenger for their comments.  First the champion’s camp:

Dr. Jigoku (Speaking on behalf of Jigoku DESTROY):
I said my piece two days ago.  This whole thing is a waste of my time.  Go away!

Tiger Mask II:
I’m not going to waste this opportunity to speak to the AWL fans.  I know we seem to be in the darkest possible timeline.  But it’s vital to cling to hope in troubled times.  That’s what the Tiger Mask Dynasty has always stood for.  Hope.
Tomorrow, I step into the ring with despair personified.  With a once great hero brought low by the forces of evil, the man he was destroyed.  I don’t know what’s going to happen once that bell rings, but I will do everything in my power to hold back the darkness.  But I can’t hold back the darkness alone, none of us can.  That’s why I know my team will be behind me.  That’s the difference, Jikogu has creations and slaves.  I have friends.

Full Card for AWL 307

With all the craziness surrounding the main event, it’s easy to forget that we have a full show happening this weekend.  Here is the full card for AWL 307:

MAIN EVENT
Jigoku DESTROY (C) vs. Tiger Mask II (#1)
AWL Grand Championship Match
1st Title Defense

The Augments (0) vs. The Flying Yukis (0)
Points in Play
As mentioned by the bad doctor yesterday, his quest to control all the gold in the AWL Championships will continue this weekend as Project Tetsu and Project-Z go for their first point against the most recent AWL World’s Tag Team Champions.

Purosentai Resuranger (0) vs. The Queens of Wrestling (0)
Points in Play
Last weekend, ResuPINK ran the table and became #1 contender for Dragoness’ AWL Joshi Championship.  This weekend, it’s tag team preview time and points are on the line!

Nekomusume (#3) vs. Jessica Kidd
Continuing in the Joshi Division, Jessica Kidd impressed everyone by going to a 5 round scoreless draw with Akira Merune in a World of Sport Rules match last weekend.  At AWL 307, the second generation British wrestling star gets her shot at a member of the AWL Best 4.  While rank is not explicitly on the line, an unranked wrestler defeating a ranked wrestler ALWAYS has consequences.

THUGLIFE Tanaka Kenichi vs. Kyoujin Kobayashi
And hopefully a little asshole gets beaten up by a very tall man.

Dr. Jikoku Responds to Grand Championship Announcemenr

I don’t care where and I don’t care when!  My Destroyer will turn that kitty cat into kibble.  Yes, Tiger the Great III was a magnificent specimen and I obtained a great deal of data from my time in GWM, but the tiger style has never impressed me.  It is INFERIOR!  Tiger Mask II, you have only hastened your own extinction!
This weekend not only will my Destroyer make his first of many defenses of the Grand Championship, my other Augments will win their 1st point on their way towards bringing me the AWL World’s Tag Team Titles!

BREAKING NEWS!

This just in!  Tiger Mask II has contacted the AWL and DEMANDED that his AWL Grand Championship match be moved to THIS WEEKEND at AWL 307!

Jigoku DESTROY (C) vs. Tiger Mask II (#1)
AWL Grand Championship Match
1st Title Defense

I reached out to the Unified School of the Tiger Style and got the following comment (Translated from the original Japanese):

Taking the Grand Championship back from Dr Jigoku is too important to wait for a Supercard.  I invoke my right as #1 contender to challenge for the belt as soon as possible!  This isn’t about a Supercard paycheck, this is about what’s right.
--Tiger Mask II

It looks like it’s official.  Please disregard yesterday’s new post, the Grand Championship Match is set for this weekend!

Two Matches Signed for Sakuramania Wrestlegenesis 2020!

The main event of our spring Supercard was decided last weekend at AWL 306:

Jigoku DESTROY (C) vs. Tiger Mask II (#1)
AWL Grand Championship Match
1st Title Defense

We have to stop Dr. Jigoku from taking over all the championships of the Animated Wrestling League.  The man who defeated Tiger the Great III to become the final Global Wrestling Monopoly Heavyweight Champion sounds like just the cat for the job.

On the complete opposite end of the card, the AWL Commissioner has heard from Dragon, head trainer at the AWL Dojo and 1st AWL Champion, that he has two students ready to move up to the main AWL Roster.  Overjoyed at this news, the AWL Commissioner has approved the following for Sakuramania Wrestlegenesis:

Takamichi Shin vs. Satoshi Tobu
AWL Dojo Graduation Match

It’s been a while since we’ve had a Graduation Match, so
I’ll go over the rules.  1 fall, 10 minute time limit.  The winner
graduates from the dojo and becomes a full time AWL Wrestler.  The loser returns to the dojo for further training.  They may or may not get a second chance in the future.  In the event of a time limit draw, BOTH wrestlers return to the dojo to continue their training.  In order to give the new wrestler a clean start in the AWL, Graduation Matches are NOT counted towards the AWL Win Loss Records.

Title Match Announced for AWL 306

And it’s a doozy!

Hassan (C) vs. Shynron
AWL Intercontinental Championship Match
3rd Title Defense

If Hassan wanted competition, he’s GOT IT!  The Master of Motion would make a fine Intercontinental Champion and I could easily see him taking the full Road Less Traveled to the AWL Grand Championship.  Either way, with Jigoku DESTROY carrying the belt, we need all the heroes with paths to the title we can get!

More Ranks on the Line!

Since every match at AWL 306 revolves around the AWL Best 4, why not one more:

Wild Thing (#1) vs. Nekomusume (#2) vs. ResuPINK (#3) vs. Athena Jane (#4)
Reshuffle Match

While the AWL Commissioner has not made any announcement as to when the winner of this match will challenge reigning AWL Joshi Champion Dragoness, but I can’t imagine that title match would take place any later than Sakuramania Wrestlegenesis.

Fight for...ever

At AWL 305, the top two members of the AWL Best 4 took their shot at the AWL Grand Championship.  That means a couple of things.  First, there are now two empty slots in the Best 4.  Second, we need a new #1 Contender.  With all this in mind, the AWL Commissioner has put together the following matches:
AWL 306
MAIN EVENT
ResuRED vs. Tiger Mask II
AWL Grand Championship #1 Contender’s Match.

Wyvern vs. Erupcion Solar
Fight for 4

Matt Classic Sr. vs. Lee Masters vs. Sammy Nix
Fight for 3
A note of explanation on that last match.  Matt, Lee, and Sammy are all bunched up together in the AWL Win-Loss Records and, with the chance to jump straight to the #3 slot, the AWL Commissioner feels that it’s only fair that you should have to beat 2 opponents rather than 1.
All these matches will take place this weekend so stay tuned to this blog and our YouTube channel for more from the Animated Wrestling League!

A New Era

A term that is badly overused in professional wrestling is New Era.  However, I think it’s apt here.  Last weekend at AWL 305, a NEW AWL Grand Champion was crowned in a brand new match never before seen in professional wrestling.  Dr. Jigoku’s newest Augment is our champion and, in a move that will surprise exactly nobody, the bad doctor has a few things to say:

Dr. Jigoku: VICTORY!  A brilliant plan if I do say so myself.  Over a year in the making but finally I control the AWL Grand Championship yet again.  For any INFERIOR stable, this would be sufficient success.  But I will settle for nothing less that total dominance of the Animated Wrestling League!  By the end of this season, my Augments will control ALL the belts in this company!!  2 down, 6 to go!  MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Ryusensei here again.  The 2 belts Jigoku is referring too are the AWL Grand Championship and the AWL New Year’s Tournament Championship.  Currently, Jigoku has no points in any tag division and nobody in the Joshi edition of the AWL Best 4.  So, he’s set himself an impossible task.
