24 Hours Until AWL 86

OK internet, as you all know by now, the AWL is going on a hopefully short hiatus while I move to the next town over.  The break should hopefully be only a week or so, once I get the new apartment hooked up for the internet, I should be back up and running.

But if we're going on a break, we're going to go on a break in STYLE!!  Tomorrow you will see not one, not two, but ALL THREE AWL Championships defended at AWL 86.

1. MAIN EVENT:
HAKAISHIA! (C) vs. Ganba--AWL World Heavyweight Championship Match

Stage two of Yarina's evil plan to switch the belt back to Wonder Kid is in full swing, but the former 3 time AWL World Heavyweight Champion Ganba has no intention of seeing the AWL World Heavyweight Title disgraced like that.  It's going to be power vs. technique and politics vs. heart at AWL 86.

2. Semi-Final:
Big & Spicy (C) vs. The All Americans (3)--AWL World Tag Team Championship Match

For the first time in Season 5, a team has earned the necessary 3 points to challenge for the AWL World Tag Team Titles.  After the return of the Once and Future King of Spice last week, the champs are fired up and ready to go but the Americans are not going to be an easy fight.

3. Ma-Ji-Ku (C) vs. Shin Tora--AWL World Light Heavyweight Championship Match

This match is about as simple as it gets.  Ma-Ji-Ku beat Shin Tora two weeks ago to win the title.  Last week, Shin Tora beat Ma-Ji-Ku in a non-title match.  Tomorrow, the rubber match with the title on the line.

But of course, we've also got some awesome action in store for you on the undercard including an Indy wrestling dream match.

4. Matt Classic vs. "Lightning" Mike Quackenbush

With Matt's retirement looming closer and closer, there is only so long we can hope to enjoy matches like this one as The Master of a Thousand Holds faces The Man Who Invented All Those Freaking Holds.

5. The Technicos (2) vs. Dragon & James (0) --2 Points on the Line--15 Minute Time Limit

As a result of the time limit draw two weeks ago, this match is worth 2 points toward title contention and in an effort to prevent a second draw, the AWL Commissioner has authorized an extra 5 minutes for this match.

It looks like an all-star card and I hope you'll join me in 24 hours for AWL 86!

Warning: Temporal disruption imminent!

Dear AWL fans,

I'm sorry to report that the AWL will soon be going on a one to two week hiatus.  I will be moving to a new apartment the last week of March and obviously this means a lot of stuff has to get done on top of my real job and the AWL.  That means that something has to give for the time being and that's the AWL.

AWL 86 has already been filmed and will be posted this weekend. After that, we will be off air until early to mid April.  After which the rest of Season 5 should continue uninterrupted.

Thank you for your consideration.

AWL 85 Preview!

Good day to you wrestling fans around the world! Ryusensei here with this week's AWL line up. Lacing up the boots for AWL 85 will be:

MAIN EVENT:
Ganba, Dragon, & Luke James vs. HAKAISHA, Wonder Kid, and Jack Butcher.
Special Trios Match: NO TIME LIMIT!

After what happened last week, the AWL Commissioner lost no time in booking this special 6-man tag team match. The scheduled AWL World Title Match between HAKAISHA & Ganba has been postponed until AWL 86. Because of the personal issues involved here, the AWL Commissioner has waved the time limit rule, allowing these 6 men all the time in the world to settle their differences in the ring. In the event that this match exceeds our 1 hour video window, the conclusion of the match will be shown in it's entirety as the first segment of AWL 86.

Semi Final:
Shin Tora w/Tiger Mask vs. Ma-Ji-Ku w/El Santo Azul.
Non-Title Match.

After an embarrassing loss in less that 4 minutes, Shin Tora has requested and been granted this opportunity to save face. Remember, there are NO automatic rematches in the AWL so this will be a non-title match. However, should Shin Tora pin the AWL World Light Heavyweight Champion, that would obviously put the new tiger right back in the title picture.

3. "Lightning" Mike Quackenbush vs. Wolf.

Last week the AWL was graced with the addition of The Master of a Thousand Holds to our ranks. However, in his first AWL match, Quackenbush was pinned by the inhuman fighting machine known as Wolf. However, that was a 4-Corners Match, this weekend Quack will get a chance to show what he can do against his exact opposite: It'll be The Master of a Thousand Holds vs. The Master of None.

4. Matt Classic Retirement Tour:
Matt Classic vs. "Big" Ben Nelson.

With less than 20 AWL episodes left in Matt Classic's career, every last one is a special event. This week he faces he current #2 Contender to the AWL World Heavyweight Championship. The British Brawler who has been all but hiding in e shadows for the last 6 months. This is Nelson's chance to step out into the lime light and stake his claim as an AWL Main Eventer.

5. The All Americans (2) vs. X & X (0)
Points on the Line!

The AWL Commissioner has decided to expand the AWL Tag Team Division and has brought in two new wrestlers who will be granted a HUGE opportunity. The chance to not only earn their first point toward title contention, but to knock the All Americans back down to zero. If there's a better way to make a first impression in the tag team division, I'd like to hear it. As for the All Americans, this is no guaranteed slam dunk for them. This is one big unknown and a serious gamble that they are being forced to take in order to earn their title shot.

Who will win? Who will lose? You'll have to tune in to find out!

Preview of AWL 84

Ladies and gentlemen, it is my sad duty to inform you that Ultramantis Black is no longer with the AWL. During his match last week with HAKAISHA and the subsequent attack by YTM Inc, Ultramantis Black sustained severe injuries and had to be stretchered out of the AWL Arena. Unfortunately, he doesn't have any Japanese health insurance (a violation of AWL policy), and has therefore returned to the United States where he now has coverage thanks to the American ACA law. We thank Ultramantis Black for his work in the AWL over the past year and the door is more than open for him to return in the future. However, I've heard from reliable sources the Ultramantis Black wishes to focus his efforts on the upcoming return of CHIKARA on May 25th. All of us here at the AWL are CHIKARA fans and are certainly looking forward to that event. With UMB gone, that's the last of the CHIKARA Refugees, but don't be surprised if more talent from the CHIKARA roster appears in the AWL sooner or later.

However, the AWL must move forward and we have a NEW AWL World Heavyweight Champion in HAKAISHA! The youngest champion in the history of the AWL, HAKAISHA is part on of Yarina's brazen scheme to get the title back on her chosen champion Wonder Kid. Hopefully HAKAISHA has enough respect for the championship that, if the match happens, he won't just hand the title to Wonder Kid the way Yarina wants him to. I know it's not my job to editorialize like this, but HAKAISHA, you are the AWL World Heavyweight Champion! That MEANS something to every single member of this roster. Please respect that if you respect nothing else.

But back on topic, the Commissioner's office has sent me the card for this weekend's AWL 84 event and it looks to be VERY interesting indeed.

MAIN EVENT:
Shin Tora (C) vs. Ma-Ji-Ku—AWL World Light Heavyweight Championship Match.
Ma-Ji-Ku did the unthinkable last week and handed CM Punk his first regular season loss in the AWL. As a result, Shin Tora's second defense of the AWL World Light Heavyweight Title will be against the man who held it for nearly 2 years! This should be one hell of a match and more than worthy of being the main event.

Semi Final:
Ganba vs. Tanaka Kenichi
Since Kenichi can't seem to stay away from the AWL Arena even when under suspension, the AWL Commissioner (after some strongly worded requests from Ganba) has decided to give Mr. Tanaka exactly what he wants, a rematch with the Japanese Megastar. Ganba defeated Tanaka Kenichi fair and square in a surprisingly competitive match at National Pro Wrestling Day before Tanaka low-blowed Ganba in a dishonorable attack that set up everything that's lead to this match. Hopefully, AWL 84 will be the end of this feud.

The Technicos (2) vs. Dragon & James (0)
Matt Classic will be in the corner of his team as he continues toward his Golden Watch Match against the AWL World Heavyweight Champion at AWL 100. The Techincos are one win away from a title shot at Big & Spicy and the AWL World Tag Team Championships. Dragon & James, on the other hand, are just looking to get on the board.

Wolf vs. Tiny vs. Hassan vs. ????—Fight for 4.
The AWL Best 4 currently looks like this:
1. Ganba
2. Ben Nelson
3. Wonder Kid
4. ????
Obviously we have to fill in the gap and this match is how we're going to do it. The three revealed names are based off the current AWL Win-Loss records. As for the mystery wrestler? I have no idea and we'll find out together at AWL 84.

Tiger Mask vs. El Santo Azul.
There's no great story behind this match, the AWL Commissioner just wanted to keep both the tag team partners busy so nobody gets any bright ideas about interfering with the main event.

AWL 84 looks like it will be a night of high stakes and high quality action. Be sure to be there for the best professional wrestling on the internet: The Animated Wrestling League.
