2013 New Year's Tournament preview.

Greetings AWL faithful!  I know you are chomping at the bit for the new season of the Animated Wrestling League to begin but you must be patient.  After all, if we held the 2013 お正月大会 (Oshougatsu Taikai or “New Year’s Tournament” in English) in December of 2012, that would just be silly, wouldn’t it?

But I do have some good news for you, the AWL Commissioner has decided to release the official first round brackets for the 2013 お正月大会!  These matches were decided via a random lottery (with the exception of the mystery debuting wrestler, who always takes the #16 slot).  Please enjoy and feel free to speculate on who you think will go all the way and who you think got a lousy draw.

First Round Matches:
1. Ganba
2. Dragon

3. Shin Tora
4. Libre

5. Silver Potato
6. Ben Nelson

7. Lucha
8. American Beetle

9. Wolf
10. Tiger Mask

11. Tanaka Kenichi
12. Matt Classic

13. Luke James
14. Hassan

15. Striker
16. ????

There are some intriguing matchups here.  Two former two time AWL World Champions and top level competitors in Ganba and Dragon will meet in the first round.  That’s a main event worthy match in my opinion.

It’s going to be cat vs. dog as Tiger Mask faces the returning Wolf (who hasn’t been seen in the AWL in months).  Tiger Mask is currently staring down the barrel of a pathetic 2-9 losing record over the last two seasons while Wolf is 12-7 over that same time frame.  Tournament matches are not counted in official AWL win-loss records, but if Tiger Mask is going to turn his career around, now would be an excellent time to start.

Last year’s winner, Matt Classic returns to the tournament and will face his polar opposite “THUG LIFE” Tanaka Kenichi in the first round.  No one has ever won back to back tournaments but if anyone could do it, it just might be Matt Classic.

Libre, who put himself on the map with his performance in the 2012 tournament, is looking to improve upon last year and cement himself as a main event level wrestler.  He faces fellow light heavyweight Shin Tora in the first round.

There are also several tag teams represented in this tournament including AWL World Tag Team Champions The All Americans, The Super Tiger Brothers, the former Free Fighters, and Team UK.  Remember, this is a Singles division tournament and it is every man for himself. Will any of the tag teams have to wrestle each other?  Will they be able to?

Speaking of Team UK, Striker has drawn the unfortunate #15 slot and will have no chance to prepare for his mystery opponent.  The #16 mystery man has traditionally done well in the tournament and in the AWL in general.  Last year, Striker himself made his AWL debut and now he’s a former AWL Anarchy Champion and one half of a top tier tag team.  But nobody can top reigning AWL World Champion, Wonder Kid, who made his debut in the mystery slot of the New Year’s Tournament several years ago.  That same Wonder Kid is now sitting atop the mountain of the AWL waiting to see who is prophesied to topple him from his throne.

We will all find out this January when the Animated Wrestling League presents: お正月大会2013!

New Year's Tournament 2013 News.

Good evening wrestling fans!  RyuSensei here with the first news post of the Seasons 2~3 AWL Off Season.  I hope you are enjoying the off season as much as our AWL Wrestlers are.  As always, the AWL Wrestlers are using this time to heal up from various injuries, train themselves (perhaps adding to their arsenals of moves) and generally getting themselves ready for the new season.

Speaking of which, the first event of AWL Season 3, the 2013 New Year's Tournament, is just around the corner.  One of the biggest events of the AWL year, the NYT is a one night, 16 man, single elimination tournament.  The winner receives a 1,000,000 yen prize and becomes the barer of The Prophecy.  The Prophecy that says the New Year's Tournament Winner will hold the AWL World Heavyweight Championship some time in their calender year.

Here now, for the first time anywhere and in no particular order, the 16 wrestlers who will compete for gold and glory:

Ganba

Dragon

Matt Classic

Lucha

Libre

Wolf

Silver Potato

American Beetle

Hassan

Striker

Ben Nelson

Tiger Mask

Shin Tora

Luke James

Tanaka Kenichi

???? (By tradition, the final slot in the tournament is reserved for a debuting AWL wrestler)

AWL 40: Season 2 Finale!

AWL 40 pt 1 投稿者 AWLBoss
AWL 40 pt 2 投稿者 AWLBoss

It's been a long time coming, but we are here!  The last episode of the year.  You all know the card by now so I will only say that the AWL is putting it's best foot forward with 6 matches featuring our top wrestling stars.  All four AWL championships are on the line and some serious personal rivalries will hopefully be settled.  Sit back and enjoy the show!

Now to drop the kayfabe for a minute:

Thank you.

Thank you to everyone who has tuned into this blog (is that even the right way to say that?) and thank you to everyone who has taken time out of their days to watch my little wrestling show.  A few days ago, we passed 1000 page views for this site!!  September, October, and November were each this highest rated months I've ever had.  That might not be a lot  in the grand scheme of the internet, but I know several independent wrestling organizations in several VFW halls and armories around the world that don't have those kind of numbers.

Thanks to all of you, the AWL has become a global franchise.  Ever since the launch of awlwrestling.blogspot.com, we have had views from: USA, Japan, Russia, Germany, Ukraine, Sweden, UK, Latvia, South Korea, and Malaysia.

I am deeply humbled and grateful for all of you who enjoy my show.  Rest assured that the third season of the AWL will be on it's way soon.  Season 3 will begin in January with what has become a mighty tradition in this company: The New Year's Tournament.

Everyone have a Merry Christmas, a Happy Holiday, a Happy New Year, and I'll see you in 2013.

AWL 40 Preview Week: Day 6.

Dragon © vs. Wonder Kid: AWL World Heavyweight Championship Match.

At long last, after a week of posts, we finally get to the main event.  A match for the most important prize in all of animated wrestling and, some would argue, all of professional wrestling, the Animated Wrestling League World Heavyweight Championship!

And it should not be happening.

Because this match already took place.  At AWL 36, the Green Grappler defended his title against the Man Muscle Mountain and WON via pin fall after a top rope Dragon Star Press.  1.  2.  3.  End of story, right?

Wrong.  Wonder Kid did kick out of the cover, but the referee decided that it was too late and awarded the fall, the match, and the championship to Dragon.  Well, less than an hour later and the AWL Commissioner had no less than 30 voicemails, e-mails, faxes, you name it.  All from Yarina, Wonder Kid’s manager, DEMANDING justice.  Well, never one to say no to a lady (or possibly just to shut her up), the Commissioner ordered an examination of the last 5 seconds of the match and . . . it was too close to call.

Naturally, the referee’s decision is sacrosanct in the AWL.  Not even the Commissioner has the authority to override a referee’s ruling.  However, when Yarina heard that she started talking lawsuit and as a result, the Commissioner has done something unheard of in the AWL.  Wonder Kid has been granted a rematch for the world title, without having to work his way back up the Best 4 rankings!

For his part, Dragon has remained mostly silent on this issue.  But hopefully, we will get some answers in this exclusive interview:

Interviewer: First off Dragon, thank you for agreeing to talk to us today.
              Dragon: No problem.
Interviewer: I know you are getting ready for your big match tomorrow so I won’t take much of your time.  As you know, there is a great deal of controversy surrounding your AWL World Title right now.  What are your thoughts on this as you head into the main event tomorrow?
Dragon: Well, all I know is that I heard the referee’s hand slap the mat for the 3rd time before I felt Wonder Kid’s shoulder leave the ground.  I won that match and I know it.  But, I’ve seen the footage the same as everyone else and I can understand how that finish might look inconclusive.  My normal reaction would be to tell Wonder Kid to grow up.  He lost and that’s it.  I’ve lost title matches before.  Did I whine about it?  No!  I came to work the next week and started climbing the ranks again and now I stand here with 7 kilos of gold around my waist.  Wonder Kid is one amazing fighter, he could do the same thing if he set his mind to it but no, he gets Whatshername to bitch, moan, bully, and threaten his way into a rematch.  Well, I say, “NO WAY!”
At least, that’s what I want to say.  However, this isn’t about me.  It’s about the championship.  If I ignore this challenge, if I don’t prove that I can beat Wonder Kid fair and square, then it will permanently damage the integrity of the AWL World Title and I have worked too long and too hard not only building this company, but earning back my title to see it tainted by a big, bold, brass, asterisk!
Interviewer: Wow.  OK.  Do you have anything you’d like to say to your opponent before the match?
Dragon: Wonder Kid.  You.  Me.  AWL 40.  No excuses, no lawyers, no rematches.  One match to prove the better man and the real champion.  But be careful, when you play with Dragon Fire . . . you will get burned.
At this point Dragon leaves the interview to resume his pre match training.

We tried to contact Wonder Kid’s camp to give them equal time, but we were told that the challenger could not be disturbed ad did not have a comment at this time.

Well, I’ve said everything that could possibly be said.  All that’s left to do is fight.  Join us tomorrow for AWL 40.

AWL 40 Preview Week: Day 5

Ganba vs. Bubba Reese: Hell in a Cell.

Really, what more can be said about this feud?  It all began at AWL 20, when Ganba defeated Bubba Reese in a Reshuffle Match to not only become #1 contender to the AWL World Title, but to drop Reese down to #4.  Understandably, the Wild Card was not happy about this, but his actions just prior to AWL 21 would take this to a whole new level.  You know what, just watch it for yourselves:

Ganba Reese promo 投稿者 AWLBoss

You may be asking how we at the AWL got our hands on a WWE cage?  Well, remember back during AWL 1, when the Commissioner said that he’d “acquired” several old sets and materials that WWE “no longer had need for?”  Well, amongst that little treasure trove was the old HIAC cage (before they rebuilt the thing to prevent anyone from even thinking about taking the Mick Foley bump again) and that old cage is what shall be used at AWL 40.

Bubba Reese will have nowhere to run, nowhere to hide, and no one to rescue him.  For the first time in a long time he will have to fight like a man, one on one in the ring.  This is why Ganba asked that Reese be released from police custody following the parking lot assault.  This is why Ganba wanted the cage.  This will be the end of things.

By the end of AWL 40, Bubba will probably wish he’d stayed in prison.

AWL 40 Preview Week: Day 4

Super Giant vs. Ma-ji-ku: Anarchy & Light Heavyweight Championships—Title for Title!

BREAKING NEWS:  SUPER GIANT IS A LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT!!

This just in from the private detective agency of Slander & Sons: After being asked to investigate how Super Giant could possibly be in a position to win the AWL Light Heavyweight Championship, they have reported the following findings:
Our investigations have revealed that Super Giant is, in fact, a very short man who might weigh 150 pounds if he were dripping wet and pregnant.  How the hell anyone was fooled by this guy, we have no idea.  Your bill comes to \34,000 plus expenses for a total of \169,000.  Have a nice day.

Please take a moment to compose yourselves.  I’m sure this is as much of a shock to all of you as it is to me.  It turns out that Super Giant has been lying to us all this time.  I mean, he uses the Chokeslam for goodness sake!  How can a non-tall person use a Chokeslam??  I just don’t understand it.

The good news is that, while he lied to US, Super Giant could not lie to the RWS9000 computer that randomly generated the matches and stipulations for the AWL Anarchy Championship.  However, the apparent paradox of data generated when a Title for Title stipulation popped up between the Super Giant and Ma-ji-ku caused a glitch that resulted in the information for the title match being released early.  Therefore, for the first time in AWL history, we know the details of an Anarchy Title match before the match begins!

So what are we looking at here?  Until a few hours ago, I would have called this the biggest David vs. Goliath style mismatch imaginable.  But now?  I don’t know.  Yes, Super Giant is still a powerful fighter and yes, he has had a long reign with a title that is infamously difficult to hang on to, but this is Ma-Ji-Ku we’re talking about here.  Ma-Ji-Ku has held the AWL Light Heavyweight Championship since before AWL 3!  He has one of the best win-loss records in the AWL today (15-3 as of AWL 39, an 83% win percentage, if you were wondering).

With an incredible list of moves like the Endless Light, the Rolling Thunder, the STF, and the Hikari Spiral, it’s hard to imagine him losing, but it is worth pointing out that those three losses of has have all come from matches outside of his weight division.  Super Giant, as we have recently learned, has been fighting out of his weight class for his entire career and has a respectable 8-5 61.5% winning record including several straight victories as Anarchy Champion.  But as we saw with Super Giant losing to Libre a couple of weeks ago, the lucha libre style must not be underestimated and we know the giant is vulnerable.

At this point, nothing is certain.  Rather appropriate for something called the “Anarchy Championship” don’t you think?  All we know is, at AWL 40, someone is going home as a double champion!

AWL 40 Preview Week: Day 3

Lucha vs. Libre:

Ah good old fashioned sibling rivalry, brother vs. brother, beating the hell out of each other in tight pants and face concealing masks.  Perfectly normal, or was that just my family?  Anyway, at AWL 40, it will be the first one on one match ever between Lucha and Libre in the AWL.

The two brothers came to Japan and the AWL from their native Mexico where they are apparently the sons of a famous family in the world of Mexican pro wrestling aka lucha libre.  I say “apparently” because the only person in the AWL who knows who Libre and Lucha really are is the AWL Commissioner and he isn’t telling.  This is not an attempt by the boss to “work the locker room” but an attempt to respect the privacy of the brothers who, when they signed up, wanted to avoid any nepotism that came along with their name.

When they debuted in the AWL it was as a tag team called “The Free Fighters” a play on the English translations of their pseudonyms.  While never a top tag team, they had some success and even feuded with The Technicos for the AWL World Tag Team Titles.

But even in the early days, observant viewers saw seeds of what was to come between the bothers.  Libre always embraced the high flying offence and the honorable tactics expected of a technico luchador.  However, his elder brother Lucha was always more ruthless and disrespectful in his wrestling and his attitude, the rudo of the family if you will.

In hindsight, it should come as little surprise that Libre’s success (being hailed as the breakout star of AWL Season 2) caused a burst of jealousy in Lucha.  Lucha became obsessed with proving that his little brother needed his help to win matches.  This resulted in Lucha striking his own brother in the head with a steel chair when Libre refused to let his brother cheat to help him.

In recent weeks, Lucha has debuted a brand new look with black accents on his mask and tights, a new theme song that turns out to be Libre’s theme played backwards, and a new, more intense fighting style including a vicious sling shot leg drop to the neck.  A variation on a move that Libre has never quite mastered.

On the other hand, Libre feels that his big brother has stepped all over the family honor by becoming a rudo (Apparently, they come from a long line of technicos) and he hopes to set Lucha straight through the crucible of combat.

It’s brother versus brother with a metric ton of pride on the line as Lucha and Libre go one on one at AWL 40, this weekend!

Tune in tomorrow, when we will have news that will rock the AWL to its very core.

AWL 40 Preview Week: Day 2

All Americans © vs. Team UK—Tag Team Title Match:

Let us begin today’s preview with good news, American Beetle has been cleared to wrestle!  Not only that, but he has suffered no long term damage from his match last week.  Please remember, unlike some other wrestling organizations, we take the health and safety of our wrestlers very seriously and all AWL competitors are checked out by a doctor before and after each match with additional checks if they are suspected to have sustained an injury.  Failure of any talent to report for a health check results in forfeiture of pay for that day.  Health checks are 100% at company expense.

Moving on, the feud between the All Americans and Team UK has been a war of count out combat.  It all started back during the WWE Trios Tournament.  When the Americans and Brits met in the tournament, it resulted in a count out that earned Team USA 0 points and ensured that they could not win the tournament.  Once the All Americans became tag team champions, their matches with Team UK have been nothing but count out after count out with their most recent bout resulting in American Beetle suffering a concussion after suffering a severe beating by “Big” Ben Nelson, leading to the Patriotic Pugilist’s recently ended injury leave.

At AWL 40 there will be one final confrontation between the two teams.  And when we say final, we mean final.  At AWL 38, The Technicos were named #2 Contender’s to the AWL World Tag Team Titles.  That means that win, lose, or draw, it ends at AWL 40.

Tune in tomorrow as we take a look at the biggest sibling rivalry since the Lee Brothers at the end of Double Dragon, Lucha and Libre.

AWL 40 Preview Week: Day 1

Greetings wrestling fans, this week the AWL is counting down the days to AWL 40 with daily, you heard me, daily blog posts promoting each of the matches on the season finale.  Today, we look at what will be the opening match, Rick Flare’s Open Contract Challenge.

Rick Flare (note the spelling) is, quite frankly a poor rip off of the original Ric Flair.  Same moves, same robe (sort of), same attitude, the works.  He’s been with the AWL for many years and was actually in the very first AWL match on YouTube where he defeated American Beetle.  Since that early success however, his career has floundered.  Rick Flare has never legitimately held a championship in the AWL despite multiple attempts at winning both the Light Heavyweight and Anarchy Titles.  He came close to winning tag team gold back in season one when he joined forces with “The Boxing Bastard” Bruce Hoyt to form a tag team known as “The Best.”  Long story short, they weren’t.  No one is sure why the AWL Commissioner keeps Flare on the payroll but many suspect that the Commissioner still sees potential in Flare.  I have personally heard the boss say that if Flare were to get over himself and start being himself, he’d have “main eventer” written all over him.

After his most recent string of losses, Rick has issued an open challenge to any professional wrestler on or off the AWL roster.  While this is a painfully obvious attempt to force his way onto the card and therefore into a big payday, the AWL Commissioner has agreed to the match because a little surprise is always a good thing when it comes to a big show.

In breaking news, I can announce that the open contract HAS been accepted and (at the request of the challenger) the match will be a No Disqualification Match!  The identity of the challenger is as of yet unknown.  Tune into AWL 40 next weekend and find out who will face the dirtiest player in the video game.  And stay tuned all this week for more news and insight from the Animated Wrestling League.

AWL 38: Countdown to Finale

AWL 38 投稿者 AWLBoss

Happy belated Thanksgiving Americans and a Joyous Weekend to the rest of you.  The Animated Wrestling League proudly presents an American pro wrestling tradition: The Thanksgiving Special.  AWL 38 is absolutely CRAMMED with content and not a turkey suit or food fight in sight (which, as far as Thanksgiving episodes go, is pretty darn special).  Enjoy!

Thanksgiving Week News Post.

OK ladies and gentlemen.  It's a holiday weekend on both sides of the Pacific Ocean.  So this week's news post is going to be short and sweet.  First, the following message has been delivered to the office from the Pale Imitation, Rick Flare:

ONGODSGREENEARTH And . . . .andandand YOU DON’T USE HIM!!

Well no more WOOOO!  The dirtiest player in the video game is booking HIMSELF in a match at AWL 40!  Open contract.  Anyone out there who thinks that have what it talks to beat THE MAN, bring it!  WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AWL 36: Dragon vs. Wonder Kid

AWL 36: Dragon vs. Wonder Kid 投稿者 AWLBoss

Pre-title match interviews

In what I’m sure will become an AWL tradition.  Both champion and challenger in this weekend’s AWL World Title match will be given the opportunity to address the fans in this forum.  First, the challenger’s manager, Yarina, shall speak on behalf of her client, Wonder Kid.

At long last, the day is nearly upon us.  The greatest champion in not just the AWL, but ALL of professional wrestling, will reclaim that which is rightfully his.  The Man Muscle Mountain has gone through opponent after opponent and has come through without so much as a scratch.  Dragon may be a . . . somewhat decent champion, but last time Wonder Kid held the title, he was undefeated for a full year!  Simply put, Dragon is out of his league.  When the once and future champion hits the green bean with his Kinniku Buster, there will be a celebration dwarfing any that may have occurred in Chicago this week.  The rafters of the AWL Arena will tremble at the ovation for your winner . . . and NEEEEEEEWWWWWWW AWL World Heavyweight Champion: Wonder Kid.

Next, we hear from the Champion.

First off, Kinnikuman called, he wants his finisher back.  Second, I don’t need a manager to talk for me, I can say everything I need to say myself.  I’ll admit it, I’m worried.  Wonder Kid is bigger and stronger than I am.  I’d be a fool to deny that.  If this were an arm wrestling match I wouldn’t stand a chance.  But it isn’t.  It’s a professional wrestling match.  Like I told Lee Masters; Kid, I am a better pro wrestler than you are.  That is how I am going to beat you.  It’s not going to be easy.  In fact, “Biggest challenge of my career” wouldn’t be much of an exaggeration.  But it is through adversity that we prove ourselves.  Wonder Kid, you say you are the greatest champion of all time?  Prove it!

News Post for this week

OK boys and girls, slow news week this week.  So I’ll keep this brief with a preview of this weekend’s AWL 36 event:

1. Super Giant defends the AWL Anarchy Championship.
Super Giant has been a fighting champion as of late, this will be his third title defense in less than 2 months.  Will he hold on to his title?  Will his random opponent be up to the task?  Will the random stipulation finally be something that can take down the Giant?  Find out this weekend.

2. Curry Man & ???? vs. Team UK.
We’ve heard mutterings for weeks about the King of Spice and his search for a tag team partner.  This week we finally find out who it is.  Whomever Curry Man chooses, they have a tough fight for their first match as a team.  The #1 Contenders to the AWL World Tag Team Championship, Team UK.

3. Ganba vs. Terry Funk w/Bubba Reese.
Continuing to show that he has more honor than brains, Ganba continue his series of matches against the forces of the Hardcore Throwbacks.  If he survives, he gets Bubba Reese one on one at AWL 40.

4. Dragon © vs. Wonder Kid w/Yarina—AWL World Title Match.
What more needs to be said?  It’s the clash of the titans.  The dream match.  The onw you’ve all been waiting for.  Dragon and Wonder Kid.  Power vs. Skill.  Power vs. Experience.  Power vs. Heart.  Dragon faces his toughest challenge yet as he makes his second title defense.

AWL 36.  This weekend.  Watch it.

Finally, we have a news post that doesn't involve a massive controversy or start with a medical update on an injured wrestler.  So, on with the news:

First, we can confirm that Curry Man will challenge Ma-Ji-Ku for the AWL Light Heavyweight Championship in the main event of this week’s show.  Curry Man won this privilege after defeating Libre at AWL 34.  But the Warrior of Light has held his title since the summer of 2011!  With over a year of not only successful title defenses, but over a year of being undefeated in the division, can ANYONE dethrone the Light Heavyweight Champion?

In other news, now that the team known as the Hardcore Throwbacks has officially joined the AWL Roster (at least on a temporary basis) their leader, Bubba Reese, has made an official challenge . . . to Ganba?

Yes, they are challenging the man who has made it his mission in life to remove Bubba Reese from the AWL and see that he pays for his crimes.  Normally, we would have let Mr. Reese make his challenge himself in this forum, but that’s not going to happen.  When Reese submitted his letter of challenge for publication, we found it to be full of such filthy language that it was deemed inappropriate for the Internet.  Think about that for a second.  Here is the general gist of it:

Dear Ganba who loves his mother in an unconventional way.  If you want to fornicate/fight me so badly, prove it female dog.  Face each of my bad donkey Hardcore Throwbacks in the ring one by one.  If you survive, you get your fornicating match.  Note that I didn't say anything about winning or losing (We don’t care about that kind of stuff, we do not possess female genitalia).  I said SURVIVE.  Tommy Dreamer will be waiting for you at AWL 35 and he will send you into the next dimension.
                                                                                                  --Bubba Reese
P.S. Your mother was a dog of loose moral character.

Yeah, we had to work overtime cleaning that one up.

Additionally, the new #1 Contender to the AWL World Title, Wonder Kid will have an “Exhibition Match” against “Peacemaker” Luke James.  Our reporters were surprised to hear this as James is nowhere near Wonder Kid in terms of the AWL Rankings.  Apparently, Wonder kid’s manager Yarina personally negotiated for this match.  One can only assume that Luke James’ friendship with World Champion Dragon has something to do with this.

Lastly, there will be a one fall 4-corners Fight for 4 match at AWL 35.  The participants have not yet been announced.

Saturday, October 27, 2012

In preparation for this weekend’s AWL World Heavyweight Championship Match, we have invited both champion and challenger to give us their thoughts on the upcoming bout.

Listen here you egotistical little punk.  Bring all the MMA clichés you like.  But this weekend at AWL 34, there’s not going to be a “fight.”  There’s going to be a professional wrestling match.  Why?  Because that is what we are, Professional Wrestlers.  I’m proud of that and if you aren’t, well that says something about you, doesn’t it?  This title around my waist says that I am the best animated wrestler walking God’s green earth and I have worked too long and too hard to lose to the first guy to come at me.

When this company started all those years ago I was the AWL Champion.  Before we had weight divisions, before we had pyro, before we had Internet TV deals, back when it was me, my opponent, and anyone we could talk into the building.  Heck, back then the title had never been defended outside of Japan so we couldn’t even call it a “world” title.  I helped build this company.  I didn’t do it alone, but I was the face of the AWL.  And we didn’t give our blood sweat and tears to this company for you to disrespect me, disrespect the title, disrespect the AWL, disrespect Professional Wrestling with your psudo-MMA BS.

So this weekend, I’m not going to “fight” you . . . but I am going to beat you.
                                                                                                  --Dragon

In preparation for this weekend’s AWL World Heavyweight Championship Match, we have invited both champion and challenger to give us their thoughts on the upcoming bout.

Hey, this is Lee Masters.  This weekend, I got Dragon.  Now he’s a legend, and a worthy champion and all that, but ya know, he has never fought anyone like me.  I’m in the best shape of my life.  I’ve been training hard ever since I beat Matt and Sammy.  Been working on my ground game.  Been working on my wrestling.  Been working on my jits.  I’m as ready as ready can be.

When I get into that ring you’ll see the best version of me you have ever seen.  I’m gonna impose my will on Dragon.  He’s gonna try all his high flying jumping shit, but I’m gonna control the fight.  Dragon knows I’m a better fighter than him.  I got better striking, better wrestling, better defense, better jits, the works.  Plus, I’m gonna control the fight.  He won’t stand and bang with me cause he knows he’d get knocked out.  So I’m gonna take him to the ground and tap him out.  His only chance is to lay and pray because I’m the next AWL Champion.  And Dragon, you can kiss my jits.
                                                                                    --Lee Masters

What the hell!  In case you idiots hadn't heard, my LOSER of a little brother has another match this week while the TALENT of the Free Fighters isn't even booked on the show!!  And do you know what's worse?  It's a #1 Contender's Match!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  What the hell has Libre done to earn a title shot?  He LOST last week.  Yeah, yeah, I know he "had Bruce Hoyt pinned for a 3 count" blah blah blah but sorry.  There was no ref there to count the fall so screw you.  This is an outrage!  You bastards are lucky I didn't want to wrestle this weekend anyway.  The next time you see me it had better be in a contender's match!

or else.

This week's news post.

In this week’s news post we must begin with American Beetle.  Immediately after his tag team match at AWL 33, he was taken to 聖胸部病院 a local hospital specializing in the treatment of human-insect hybrids (it’s Japan, we need places like that).  It has been confirmed that American Beetle suffered a mild concussion.  He is expected to make a full recovery but he will not be cleared to wrestle for the next couple of months.  All of us here at the Animated Wrestling League wish him a safe and speedy recovery.

Regarding the AWL World Tag Team Titles, the Commissioner has a policy of never stripping a champion of their title unless it is completely unavoidable as that would destroy the legacy of the championship.  Therefore, the All Americans are still recognized as AWL World Tag Team Champions.  Their next title defense, against Team UK, has been postponed until the season 2 finale, AWL 40.  If American Beetle is not cleared to return by that time, the Commissioner will have no choice but to consider other options.

In other news, the Commissioner has rendered a decision on the faction known collectively as The Hardcore Throwbacks.  Since Tommy Dreamer and Terry Funk think they can hang with AWL Wrestlers half their age and twenty times their talent, they have been granted short term contracts valid until the end of season two.  At which point the AWL will have the option to renew or deny those contracts at will.  For the record, it should be noted that the AWL Commissioner has an intense dislike for so-called “Hardcore Wrestling” and considers it to be needlessly dangerous garbage.

Moving on to happier news, the full card for AWL 34 has just been announced:

MAIN EVENT: Dragon © vs. “Penultimate Fighter” Lee Masters—AWL World Heavyweight Championship Match.

Semi Final: “King of Spice” Curry Man vs. Libre—Light Heavyweight #1 Contender’s Match.

The Hardcore Throwbacks vs. The Super Tiger Brothers.

Wrestler X vs. “Suplex Master” Sammy Nix.

Super Giant vs. ????—AWL Anarchy Championship Match!

All that and more on the next episode of the Animated Wrestling League!  See you next weekend.

AWL 33: Ma-ji-ku vs. Flare

AWL 33 投稿者 AWLBoss

Another hour of power for you tonight as we bring you not one but TWO title matches.  Rick Flare challenges fro the AWL Light Heavyweight Title in a Submissions Only Match but Super Giant defends the AWL Anarchy Championship in a first ever stipulation match for this company.

Plus, Libre goes it alone against Bruce Hoyt and The All Americans face Team UK in non-title match.

Saturday, October 20, 2012

A personal message from Libre.

Translated from Spanish:

Ladies and gentlemen, on behalf of myself and my brother, I would like to apologize for what happened at AWL 32.  My big brother has always been a hot head and his temper got away from him.  I never asked him to interfere in my match, but the fact is that he did.  Lucha has explained to me that the chair he hit me with was intended for my opponent, Shin Tora, and I believe him.  Either way his actions were inexcusable.  I happily forfeit the match to Shin Tora and I have spoken to the AWL Commissioner and he agrees with me that neither Lucha nor I should be paid for last week.  I am deeply sorry for what happened and I hope the AWL fans can forgive us.  Thank you for your time and consideration.

Press release from the Commissioner's office.

Following the events of AWL 32, in which a World Tag Team Title Match ended in a double count out, all four of the wrestlers involved have been officially reprimanded and reminded that matches must take place in the wrestling ring.  Officially, the match has been ruled a draw and the All Americans have therefore retained the AWL World Tag Team Championship.  However, Team UK has claimed that they were not given a fair chance to challenge for the titles and have demanded a rematch.

It is the strict policy of the Animated Wrestling League that, excluding the Anarchy "Division", title matches are not handed out freely or at random.  Title shots must be earned.  Therefore at AWL 33, Team UK will face the All Americans in a non-title match.  If the Brits win they will get their rematch.

As for the faction known as The Hardcore Throwbacks, investigations into the incident are ongoing and cannot be commentated on at this time.

AWL 32: Gold & Revenge

AWL 32 投稿者 AWLBoss
AWL 32 comes at you with a rare double main event!  First, the All Americans face Team UK for the AWL World Tag Team Championship.  Also, at long last it's judgement day for "Wild Card" Bubba Reese and vengeance for "The Japanese Megastar" Ganba as he finally gets his hands around the throat of the man who nearly ended his career and cost him the world title.  Ganba vs. Reese one on one in a NO DQ Match!

News of the World (of Animated Wrestling).

Greetings AWL fans!  First off, AWL 32 will be slightly late due to real life getting in the way but it should be up in less than a day.  In the mean time, please enjoy the following story line related content:

Late last night the following message arrived at AWL Headquarters.

WOOOOOOOOOO!  Hey the AWL fans, this is WOOO Rick Flare.  And I have got a message for the Animated WOOO Wrestling League Light Heavyweight Champion.  Ma-Ji-Ku, ya punk!  The Nature Boy has got your number!  Cause ya see, I’ve been watching the tape.  I’ve been watching you and your little friends Team Mexico in the WWE tournament.  And ya know what?  WOOOOOOO YOU SUCK.  And you know why you suck?  Because you don’t know any submission holds.  That’s why you couldn’t rack up any points.  That’s your weakness.
Well, it’s time to wake up,
step up,
nut up,
and lace ‘em up
because I am challenging YOU to a title match . . . Submissions Only!  And when the coach flying, taxicab riding, grope stealing, scheming dreaming, son of a bitch slaps that Figure Four Leg Lock on you there is going to be a NEW!  Sheriff in town WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

And you can take that to the bank!
                                                                                    --Rick Flare

An hour later, I received a message from the AWL Commissioner:

Good Evening ladies and gentlemen, I am the AWL Commissioner and before I get to my point I must respond to Rick Flare: No.  You have not proven yourself worthy of an AWL Light Heavyweight Title Match.  However, your point about Ma-Ji-Ku's skill in submissions is valid.  Therefore you shall be given the chance to prove yourself at AWL 32.  A submissions only match against one of the top stars in the AWL Light Heavyweight Division.  Win and I'll give you your title match.

Now on to business.  After the events of AWL 30 and 31 I have completed the newest incarnation of the AWL Best 4 rankings.

AWL Best 4:
1. "Penultimate Fighter" Lee Masters.
2. Wonder Kid.
3. Silver Potato.
4. "Suplex Master" Sammy Nix.

THIS!  I HAVE COMMISSIONED!! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

BREAKING NEWS:  Following the events at the end of AWL 30, the NEW AWL World Heavyweight Champion Dragon was taken to a local medical facility where he was examined for the effects of blunt force trauma to the throat after Bubba Reese jammed a steel chair into his neck.
According to the doctors, Dragon tensed his neck muscles at exactly the right moment to avoid any critical damage.  He has some bruising and the mother of all sore throats, but there was no harm done to his windpipe, carotid arteries, or any other valuable equipment.
As such, the Green Grappler HAS been cleared to wrestle this weekend at AWL 31.  While he will not defend his newly won crown, he will compete in a non-title match against the tag team partner of his first challenger: “Suplex Master” Sammy Nix.
As for Bubba Reese, contrary to the opinion expressed on commentary at AWL 30, Mr. Reese did not “Escape from police custody.”  Instead, he was released when the police concluded that they could not successfully prosecute the case.  If this seems strange to you considering the video evidence involved, you’re not alone.  The AWL Commissioner will release a statement on the matter at AWL 31.
Finally, while it is 10 episodes in the making, the Animated Wrestling League will finally deliver the match promised for AWL 21: Ganba vs. Matt Classic at AWL 31.

Breaking News:  AWL Champion Wolf was found last night in a dumpster behind the AWL Arena sniffing through the garbage looking for old Kentucky Fried Chicken.  The title belt had been discarded in the gutter and was found with noticable teeth marks all over it.

AWL officials have confiscated the title and, while Wolf is still champion, he will only be permitted to wear his belt to the ring for official title defenses.  At all other times, it will be kept locked in a safe in the Commissioners office.

Hey dudes, I've beaten Wolf, I've beaten Dragon, I beat everybody.  I should be #1 Contender.  I'm the Man Muscle Mountain and I shouldn't have to wait.

Hey Commissioner.  How about I fight Wolf and Dragon at the same time, handicap match.  I win, they step aside and I get the first shot at Jumbo, I meant Tiny.  What do ya say?

Regarding the Tag Teams.

Attention AWL Fans and AWL locker room.  Speaking on behalf of myself and my partner, Lee Masters, we are highly disappointed in the current state of the AWL Tag Team Division. With the WWE tournament taking up so much video time, there hasn't been a traditional 2 on 2 tag team match on AWL programming in weeks and we, the World Tag Team Champions, haven't had a match since AWL 21 and THAT was a Champion's Showcase Match thrown together literally at the last minute when Ganba got injured, (Speaking of which,  well soon big guy!)

Now to be clear, we are enjoying the World Warrior Exposition and the influx of new talent will good for the AWL in both the short and long term, (Go Team World!) however we are worried about today.  We refuse to be champions of a stagnant division.

Therefore, we have spoken with the AWL Commissioner and he has agreed to let us offer an open contract on the AWL World Tag Team Titles.  Next week, any team that wants to step up will get the chance. First come, first served.

We call this: The Technico's Open Tag Team Challenge!

Yo Ma!  I  DID IT!  New champion baby!  That's how I do it baby.  Picked that old fogey up, eossed him across MY ring, then came crashing down in his wrinkly old ass: 1 2 3.  King of the World baby, King of the World!

And ya know what?  Wolf, Dragon, Wonder Fool, all y'all, there ain't NOBODY in the AWL that can beat the Largest Athlete in the Business TODAY!  So bring it on punks and b!tche$ cause Tiny is hear to stay and there ain't nothing you can do about it.  Peace!

NOTE: The following message was dictated to Ryu Sensei by Matt Classic.  We were originally going to let Mr. Classic speak for himself but when he asked where the carriage return was on the laptop, we went with plan B.

Tiny needs to shut up.  Real men do not make excuses.  Yes, that scoundrel Reese screwed up the match, but a real champion would have beaten me regardless.  Simple fact: Tiny did not win the match.  He is not champion.  I am.

Unless he is eating a salad, Tiny should keep his mouth shut and fight like a man.  With fists not words.

I trust the AWL Commissioner to render a fair decision on this matter, but I am the AWL World's Heavyweight Champion.  Period.
                                                                                                      --Matt Classic
Hey there folks!  What's this BS about the Comish "investigating" the match last week?  He ain't gotta "investigate" nothing!  I was on top of that cage when that no good son of a b!tch Reese fell out.  Look, I respect Classic, all of us do, but he was nowhere near me at the time.  I should be AWL Champ right now.  If the Comish has the balls, he'll do the right thing and give me my belt!  Peace!

Re: AWL World Title

Attention AWL fans.  After the controversial ending of last weekend's AWL World Title Match, the AWL offices have been flooded with calls and e-mails from fans, wrestlers, agents, lawyers, police, and the media all demanding an official response and clarification from the company.

Please rest assured that a full investigation has been launched.  We are reviewing the tape, checking the rule books, and consulting with all interested parties.  The investigation is ongoing, therefore, we cannot comment at this time.

The AWL Commissioner himself will make a public address regarding this matter at AWL 26 next weekend.  Please hold all questions until that time.  Thank you.

3, it's a magic number.

Three Days until AWL 21! And on episode 21, 3 men will fact the ultimate judgement in . . . The Batsu Match!

Wednesday, July 11, 2012

4 days and counting.  Today's topic of exposition is the AWL Best 4.

The Best 4 are the elite of the AWL.  As the top 4 contenders for the AWL World Heavyweight Championship, they are the best of the best.  A wrestler joins the Best 4 by winning a Fight for Four match or by special appointment by the AWL Commissioner.  Upon entry to the group, the wrestler starts as number 4 and must earn their way to the top.  Only the #1 Contender may challenge for the AWL World Heavyweight Championship.  Win or lose, the challenger is out of the Best 4 after their title match.

The ranks of the Best 4 change in one of two ways.  1. Via a Reshuffle Match.  The winning wrestler becomes #1 and the losing wrestler becomes #4.  2. The AWL Commissioner may unilaterally remove a wrestler from the Best 4, though this is extremely rare.

The current Best 4 are:

1. Ganba
2. Silver Potato
3. Tiny
4. "Wild Card" Bubba Reese

Tuesday, July 10, 2012

5 days remain until the debut of AWL Season 2!  5 is also the number of championship belts currently acknowledged by the Animated Wrestling League:

AWL World Heavyweight Champion: Matt Classic (2nd Reign)

AWL World Tag Team Champion: "Penultimate Fighter" Lee Masters (The Technicos)

AWL World Tag Team Champion: "Suplex Master" Sammy Nix (The Technicos)

AWL Light Heavyweight Champion: "The Warrior of Light" Ma-Ji-Ku

AWL Anarchy Champion: Hassan

AWL 15 投稿者 AWLBoss The Animated Wrestling League is back and we are ready to burn through the rest of season one in order to get to our episode 20 season finale before the end of the month. It all starts now with a 3 episode blitz in our first ever Triple Shot Weekend!

Thursday, May 17, 2012

Hi everyone.

Yes, this is yet another explanation of where I’ve been and why there have been no new AWL shows in the last few weeks. Well, the full answer is long and complex. But to sum up, I have had family emergencies that have required my full attention. In fact, I have spent the last 3 weeks in America attempting to deal with the aforementioned emergencies. Perhaps I’ll go into more detail later, but probably not on account of wanting to keep the AWL a fun distraction from my life.

Speaking of which, what is the status of the AWL?

Well, I have filmed footage for all episodes through to AWL 20, which will serve as a season finale. I expect to begin posting these episodes next weekend and hope to get them all posted within a couple of weeks with AWL 20 going online before the end of May. After AWL 20, I plan to go on hiatus for a few weeks in order to build up a buffer of episodes so that this kind of schedule slip doesn’t happen again. Season 2 will begin with AWL 21.

Now for some teasers:

1. There WILL be at least one title change between now and AWL 20.

2. By AWL 20, at least one character will leave the AWL never to return.

3. Season 2 will include a special event designed to coincide with the 2012 London Olympics.

 Also in season 2:
1. One character with have his darkest secret exposed for the whole world to see.

2. One character will lose that which is most precious to him.

AWL 11 Pt 1 投稿者 AWLBoss

AWL 11 pt 2 投稿者 AWLBoss

This is the final AWL Program of 2011: AWL 11 Light vs. Dark. The Angel of Death faces Ma-Ji-Ku for the AWL World Heavyweight Championship. It's the Undefeated Force meeting the Undead Object.

Happy New Year everyone!
