At the corner of pro wrestling and crime drama

Greeting wrestling fans.

I find myself in an unusual situation today.  I normally make a policy to never intrude on the private lives of the AWL Roster.  You, the fans, are concerned primarily with their professional lives and I doubt you really care what Matt Classic Jr. eats for dinner after a show (if you do care, he eats a lot of ramen).

But today I find myself in the unhappy position of announcing that one of our AWL Wrestlers has been the victim of a crime.

Former AWL Grand Champion Hassan as back home in New York over the off season and, while on the way home from the airport with his parents and little sister, was mugged.  According to reports released to us by the NYPD, two men pulled guns on the Arab American family and took not only their wallets, but one of Hassan’s bags as well.  That bag, unfortunately, contained Hassan’s wrestling gear including his keffiyeh (the traditional headdress he wears in the ring as a symbol of his heritage).

Upon hearing about this, the AWL Commissioner immediately released funds from petty cash to pay for new ring gear for the Arab American Dream (wrestlers typically have to pay or such things themselves).  But the keffiyeh, a family heirloom, cannot be replaced so easily.

The end result is, tune into the New Year’s Tournament if you want to know what the top of Hassan’s head looks like.  And to the two assholes who mugged Hassan, hope you enjoy a bag full of unwashed wrestling gear (trust me, I’ve been around the locker room enough to know how bad that stuff smells).
