Words from Champion and Challenger('s Manager)

In less than 24 hours, the AWL Grand Championship will be on the line in the main event of AWL 305.  We got some last minute thoughts from the camps of both champion and challenger going into this epic clash of the titans.

Azteckaizer NEO (Translated from the original Japanese by the AWL Translation Team):
It was never my goal to be champion.  I came to the AWL to protect the wrestling world from the Forces of Jigoku.  Thanks to the Star of Aztec we have wiped out his Dorei Corps.  Now it’s time to end his threat once and for all.  His two most powerful Augments are in line for title matches.  That gives me the chance I’ve needed.  Come monsters and machines.  I’m ready for you.

Dr. Jigoku (Speaking on behalf of Project ):
Forgive the crude vernacular, but you aren’t ready for shit!  This is no longer an experiment.  This is WAR!  I’m sick of all these INFERIOR goodie goodie types running around saying they’re going to “save the AWL” from me.  I’m the best thing that has ever happened to this pathetic company.  Without my genius there would BE no AWL!  But no matter, I wouldn’t expect a confederation of fools like the AWL fans to understand their betters.  I will have to force the matter.  Soon, I will have my rightful due!  This weekend, the plan comes together!

NEXT SUPERCARD!

The AWL Commissioner has announced the next AWL Supercard:
AWL SUPERCARD: Sakuramania Wrestlegenesis 2020!
Date: April 1st, 2020
Place: AWL Arena

Yep, April 1st.  Get all the April Fool’s Day jokes out of your system now please.  Done?  Great!  No specific matches have been announced for this card, but we DO know that the AWL Grand Championship will be defended in the main event!  Expect more details to be announced over the couple of weeks.

Well, this is going to be awkward.

Double identities require double responsibilities.  Since the latter days of last season, El Hijo Del Majiku has competed in a tag team with his father called Familia.  They’ve had some success including challenging for the AWL World’s Tag Team Titles.  However, the son of Ma-Ji-Ku has also maintained his membership in Hassan’s Sekai-Gun as their Mexican representative.
This is either a hilarious fluke of the tag team division schedule or the AWL Commissioner has developed a sense of humor.  I’m no sure which scares me more:

Sekai-Gun (1) vs. Familia (0)
Points in Play

El Hijo del Majiku will team with his father against his coworkers.  They say blood is thicker than water, but is it thicker than points in a professional wrestling tag division?

That sounded a lot better in my head.

Return of an Old Style

Greetings wrestling fans!  RyuSensei here at the start of a BIG week for the AWL.  This weekend at AWL 305, the Grand Championship is on the line as hero meets monster in the squared circle.
Additionally, a semifinal match has just been signed that promises to be a spectacle for any and all fans of scientific wrestling:
Jessica Kidd vs. Akira Merune
World of Sport Rules
2 falls, 2 submissions, or a KO in 5 rounds of 5 minutes

As we all know, Jessica Kidd is the daughter of one of the greatest practitioners of this classic British style of professional wrestling and this will be her first WoS Rules Match in the AWL.  According to my sources, it was Akira Merune who requested this match.  Two weeks ago, Kidd forced Akira to tap out to the octopus hold to win the Joshi Tag Team Titles.  For a submission master to lose via submission is an embarrassment so this match, which favors submission and technical wrestling, will be a great chance for revenge.

In other Joshi Division news, there has been a vacany in the AWL Best 4 for a number of weeks and we’re finally getting around to filling it:
Usa-Chan vs. Athena Jane
Fight for 4
This will be Usa-Chan’s first chance to get back into the
Best 4 since injury forced her to give up her spot.  Athena Jane will be a tough mountain to climb, but if anyone can do it, it’s the bunny girl.

Jigoku makes demands

The AWL Commissioner owes me a match.  Last I looked, the rule was that if you defeat a champion in a non-title match, you earn the right to challenge for that title.  Well, my personal destroyer defeated Hassan in the New Year’s Tournament on his way to total victory.  Yet, no title match!  Now, I wouldn’t want to accuse the AWL Commissioner of breaking his own rules to accommodate his…OBSOLEETE…human wrestlers.  No, no, no.
The Commissioner’s little sycophants claim that my creation’s status as a member of the AWL Best 4 “precludes him from competing” for the Intercontinental Title.  Pretending I believe that for a moment, fine!  I propose a compromise.  If one of my creations cannot challenge for that fancy new belt, another one will.
I demand a match at AWL 304 for the Intercontinental Championship: Hassan vs. DB-02!  The Dorei Corps experiment has run it’s course anyway.  May as well see if the dumb bunny is still worth anything to me.

#1 Contender's Match Confirmed

While the Joshi Tag Team Title Match announced yesterday will naturally take it’s place as the main event of AWL 304, there’s still the matter of the #1 Contendership to the AWL Grand Championship.  As announced by the AWL Commissioner himself, two stablemates will face off one on one with SEVERE consequences if they decide to give anything less than their best effort.
Project Tetsu vs. Jigoku DESTROY
#1 Contender’s Match for the AWL Grand Championship
All Other Augments BARRED from Ringside.
If either competitor refuses to compete, BOTH will be immediately FIRED!

The winner of this match will challenge Azteckaizer
NEO for the AWL Grand Championship at AWL 305.  This match will be Azteckaizer NEO’s 5th title defense.  A victory would place him in a three way tie for most title defenses in a single reign with Project Tetsu and (shockingly) Thug Life Tanaka Kenichi.

GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY TO BE CASHED IN!

Chaos erupted at AWL HQ today when we the following message arrived in our inboxes:

This message translated from the original Japanese by the AWL Translation Team:
When you are granted a privilege, either by your own hard work or by a fluke of chance, you have a moral duty to use that privilege to help others.  Sometimes that means helping the less fortunate and sometimes it means helping the friends who got you to where you are today.
In that spirit, I’m cashing in my Golden Opportunity to help my partner ResuPINK become a champion.  We challenge UK Gen2 for the AWL Joshi Tag Team Championships!  Jessica, Emily, consider yourselves fairly warned.

--ResuYELLOW

Well, that’s that then.  Normally, I would wait for confirmation from the AWL Commissioner before reporting something as important as a title match.  But the rules of the Golden Opportunity are such that the AWL Commissioner doesn’t get a voice in this one.  Therefore:

UK Gen2 (C) vs. Puro Sentai Resurangers (GO)
AWL Joshi Tag Team Championship Match
1st Title Defense

Two Title Matches Set for AWL 303

With all the excitement around the Reshuffle Match last weekend and the AWL Commissioner’s announcement yesterday, it’s easy to forget that we have two championship matches set for this weekend’s AWL 302 event including the debut of a BRAND NEW CHAMPIONSHIP BELT!!
Hassan (C) vs. Chiba Akagi
AWL Intercontinental Championship Match
1st Title Defense
Hassan has privately commissioned a brand new IC title belt.  He’s been tight lipped about it and NOBODY including his Sekai-gun teammates have actually seen the thing.  All I’ve been able to pry out of him is that the new belt “Uses state of the art championship technology.”
After last week we also have new #1 contenders for the Joshi Tag Team Championship and that match will also take place at AWL 303:

Queens of Wrestling (C) vs. UK Gen2 (3)
AWL Joshi Tag Team Championship Match
1st Title Defense
With the demise of The Empire, the second generation British Joshi wrestlers need this win to pick up the pieces of their careers and move forward into Season 16.  On the other hand, the Queens of Wrestling have been proven vulnerable and losing their first defense of this reign with the tag team titles would be the final nail of their status as the top two of the Joshi Division.

AWL Commissioner Rules on Reshuffle Match

Good evening ladies and gentlemen, I am the AWL Commissioner.
It has been a long time since I have needed to make a public statement regarding happenings in the Animated Wrestling League, so please forgive me if I seem somewhat out of practice at this.

Last weekend during episode 302 of The Animated Wrestling League, The Augments known as Project Tetsu and Jigoku DESTROY refused to continue a four way Reshuffle Match once they became the final two competitors.  As a result, Animated Wrestling League Senior Official Joey Babaganoush declared the match a no-contest.  As always, the referee’s decision is final and sacrosanct.  Senior Official Babaganoush was completely within his rights to make this most unusual call.  As a result, the two falls that did take place in the reshuffle match shall NOT be counted in the Animated Wrestling League Win-Loss Records.

However, while all action within the ring is the sole responsibility of the referee, responsibility for the Animated Wrestling League Best 4 Rankings lies solely with me.  ResuRED and Tiger Mask II did lose valid pinfalls and double teaming is legal in a Reshuffle Match.  Therefore, I see no reason not to alter the Best 4 Rankings to reflect those results.  The current Best 4 Rankings are as follows:

1. TBD
2. TBD
3. Tiger Mask II
4. ResuRED

As for the top two positions, there will be a match between the two Augments who refused to continue their match.  However, it shall not take place next weekend.  I’m instating a 1 week cooling off period.  Project Tetsu and Jigoku DESTROY are hereby suspended without pay until Animated Wrestling League Episode 304.  At which time the following match will take place:

Project Tetsu vs. Jigoku DESTROY
#1 Contender’s Match for the AWL Grand Championship
All Other Augments BARRED from Ringside.
If either competitor refuses to compete, BOTH will be immediately FIRED!

Do not push me Jigoku!  THIS!  I have COMMISSIONED!!!

Another #1 Contender to be Determined

We already have the IC #1 Contender’s Match scheduled for two days from now at AWL 302.  This morning we learned that there will be a SECOND match to decide the top contender for a championship at this weekend’s show:

Tiger Mask II (#1) vs. ResuRED (#2) vs. Project Tetsu (#3) vs. Jigoku DESTROY (#4)
Reshuffle Match
Winner challenges Azteckaizer NEO at AWL 303!

This match will be the main event of AWL 302.  3 falls to a finish.  The loser of the 1st fall becomes #4, the loser of the 2nd fall becomes #3, the loser of the final fall becomes #2, and the winner of the whole darn thing  becomes the #1 Contender.

It’s also worth noting that Jigoku DESTROY (f.k.a. H-03, f.k.a. HAKAISHA!) has 99 career wins in the AWL.  Will the be the match that tips him over the edge to become the first wrestler in AWL History to obtain 100 victories?  Tune in this Sunday and find out!

Dragon on Dragon Violence!

Back at the Contractual Obligation Rumble, we were treated to a tantalizing taste of The Young Dragon and The Spirit Dragon across the ring from each other.  Apparently, the AWL Commissioer felt the same way the rest of us did, that this match MUST happen and soon.  Soon will be this weekend at AWL 302:

Wyvern vs. Shynron

Tune in tomorrow as we announce the main event for AWL 302!

Two Joshi Tag Team Matches Announced

This weekend at AWL 302, the Joshi Tag Team Division will be well represented:

Modern Day Warriors (1) vs. UK Gen2 (2)
Points in Play
UK Gen2 is the team formerly known as The Empire.  Jessica Kidd & Emily Nagasaki may not be allowed to use The Empire’s music or logos anymore, but since they didn’t lose the Faction War, they not only kept their jobs, but the right to team together in the AWL Joshi Tag Team Division.  Furthermore, they’re sitting on 2 points so a victory here earns them a title match against the Queens of Wrestling.

Puro Sentai Resuranger (0) vs. The Augments (0)
Points in Play
Last weekend, ResuYELLOW showed that their gender shifting powers have made her the first woman in AWL History to have access to a Golden Opportunity!  This weekend, the heroes fight the monsters as PSRR take on the mad science of Dr. Jigoku!

IC Title News and Rumors CONFIRMED!

Rumors have been circulating for weeks that AWL Intercontinental Champion Hassan has commissioned a NEW IC title belt that will debut in the near future.  Well, this weekend I got personal confirmation from The Arab American Dream himself:

“Yeah, it’s true.  I have no idea who let it slip but yes, I’m having a new belt made.  Our victory over WWE was years ago and it doesn’t make sense to keep carrying around their belt when they don’t even used that design any more.  So, the old AWL (and formerly WWE) IC strap is going on a shelf in my house and the new AWL IC Title will be making it’s debut the next time I walk to the ring to defend it.
I designed the new belt myself and man, it’s the coolest belt anyone’s seen in years!  Trust me.”
--Hassan

Speaking of the IC title, the AWL Commissioner has announced a #1 Contender’s Match for the IC Championship at next weekend’s AWL 302 event:

Chiba Akagi vs. Erupcion Solar
AWL IC #1 Contender’s Match

Matchmaking 101 if you ask me.  Both of these wrestlers
picked up singles victories at the Season 16 premier last weekend, so it’s only fair they be rewarded with an opportunity to fight for a title.

Tag Team Championship Promos.

As is customary whenever we have a championship on the line in the main event of an AWL episode, we turn over the final blog post of the week to the champions and challengers.  This weekend, the reigning and 31st World’s Tag Team Champions the Flying Yukis will defend their titles against the 22nd World’s Tag Team Champions Tiger Mask W.  All these comments have been translated into English by the AWL Translation Team.

Tiger Mask W:
Tiger Mask II: At the Contractual Obligation Rumble, the wrestling gods pitted us against each other.  Ever since, we’ve been hearing about the “dissention in the ranks of the Unified School of the Tiger Style.”  Well, nothing could be further from the truth.  We’ve been partners, we’ve been rivals, we’ve held titles together, and we’ve held titles with other partners.  There is NOTHING that can drive us apart.  And it’s that bond that’s going to take us back to the top of the mountain as the AWL Tag Team Champions of the World.
Tiger the Dark: Friend.  Foe.  Gold.  Black.  Stand across the ring from us and you will see how darkness falls.

The Flying Yukis:
Hiroyuki Shota: We have nothing but respect for the name Tiger Mask.  We grew up watching you and your predecessors in the Tiger Mask Dynasty.  We were just starting out in the AWL Dojo when we learned that the Golden Tiger and the Black Tiger were joining forces and we both had the same thought, “If that works, they’re going to be unbeatable.”  Tomorrow, we hope we we’re wrong.  Tomorrow, our story continues.
FLASH Nobuyuki: Oh man ENOUGH WITH THE MUTUAL AMERATION SOCIETY!  WE’RE THE CHAMPS, WE’RE THE CHAMPS and that means WE.  ARE.  THE.  BEST.  TAG TEAM in the entire WORLD!  Tomorrow at AWL 301, in the MAIN EVENT!  Those kittens are going to be gone…IN A FLASH!
Hiroyuki Shota: You’ve been working on that catchphrase for some time, haven’t you?
FLASH Nobuyuki: YEP!
