Grand Championship Match Announced!

The AWL Commissioner has booked an AWL Grand Championship Match for THIS WEEKEND as AWL 254!
He does NOT want Tanaka Kenichi to be champion by the end of the year.  We will NOT go into 2019 and the New Year’s Tournament with that…slime...as our champion!  So, the Commissioner must risk allowing Kenichi to break the record for most successful title defenses in this, his 6th title defense:
AWL 254:
MAIN EVENT
THUGLIFE Tanaka Kenichi (C) vs. Thief Ant (#1)
AWL Grand Championship Match
6th Title Defense
Thief Ant’s associate Titan Ant has been probably the biggest success story of this season.  With him to counter the efforts of Big Foot, this is probably our best chance to protect the AWL Grand Championship from the forces of evil, whether they be Dr. Jigoku, or Ganba Hisshi Dark.

Team #8 and Full Card

The eighth and final team has been announced for the AWL Joshi Tag Team Championship Tournament…and it’s a strange one.

Team #8. Monster Union: Wild Thing has teamed up with…The Manipulator?  That weirdo in the plague doctor’s mask who manages Hebitsukai?  I didn’t even realize she was a wrestler!  I guess that makes her a wild card in this tournament because nobody has any idea what she is or isn’t capable of.  Paired up with the already unpredictable Wild Thing, this could get very interesting, very soon.

And I mean that literally, because Monster Union will be in the first match of the tournament tomorrow at AWL 253.  Here now, the full card for that event:

The Augments vs. Monster Union
Joshi Tag Team Tournament Quarter Final #1

H-03 vs. Hassan
Fight for 3

Ganba Hisshi Dark vs. Tiger Mask II
Fight for 4

Purosentai Resurangers (0) vs. The Augments ( & Z) (0)
Points in Play

W-01 (C) vs. “Liger”
AWL Intercontinental Championship Match
1st Title Defense

Danger 13 (1) vs. Liga Cosmica (0)
Points in Play

Just as a reminder, W-01 must defend his AWL Intercontinental Championship against everyone he didn’t eliminate in the Scramble Match last week.  (That literally nobody saw apparently.)  That means the Fake Liger, Hassan, and Project-Z currently have title matches in their future.  IF W-01 retains the title.  IF a new champion is crowned, all such promises are null and void.

Join us tomorrow for AWL 253 and watch history be made as the AWL Joshi Tag Team Tournament begins!

Team #7 and Tag Team Action Announced

Welcome back for more news of the Animated Wrestling League.  First, as with every day this week, it’s time to introduce a new team to the Joshi Tag Team Tournament.

Team #7.  Tiger & Bunny: No, I have no idea if the name was inspired by the Anime of if it’s simply descriptive.  Either way, the team of Spring Tiger and Usa-chan could very well be a dark horse candidate to win this whole thing.  Spring Tiger’s classical training allows her to pick apart any limb of the opponent’s body she chooses while Usa-chan’s deceptive quickness gives her the advantage over stronger opponents.  In both of their cases, their beauty and grace lead the enemy to underestimate them.  With the Joshi Tag Team Championships at stake, that could be a fatal error.

But it’s not just the women who have tag team action this week.  Two matches have been signed for the men’s division and they are:

Danger 13 (1) vs. Liga Cosmica (0)
Points in Play

Purosentai Resuranger (0) vs. The Augments ( & Z) (0)
Points in Play

Team #6 and Filling the Gaps

Greetings wrestling fans, I hope you’re all having a fantastic week!  Before I get to today’s main news, let’s take a look at another team entering the Joshi Tag Team Tournament:
Team #6. The Augments: As expected, Dr. Jigoku has added a pair of his monsters to the tournament.  KiroshiMACHINE and a brand new Augment making her AWL Debut.  There’s no way of knowing the details of this mystery woman until she actually debuts, but one thing is certain, she won’t be human.
Now for today’s news.  The AWL Commissioner has decided to dedicate two matches this weekend to filling in the gaps in the AWL Best 4 for the Grand Championship.  Currently, Thief Ant & M-05 hold the top two slots.  The following matches will determine numbers 3 and 4 respectively.

Fight for 3
H-03 vs. Hassan

Fight for 4
Ganba Hisshi Dark vs. Tiger Mask II

If you’re wondering, those matches were determined by Win Loss Ratio.  HAKAISHA/H-03 and Hassan are fighting for the higher rank because they have the better ratios.

IT'S TIME!

At long last, the AWL Joshi Tag Team Championship Tournament will begin this weekend at AWL 253!  Every day this week, I’ll be revealing a new tag team that will be entering the tournament.  For today however, let’s quickly go over the format.

8 teams will be competing in this tournament.  There will be 4 quarter final matches over the next 4 weeks at AWL 253-256.  The semifinals will be the following two weeks and the finals to crown the first ever AWL Joshi Tag Team Champions will take place at AWL 260, the Season 13 Finale!

The teams so far are:

Team #1. Yin & Yang: The first ever tag team of any gender in the Animated Wrestling League.  They’ve come out of retirement to join the Joshi Division.  They’re also the only team in the tournament who’ve held tag team gold in the past being the first ever AWL Tag Team Champions.

Team #2. Queens of Wrestling: If Yin & Yang represent the history of the AWL, these two are the present.  The undefeated Joshi Champion and the only woman to have challenged for the title twice.  Friends outside of the ring, they are a powerful combination inside it.

Team #3. Ladies of Lucha: Two of Mexico’s latest and greatest exports.  Lucha Libre is a style recognized around the world for its history and spectacular style.  While Joya and Tormenta de Fuego may be young both in terms of age and their pro wrestling careers, they have all the tools needed to become champions and this tournament is the perfect opportunity to put it all together.

Team #4. Modern Day Warriors: Power, power, and more power!  That’s what these women are all about.  Athena Jane, the final GWM Diva’s Champion and former member of the AWL Best 4, is the strongest woman in the Joshi Division by a mile.  The only person who comes close is her tag team partner, Jackie M.  With a century old chip on her shoulder, she will stop at nothing to become a champion.

Team #5. Purosentai Resurangers: As we learned last weekend, Resu Yellow has the power to jump across the gender line at will.  She will use this power to join Resu Pink in the tournament.  Resu Yellow’s athleticism and Resu Pink’s strength may prove the be the ultimate Resu Gattai.

Tune in tomorrow to learn the identity of team #6.

Full Card..or as close as I can get.

This is normally the time of the week where I promote the card for this weekend’s AWL episode…but I can’t really do that this week.  I have the names of the wrestlers aiming to become AWL Intercontinental Champion…but I don’t have the actual matchups those are being kept top secret until show time.  I’ll get to the full card in a minute, but it looks like there’s going to be the AWL vs. Dr. Jigoku.

Dragoness Debut Series to continue

With the start of the Joshi Tag Team Tournament just over a week away, more and more teams are being revealed.  Already confirmed for the tournament are:
1. Queens of Wrestling.
2. Yin & Yang.
3. Ladies of Lucha.
4. Modern Day Warriors.
There are rumors that Dr. Jigoku is building a new female Augment to team with KiroshiMACHINE to enter the tournament, but those are unconfirmed at this time.  However, one faction that WILL enter the tournament is the Purosentai Resurangers.  Obviously, only one of the rangers, Resu Pink, is a woman.  So, this weekend in the Dragoness Debut Series, the newest member of the Purosentai Resuranger will make her AWL Debut!  That will give us our 5th official team for the Joshi Tag Team Tournament!

New IC Champion to be crowned.

We need a new Intercontinental champion and that’s what this weekend’s episode of the Animated Wrestling League is going to be about.  12 wrestlers will compete in 6 qualifying matches with the winners advancing to a 6-man scramble match in the main event to crown a NEW AWL IC Champion.  The details will be announced later this week.

A Legend Returns

HE’S BACK!  Ladies and gentlemen, this morning the Animated Wrestling League received a message via telegraph wherein Matt Classic Sr. officially requested to be reinstated as a member of the AWL Roster!!
Way back at AWL 100, Matt Classics chose to retire after defeating “Lightning” Mike Quackenbush for the AWL World’s Heavyweight Championship.  He had announced his decision to retire at the beginning of that season and the title match was the AWL Commissioner’s idea of a retirement present.
Now, seven and a half seasons later, Matt Classic Sr. is BACK!  Because he retired of his own free will and never lost his career in a match, the AWL Commissioner has ACCEPTED MATT CLASSIC’S REQUEST!
Matt Classic Sr. will make his official in-ring return THIS WEEKEND at AWL 251!

Grand Championship Match announced for AWL 251!

A message from Dr. Jigoku:

I truly do not understand how that miserable little worm has escaped my creations not once, but TWICE!  Given the data available, I can only conclude that the lack of laboratory conditions was the determining factor.  An errant giant, an incompetent referee, whatever.  The result is that the experiment has not come to its conclusion as of yet.

So, this time I shall define the parameters of the experiment!  My Iron Project has completed the mundane task of defending the Intercontinental Championship 5 times.  That means WE name the match.  In order to purge the setting from any undue contamination, Project Tetsu shall face Tanaka Kenichi…In a HELL IN A CELL MATCH!!!

More matches for AWL 250!

You heard the subject line.  Let’s get to this!  First, a match that was already announced, but has been given a couple of HUGE upgrades!

Matt Classic Jr. (OXX) vs. Ganba Hisshi Dark (10)
Test of 10 Match 10
Career vs. Golden Opportunity
THERE MUST BE A WINNER!!
MATT CLASSIC SR. AT RING SIDE!

THAT’S RIGHT!  The original Matt Classic is making his first appearance in the AWL Arena since retiring as AWL World Heavyweight Champion at AWL 100!  He will be in his son’s corner for what may very well be junior’s final match in the Animated Wrestling League.

Furthermore, after a spectacular and possibly career making pair of performances at the Tag Matsuri, Shin Tiger Jr. and Black Tiger Justice will finish their training…against each other!

Shin Tiger Jr. vs. Black Tiger Justice
Tiger’s Training Series Match THE FINAL

All that and MORE at AWL 250!

Three Title Matches Announced for AWL 250!

The mid-point of Season 13 rapidly approaches.  To celebrate out sestercentennial (Yes, that’s a real word), not one, not two, but THREE championships will be defended this weekend.  The first two, we already knew about:
AWL 250
MAIN EVENT
THUGLIFE Tanaka Kenichi (C) vs. Wyvern (#1)
AWL Grand Championship Match
4th Title Defense
Big Foot BARRED from ring side.

Akira Merune (C) vs. Yin (#1)
AWL Joshi Championship Match
4th Title Defense

And now the new title match.  Immediately after the conclusion of the Tag Matsuri, the spoilers of Nippon Yokkata informed the AWL Commissioner that they wished to cash in their 4 points as soon as possible.  That’s this weekend.

The New Classics (C) vs. Nippon Yokkata (Yamada Jiro/Hufumi Ryuji) (4)
AWL World’s Tag Team Championship Match
1st Title Defense

Since it’s highly unusual for a team to have 4 points, allow me to remind all of you of some of the details of the AWL 3-Point System.  Challengers cash in 3 points to make their challenge, but a loss results in the loss of ALL points on the board.  So, if Nippon Yokkata lose the match, they lose their leftover point.  If they win and subsequently lose the AWL World Tag Team Titles, that also counts as a loss, so the extra point would be forfeit.

However, if Nippon Yokkata win the match but DON’T win the titles (victory by count out, DQ, or a push from a time limit draw), then they will keep their extra point and be one step closer to a rematch.  With the minutia out of the way, please join us this weekend for AWL 250!

AWL Joshi Tag Team Championships Announced!

That’s right wrestling fans!  The Animated Wrestling League is commissioning a brand-new set of championship belts.  The AWL Joshi Tag Team Championship!  The first champions will be crowned at AWL 260: The Season 13 Finale.

Here at the Animated Wrestling League, we believe the rules for the women should be the same as for the men.  So, we looked back into AWL History and realized that the AWL World’s Tag Team Championship was first awarded to Yin & Yang after they won an 8-team single elimination tournament that also featured: Dragon & Tiger Mask, The Axis of Equality (Hassan & Rasputin), The Show Stoppers (Dan Dynamo & Mr. Showtime), the Young Lions (Lee Masters & Bubba Reese), The Speed Stars (White Light & The Stig), Big Business (Warrior & Tiny), and Drag & Dream.

History repeats, but this time NOT in Rio de Janeiro.  This time it will happen right in front of your eyes in the world famous AWL Arena!

The teams have yet to be announced, but you’re going to get to see the first two teams compete in non-tournament action at AWL Supercard: Tag Matsuri 2018.
