Full Card for AWL 271

All the energy here at AWL HQ is focused on Sakuramania Wrestlegenesis, but we must not forget AWL 271 this weekend.

AWL 271:
MAIN EVENT:
Team Jigoku vs. Purosentai Resuranger
In a 4-Match Series!
At Sakuramania Wrestlegenesis, lives and destinies, masks and medals, will all be on the line in Lucha de Apuestas.  This week the members of both teams are set to face each other in a series of one on one contests.  This will, at least, serve to confirm the members of both rosters going into the match next week.

Big Jerry vs. Air Wolf
The challenger for the British Openweight Championship faces the tag team partner of his opponent in this warm up match for Sakuramania Wrestlegenesis.  This match will be contested under AWL Rules.

Ganba Hisshi DARK set for action!
The AWL Grand Champion has requested a warm up match of his own before his title defense against Sammy Nix next weekend.  Personally, I can’t help but think of this as a terrible idea.

There you have it, a short and simple “go-home” show for the Supercard.  See you tomorrow for this week’s action packed episode of the Animated Wrestling League.

Full Card for AWL Supercard: Sakuramania Wrestlegenesis 2019!

The first of two spring Supercards (and the last of the Heisei Era) is just a week and a half away.  Not only will three championships be on the line, but a MASSIVE Lucha de Apuestas will change the landscape of the AWL one way or another.

AWL Supercard: Sakuramania Wrestlegenesis 2019!
MAIN EVENT
Ganba Hisshi Dark (C) vs. Sammy Nix (#1)
AWL Grand Championship Match
1st Title Defense
The Demon from The Pit has taken control of the AWL Grand Championship.  The only member of the AWL Best 4 who doesn’t work for Dr. Jigoku will try and take it back.  But now that Ganba and Gisei control the most powerful prize in the AWL, what new dark powers will the former hero bring forth from the pit?

The Dorei Corps vs. Purosentai Resurangers
Lucha de Apuestas
Mascara contra Oportunidad de Oro
You all saw the gauntlet being thrown down last weekend.  Well, the challenge has been accepted.  At Sakuramania Wrestlegenesis it will be an Atomicos ELIMINATION MATCH!  The Dorei Corps will wager their control masks against the Golden Opportunity Resu Red won in the Contractual Obligation Rumble back in January.  That means that we could get Wyvern, Hakaisha, Doombunny, and Ma-Ji-Ku back!  On the other hand, Dr. Jigoku’s forces could utterly dominate the AWL Grand Championship picture.
By special order of the AWL Commissioner, this match will have a special 60 minute time limit.  The only mystery remaining is the line-up.  As you’ll see below, Resu Yellow already has a match in the Joshi Division and can’t compete.  That leaves only 3 male members of the team.  So, who will be the 4th man?  Hopefully, we’ll find out at some point this week.

Queens of Wrestling (C) vs. Purosentai Resurangers (3)
AWL Joshi Tag Team Championship Match
2nd Title Defense
The first ever 4 way tag team elimination match in AWL history resulting in the ultimate victory as Resu Yellow and Resu Pink picked up 3 points in 1 match.  This will be their title opportunity.  A rematch from the finals of the Joshi Tag Team Title Tournament.

Shynron (C) vs. Big Jerry
British Openweight Championship Match
World of Sport Rules
2 Falls, 2 Submissions, or a Knockout in 10 Rounds
1st Title Defense
The authorities over in the UK have authorized another match for the British Openweight Title on Japanese soil.  This time Big Jerry, the tag team partner of the former champion Frederick Victor, will try and bring the gold back to The Empire.  This match will be contested in 5 minute rounds.
It’s only a week and change away.  However, AWL 271 is still coming up this weekend.  Hopefully I’ll have the card for that event tomorrow.

Full Card for AWL 270

Sorry for the slow news week, it’s a busy time of the year here in Japan.  New employees to hire and train up, retiring employees to say goodbye to, and more drinking parties than I can remember.  But enough office drama, let’s get to the wrestling!  This is the full card for AWL 270, the mid-point of Season 14:
AWL 270:
MAIN EVENT
H-03 vs. Project Tetsu 2.0 vs. TBD
3-Way Reshuffle Match
Winner challenges at Sakuramania Wrestlegenesis!
That’s right, our April Supercard is only a couple of weeks away and we need a challenger for Ganba Hisshi Dark and his AWL Grand Championship.  Unfortunately, Tiger Mask II is not currently medically cleared to compete after injuries he suffered in the gauntlet match a couple of weeks ago.  So the remaining members of the AWL Best 4 (including one to be determined earlier in the evening) will fight each other with the last man standing named the #1 contender.

Liga Cosmica (0) vs. Nippon Yokatta (0)
Points in Play
That’s right!  Liga Cosmica are back together!  The Gold Star of Lucha Libre Estrella Dorada has been cleared to compete!!  He an AWL IC Champion Erupcion Solar will team together for the first time in nearly a season at AWL 270.  They will face the two members of Nippon Yokatta who were victorious in singles action last week: Hasaiki and Hifumi Ryuji.

Monster Union: Unholy Alliance vs. Ying & Yang (1) vs. The Augments (1) vs. Purosentai Resurangers
Joshi Tag Team 4-Way Elimination Match
Points in Play!
For the first time in AWL history, 4 tag teams will enter the AWL ring.  Every team you eliminate counts as a point for your team.  The last team standing walks away with whatever points they’ve earned.  However, all three losing teams will lose any points they earn in the match AND any points they walked in with.  The risks are high, but so are the rewards.  If a team can run the table, they’ll earn 3 points in one match and earn themselves a shot at the Queens of Wrestling and the AWL Joshi Tag Team Titles.
By order of the AWL Commissioner, this match will have an extended 20-minute time limit.

Sammy Nix vs. W-01
Fight for 4
Remember that TBD in the main event?  Well, this is how we D.  (That sounded much less dirty in my head.)  Two former AWL Grand Champions will compete for the right to wrestle again in the main event for the chance to wrestle again at Sakuramania Wrestlegenesis for the AWL Grand Championship.  (Nobody can argue that AWL Wrestlers don’t earn their title shots.)
Unfortunately, the win-loss records are such that the AWL Commissioner had no choice but to put W-01 in this match.  If the Dorei-Corps member wins, that means a 100% chance of the Forces of Dr. Jigoku getting the title shot.

That’s it for this week.  Stay tuned to this blog for all the news and information you need about the Animated Wrestling League!

Here we go again.

This weekend, Kid Canada defends the AWL Grand Championship against Ganba Hisshi Dark…again.

Kid Canada:
Sorry Ganba, but I’m not scared.  Pull all the hocus pocus BS you like, it’s not going to work on me, eh?  I have been through hell both personally and professionally.  It doesn’t affect me.  Because once I step foot inside that ring, I’m in MY world!  I am the one in control, not you, not your pet demon, not ANYBODY!  I am the boss and I!  Write!  My!  Own!  Story!!
In fact, I have asked Hassan to stay home this weekend.  He needs to spend more time with his family anyway.  I can handle you one on one.  But I know you’re too much of a coward to leave Gisei back in whatever hole he crawled out of, eh?  So, I’m just going to beat you both!

Ryusensei here again.  Neither Ganba Hisshi DARK nor Gesei were available for comment.

Injury Reports and Tag Team Promos

Let’s start with the bad news.  AWL Senior Medical Official Dr. Marcus Feelgood has announced that Tiger Mask II has an undisclosed neck injury and is not cleared to compete or appear at ringside for the foreseeable future.  While the exact details of this injury are unknown for privacy reasons, it’s not hard to infer that the two sit-out tombstone piledrivers Tiger Mask II took from Ganba Hisshi DARK last weekend had something to do with it.  Tiger Mask II is still in the AWL Best 4 and will remain so unless he is unable to make his scheduled title match.  That should give him some time to recover, let’s hope it’s enough.

In other tiger related news, I’m happy to turn this blog over to representatives of the champions and challengers in this weekend’s tag team title match.

Nippon Yokatta (Translated from the original Japanese by the AWL Translation Team…under protest):
Yamada Jiro:
Eight years ago, a great tragedy struck our country.  Thousands died and many more lost everything.  But there was one saving grace.  One light in our national darkness.  The gaijin ran like the cowardly dogs that they are!  Hundreds of them scampered back to their countries as if someone had stepped on their tails.  For a brief moment, Japan was whole and pure.  One nation, one people, united by common struggle.  But some of the gaijin remained and more soon joined them.  The infestation spread.
But this weekend, we start the removal all over again.  Black Tiger Justice, you will run like all filthy cowards run from the true strength and greatness of the Japanese soul.  And we will bring the World’s Tag Team Titles home.  And our lost brother Shin Tiger Jr. along with them.

Tiger Brothers:
Spring Tiger:
I regret confirming that RyuSensei is correct.  Tiger Mask II is out of action for a while.  But that’s a problem for another day.  Today and this weekend in the AWL Arena we celebrate the rise of a new generation.  A Tiger’s Generation.  And those old fogeys are going to be the first victims of the best tiger team I have ever seen!

SECOND Title Match Announced for AWL 269!

AWL 269 will feature TWO championship bouts!  In addition to the Grand Championship Match already announced, the AWL World’s Tag Team Titles will be defended.  That means that, after weeks of waiting, we will finally see the debut of the all-new and complete Tiger Brothers!
Cubs and students no longer, Shin Tiger Jr. and Black Tiger JUSTICE have spent the weeks since winning their tag team titles in seclusion in the Tiger’s Cave completing the rituals and ceremonies necessary to become full tigers.  The first cubs to EVER receive such a promotion under the Unified School of the Tiger Style!  They will make their in-ring debut next weekend at AWL 269.
They will defend against the team of Yamada Jiro and “Liger” of Nippon Yokatta who won their third point last weekend.  I’d hate for this young tag team so focused on unity and progress be defeated in their first defense by a couple of xenophobes.

AWL Grand Championship Match Announced!

The AWL Commissioner has confirmed that Ganba Hisshi DARK will, after successfully running the gauntlet, have a rematch for the AWL Grand Championship at AWL 269.  Two weeks ago, Ganba was scheduled to face the Grand Champion, but through the dark magics of the demon Gisei, that turned into a hellacious mess…literally.
I ran a quick check in the archive, and you have to go back to AWL 256 back in November of 2018 to find Ganba’s last pinfall loss.  And that was in a 4-way Reshuffle Match.  I’ve been unable to find a single instance of Ganba Hisshi DARK losing a 1-on-1 match.
Good luck Kid.  You’re going to need it.

Joshi Tag Team Promos

For the first time ever, it is my pleasure to turn this final post of the week over to the champions and challengers in this weekend’s Joshi Tag Team Championship Match.

Modern-Day Warriors:

Athena Jane (Translated from the original Greek by the AWL Translation Team): No more hiding Merune.  The AWL Commissioner has been protecting you from me for almost a year.  But now I’m coming for BOTH of your belts.  I’ll ground you into hamburger for the Joshi title another day.  But this weekend, the only woman strong enough to stand by my side will help me strip away not only the Joshi Tag Team Titles, but your precious undefeated streak as well!

Queens of Wrestling:

Akira Merune (Translated from the original Japanese by the AWL Translation Team):  Let me be clear.  I am not afraid of anyone.  I don’t care how big you are, how strong you are, or how much you like to bully people.  You are no match for either of us.  Next to myself, Dragoness has the best win-loss record in the Joshi Division and since we became a tag team, I’ve been training her in the fine art of submission wrestling.  That means they either one of us have MORE than it takes to tap either of you two muscle heads out.  And at AWL 268, in the main event, we’re going to do just that.  Your time is up!

British Protests and Flying Kings

All week the former British Openweight Champion Frederick Victor has been complaining and protesting to anyone who will listen both here in Japan and in his home country of the UK about losing his title to Shynron last week.
Calling it “worse than Brexit” Victor has been demanding a rematch despite the fact he’s never beaten Shynron…at anything…ever.  In fact, he’s never won a single fall against the Spirit Dragon.  Fortunately, nobody is listening to him.  However, mainly to shut him up, the AWL Commissioner has agreed to put Shynron and Frederick Victor back in the ring together.  Only this time it will be in a tag team match.
For his first ever tag match in the AWL, Shynron has reached out to a fellow Chikara Rey de Voladores winner.  So, this weekend, get ready for the AWL Debut of: AIR WOLF!

Historic match set for AWL 268

Last weekend, The Modern-Day Warriors earned their 3rd point by defeating Monster Union’s Unholy Alliance.  Therefore, it is my pleasure to announce for the first time in AWL history…
AWL 268
MAIN EVENT
Queens of Wrestling (C) vs. The Modern-Day Warriors (3)
AWL Joshi Tag Team Championship Match
1st Title Defense

As always, one half of the Joshi Tag Team Champions and reigning Joshi Champion, Akira Merune’s undefeated streak is on the line in this match as well as the Joshi Tag Team Gold.  It’s also worth remembering that Athena Jane of the Modern-Day Warriors is the current #1 contender to Akira Merune’s singles championship.

What the hell happened?

Ok wrestling fans, I’m going to level with you.  I have no idea what happened at the end of AWL 267.  While my monitor at commentary cut out as soon as Gisei used that freaky stone of his.  But apparently some sort of footage WAS being broadcast at that time.  I’m sorry if any of the images shown weren’t up to our usual broadcast standards.
More importantly, the AWL Commissioner has invalidated the match and officially ruled it a no-contest.  Kid Canada is still your AWL Grand Champion and Ganba Hisshi DARK is still the #1 contender in the AWL Best 4…
…at least until this weekend.  The AWL Commissioner has decreed that Ganba Hisshi DARK will have to defend his #1 contendership against ALL THREE MEMBERS of the AWL Best 4…in a GAUNTLET MATCH!

Words from a very Canadian champion and a very un-Canadian demon.

While I am normally opposed in principle to cavorting with demons, I make exceptions in professional circumstances.  So, here’s the…representative (?) of the winner of the 2019 New Year’s Tournament and #1 Contender to the AWL Grand Championship.

Gisei: My Master comes to fulfill His destiny.  The Pact grants him the Power to save the AWL…from itself.  Weak champions, invading monsters, ineffectual “heroes.”  Once the mighty Ganba Hisshi DARK is the Grand Champion, His greatness will spread to every corner of the Wrestling world…on the Devil’s Wings.

Kid Canada:  Sorry, but I never believed in demons even as a kid, eh?  Sorry, but whatever Gisei is and whatever weird marde he’s gotten himself mixed up in, it doesn’t matter to me, eh?  Sorry, but my duty is clear, eh?  Sorry, I’m going to out wrestle you this weekend pure and simple, eh?  Sorry, but leave the Halloween stuff in America, eh?
