Full Card for AWL: 249

Since this week is the Go Home Show for AWL 250, the AWL Commissioner has already put out a 5 match card with some interesting implications for the midseason mega show.
AWL 249
MAIN EVENT
Wyvern vs. Big Foot
If Wyvern wins, Big Foot is BARRED from ringside at AWL 250!

Azteckaizer NEO vs. Project Tetsu (C)
AWL Intercontinental Championship Match
Final Title Defense

Matt Classic Jr. vs. LJ-04

A trio of matches featuring a trio that might not exist after AWL 250.  Matt Classic Jr. puts his career on the line against Ganba Hisshi Dark, so this week he gets a warmup match against another former AWL technico who has fallen to the dark side.
Speaking of evil, Dr. Jigoku’s monster Project Tetsu will make his 5th and final title defense against the Bearer of the Star of Aztec.  However, IF Project Tetsu wins, he will challenge the Grand Champion (whomever that may be) AFTER AWL 250 because the Grand Championship Match for that show has already been announced and promoted.
Speaking of the Grand Championship (Cue: Wrestletalk segue joke), the main event of AWL 249 will give Wyvern the chance to remove the only reason Tanaka Kenichi is still champion from the equation at 250.  However, I’m certain the Grand Champion has given his pet giant his marching orders: Make sure Wyvern is in no shape to compete at AWL 250.
                But that’s not all folks:

F.I.S.T. (2) vs. Nippon Yokkata (2)
2 Point/20 Minute Match
Points in Play
Last week, these two teams fought to a 15-minute time limit draw.  This is the rematch required under our system of rules.  It is expected that the winners will challenge for the AWL World Tag Team Championships at the Tag Matsuri.

Titan Ant vs. The Augment “Dragon
Last week, the enormous Titan Ant made his AWL debut in a tag team match against the Young Dragons, who were beaten so badly that they couldn’t answer the referee’s 20 count.  This week, we’ll see him one on one against one of Dr. Jigoku’s monsters.

The Future

Greetings grapple fans, it’s the beginning of a very busy fortnight here at the Animated Wrestling League.  Three shows in the next 2 weeks and they are:

Sunday September 30th: AWL 249.
Wednesday October 3rd: AWL Super Card—Tag Matsuri 2018!
Sunday October 7th: AWL 250.

But that’s not all, over the same two weeks, I’m planning 3 episodes of the Last Wrestling Podcast.

Sometime this week: Top 10 Worst Championship Belts.

Friday October 5th: NJPW King of Pro Wrestling 2018 Preview & Predictions.  A new format because…

Monday October 8th: NJPW King of Pro Wrestling 2018…Live Reaction!  I’m going to be life and in person at Sumo Hall in Ryogoku for King of Pro Wrestling and I’ll be posting a LIVE reaction to the show immediately after it’s conclusion.  Hopefully, (if I can make it work) this will be my first ever Last Wrestling Podcast LIVE STREAM!!
Obviously, I can’t (or won’t) post any video of the actual show itself.  If you want to see the show, New Japan World is cheaper than WWE Network and features 100% less Saudi misogyny…er…money.  But it’ll be live, so there’s no telling what might happen.

HUGE Trios Match Announced!

This is BIG!  The AWL Commissioner has announced a trios match for AWL 248 that will…oh just look for yourself:

Shin Jidai vs. THUGLIFE Tanaka Kenichi, Big Foot, & X
Trios Match

That’s right, the #1 contender and the Grand Champion will be across the ring from each other alongside their respective teams in a preview of AWL 250.  But here’s the kicker, that “X” up there?  I don’t know who it is.  You don’t know who it is.  None of the wrestlers involved including the ones on “X’s” team know who it is.  But there is one thing I do know…“X” will be the tenth and final challenger in Matt Classic Jr’s Test of 10!!

Thief Ant speaks.

For weeks now, all I’ve heard is how “lucky I am that I “sneeked” my way into the AWL Best 4.  First, it’s “snuck” go read a book.  Second, it’s not luck, it’s skill.  More than that, it’s knowledge.  As everyone knows, we ants are world famous for our hard work.
That brings me to Tanaka Kenichi.  I’ve been watching your matches.  By rights, you shouldn’t be Grand Champion at all and the only reason you are is that giant backup of yours.  He interferes in your matches and it doesn’t even matter if you get caught because you know you keep the belt if you get disqualified.  Because you’re stupid, but you’re not that stupid if you know what I mean.
With all due respect to Wyvern, he’s a much better wrestler than you are, but he hasn’t been studying you.  He’s too distracted with Matt Classic Jr. and the Test of 10.  For that matter, he’s generally been a bit of a space case lately.  But as much as I respect him, I don’t think he’s going to beat you because you’ll just weasel out of it again.
This weekend at AWL 248, I’m going to show you that it’s not just a catchphrase when I say…what’s yours…is MINE.

Tag Matsuri and Title Matches Announced

Greetings grapple fans!  The AWL Commissioner has confirmed two big events on the AWL calendar.  First, our annual fall Super Card where we celebrate the art sport of tag team wrestling.
AWL Tag Matsuri 2018
October 3rd, 2018
If you are new to the AWL, there are three things you need to know about the Tag Matsuri:

1. NO POINTS CAN BE LOST DURING THE FESTIVAL.  Points may be cashed in, but they cannot be lost.

2. THE AWL WORLD TAG TEAM TITLES MUST BE DEFENDED.  If there are no teams with 3 points, the champions will face the winners of…

3. THE TAG TEAM GAUNTLET MATCH.  Contested to 3 points.  Two teams begin, after every fall, another team enters immediately until one team has 3 points.

The Tag Matsuri is always one of the most exciting nights of the year and is always a jolt of energy into the tag team division as there are possibly dozens of points available.  The second big event coming up is the 250th episode of the Animated Wrestling League!!
AWL 250: Golden Anniversary!
October 7th, 2018
MAIN EVENT:
THUGLIFE Tanaka Kenichi (C) vs. Wyvern (#1)
AWL Grand Championship Match
4th Title Defense

But that won’t be the only title on the line at AWL 250:
Akira Merune (C) vs. TBD (#1)
AWL Joshi Championship Match
4th Title Defense
“Why TBD?” I can hear you ask, “Isn’t Joya the #1 contender?”  Well, yes…for now.  That brings us to this weekend at AWL 248:
AWL 248
MAIN EVENT:
Joya (#1) vs. Jackie M. (#2) vs. Yin (#3) vs. Yang(#4)

The TIger's Training Series will continue at AWL 247

A message from Tiger Mask II:

The Tiger’s Training Series isn’t about winning and losing, it’s about learning.  Dark and I need to see what these cubs are made of before we begin the process of making Tigers out of them.  We’ve seen what they can do one on one, and we’re impressed.  They both lasted longer than they should have considering that we weren’t holding back.

Now we need to test their teamwork.  This weekend, they will face Dark and myself two on two.  My thanks to the AWL Commissioner for agreeing to our idea for some positive motivation.

Tiger Mask W (0) vs. Shin Tiger Bros. (0)
Tiger’s Training Series Match #3.
Points in Play
If Shin Tiger Bros. win, they will receive 2 points.

Lots of News! Title Match! Best 4! More!

First, the men’s division:
1. LJ-04
2. Thief Ant
3. Wyvern
4. M-05
Two of Dr. Jigoku’s slaves, a Chikara rookie ant, and the man who beat Tanaka Kenichi for the title the first time.  Not exactly the who’s who of professional wrestling one might hope for.  Even worse, I find myself in the position of actually wanting Tanaka Freaking Kenichi to win a wrestling match!  As bad as he is, Dr. Jigoku controlling the AWL Grand Championship again is FAR worse.  Last time, about a quarter of our roster ended up dead!
Like it or not, the match is going ahead:
AWL 247
MAIN EVENT
THUGLIFE Tanaka Kenichi (C) vs. LJ-04 (#1)
AWL Grand Championship Match
3rd Title Defense

Meanwhile in the Joshi division:
1. Athena Jane
2. Joya
3. Jackie M.
4. TBD
Over the last several weeks, the modern-day amazon has been attacking her fellow wrestlers backstage and after matches.  Obviously, this is not acceptable behavior and she is going to be disciplined.  At AWL 247, Athena Jane will compete in a 2-1 handicap match and her place in the AWL Best 4 is on the line!
Athena Jane (#1) vs. Yin & Yang
Handicap Match
Rank on the Line
More matches to be announced in the coming days.

Full Card for AWL 246

With three huge matches already announced, we could probably call it a day and a match card.  But the AWL doesn’t have to worry about PPV windows or Luchadores who didn’t get the time cue.  So, the AWL Commissioner has announced the full card for AWL 246: Something Something with Cheese.
AWL 246 MAIN EVENT
Liga Cosmica (C) vs. 日本よかった (3)
AWL World Tag Team Championship Match
1st Title Defense

Veterans’ Battle Royal
8-Man Over the Top Rope Battle Royal
All Participants Must Have More Than 3 Years Experience in the AWL
Winner takes the #2 slot.

While the full 8 wrestler roster for this match hasn’t been announced yet, but I can announce that the 4 men who competed in last week’s tag match (Wyvern, Azteckaizer NEO, Hassan, and Tiger Mask II) will be in the Battle Royal.

Rookies’ Battle Royal
8-Man Over the Top Rope Battle Royal
All Participants Must Have Debuted in the AWL in the Past 12 Months
Winner takes the #3 slot.

I have exactly zero information about who’s going to be in this one.  However, I have heard from reliable sources in the AWL offices that one of the participants in this Battle Royal will be making his AWL Debut!

The Empire (0) vs. 日本よかった (山田二郎&一二三隆二) (1)
Points in Play

One of the worst parts of my job is having to guess what the AWL Commissioner is thinking.  Is this match a wat to keep Yamada Jiro and Hifumi Ryuji out of the way so they don’t interfere with the tag team title match?  Or is this two random tag teams thrown together for a mid card tag match?  Frankly, it could be either one, both, or neither.

Tiger Mask II vs. Shin Tiger Jr.
Tiger’s Training Series Match #2

Yes, it’s going to be a long night for Tiger Mask II, but he insisted that the Tiger’s Training Series not be postponed.  Last week, we saw Tiger the Dark teach Black tiger Justice a hard lesson about how far he has to go to earn his stripes.  This week, it’s time for the apprentice of the Golden School of the Tiger Style to learn the same lesson from his sensei.

It’s going be a crowded night with more than 20 wrestlers booked on the card, but that’s the type of action you can expect each and every week from the Animated Wrestling League!

Tag Team Title Match and Battle Royals Announced

AWL 246 MAIN EVENT
Liga Cosmica (C) vs. 日本よかった (3)
AWL World Tag Team Championship Match
1st Title Defense

The luchadores make their first title defense against one of FOUR combinations of Nippon Yokatta that are entered in the AWL tag team division.  This time it’s the sempai charlatan “Liger” and the genuine lunatic Hasaiki.  Can the forces of good overcome the forces of deceit and insanity?  Find out this weekend at AWL 246.

Last weekend, we had a tag team match for two slots in the AWL Best 4…that ended in a time limit draw.  However, there was movement in the championship rankings last weekend.  El Hijo del Majiku is OUT and M-05 is in.  Meaning that the Dorei Corp dominate the Best 4:

AWL Best 4
1. LJ-04
2. TBD
3. TBD
4. M-05
This weekend, we WILL fill those empty slots!  The AWL Commissioner has commissioned TWO Battle Royals to fill the ranks.

Veterans’ Battle Royal
8-Man Over the Top Rope Battle Royal
All Participants Must Have More Than 3 Years Experience in the AWL
Winner takes the #2 slot.

Rookies’ Battle Royal
8-Man Over the Top Rope Battle Royal
All Participants Must Have Debuted in the AWL in the Past 12 Months
Winner takes the #3 slot.

LWP: All In Review

Saturday, September 1, 2018

Full Card for AWL 245.

Hopefully, this will be the last week of these one-post-a-week weeks.  But that's the future and there's no time like the present, so let's take a look at what we have in store this week:

MAIN EVENT
Akira Merune (C) vs. Dragoness (#1)
AWL Joshi Championship Match
3rd Title Defense

Last week, Dragoness was attacked both after her match AND backstage by Athena Jane including a Fall of the Gods on the arena floor.  Fortunately, AWL Senior Medical Offical Dr. Marcus Feelgood has cleared Dragoness to compete in this match.  However, it's my understanding that Dragoness just BARELY made the cut.  I just hope she knows what she's doing.

M-05 vs. El Hijo del Majiku (#1)

Father vs. son.  What else do I need to say?  How about brainwashed zombie slave father vs. son?  Last week the monster formerly known as Ma-Ji-Ku tapped out to Chiba Akagi in an atomicos match.  Dr. Jigoku requested this match both to punish and test M-05.

新時代 (Wyvern & Azteckaizer NEO) vs. Hassan & Tiger Mask II
Fight for 3 & 4
Points NOT in Play

One of the most unusual tag matches in the AWL.  Since we have two open slots in the AWL Best 4, the winner of this tag team match will take the #3 position and their partner will take the #4 position.

Tiger the Dark vs. Black Tiger Justice
Tiger's Training Series Match #1

Three days ago, Tiger Mask W officially petitioned the AWL Commissioner to set up a set of 5 matches to train their two stripe-less students.  In the first match, the Master of the Black Tiger School takes his student to the proverbial wood shed.

Just a Lot of Ants (1) vs. 日本よかった ("Liger" and 破砕機) (1)
2 Point/20 Minute Match

After a time limit draw in last week's cold open, there are 2 points available in this match.  Since both teams come into the bout with one point, this is a defacto #1 contender's match with a title shot against Liga Cosmica on the line.
