Update on Ben Nelson

OK people, this is supposed to be where I tell you the card for AWL 90. Well, at the moment, there are other things on the minds of everybody in the AWL office and locker room. Obviously, I'm talking about Ben Nelson.

At least I finally have an update from the good folks at Sacred Heart Local Medical Facility on Ben's condition. He has 2 cracked ribs, a separated left shoulder, and a (thankfully) low grade concussion. While he is expected to make a full recovery he is not currently cleared to wrestle. He is scheduled for another exam this Friday, so there's still a chance of him making the show. But right now it looks like the AWL World Heavyweight Championship Match isn't going to happen.

BREAKING NEWS!!

AWL Wrestler and #1 Contender to the AWL World Title, "Big" Ben Nelson. Has been the apparent victim of an attack. He was found late Monday in the hallway of the AWL Arena. Details are still coming in, but it appears he was at the Arena to train for his title match and someone apparently jumped him on the way to the locker room. The security cameras in that part of the Arena have been damaged. Our tech team is examining the cameras now trying to retrieve any data they can, but we have nothing at the moment. Beyond that, there's not much else we know at this time. Ben's medical status as well as the status of this weekend's main event are currently unknown. We will have more updates as they become available.

AWL 89: To Challenge a Giant!

AWL 89 投稿者 AWLBoss

First: I ****ed up.  The title card calls this episode 83, not 89.  Sorry about that, I was busy as **** this past week.

This is going to be a little unusual, even by AWL standards.  One of the best things about the Animated Wrestling League is that we treat all our championships equally.  Tonight we present as our main event: A qualification match . . . . . for a #1 Contender's Match . . . . . For the AWL World Heavyweight Championship!

4 of the best athletes in professional wrestling today will ply their craft in the AWL ring in an elimination match.  The winner will face Super Giant (the man who pinned the champion) in a #1 Contender's Match next week at AWL 90.

"Lightning" Mike Quackenbush

Tiger Mask

American Beetle

El Santo Azul

Who could ask the wrestling gods for better than that?  Enjoy the show!

Pre Title Match Interviews

This will be the last update before AWL 88. As per AWL tradition (when we remember to do it at least) the champion and challenger in the AWL World Heavyweight Championship Match are given the floor to make any comment they see fit (within the bounds of good taste of course). First, the challenger. As usual, Wonder Kid is speaking through a press release by his manager Yarina:

Ladies and gentlemen, the rumors of our demise have been greatly exaggerated. While we at Yarina Talent Management Inc have had to make some difficult staffing decisions in the recent past, out company's growth strategy remains as strong as ever. Not only have we eliminated the obvious weak link in the chain, we have reforged that chain to be even stronger than ever. With our new exploration into emerging markets, specifically the AWL Baby Division, coupled with a renewed focus on out tag team prospects, the future of profitability for the company is vary encouraging.

This sunday will be our biggest step toward our goals. YTM Inc's franchise asset, Wonder Kid will regain our AWL World Heavyweight Championship. While Ganba was able to defeat a former employee of ours history has shown that The Man Muscle Mountain is far more of a challenge to the so called champ.

And now, Ganba's response. In the interest of clarity, we are making use of our always excellent team of AWL translators.

Yarina disrespects HAKAISHA with her words and actions. When two men fight in the ring, they come to understand each other's hearts. When I fought HAKAISHA I saw a young man with the heart of a champion. Yes, I was the winner that day, but I saw all I needed to see from him. He is worth far more that Yarina thinks.

Wonder Kid, I know your heart too. We have fought so many times and we both know the other's strengths and weaknesses. I can't say for certain that I will win. But I promise you and the AWL fans one thing. When that bell rings, you will see EVERYTHING I have! This weekend, we FINISH this once and for all. One way or another, I will always do my best!

いつも頑張ります!!

And with that I leave you to wait the mere hours between now and AWL 88. Or, you know, just scroll up if you're reading this in the archives.

And now, the undercard.....

Well, I'd told you yesterday that' have the undercard for AWL 88 and I've come through. Fresh from the AWL Commissioner's office, three matches that (in addition to our two title matches) will make AWL 88 a can't miss show.

Peacemaker" Luke James vs. Matt Classic

In one of Matt Classic's few remaining matches, he faces one of the AWL's up and coming stars in the cowboy from Nashville, Luke James. Can the Peacemaker's rough and ready style match up against the traditional wrestling prowess of Matt Classic? Tune in this Sunday (Japan time) to find out.

Crisis Gundan (0) vs. The Masters of the Mask (0)

What the hell?" I can already hear you thinking. "How can Crisis Gundan be in a match when HAKAISHA was fired last week?" Well, it's quite simple, this is a brand new Crisis Gundan. The team will consist of Jack "Breakdown" Butcher and the newest member of Yarina Tallent Management inc.: Super Giant! They face the two best luchadores in the AWL (including the World Light Heavyweight Champion), The Masters of the Mask. And needless to say, points are on the line!

Big" Ben Nelson vs THUGLIFE Tanaka Kenichi.

I would hate to be Ben Nelson right now. He's been stuck on the AWL Best 4 list for months and when he finally gets to the top . . . BAM, Wonder Kid pins Mike Quackenbush and he gets knocked down a peg. And now, as if to add insult to injury, the AWL Commissioner sticks the #2 contender into a match with Tanaka Kenichi!? That's like ordering Manchester United to play against the
Piciyune Pee-wee Football team. From what I understand, Ben is NOT happy about this. Frankly, I wouldn't want to be Tanaka Kenichi right now (not that I ever would, but still).

So the full card for AWL 88 is:

Main Event: Ganba (C) vs. Wonder Kid—AWL World Heavyweight Championship Match.

Semi Final: Big & Spicy (C) vs. The Technicos (5)—AWL World Tag Team Championship Match

Peacemaker" Luke James vs. Matt Classic

Crisis Gundan (0) vs. The Masters of the Mask (0)

Big" Ben Nelson vs. THUGLIFE Tanaka Kenichi

Double Title Matches This Weekend!!

Can you feel it? That's the big fight atmoshpere that's building around the Animated Wrestling League. As we learned this past weekend, there will be not one but TWO championship matches at AWL 88! Ganba will defend his AWL World Heavyweight Championship for the first time against his biggest and longest rival: Wonder Kid. Later this week, we'll have comments from both champion and challenger, but for now I'll sum it up by saying that after the debacle that was HAKAISHA losing both the title and his job, Wonder Kid is the last piece Yarina has on the board. The last chance she has to regain control of the AWL World Heavyweight Championship. On the other side of the ring, Ganba is hoping to prove that he still has what it takes to be champion. This may be his unprecedented FOURTH reign as champion, but he has never held the title for very long. If he can't make it past his oldest enemy, it would forever label him as a fluke champion.

Also, the AWL World Tag Team Championship will be defended for only the second time this season. Following this past Sunday's match between The Technicos and Dragon & James, the technical wrestlers will challange the always entertaining Big & Spicy for their AWL World Tag Team Championships. While there are not personal grudges between these two teams, there could be no greater contrast of styles. It should be interesting to say the least.

Rounding out the undercard will be two singles matches and a tag team match with points on the line. But I'll get to all that tomorrow.

AWL 88 Card (so far):

Main Event: Ganba (C) vs. Wonder Kid—AWL World Heavyweight Championship Match.

Semi Final: Big & Spicy (C) vs. The Technicos (5)—AWL World Tag Team Championship Match

AWL 87: Haru Havoc

AWL 87 投稿者 AWLBoss

You know that feeling when you're up at the wee hours of the morning adding a memorial to a recently passed Hall of Famer and you realize you misspelled dedicated . . . . . twice.  *facepalm*

Oh, well.  Enjoy the show!

RIP Ultimate Warrior

I have just learned that Jim Hellwig aka The Ultimate Warrior has died.  The cause of death is unknown as of this writing.

His death comes just 72 hours after he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame and less than 24 hours since he appeared on WWE Monday Night RAW to deliver what turned out to be a final promo thanking his fans for supporting him over the decades.

Much has been said about this man's career both good and bad, but I hope he felt that the character that was clearly so near and dear to him had a happy ending.

Rest in Peace sir, and thank you for the memories and all the laughs.

Tag Team Rubber Match

Hello again wrestling fans. Are we all recovered from our Wrestlemania hangovers? Good! Then I'll begin.

Today's news is about the AWL Tag Team Division. As of late, the big story has been the feud between The Technicos and the team of Dragon & "Peacemaker" Luke James. They've fought to a 10 minute draw and they've fought to a 15 minute draw. The first match was for one point, the second match for two. Those of you with a full complement of smarts can probably guess what comes next.

Dragon & James (0) vs. The Technicos (2)—Special Tag Team Match.
20 Minute Time Limit
3 Points on the Line!!

Let's add that to the matches that have already been revealed:

Main Event: Champions' Showcase!
Big & Spicy vs. Ganba & Ma-Ji-Ku

AWL Best 4 Reshuffle Match:
1. "Big" Ben Nelson vs. 2. Wonder Kid vs. 3. Wolf vs. 4 TBD

Fight for 4:
Lightning" Mike Quackenbush vs. Wrestler X

It's shaping up to be one hell of a card. Be sure to join us Sunday Morning April 5th (Japan Time) for AWL 87: Haru Havoc!!

The Fate of the Four.

Hey there wresting fans and AWL faithful the world over!

While I'm fairly sure there is another wrestling event today that has all of your attention, I'm here to present you with more news and matches for the wrestling event you SHOULD be focusing on: AWL 87, which we are now subtitling "Haru Havoc!"

You already know about the Champions' Showcase Tag Team main event between Big & Spicy and the team of Ganba & Ma-Ji-Ku, but let us not forget the all important AWL Best 4. At the moment, the rankings are as follows:

1. "Big" Ben Nelson
2. Wonder Kid
3. Wolf
4. [Vacant]

First, of course, we need to fill that vacancy with a Fight for 4 Match. By decree of the AWL Commissioner, the match will be:

Lightning" Mike Quackenbush vs. Wrestler X

Yes, you read that right, Wrestler X is making his return to the AWL after a loooooong time on the injured list. Last seen as a member of the N.R.E., he was put on the shelf by Crisis Gundan. We've heard nothing from him since, but appearently he has been in vigrous rehab hoping to return to the AWL ring. I can only assume that his spot in the Fight for 4 is a reward from the AWL Commissioner for his hard work in returning to action.

But that's not all from the top 4 contneders at AWL 87. Since we have all 4 champions in action, it's only fair that all 4 contenders be in a match as well. Therefore (and to shake things up a bit), the boss has decided to bring out a second AWL tradition in addition to the Champions' Showcase:

Big" Ben Nelson vs. Wonder Kid vs. Wolf vs. ???? [Winner of Fight for 4]--AWL Best 4 Reshuffle Match!

A 4-Courners/Fatal Fourway/whatever you want to call it match where the winner of the fall bacomes the #1 Contender and the loser of the fall drops to #4 with everyone else moving up or down as needed to fill in the gaps. So it's possible that either Quackenbush or Wrestler X could go from the outside to the top of the rankings in a single night, but they'll have to win two matches to do it.

That's all for now, stay tuned all this week for more news and matches as we move toward AWL 87: Haru Havoc!

Back up and running!

Dear anyone who still follows this blog,

Well, moving house turned out to be a lot more complex than I thought it would be.  As such, the next episode of the AWL will be pushed back to Sunday, April 13th.  That show, AWL 87, will be main event by an old AWL tradition: The Champions' Showcase!

In a Champions' Showcase Match, the AWL World Heavyweight Champion and AWL World Light Heavyweight Champion team up to face the AWL World Tag Team Champions.  All the AWL champions in the same ring at the same time.  Now, to make it official:

AWL 87 Main Event:
Big & Spicy (AWL World Tag Team Champions)
vs.
Ganba (AWL World Heavyweight Champion) & Ma-Ji-Ku (AWL World Lt. HvWt Champion)

We'll have a lot more news and matches in the next few days, so stay tuned for more from the Animated Wrestling League!
